Sputum symptoms and conditions

My dad had taken Avelox 400 for 5 days prescribed by a doctor for Bronchitis. He is a cardiac patient as well. After 1 week he developed the following symptoms in the order: high fever, Swelling in the ankles and knees, mild jaundice, thick sputum, rashes all over the body, difficulty swallowing food, conjunctivitis affected like discharge from the eyes, poor mental co-ordination, skin tearing in the lips, diarrhea, difficulty passing stool, anxiety, confusion, low blood pressure, insomnia, slightly impaired vision. I only hope and pray he recovers soon. I really do not know why this drug is administered to people when there are other alternatives which are milder. This drug has not done any good to anyone.

I had a terrible cough and rusty sputum. I was given 2 rounds of Z-Pak with no help. Finally I went to an emergency center (Doc in a box kind of place) I got a chest x ray and was TOLD I had pneumonia and given Levaquin. No info was given when I filled the prescription at the only pharmacy open that time of night-that should have been a warning but I was too sick to realize. 10 days of vomiting, diarrhea and SHOULDER pain in the side I had rotator cuff repair last year. My shouldr pain is pretty bad but not as bad as some of you describe. I also have a pacemaker on the other side, so when I went to my cardiologist the next week he said I had NOT had pneumonia, but a bad bronchitis according to the radiologist who finally read my x-ray.

He also said the Levaquin given me was most likely the cause of my symptoms. He said Levaquin is being massively over prescribed like all newer drugs and is becoming ineffective towards more and more infections. I wish I had known then what I know now. Go to a REAL doctor-not an intern moonlighting and get REAL medical advice. My shoulder is better with Tylenol and Omega 3/7/9 Fish Oil capsules. Ibuprofen is not as effective for me.

had a sinus infection after a cold- z pack did not work - was given prednisone and 21 days of avelox - after 7 days had a lot of dizziness and lightheadedness - feeling hot and warm - tongue feels hot and inflamed and worst headaches - no more sinus infection - stopped the drug - anyone know how long it might take for headache to abate after stopping this drug.?? please email me at marlenie1955@yahoo.com. thanks.

I was prescribed Biaxin XL 1000mg x7 days for a possible secondary bronchial infection (I have had the flu and am coughing up beige sputum). I took the medicine for the first time last night. I made sure to drink yogurt along with it and took it with food as I was worried about GI effects. Wow! Within 2 hours I had major episodes/waves of severe nausea, stomach gurgling/hunger. I definitely developed a dry mouth and metallic taste. I became lightheaded (this is still going on the next day) and dizzy. I feel spaced out completely. Last but not least I had a really bad nightmare last night. I do not ever have nightmares!!! I am an RN, so I am not a "crazy" patient having psychosomatic symptoms. I am never taking this drug again unless my very life depends on it. I will take my chances and let my body heal naturally. Awful drug.
