I have PCOS, and was experiencing dysplasia of the endometrium. After some search, a doctor recommended the Mirena. This was November of 2008. The installation should have been a clue of things to come. I have never had children, and had a tipped uterus, and as a result they had to use the clamps that look like needle nose pliers to grab my cervix, and after 45 minutes of stuffing, got it in. It was excruciating. I was working out 6 days a week, 2 1/2 hours a day, and eating South Beach Phase 2- and had lost 80 lbs and had maintained for 1 year. I asked if it would in any way cause weight gain, and was told it would not. Within the first month my diet/exercise regimen failed, and despite working out 7 days a week and resuming Phase 1, I was gaining 10 lbs a month- which my Doctor would not discuss with me except to dismiss it. To make a long story short, after life threatening edema and bleeding 22 or 23 days straight and with my now discovered sensitivity to progesterone, I required a total abdominal hysterectomy to remove an enlarged, boggy, and fibroid riddled uterus. I am doing 200% better now, and I am sure there are some women the Mirena works well for, but I was not one of them, and I feel the Mirena actually endangered my life (that and the arrogant doctor who inserted it and told me to be patient. I had it in from 11/2005 to 7/2007- is that time enough?) Please, please, please. If something does not feel right, do not NO for an answer. I did not want children so I was okay with losing the ability to bear children, but having a TAH at 38 is a life change that most younger women would not want. Would I have had to have it anyway? Perhaps. But I could have been in a position to be navigator in my care rather than reactive as I was forced to be.

I was on Jolessa too, but got switched to Quasense. I have gained thirteen pounds in the five weeks I have been on it, and for the last two weeks, I have really made sure I was eating right (nutritionist) and I work out five days per week and yet the scale keeps going up. ???????????? I feel like a cow. This pill has to go. Like someone else said, I would rather be thin and happy. I also get weird brownish discharge, and am moody. I also recently had a zit and I am way too old for that to start: I am headed for my 30s and have never had acne. I feel bloated so I just ditched most carbs and am eating according to South Beach. I am desperate to get back into my skinny pants. I was a size 4 or 6 before I gained weight on this pill. Now I had to buy some bigger stuff and I am unhappy with my appearance. I think I am going to switch to an IUD.

I was on Zoloft for 3 years. While it helped with my anxiety, I sometimes felt it increased it. My biggest complaint was the weight gain. Over the 3 year period, I gained 35 pounds. While still on it, I did South Beach for 3 months and lost 5 pounds. =(
Last summer, I worked out 6 days a week for 1- 1 1/2 hour a day for 2 months. I didn't lose a single pound! My size 12's were still fitting pretty well. I have never weighed this much in my life. I was never even over a size 7.
I got off the Zoloft in October and have actually gained 7 more pounds since. It is really depressing. I think the company should have to pay for a gym membership or personal trainers! =)

I took Glucophauge (Metformin) with fertility treatments, when trying to conceive my first child. I got pregnant. I am now on it again trying to conceive for the second time. I have noticed that as long as I remain on a strict low-carb diet (like South Beach type) I do not experience any side effects. If you eat too many carbs you can definitely get diarrhea or vomiting!

This website is absolutely amazing to me...
I started the nuvaring in March of 2007, but got off of it after a few months because I had gained some weight. My doctor didn't think this was related (she is a wonderful doctor, and this form of birth control was also new to her), so in September of 2007, I got back on it. At this time, I had lost over 26 lbs in between the months I hadn't had it.
Since September of 2007, I have gained back 18 lbs, yet I go to the gym at MINIMUM 1.5 hours, 4 times a week, and that scale will not budge. I have done South Beach in the past with great success, but I could drink only water right now and not shed a lb.
Also, I've been in and out of the ob's office with Candida and itchy vagina in general for months. Now, reading these posts, it's all starting to make sense to me.
I was also diagnosed with hypothyroid. Which I'm starting to wonder if there is a connection.
My migraines were so bad last year, that I had to have Fiorocet prescribed to me to get rid of them.
And lastly, I feel much more tired than I have been in the last few years. I need my energy back!
Either way, I will be coming off the ring, again, this week, and my husband and I will be back to condoms. And I can't wait to see if I feel normal.
