I am curious about weight gain with this drug. I started taking it in Jan. of 08 and I felt like my metabolism just stopped....my stomach stopped growling but I did still feel slight hunger. I don't know if it's because I had just turned 30 and my metabolism was actually slowing down from age or if the Lexapro did it. I always used to jog and the weight would come off pretty well. But when I was on Lexapro I felt like I could jog and jog and jog and eat right and nothing would happen. Does anyone else have this problem?

Holy crap this website is depressing! Paxil is not all bad people! I've been on it for 1.5 years. I'm a 24 yr old female. I take it for social anxiety and panic attacks. It takes about 3-4 months for your body to adjust to taking it. You are likely to experience MINOR side effects. I had a lot of sweating, tiredness and HAPPINESS. Yes, I was really happy...its an anti-depressant after all. After that you might be a little more tired than you use to, but other than that it is fine. You can't quit cold turkey, you have to be weaned off of it...just like you will be gradually put on it. I take 30 mg a day, but started at 10 the first couple weeks. Don't get freaked out because of all the bad reviews on here. Everyone just wants a place to whine about their bad experiences and how horrible their life is. Paxil cured my panic attacks and my anxiety. I feel so much better. I think so much more clearly and I don't constantly worry about what everyone thinks of me. Would recommend paxil to a friend.

Hi,
I have been taking 40 mg. of prednisone a day now for about 3 weeks for inflammatory lung disease. My doctor says I will probably be on this dosage at least a year. I have been having the insomnia and anxiety, but that has decreased since I started taking St. John's Wort in the morning with my dosage and a Valerian, hops, scullcap herbal mixture for sleep (available at health food stores) about an hour before bed. Thought this may help some of the rest of you. God bless you.

I found this site by searching for depression and any of the medications I take: synthroid, metformin, glimepiride (amaryl), and lisinopril-hctz. And here's the culprit - lisinopril! I've been taking it for only a couple of months now but it feels like my world is closing in on my and I'm bouncing off the walls in my mind. I'm considering retiring having hit 62 and I thought it would be a happy time but instead I feel locked in a prison, with walls of debt, depression, loneliness, hopelessness, etc. closing in on me. I'm even very close to losing a boyfriend because I've become so clingy and emotionally needy.

I must say that I did stop taking an anti-depressant around the same time that I started with the lisinopril. However, the anti-depressant (Lexapro) was originally prescribed to combat anger and not depression. So I cannot say for sure that Lisinopril is the culprit here. But having read everyone's stories, it is very clear.

Thank you all for telling your experiences with this drug. God bless you all.

I'm a 45 yr old female, I've been on Singular for many years (originally for allergies and then asthma too) and have quit three times due to "possible" side effects and tried other asthma medicines. Inhalers make my GERD worse and I'm anxious all the time. I have to say Singular is the only thing that really works for my asthma and I keep going back to it because it does work. Also, I found that when I quit and expected my depression, headaches or fibromyalgia to go away they didn't... so I own these symptoms now regardless of Singular. I've always had mild depression and anxiety and all the prescription drugs for this I find are really too strong and are made worse then by Singular. For mild depression I find taking SAMe and St. John's Wort to really help me. Can't say if it would help others but you might look into it. I think it's important that doctors understand a link with depression and Singular but for some of us there's not another choice.

i went on this pill about 10 months ago... i loved it... no periods nothing. then id say about 4 or 5 months after it i started having random anxiety but i didn't really think anything of it since i have been anxious before... then summer started and i came home from school and i have suffered terrible anxiety, depression and really uncontrollable irrational thoughts. the last 3 weeks have been absolutely horrible ... really really bad depression and anxiety... i felt like i was going psychotic i wanted to go into a mental hospital or something... and i am not a depressed person, i am quite the antithesis. my parents were really freaked out and worried about me....well i went to the gynecologist to see if it could be from the pill and he said absolutely... he took me off it and even after only 6 days i feel so much better... im sure a lot of it is because i know im not going psychotic and it could be from the pill. i have also started taking st. john's wort and b complex vitamins among a few other vitamins. NOBODY should have to go through what ive been through the last months... its horrible and im convinced that it was because of the pill.

I am very scared right now and concerned, but recently I have been sick for the last 3 weeks or 4 weeks. I went to the doctor about 2 weeks ago and he prescribed some Amoxicillin for my sickness. He said he couldn't identify what I had so he gave me a broad based anti biotic. For about a week I took it and didn't get any better. The medicine caused me to get dizzy spells after sleep and before sleep. So this week I went back to the doctor and he said the medicine wasn't helping me and my white blood cell count had gone up. So I had to get some blood taken . Then the nurse couldn't find my vain easily. She managed to get a little blood though and took it for lab samples. The doctor came back and said I needed to take some Avelox and gave it to me. So for about two days I took it and I felt ok, but later the second day I started having a panic attack for no reason. I told my dad I needed to lay down.

After that, my dad made me some food and I laid down and watched TV and the feeling soon left. I was really feeling sick so I got a cold rag and put it on my forehead. I was looking forward to my mom coming home from Wednesday night church. I fell asleep for about 30 minutes. Then my mom came home and woke me up and we talked for a bit and then I went back to sleep.

Well, today I got curious about my medicine and looked it up and found out some terrible news. The medicine I am taking has actually landed people in the hospital. I found a site where people who had taken it posted what the side affects were. They all had reports about having anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and muscle aches. It was then I realized that my medicine is what caused the panic attack the day before. I called my dad instantly and told him about the bad side affects. He didn't really seem to care that much. He listened to me though, which is a step up from my mom. Then I called my mom and explained to her. She just ignored me and didn't care. I was crying and I felt so terrible and frustrated. I was just trying to explain to her that my medicine caused very bad side affects and even thoughts of suicide. She didn't really seem concerned though, she said she'd call my doctor and talk to him about it.

Right now my parents and I are just really stressed about this whole thing. I refuse to take my medicine because of it's dangerous side affects... but if I don't have any medication at all I won't get better. I'm just in a really bad situation and I am just so depressed I feel as if I could burst!! Everyday I feel like utter crap and my vision is screwed up and I don't have an appetite so I have to make myself eat. Also, my white blood cell count keeps getting higher and if something isn't done soon what I have could be very dangerous.

I keep praying to God... but it doesn't feel like he hears me. I am in great emotional pain, my parents are never home and I'm lonely the majority of the day to , and being sick doesn't help. I am starting to experience a bit of the thoughts of suicide.I keep convincing myself I need to live and I'll get better and I don't need to die. It's hard though I am fighting with all my might to keep it away.

Wow! I'm so glad that I'm not thinking these things up in my head. I have been on Wellbutrin for about 2 1/2 months now and I have noticed hair loss but I thought it was just because of stress. However, reading this makes me very nervous about taking my 300 mg. a day. I also feel that I forget things a lot too; where I put my keys, my bag etc. I have also had ringing in my ears and sensitivity with both my eyes and ears. Has anyone else had all of these side effects? And if so, what did you and your doctor do?

If you are experiencing palpitations, chest pain, see your Doctor or go to ER immediately. Have your potassium levels checked promptly to ensure that you have not developed Hyperkalemia (excess potassium) in your blood which is likely and happened to me becuase of the potassium sparing diuretic in Yasmin*. Hyperkalemia can be lethal and is extremely dangerous and a risk taking Yasmin.

Erykah-I haven't seen anyone whose tried/used St. john's Wort but would recommend instead having your hormone levels and your adrenal function tested? Oftentimes, after Yasmin, becuase of the diuretic flushing that occurs (constant peeing/urinating) it throws off our electrolyte and mineral balances in addition to that it suppresses our adrenal glands. I have found success with B vitamins (A B stress tab) or a whole food/bio-available Vitamin*. The whole food and bioavailability part is really important-because it is what makes it more accessible/useable by your body. Also-take a calcium and magnesium supplement if you find you are low on magnesium which is one of the minerals Yasmin's diuretic depletes*. I'm taking one that is equivalent ratios: 1:1-1000 of each because minerals compete with one another so taking a calcium that is higher will not give you the benefit of the magnesium. Low magnesium levels effects the health of all the muscles in our bodies-including the heat and if oftentimes what causes the murmurs/palps.

Quick question:
Has anyone tried St. John's Wort for treatment of the depression and anxiety that many of us feel while on and coming off of Yasmin?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

I've just stopped taking Yasmin after about 8 months. Everything was ok for the first few months but then i started suffering from loss of balance and generally feeling 'not with it'. Also suffered mood swings, crying one minute and flipping out another. For some reason i seemed to have put on weight round my middle? I do aerobics 3 times a week and watch what i eat so i dont think it's anything i'm doing. Has anyone else had this happen to them. My weight has gone up about 8lbs. Have made decision not to take Yasmin for a while and see what happens. Have armed myself with a jar of Agnus Castus and St John's Wort to help my body. Will be using cap for contraception as i have used it before. Well here goes!!

hey lisa,

sorry you were asking about vitamins and stuff... you can get magnesium suppliments which help with the heart palpitations because it allows the blood to flow better through the arteries....or just eat more food that contains magnesium...

also there is this stuff you can get from like the chemist to help with anxiety... its called St John's Wort or something similar to that.... even valerian can be purchased there but that might make you a bit sleepy....

apart from that i didnt take any specific medication because i didnt want to rely or anything that i might get addicted too..

if you get your hormone levels checked you may find that your progesterone is low which is causing the palpitations...

i hope this has helped...

Before anyone goes on another synthetic drug to balance out the side effects of Yasmin, you might want to consider herbal options. I'm trying vitamin B6 and St. John's wort for depression, kelp for thyroid balance, and parsley tea to bring on my periods when they're supposed to come. Taking herbal medicines should be done with careful consideration just like pharmaceuticals (sp?) but maybe a little less risky. If anyone else has tried this route to de-tox, please share your experiences!

Worked up to 50 mg. for depression/anxiety with a noticeable improvement in my mood and only a few minor side effects the first week including intestinal irritation. Then after 5 months it seemed to make me tired/apathetic all the time. I weaned myself off but couldn't handle the fogginess during this time. Went back on just 25 mg. but again after about 5 months I felt lazy all the time and again am now weaning myself off. It has been a week and I am trying to make it through the spaced-out feeling and dizziness. I'm researching St. John's wort now and may give it a try.

This is just a follow up to my posting of the side effects from taking Levaquin. I have made a concerted effort over the past month to exercise twice as much as normal, drink twice as much water and have taken supplements i.e St John's Wort, Lysine and many minerals and vitamins to boost my immunity system.

I am feeling so much better and all the side effects are diminishing fast. I think the only way with this drug is to flush it out as quickly as possible!!
