I was put into the hospital in March '06 after using a carpet protectant that I purchased at the pet store. The chemicals in the product burned my lungs and I spent about 3 weeks in the hospital and was given prednisone for 10 -12 days. I remained in the hospital after my lung function increased because of the sever pain in my knees. My husband was going nuts trying to tell the doctors that he read on the internet that prednisone causes problems with knees and joints but they didn't believe him and kept running tests. They eventually switched the steroid to solumedrol and the pain decreased. I was sent home with less pain which eventually went away....but not for long. 7 months later, I began to have knee pain, which continued to get worse each day. The 1st Ortho told me that I tore a ligament and that the dead bone on the MRI will grow back. I didn't like that answer and eventually went back to an orthopedic surgeon I saw a few years prior for an injury I had while doing gymnastics. He took one look at my MRI and diagnosed me with AVN in my right knee. I got my 1st total knee replacement in August '07, a manipulation in October '07. While recovering, I noticed that my left knee was hurting and thought it was from using it so much and compensating for the right one......but I was wrong. I got an MRI on my left knee and once again, I have AVN. I got my 2nd knee replacement in January '08, a manipulation in February '08 and a 2nd manipulation in March '08. I'm now 29 years old, with asthma (from the carpet spray) 2 fake knees and have had the worst 3 years ever while going through all of this. I now have pain in my 1st replaced knee......under my knee and toward the inside. I go back to my surgeon tomorrow and am dreading another surgery.
If anyone has any questions, I'll try to help you as much as I can.

my bf had an asthma attack and was given a iv injection of solumedrol at the emergency. when we got home he slept for 3 hours then got up in a bad mood. my daughters boyfriend started some arguing with him and my boyfriend was violent. we have lived together for 4 years and NEVER has he even raised his voice. he was irrational and very, very loud. this drug made him very angry and hyper. he said he felt like his adrenalin was through the roof. after work he came home and was calmer but his eyes were bothering him. (all day they bothered him) i will not let him take this injection again. this guy could drink a bottle of tequila and not be loud or violent. he is a very calm man. the hospital said he would have no side effects to really speak of. it took all i had to try to calm him. he also had 5 doses of albuterol inhalation and 3 doses of ipratroprium brom inhaled. could be combo of all, i don't know. but never again solu-medrol

I had to taper with prednisone last time and it caused a lot of pain in my knees and alot of anger/crying. I'm on day two of the solumedrol and feel very anxious, strange, crying, leg pain, crazy? I wish I could find an effective way of lessoning these side effects...i'm trying Chamommile tea & vitamins B's at 3am hopefully it will help.

This is about my 4th or 5th time being infused w/solumedrol 1 gram for 3 days. I have been diagnosed w/MS for about 7 years. I have experienced joint pain but only when one doctor did not put me on a prednisone taper.
Overall, I am apreciative to the makers of this drug because it allows me to walk, button my clothes, cut up vegetabes for my 13 yr old daughter and my husband. Currently I am on my first day of a three day treatment and already I am experiencing the benefits. I am rt handed and it was tighter and feeling like card board, the same with my chest, back, and right leg. I felt like someone had tied a belt around my chest very tightly. It was hard to breath like a chest was on my chest! I am waiting for the nurse to start my IV at 4:00. I inject every Tuesday with Avonex. I REALLY need this medication to work so that I can drive my daughter to school each Wednesday. She is in Independant Studies because I was having vertigo and was afraid to continue driving. I was given a one day treatment of solumedrol in the emergency room. After treatment vertgo stopped. Yippee!!That was 11 months ago. Hot weather, sunlight exaserbates my condition to the 'enth degree. So here I am again hoping my right foot and right leg will get back to almost normal. People that are infirm are happy to receive whatever relief they can get in order to cope better with an illness even though I know that the only true cure for makinds ills can only come from God's Kingdom, but for now God has giver men intelligence to cure some of the illnesses that we face: Cancer - Chemotherapy (20 years ago killed my mom - hardened her lungs) ; Ads, Polio, Measles, TB and the list goes on there are upsides and downsides and it's a slippery slope, but I LOVE THAT I CAN MAKE THAT CHOICE!!! P.S. I have started using some vitamins ( B12,B6, Calcium (as solumedrol does some bone damage) and Vitamin E

Who would think an antibiotic would have such effects? I have been experienceing pain in my shoulder for about 3 weeks. This began less than 2 weeks after taking Levaquin for 2 weeks. In addition to that, I experienced side effects during the treatment. This include chest pressure and rapid heartbeat.
Yesterday, I saw an orthpaedist who diagnosed me with a rotator cuff injury.
I have one month of physical therapy to endure 3x per week now. If the pain doesn't improve in 2 weeks, then an MRI will be done. If it is ruptured, there will likely be surgery.
I am a healthy 35 year old woman with no history of shoulder problems. The doctor and others have asked what did I do to hurt myself. My answer is that I made the mistake of taking a drug that shouldn't be on the market. I don't lift weights and I didn't pitch 9 innings before this. So the only connection is a drug whose website states "ruptures of the shoulder, hands, and Achilles tendons have been reported...".
I have woarned all of my friends and co-workers about this drug. I am now on a crusade to prevent others from falling victim to this drug. I understand that the risks to the few outwiegh the rewards to many. However, when you are one of the few who is affected, your viewpoint changes. I am an educated woman and did read the side affects prior to taking the drug. I knew this was a possibility but it was "rare". Who knew an antibiotic could be so helpful and harmful at the same time!

I was taking solumedrol for five days for an acute attack of MS. I was fine throughout the treatment the nurse came out to my home and showed me and my son what was to be done each day. I left the drip set to 104 which took around 2 hours to complete. The only things I experienced during the treatment was having a metalic taste in my mouth and sour burps thereafter, something I found helpful for this was to take tums or rolaids before my treatment and maybe one or two afterwards. I did ask the nurse was that something I was supposed to experience and she said yes. On my 5th day I took my medication and took the IV out. A couple days passed and I woke up one morning to looking like I was reliving my puberty years I mean my face was broke out all over, my forehead, cheeks, chin oh and also my back. I don't know if this is one of the side effects but I am putting it up here anyways. I have never had a break out like that before, my face is clearing up now, my back is up together, but I did notice that on my forehead where the bumps have dried up my skin looks different sort of like snake skin, and my cheeks look as if they have a rash. I think it did have something to do with the medication because like I said I have never experienced anything like this before, and my skin has never looked the way it looks now. Hopefully it will pass. On the positive note the medication did help me out with my attack, and I feel like I am back on track and pretty much my old self again.

Knee pain. I was on Prednisone for a headache, as I have New Daily Persistent Headache, a rare, chronic headache condition, to try and break it. I have never had knee pain constantly before. I was a 10 day course of it. 80 mg for 2 days, 60 for 2, 40 for 2, 20 for 2, then 10 for 10. It's been 3 weeks or so since i've been done, and I still have knee pain. I'm very scared that I have avascular necrosis, even though I know it's rare, but I've been off the drug know for awhile but the pain is still around. Does anyone know if it is possible to get AVN after only being on the drug for 10 days??

I have been on predinsone for 14 1/2 years. I have had weight gain on and off and now I am up to 270. I have chronic asthma, MS and bad allergies. I had seen a specialist years ago and they said I would never go off prednisone. I am dependent on it. Two different times in these past years I had gone down to two 1/2 mg. I was able to lose weight and I felt pretty good. I went down 85 pounds. I promised myself never to let it happen again. haha. I have 6 children and 3 grandchildren. I am 44 and have been married 23 years. My husband loves me the way I am (so he sayes) but I am very depressed and unhappy about the way I look and feel. I have moon face, I am obese, I have the lump on my back, I am taking numerous other medications for my asthma and MS. My nurologist has given me some anti depressants and I guess it helps but sometimes I just feel like asking if it is all worth the trouble. I can't take it sometimes, I just want to run off the side of the bridge. Then I think about my family and my mom who lost two sons, one to asthma when he was 17 and one who was shot when he was 21 and I know she couldn't take losing me. I recently had a dose of solumedrol in the emergency room and the next day my doctor took a CBC and dif. It came up that my wbc was 20,000. He said that was very high and I just wanted to know if anyone else has had a high white blood count after a dose of solumedrol.

I was transferred to the ER and monitered for several hours and I did respond to treatment quickly
This was an allergric reaction to the dye that is very rare .
there is treatment that can be used before hand. ask about it

Anaphylaxis. While under general anesthesia, the patient developed truncal erythema, bronchospasm, and hypotension (BPsys 50-60s) within minutes of lymphazurin administration. The patient recovered after being treated with a 2 L. I.V. fluid bolus, epinephrine, SoluMedrol, Benadryl, and neosynephrine.

Reading all this horrifies me since I have been on Remicade for almost 4 years for Crohn's and a still unidentified Inflammatory arthritis of some kind. I will pray for you all. But, on another note and by no means an attempt to diminish the severity of each account in this blog, I have had no such side effects and for the most part have had great success until recently. My Crohn's is and has been in complete remission since the beginning of the infusions. However, I have had increasing inflammatory issues in joints between infusions. I get 5 vials and they give me Solumedrol in the IV. I ended up in the ER last night because my joints were all frozen up and it was just unbearable. They gave me Solumedrol and Morphine, and I am 75% better today. The frequency and severity of the arthritis issues has gotten increasingly worse over the last 6-8 months. I get infusions every 8 weeks, and start to have severe joint pain after about 4 weeks. All that being said, it is appearing like Remicade is still working brilliantly for Crohn's but is having little to no effect on the inflammatory arthritis. The steroid they give during the infusion is what I think is doing the job for the joint pain since I was a 10 last night in the ER, and I am 3 this morning pain wise after getting the steroid. My case is unique and frustrating to the Rheumy b/c my sed rates and RA factures and C-Reactives are all relatively normal when I am in tremendous pain. So, they just ran alternate tests the other day to look into things like Myeloma and so on. I don't believe that Remicade has done any of this. I believe that Remicade's benefits for MOST people greatly outweigh the risks, especially when you are incapacitated with Crohn's etc. But in my case, it just does not seem to be working for my joint inflammation.
