I am 58, and attention deficit has always been a part of my life. I am the space cadet type, ADD but not ADHD. I discovered it had a name when I was 45. Adderall is something I take to keep myself on track and actually get things done. Before Adderall I self medicated with lots of sugar, caffeine and occasionally pseudofed when I needed to focus. What I wanted to add to this discussion is this: those with ADD have a different response to stimulants than those without it. When I was in college, some of us scored some funny white powder ( yes, the Real Thing (grin)) to try out. I found everyone else running around talking nonstop, eating like crazy and prancing around the room. I was filled with an immense inner calm, and finally went outside for some peace and quiet. It was the first time I felt clear headed and connected to the flow of time around me. The good news was I was a student, without a job or money, and with ADD, so I never got around to repeating the experiment or I could easily have become addicted to the stuff. The moral here is to remember different folks have different responses to the same drugs. My personal opinion is that if stimulants make you feel agitated, you probably don't have ADD. If you drink 6 cups of coffee and four colas then sleep like a baby, you might consider getting checked out.

I got the Mirena put in in October 2007. I had just lost all my post baby weight and was feeling GREAT. then I immediately gained 20 lbs. I tried EVERYTHING to lose it. I went to extremes...power walking 5 miles a day, going to fitness classes, lifting weights, bicycling up hills, playing soccer with my kids. AND eating very healthy, small portions, minimal fats, no starches, or sugars, no eating out ever. NOT ONE POUND moved. What is so weird is the way the weight came on. It is all concentrated in this perfect little round bump on my belly making me look about 4 months preg. I can tell there is a lot of water there and I retain water terribly. I bloat all over so badly by the end of the day, I have to unzip my pants (even though I barely eat). I went to my doc thinking something is wrong and she assured me it wasn't my IUD but my age!!! After reading these and other posts, I was amazed to see SO many other symptoms I have been having since Oct. of 2007 that I Never attributed to the Mirena!!! My breasts hurt, my energy levels are up and down. I have had a terrible time emotionally, handfuls of hair falling out, NO SEX DRIVE, (don't have acne), irritable, depressed, impatient, headaches, complete space cadet, inability to make decisions, etc. All this since the Mirena was put in. I TOO want my body back and my SELF back!! I have an appointment in TWO Weeks from today to get it out and I cant wait!!! This can NOT be healthy!! I will report back to you and let you know what happens.

I am SOOOO glad I found this site. My daughter is 6 years old and has been on Zyrtec on and off since she was 18 months old. About two years ago we added in Singulair. Two weeks ago she was diagnosed with ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder and they want to start her on meds for that. I got to thinking about when all her behavior and academic problems started and it was shortly after we started the Singulair. Before the Singulair she was a brilliant, outgoing, well-behaved happy little girl. Now she has trouble remembering short and long term, trouble concentrating, extremely fidgety, impulsive, can't complete anything she starts, extreme persistent stomach pains, diarrhea, occasional vomiting, and extreme frustration. I stopped both the Zyrtec and Singulair 4 days ago and am now reconsidering any meds for ADHD. I am going to wait and see how she does without Zyrtec and Singulair in her system. I am excited to see if there is an improvement! I had no idea these two drugs were so dangerous!

Out of all birth control's this has to be the worst i have tried (apart from regular Coil), since having it fitted on 23/08/06 i have gained many many pounds and after eating i bloat to the extent that i look 8-9 months pregnant, have constant hot flushes, tired to the point were i have to drag myself out of bed, mood swings and loss of libido. After it was inserted i had a light brownish/reddish discharge for 2/3 months, which left in the only way to describe it, a bleach stain on my underwear (has anyone else had this? Sorry for being so graphic!), i am constantly buying new underwear, not that i mind that too much!! My G.P. told me yesterday that he thinks it has nothing to do with the Mirena (i suffer from IBS), he changed my medication and advised that if i felt it necessary to come back for blood tests. My birth control before was Yasmin, i changed this as i gained weight, bloated, had constant mood swings and loss of libido........Why??? I have now come to the conclusion that i have made my contribution to Mankind and maybe it is time for sterilisation!!!
