I have stopped taking Lipitor after 3 yrs. I was told I had a mini-stroke because of my slurred speech 6 mo. ago. Since then I have had a battery of tests and my neurologist told me "I don't think you had a stroke." I saw the words "Motor Neuron Disease" (I looked it on the web because I never heard of it before) on the script for my EMG. I blame it all on Lipitor and the wasting of the nerves and the muscles. I sound as if I am drunk. No one can understand me . I am taking speech therapy but it doesn't seem to help.

I am a 25 year old graduate student that began taking Topamax for migraines after I was involved in a bad car accident. I started taking Topamax in April of 2008 and by July I could barely formulate sentences, couldn't remember simple things like where I parked by car (in front of my apartment) and my family member's names, simple math was impossible, I was always tired but could never go to sleep, had numbness in hands and feet, and was very moody with suicidal ideations. I was then referred to a neuropsychologist to assess any possible brain damage from the accident since I was now having cognitive problems. They tested me for brain damage where I was diagnosed with Severe Brain Damage, I was reading on a 8th grade level, did math on a 4th grade level, needed to begin speech therapy immediately and my doctor felt I needed direct supervision at all times. I was initially told by my neurologist that the medicine would help with the migraines but would "make my thinking slow". That was a huge understatement. I was a 4.0 graduate student in the middle of my program and I suddenly couldn't perform basic daily activities. I have been doing much better since coming off the medication. I have the migraines less frequently but they are still pretty bad. I have regained most of memory, reading, and math skills back the rest is attributed to the car accident. I wouldn't recommend this medication to anyone and I think it should be taken off the market because it almost destroyed my life and had me and my family worried to death about a condition which symptoms were clearly being exacerbated by Topamax.

I was on Atenolol (Tenormin) since June 1998. Ever so gradually, I began to lose my voice to the point that I was sent to speech therapy after being diagnosed with Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia by a throat doctor. It was of no help.. and made the doctor mad, frustrated the voice therapist. I was also having intermittant problems swallowing for no apparent physical reason. After quitting taking Atenolol, my voice began to slowly return. Unfortunately I have gotten into some bad habits that I now must break (using false vocal cords for speaking).. But the cause was most definitely the Atenlol..

I am not even sure I really have asthma. A german doctor said that I do not have it but all American doctors say I do. I have been on Advair for 3 years and noticed weight gain, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, hoarseness to the point of total loss of voice, a rash on my face, major hip pain, shoulder pain and back pain, and vertigo. I spent almost a whole year at specialists to find out why I kept loosing my voice. I went to a eye/nose/throat specialist who couldn't find anything and proposed speech therapy. Then I was sent to a thyroid specialist who put me on synthroid but also said that this has nothing to do with my loss of voice. I was even on 6 weeks of total voice restriction. At one point, with all the back, hip and shoulder pain, thyroid stuff, etc., I was on 8 different, heavy duty medications from valium to triple antibiotics and such. Now after reading all of these emails, I will take myself off Advair, Lexapro, Vioxx, Valium, Ambien, Lipitor, Synthroid, and pain killers with Codein. I really thought I must be going crazy but now it all makes sense.
Thank you all!

My husband was given Levaquin and Prednisone in April for a bad chest infection. The last day of Levaquin, his knees began burning. He has been suffering with pain and cramps from his toes all the way up his legs. It has been in his fingers up through his elbows. He has shaking in his hands. He had an abnormal EMG. He has intermittent low grade fever. He started having trouble swallowing a couple of weeks ago. He now has to go to speech therapy because his tongue muscles aren't working correctly. He had none of this UNTIL he took this medication. The doctor now finally feels it is as a result of taking the Levaquin. The prescribing doctor had the nerve to lecture us about NOT stating he was allergic to the medication because he would be in the hospital with an infection otherwise. We are not returning to this doctor.
