Update..Well I've had Mirena for 5 months now. Its been nothing but a headache ever since I got it. I've had bleeding in between periods, extreme cramping, and I even have a string that plays peek-a-boo. lol. sorry ladies but its true. I freaked out the first time I couldn't feel it. I had to have an ultrasound to make sure it was still there. It was and my OB told me that it was normal. OK. Then the cramps were so bad i almost went to the ER. Went to OB again and got another ultrasound and they could tell me anything but gave me naproxen and an endometriosis medication. Which they wouldn't explain why.

I also have headaches all the time. I think I go through a bottle of aspirin in about a 2 weeks. I have no sex drive which as of now has put my marriage at risk. And the mood swings are outrageous. I don't know if i"m depressed or what. But I really don't want another baby now. I can't take pills everyday. Bad memory very bad memory runs in my family. I can't even talk that medication everyday like I'm supposed to.I don't want to take Depression meds. I just don't know what to do any more. I'm tired all the time and dizzy. Anyone know what other things i could do to help with what I'm going through? Thanks Ladies.

I had my mirena placed about 11 months ago. Through most of the time i have had the mirena i spot all the time. About 2 months ago, I was using the bathroom and after i peed i look down and the water was completely red. I wiped to see where all that blood came from and it was coming from where i thought. The blood was bright red. which this was not normal for me!...I thought maybe i was having a miscarriage and just never knew i was pregnant. I went to the doctor and they said it was just my period and there was no problems with the Mirena. I ,in my gut, think that was complete BS!....I know how my body has been all 11 months! It was never this bright red before....sorry ladies if i am getting too descriptive!!....And not to mention recently, every time i have sex with my boyfriend i spot all over again. Is that normal?! Anybody else have that problem with spotting after sex?! My acne is also quite bad....I have pimples in places i have never gotten them before....on my neck....all over my face. I haven't had pimples this bad since high school

Okay....Sorry ladies, I'm Hi-Jacking your women's only postings on Mirena for one second.

My daughter just e-mailed me a few minutes ago to tell me that she was considering having this Mirena inserted to try and help her with her very bad menstrual cramps that she has had for years. The Doctors, and there have been many, haven't been able to figure out WHY she's had so much pain over the years during her period. Then she talks to this lady that said she had the Mirena inserted recently, and it had helped her with her endometriosis. Which is what we think is wrong with my daughter. She has all of the symptoms of endometriosis, along with all of the menstrual problems as well.

But me, being a concerned Father, I always do research on everything before I try it or buy it. Or if any of the members of my family that are interested in trying or buying anything, i do the research. The internet is a Godsend for that purpose alone!

However, after reading all of these posting from you ladies willing to share all of the side effects that y'all have experienced, I'm going to suggest to my precious daughter, that keep searching for her miracle cure and not have this Mirena inserted. She's got enough problems without the problems that this Mirena seems to be causing for most of you.

Much Thanks to all of your ladies that have shared your problems that have resulted from this Mirena!

Blessings to you all!

I love it. I have absolutely no adverse side effectswhatsoever -- in fact, for the first time in about 15 years of being on a contraceptive my moods are completely stable, I don't skip periods and I haven't gained an ounce . It also doesn't seem to inhibit my ability to spell (sorry ladies, but really, the spelling and grammar being used in this forum is shameful).

Hi BitterRN!!

(Sorry ladies if this seems to get a "privat chat", but I think our "written books" can surely be helpful to others of you, too....)

Well, I absolutely understand, what you say. And this is surely an option I will get checked (ok, if I ever will have the power to go to another doctor again after my aimless oddyssey in 2005.......!). I think I should mention, that here in Germany the health system has gotten really difficult in the past 6 - 7 years so that the doctor's could not make every test on you which might be helpful. So it's really difficult to get blood tests (especially the expensive ones as homormonal testings...) done by a doc. That's what my situation always made even more difficult, than it already was...

But one thing I really don't understand: My perhaps low testosterone levels still don't explain, why I was doing so much better the last few months (as I already told here in former posts, I even started singing in my band again and I really felt good, about 85% like my old self!!) and now, after that bad cold 3 weeks ago, the tiredness and muscle weakness and stiffness (also craming in my legs during night and day) kicked in at once as if I was thrown back to nearly one year ago... I really feel and think, that his must be a lack of some minerals or vitamines again (magnesium because of the cramping legs and fingers, perhaps b-vitamines??? I feel so unsure......). Maybe this comes on top of the testosterone or other hormonal problem and makes my symptoms worse...!??? But I deeply feel, that there MUST be something else above the definitely still lasting hormonal imbalance...

Thank you BitterRN for answering so quickly and detailed!!

best wishes
Silke

@ flowerbabies:

Well, it seems to be pretty normal to have a totally screwed up cycle after that Yasmin nightmare (I'm also only 32 and sometimes feel really menopausal!!!)... I didn't get my period at all for about 1,5 years after stopping Yasmin!! Then, about 5 weeks ago, I finally got my first normal period after Yasmin and now I'm awaiting it again... A few days ago I only had a little spotting and thought it was my period coming on. But after about 2 - 3 days everthing was gone again... Don't know what that means.... Holy sh..... I hope that this nightmare someday will have an end and I'm really back to 100% normal again without waiting for my period months and months and feeling like an old menopausal...... Sorry ladies, I'm a bit down at the moment again because of all that agony Yasmin brought into my life.....

What I wanted to say is, that I think it's pretty normal, that our bodies need some time (in some cases A LOT OF time...) to get back its own balance...

And all of you, ladies: forget those doctors or nurses that try to tell you, you HAVE TO feel better after about xxx weeks or xxx months, otherwise it's all in your head. There's noone who can say how long it takes especially for YOU to feel better or to be completely back to normal again. That depends on so much things...... your metabolism, your weight, your age, your hormonal state before Yasmin, and so on!

For some women it only took about a few months to feel normal again, for other women over a year. There's definitely NOT only ONE rule for everyone of us! In my family for example there's been hormonal problems over generations, so that's the reason, why it takes me that damn long to get back my normal hormonal state again.....

So all of you out there, still in Yasmin recovery, stay patient!! That's so important!! Give your body the time it needs, even if it might be months or years!! It's not just a little cold or the flu we're all going through, it's a real heavy hormonal chaos, that Yasmin has caused in all of us and such things need time!!

Flowerbabies: I completely agree with everything you wrote (about the vitamines, etc.)!! That's the only things that really might help!!

@kendra:

That sounds as if I had written it about 1,5 years ago!! After such a short time without Yasmin those symptoms are pretty normal, believe me! It's your body trying to get back its own balance and put on its own hormonal production. After getting off Yasmin I felt so bloated, none of my clothes didn't fit anymore. And some time later everything went away again, especially the weight, I had put on after Yasmin, is going down month by month, without changing anything in my habits!!

All you need is time ladies!! Just keep that in mind and don't quit, stay strong and hang in there! You will get better!! I promise!!

All the best to everyone out there and god's bless!!

Silke
