i was/am on a combo of doxycycline (2 a day for 20) and bactrim (2 a day for 10) for MRSA in my knee that flared up a month after a run on clindamycin (2 a day for 10).

Ive been on Bactrim before, for staph 4 years ago, and i think it did the same thing to me. besides the headaches for the first 3 days, most of the time I felt like i was having some kind of minor hallucinations, looking at the world through a weird lense. Like i was about to start tripping on some wild drug. Insomnia, irritability difficulty focusing, and low energy. that and frustration and a bit depressed.

so i started to smoke some pot, and that made the vertigo and nausea subside, almost all the way gone. the hallucinations stayed, in fact they just got more interesting with the pot, they were like the peripheral hallucinations when one is detoxing from alcohol... DTs? u think someones standing next to you or a small thing moved on the floor next to your desk but nothings there when u focus on it. yea those.

also the M. J. helped me eat, which made me feel a whole lot better and i noticed my wound healing faster.

Probiotics are KEY with these antibiotics, Jarrodophillus +FOS was wat i took throught the treatment and after, so my poo got normal, and i was smooth sailing through the recovery.... until day 8 when i decided to stop the bactrim at 8 days. i got sick looking at the pill no matter how much pot i smoked.

i dont react well to wine with allot of sulfer in it, maybe its a similar situation.

anyway, medical marijuana helped me, so did pro-biotics, and weeing off the ibuprofin they had me on helped me with adverse side affects of that stuff, woo didn't know it could be sooo nasty (advil/ibuprofin)

cheers

I haven't finished taking the medicine yet because I'm only on day 4, but I must say that it's clearing up the staph in my right armpit. My left armpit is still swollen and hurts like hell. My mother is an RN, and she's been trying to drain the pus and blood from the wound. It hurts so bad that I'm ready to just drive up to the local ER and have them lance it. How long does it usually take for Bactrim to clear up the infection? I'm taking 2 pills once a day for 10 days.

And another thing, I think why people are having nasty side effects to the medicine is because it's not mixing well with their body chemistry. My sister took Bactrim last year for MRSA, and she cleared up beautifully without any horrible side effects.

Thanks guys!

I had back surgery in July and caught two infections from the hospital, Staph and pseudonymous. I had a picc-line put in and was put on Cipro oraly and Ancef. I got Steven Johnson syndrome from the Cipro and almost died. I looked like a burn victim and swelled from head to toe that was three weeks ago. They pulled me off the Ancef and Cipro. It took a week of me running 103 + temps and the dr. kept telling me its a virous until the rash showed up and my tongue swelled and private parts and throat started to swell shut before they decided to admit me. Then once all that was done and they figured it out they put me on impernem to kill both infections. They pulled my picc-last week and put me on Doxycycline. I have done my research and know that the two are related I asked my dr. what the chances were of a reaction again he told me less then 1%. Ha! I am seeing an infectious disease dr. by the way. Since I started the Doxycycline last Thursday I have developed hives I called the dr. and was told they are not worried about it because I am not running a 101 temp and I am not swelling, plus they don't even know if the Pseudonymous is cured. What do I do? If I go off the antibiotics I will die and if I stay on them I am probably going to die. My joints hurt all the time now and I am only 31. Do I look for a new dr.? Can someone please help me? This is the only website I have found so far where people have had the same reactions as me. These antibiotics are dangerous they need to be taken off the shelf. Thank you and good luck to everyone who is struggling with this.

Well I had my Mirena inserted in July 2008. A month and a half after my little guy was born. A week later I started to experience sever irritability. I mean to the point where i would just yell at my 2 month old son to shut up(I know pathetic). About three weeks later I woke up to feed my son at 2am and I felt short of breath and my heart was racing, my hands and chest were cold and tingling. I thought i was dying. After extensive work up for a pulmonary embolism which was all negative they said that I had probably had a panic/anxiety attack. I was then put on anti depressants for post partum depression. Weird I have no family history of postpartum depression and have never had depression issues in the past. I can't say whether it is from the mirena or if it is truly PPD but it really makes me wonder after reading all of these posts. I have had irritability, hot flashes, chronic yeast infections, ovarian cysts and so on. I had my Mirena removed a week ago after yet another yeast infection and ovarian cyst and after reading all of these posts. My OB cultured the Mirena and it grew out E-Coli!!!! and Enteroccous bacteria. After I found this out i read a few studies that showed that over 50% of Mirena IUD cultures grew out E-Coli, staph, and enteroccous bacteria. Which now explains the DISCHARGE!!! I have had since this thing was put in. Ladies if you are having chroinc discharge and yeast infections you need to really consider having this taken out. How scary. I have noticed my patience coming back and I feel relief almost I still feel tired and have hot flashes but my OB said that after they treat me with a course of two different antibiotics that should go away. Good luck ladies!! The only bad thing is I have my period again :(

I was recently treated for a staph infection with 10 days worth of bactrim. The whole week my BP was through the roof (now on BP meds), severe headaches, sore spots on my head, weird eye pain and vomitting. It was horrible. I was linking it all to my unusual high BP but from what I've read it looks like most of you have experienced the same side effects. I had two days left to take but I'm not going to mess with it anymore.

My daughter took advair. She was an asthmatic for years. Last April she had bronchitis, and went on prednisone, I don't believe they took her off the advair. She developed a severe septic pnuemonia, went to the hosp. on a Monday with body shutting down, kidneys involved etc. Wed. seemed to pass the crises, Sat, developed a staph, and died on April22. Ask your doctors and pharmicists, about this combination. I will always believe it was a contributing factor to her death.
