This is a nightmare. I have been on Lamictal 200 mg, tab in morning, for approx. 5 months. About 3 1/2 months ago I started getting muscles aches and weakness, muscle overuse problems, fluid retention ( like 12 pounds), stayed in a trance with very little short term memory. Thought it was everything but this medicine....I am an avid athelite, yes, even at 51. So, I blamed myself for not slowing down. Quick exercising totally, for 2 months, iced 3 times a day on leg muscles. Finally after making it to the summer without a mental breakdown, I went to the emergency room and a new internist to get checked out. Blood work, thyroid, hormones,ok.... Really don't care what they think , I can not walk, it hurts like hell. The Dr. did tell me to get off Lamictal....ok 7th day and I have some relief but it is not complete. Called manufactures, interesting, yes- these are side effects!!! But the studies are limited. Listen , unless you have seizures, get off this medicine... you read the full disclosure of side effects and then search yourself......It can ba a huge FOOOOOPA.....And you are the fool that will end up holdling the bag, not the manufacturer. Hopefully I will get better. Right now , I just trying to stay calm.

Hello everyone!

Just let me start by saying thank you to everyone who is writing in about the side effects of Prednisone.

I was put in the hospital for an ear infection which rapidly turned into a swollen inflamed ear which was 4 times it's normal size. I was placed on an IV of antibiotics and Darvoset for the pain. The swelling in my ear diminished and after5 days i was released from the hospital. I went home and noticed my head was slightly off as i was having some vertigo and nausea. I notified my doctor during my follow up from my release and she gave me some mecclazine and a asked that i stay on the antibiotics (Doxycylcine & Levaquin). The most confusing part to me was that the doctor never had anything to culture as far as what caused te original ear infection. She nevere visited me while in the hospital bed as i felt she should and since she never had a complete picture as to what caused the infection i felt she may have been just inadvertantly prescribing the biotics as a precaution.

Now the fun starts for me. Every evening during my stay and after my release my ear would feel flush and semi hot and i would wake up in the morning drenched in sweat as though my body was fighting something. I have a feeeling (but cant prove it) that i was given a steroid through IV while in the hospital. After explaining to the specialist assigned to my case that i was having this type of trouble, she immediately prescribed Prednisone on a 12 day decreased dosage plan.

Since taking it i have had increased swelling in my neck, face and at the back of my neck like others have mentioned. I am also irritable and moody (depressed). I am a very happy person normally and i am struggling to stay calm and cool but finding it difficult to keep things in check at times. I also am having trouble speaking on the phone. This makes it hard for me to perform customer service on the telephone.
There is a swollen part of my neck( almost like a lump near my gland which has gradually gotten more pronounced since the hospital stay). I am not sure if this is a possible side effect from the Prednisone either.

Anyway - the ENT specialist has decided i have Relapsing Perichondritis (Polychondritis) which may or may not be true. How does one go from an ear ache to this?

Can anyone shed some light on what they think may be happening?

Sorry for rambling.. i do this when i am nervous... another side effect. :(

Tom -44 yr old male.

To trailblazen,

Your low blood pressure seems to be a definite side-effect of Prednisone withdrawal. When I came off of Pred, I not only felt super weak but I also experienced body tingling, especially in my legs and arms.....bad, bad!
I hope to God you are not quitting cold turkey, don't ever do that! Your doctor should be lowering your doses slowly by 5 mgs a week or so. In your case, stopping the intake of this Steroid all the sudden could be quite dangerous because you have been on it for a looooong period of time. If your doctor reduced you dose little by little you should not worry about your withdraw effects. Stay calm and keep an optimistic attitude. It took me 2 months before I started feeling normal again! Hope this helped you ;)

I am a 26 year old female. I have been on seroquel for about 3 months. Since taking seroquel I have gained about 20 lbs and seem to keep gaining. My breasts have gone up a full cup size. I also feel nothing, by this I mean I feel no emotion. I don't feel happy, sad, glad, or mad-- I feel like I am just here. I almost feel like I am lost- I can't stay focused, I can't complete a thought, it's almost like I'm in a constant state of daydreaming about nothing. I take a small dose of seroquel 3 times a day to stay calm and a larger dose at nite to sleep. It works as far as that goes but the weight gain and the loss of emotion concern me.

May name is Ana and I want to add a little more to the information I provided you all back in december. After December I had more infussions, I noticed that each time I had an infussion; I kept feeling worse side effects during and the day after the procedure. The doctor added steroids and benadryl to knock me out during the infussion, but even then I felt the chest pain and the head aches the day after. Finally the doctor decided that remicade wasn't for me, but I had to give him a scare; an even bigger one. 3 weeks ago I had my very last infussion. I went in 1 week earlier because I was in alot of pain (previous treatment didn't work) and I had been for 5 weeks, but now I could barely move. The nurse placed benadryl in my IV and it knocked me out, about 30 minutes into the infussion; I started getting chest pain and remember I was asleep. I tried to tell someone, but I could barely talk. The nurse noticed me turning red and shook me; asking if I was ok. I tried to tell her, I couldn't breathe; but I was struggling with the benadryl. I finally began to cough and it woke me up a bit, I then kind of told her that I had chest pain. She immediately stopped the infussion, called the doctor, got oxygen and helped me sit up. I was still fighting the benadryl. Finally the doctor came in and said, remove the IV; this isn't working for her. As soon as the nurse removed the IV, I couldn't stop shaking and I was getting a rash. I was kind of scared, but I tried my best to stay calm. But then I began to feel very cold and they noticed a tear in my eye. The nurse then asked why I was shaking and I told her I didn't know, but that I was very cold. Then one nurse took my blood pressure and noticed that it was sky rocket high. One nurse ran to get hot packs, blankets and pillows and she began to shove the hot packs under my clothes and cover me up; while the other nurse ran to get doctors again. Finally the doctors noticed that I was shaking off the chair and even though I tried to stay still I couldn't. One doctor said for the nurse to get a shot of something, I was too sleepy I can't remember the name of it (drug). It did help and it calmed me down and put me back to sleep. It was scary and until now, I still have a very sharp pain in the back of my neck that comes and goes. But I just want to think that it'll go away soon. So I finally got on Enbral and it works wonders with me and I feel no side effects (yet atleast).
