Stopped smoking on Oct 27, 2009. I had began taking Wellbutrin about a week prior to quitting smoking. Then on Nov 6, 2009, that morning start to break out in red welts all over my neck, which fast moved to under my arms, on my sides and then to my face. I went straight in to my doctor and they gave me a benadryl shot and a steriod shot. My dr advised me to quit taking wellbutrin, because I was having an allergic reaction to it. I quit taking wellbutrin. But the rash just got progressively worse over the next 24 hours, I passed out on Nov 8, 2009 and was taken in to the ER, there I was given another Benadryl shot and another steroid shot. The ER doctor also wrote me a prescription for Benadryl and for a round of steroid pills. It is now Nov 12, 2009 and the rash has left for the most part, except if i get my skin hot, then the rash just appears and itches badly, but as soon as my skin cools it is gone. My chest was very painful the first four days of this ordeal, it is now only painful occasionally. My doctor says it will probably take about two weeks for all side effects to completely disappear. This is the only severe drug reaction that I have ever had in my life.

I am looking for any information anyone has about the possibility that Singulair causes colitis or that it can lead to inflamed colon and bleeding colon. My daughter is 4 years old and has never been a sick child. In September, she started bleeding from her colon, and a month later, she was finally diagnosed with colitis after having a colonoscopy. The doctor prescribed Prednisone (steriod) and Phlagyll (antibiotic) (spelling?). I decided to stop giving her the Singulair that she had previously been taking because I didn;t want her to have so many drugs in her system as one time. After a few days of the steriods and antibiotics, she was well, with no signs of problems. Everything was going great for a few weeks, but last week I started giving her the Singulair again, and her colits symptoms have come back. Has anyone else experienced this in relation to Singulair?

I have a huge indention on my left hip, supposedly as the result of an injection I received 4 months ago. I got a steroid shot (not sure the name) for a rash and itching. No immediate side effects and then about 2 mos. later I notice a lump on my hip about the size of a marble that was brown discolored spot. Then I remembered about the shot and thought it was a result of that. Forgot about it until about 6 weeks later when I got out of the shower and noticed a huge indention about the size of a golf ball on my left hip. A week later, I started having pain at that site which would radiate across my entire lower back, down my leg and up my arm. Sometimes the pain was dull, sometimes like a bad burning sensation with tingling all over. I went to the dr. and he thinks the indention is from the injection but is sending me to an orthopedic dr. this week for more testing due to the pain I am having. Maybe related, or not, I found a lump in my left breast this week, had it checked and have to go to an imaging center next week for more testing. Could this be related?? Also I missed 2 periods after the injection and my last period wasn't normal. Please keep posting these comments from others. I'm going to call my dr. Monday to get the name of the injection.

Male 28. Was diagnosed a couple of months ago with Ulcerative Colitis and was prescribed Prednisone. A large dose to start with then tampered off for 4 weeks. The first week I felt great, better than great, fantastic. The only downside was difficulty sleeping. The following 3 weeks, without any exaggeration have been among the worst I have ever experienced. I think the lack of sleep finally caught up with me, so I was constantly tired and generically felt depressed, also knee ache, eye pain, inability to think clearly (quite a problem when you are an Engineer), lacked energy or strength – and the Acne. Never before have I had Acne like this, and I used to suffer quite bad during my teens. Its just so aggressive, every few hours there seems to be new ones appearing. It seems to occur when ever I step down the dose. I think having this bad skin has really added to my depression over the last few weeks, it has been especially difficult considering I have been in the process of starting a new job. To top all of that my UC seems to be worst than ever! I’m worried that when I go back to see the Doctor next week he is going to put me on some equally-annoying medication or maybe another course of Prednisone if I’m lucky.

Does anyone know of some natural alternatives that are good for UC, very reluctant to put anymore man-made chemicals into my body.

Prescribed for sinus pressure and dizziness. Throat tightness like throat closing up, dizziness and off balance. Severe, severe acne, I am 40 years old and it has been disfiguring. I have tried to stop this medication before but have always gotten weakness and out of sorts feeling when I stop even for a day my body starts to withdrawal. This time the acne is SO bad that I am pushing through. I haven't taken it for 3 days now and am weak, fatigued and keep having blood sugar drops. Sucks, but the acne has made me all but a recluse so I have to do something. This sucks, my doc knew I was sensitive to medications, but said that this nose spray wasn't a "systemic" steroid. I beg to differ as I feel feel awful now that I've stopped. Anyone else have problems with "systemic" symptoms ??

I am a 41 year old woman who had an epidural injection using Kenalog in my lower back (for stenosis, disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, etc.). My first injection was on 4/1/09. About two weeks after the injection, my period started a week early. I had light to moderate spotting, not quite like my normal period. I also noticed that I broke out with major acne, had bad mood swings, constant urination and increased hunger. I had a second injection in my back on 429/09. I told my pain management Dr. what I had been experiencing, and he said that it was the side affect of the drug, Kenalog.

I just saw my GYN for my yearly pap smear and told him what I had been experiencing. He said he had never hear of anything like what I was going through as it related to an epidural injection, though he also admitted it wasn't his area of expertise. Due to my age, my GYN commented that the spotting I was having could be due to my body changing and getting ready for menopause. He said that spotting was very common in women my age. He gave me a prescription for Progesterone 100mg to start taking for 15 days to see if that stopped my spotting (and hopefully return my cycle back to normal). He also did a uterine biopsy to rule out any other causes. My uterine biopsy came back normal. I'm currently taking the progesterone and my period seems to be tapering off, but it still hasn't stopped. It went from spotting to more heavy bleeding to spotting again. I'm due to stop the progesterone on Tuesday 5/26/09 so we'll see what happens there. It's officially been six weeks of having a period.

I'm very frustrated that I've had a menstrual cycle this long. I canceled my other future epidural injections as right now, by back in doing much better (the injections did help, though the side affects are the pitts!). If my back flares up, I will seek other solutions as I will NEVER have any Kenalog again.

For those women who've had the same issue with their menstrual cycle, did your cycle ever return to normal? If so, when???

Due to chest infection I was on bottle after bottle of prednisone for 3 months.
I had the nerves of full blown menopause with no relief!! Thank god for a caring family. They could have walked out, no one could have blamed them. Anyway, I went on vacation for one week 9 months later, and came home with my 5th, yes 5th bladder infection, Dr. put a test strip, and low and behold...I have diabetics and (my number was 495 a1c was 10+), steroid induced he told me. 2 years later I do not eat sugar at all, (numbers are 120+ aic is still 7.5+) I still have diabetics and cataract in right eye. No one in my family has it, just me. Better make sure the cure for one is worth a lifelong battle with the other. There must be a better way to fix lung infections!!! I also had a heart attack since then, don't know when it just showed up on my last physical, I was clear on the physical prior to chest infection. I now have a DNR tatto on my right wrist...I don't have insurance and I'll be damned if the medical profession ends up with what little I have to leave to my family. As I said, make sure the cure is worth what it may cost you!!!

Back in October last year i was having really bad pain behind my eyes - they hurt on movement. I went to my doctors 8 times within two weeks - he kept giving me pain killers saying it was a tension headache. The last appointment i had with him id lost the vision in my right eye - they eventually referred me to the hospital. After loads of tests and questions they finally put me on Steroids and strong antibiotics via drip and i had MRI scans but by then i had lost my sight completed and was told i would never regain my sight as my nerves were severely damage. After a week or so on Prednisone my sight was getting slightly better in the left eye which was great i could think about seeing my son again. I have been taking Prednisone along with loads of other tables one for my bones and nerves and folic acid and very strong painkillers etc for months. I tried to reduce my dose as directed and my condition got worse the pain behind my eyes came back and they they said i had C.R.I.O.N so now im back on a high dose and im also taking azathioprine. I have experienced all the side affects of this drug - Round Face (moon face) server muscle cramp - i was unable to walk for 8 hours a few weeks ago i was in so much pain. Terrible bad back - shoulder blades hurts. Terrible spots. Really bad heaches. Eye pain. Water retention. Sleeping problems. Mood swings. Theres to many to list. This drug helped me regain my sight but i cant wait for the azathioprine to get into my system so i can start to reduce the steroid and start loosing some weight and get rid of all the other side affects.

I have been taking lisinopril for about 15 years and had no problems..until yesterday! I had to go to the ER room. My face blew up like a balloon and had a rash all over my body My lips swelled so much that they were beginning to crack and bleed. I was told it was the lisinopril by the doctor in the ER. They put me on a steroid and benadryl thru intervenience. I had to wait a few hours to make sure my tongue wasn't going to swell. I was told in the ER that you could take this medication for fifty years and then one day this could happen.
The doctor dais it was a good thing I came to the ER room. My tongue could have swelled and then I would have had a severe case of not being able to breath.I was told to go home and throw them in the garbabe. He called my doctor and called in a new script. I haven't picked it up yet
Just wanted to warn any one if you get any swelling and a rash go to the ER asap.

I was put into the hospital in March '06 after using a carpet protectant that I purchased at the pet store. The chemicals in the product burned my lungs and I spent about 3 weeks in the hospital and was given prednisone for 10 -12 days. I remained in the hospital after my lung function increased because of the sever pain in my knees. My husband was going nuts trying to tell the doctors that he read on the internet that prednisone causes problems with knees and joints but they didn't believe him and kept running tests. They eventually switched the steroid to solumedrol and the pain decreased. I was sent home with less pain which eventually went away....but not for long. 7 months later, I began to have knee pain, which continued to get worse each day. The 1st Ortho told me that I tore a ligament and that the dead bone on the MRI will grow back. I didn't like that answer and eventually went back to an orthopedic surgeon I saw a few years prior for an injury I had while doing gymnastics. He took one look at my MRI and diagnosed me with AVN in my right knee. I got my 1st total knee replacement in August '07, a manipulation in October '07. While recovering, I noticed that my left knee was hurting and thought it was from using it so much and compensating for the right one......but I was wrong. I got an MRI on my left knee and once again, I have AVN. I got my 2nd knee replacement in January '08, a manipulation in February '08 and a 2nd manipulation in March '08. I'm now 29 years old, with asthma (from the carpet spray) 2 fake knees and have had the worst 3 years ever while going through all of this. I now have pain in my 1st replaced knee......under my knee and toward the inside. I go back to my surgeon tomorrow and am dreading another surgery.

If anyone has any questions, I'll try to help you as much as I can.

J.

I was on prednisone while getting over pneumonia to help with my breathing. I was only on it for 7 days and the doctor didn't have me go off of it gradually. I missed the last dose on the 7th day and by bedtime, my muscles were sore enough it almost hurt to lay down. I took the last pill that night before I went to bed and had no muscle soreness in the morning. After that, the muscle soreness came back, along with dizziness. My pulse was also higher than normal. Two days later at night, I was still having muscle soreness and dizziness, although not nearly as but, but I was having a lot of trouble breathing and my pulse would refuse to go below 100 no matter what I did and the problems continued thought the night. The next morning I went to the clinic that prescribed me the predisone because the information they gave me said to see a doctor if these problems persisted. I told them I thought I might be having a predisone withdrawal because my mother, a nurse, said it was the most likely problem from experience. They completely ignored that saying it had been several days since I've stopped the steroid and kept asking me about my asthma (inhalers weren't working and it was definitely not an asthma attack -- I've had plenty of those, to all different degrees) and ended up giving me medicine for anxiety, which helped the closing of my throat, but none of my other symptoms. Three days later, my resting pulse is down to 80, but my breathing is so much worse than it would be with just my normal asthma and taking my inhalers as much as is allowed. I had no noticeable symptoms when I was on the prednisone except being less able to sleep. If it keeps up, I intend to go to a different doctor to see what is really happening, but I don't think it's 'normal' to have the withdrawal symptoms for this long after only having it for 7 days. I know I took it when I was younger (I'm 22), but I don't remember ever having issues going off of it before.

My name is Heather I am now 32 years old I took levaquin when i was 29. After i took levaquin I went on a roller coaster ride I have yet to be able to get off of. First when i took it I had the worst night mares i have ever had only to wake up to a splitting headache and a very sore body. took another one the next day same reaction.I figured it was the bronchitis that was causing the problem. on the third day i was worse still I could hardly move. I stopped taking the drug. after another two days i felt better. two weeks later I was out with my father and he noticed a rash on my legs. I was also starting to get little blood blisters. I started to become concerned and the next day after going to the zoo with my family i came home and my legs were swollen three times there normal size and very sore. I put them up just to find the felt like play dough had been stuffed in to them and I had blood blisters the size of pencil erasers. I made an appointment to see the doctor. he said and i Quote " Heather I have No idea what the Hell you have" he sent me to a specialist. between the time of my first appointment and the appointment with the specialist my legs stopped working from the hips down i was 90% paralyzed (not spelled right ) they just wouldn't work right. My ten year old daughter was helping me get to the bathroom. I was soooo sick i had a headache all the time couldn't eat or sleep and when i did it was only for a few hours I couldn't move very well and to get up out of bed hurt so bad i almost fell every morning. by the time i had gotten to the specialist I had gone to the E.R. three times for the pain.and the last time was because my toes stopped moving altogether. at the appointment the doctor ran all kinds of tests checking me for everything from S.T.D.s (which i have been happily married for years) to Lupus. I felt Like and 80 year old Lady And like i said i was only 29. after the extensive tests and everything coming back normal the doctor put me on a steriod. for 4 months i was told i had to take prednisone After the first dose i could move again I still hurt but i could move. But now i had the side effect from that. i was gaining weight like it was going out of style, but at least i could move. after the 4 months things seemed normal kinda. I could move but if i sit still to long my legs go numb not fall sleep go completely numb even if i am standing to long. I am still afraid that i will wake up again feeling like i did that Fall three years ago. I still have problems but im not sure they are tied in but it wouldn't surprise me in the least. I only took three Pills of Levaquin three years ago!!!! How long does this stuff hang on really??????

My daughter has Aloepecia Areata. Has anyone taken Kenalog to grow hair back. My doctors saying this may work and did mention about the dimpling effect. Not in the detail I read here, though. He made it sound like it would just be a dimple. I did not get the shot in his office, wanted to research some more. By the way, she is only a 11 yrs old. Not sure whether to try this stuff after reading all this.

I have a 3 year old that was taking Singulair until today after I read the horrible side effects that I was seeing in my child. He is also taking Flonase, one squirt in each notstril every morning. Are there any concerns I need to know? Is this truly safe for a 3 year old?

I received a shot of what I thought was my regular prednisone steriod in November 07. Obviously, that wasn't the case. I must have received this Kenalog shot because now I have a golf ball size dent in my upper buttocks. It is not going away and I think it could be getting worse more than 9 months later. I would be interested in a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer of this product and/or my allergist. Please contact me with possible ways to make this look less obvious. ******

Thanks

On lipitor for 1 1/2 years.... starting taking yoga a month ago. Had ache in knee and leg which then went to toe on other leg. Thought it was overstretching from yoga. Pain moved to hips and lower back. All very painful but worst was yet to come. Pain moved to neck and shoulders. Could not move head. Excruciating SOBBING pain. I was in so much pain for weekend. Everyone wanted me to go to emergency room but I wanted to stick it out til Monday.

PS... went on web. Saw this is lipitor side effect. never would have expected that after 1 1/2 yrs on a 10 mg dose.

Went to pain management doctor ... got Soma (muscle relaxant), an oral steroid and Percoset. Relief was almost instant.

Called my cardiologist. He says it is the Lipitor.

No more statins for me.
And back to yoga.

Hey Everyone! I have some of the same side effects as most of you. I got the shot for my allergies on January 15. I literally had a non-stop period. My period would last for two weeks with an average of only 2 days in between the next period. I did not want to get put on birth control, so I kept hoping for my period to regulate itself or for the medicine to leave my system, but none of that ever happened. I went to see my physician on June 3. (That means I was on my period from January to June.)

I explained what happened to him, and he told me that he wanted to try medicine that is NOT birth control. He explained that the Kenalog shot, a steriod, probably interfered with my hormones. In order for a woman's body to function normally, she must have a normal balance of estrogen and progesterone. I had way too much estrogen because I was always on my period, so he put me on a drug called Provera (medroxyprogesterone) for seven days. I am happy to say that the drug worked, and I have been off of my period for SIX days so far! My physician also told me that it may take up to two months for my body to figure itself out and for my period to start again.

I hope this helps someone. Provera worked for me, so maybe it will work for those who do not want to get on birth control!

(A divorced father)
My son has been on Singulair now 5 years and I am in the middle of fighting to get him off. My son is now 7 years old and has been diagnosed with allergies (no test have been done which I find very odd), which leads to a case of mild asthma. This past weekend his mother forgot his Singular on Friday so I could not give him any till the next day, where we met at his soccer game. Saturday night I gave him his usual pill and thankfully due to his exhaustion from playing out side all day he went to sleep in 10 min. vs 3 hrs later which is the norm since Singulair seems to jack him up.
He also has red puffiness under his eyes - most likely allergies.
Seems depressed - just driving down the road and I look at him in the rear view mirror and he just sits and stares into space. When I ask what's wrong he either says nothing or I am tired.
He will try to tell a story or think for himself and just stops mid sentence and says " never mind I am just confused"
He will be having fun one moment and just starts crying or gets depressed.
He was throwing a ball in the house (yes I know) and accidentally knocked a glass over breaking it - he went running to his room, crawled under his bed and sobbed profusely for over 30 min.
He has a hard time doing / focusing on homework - becomes bored very easily.
Does not want to go outside. I will take him to allot of cultural events/ hands on or participation events - he will not try anything. He is unsure and will not come out of his box so to speak.
I spoke with his doctor who was reluctant to take him off, but then agreed that if it was OK with the ex, to take him off for a week to see what happens.
The fun part: My ex is convinced that since he has been on Singulair for 5 years he is fine and does not need to come off it.

1.) Son is diagnosed with mild asthma or allergy induced asthma.
He has never had an allergy test done and has not had a lung function test in over a year.

2.) It is documented that our son has four outbreaks a year. (sounds like the changing of the seasons) but is given Singulair all year round and the dosage has also been increased.

3.) Since the court order, ordered my ex to enroll our son in sports (she would not let him play anything) he does not wheeze or cough uncontrollably.

4.) Since I had to battle to get our son on my insurance I have cut her control issues off a little, but she is refusing to take him off Singular just for a week to see how he reacts. Although I do agree that he should have some form of allergies medicine.

5.) When I found out about the side effects of Singulair, I also found that his doctor was getting ready to add two other allergy medicines to his portfolio - totaling 3 different meds.

I see our sons behavior getting worse and I watch him turn into something he is not and with a controlling individual not believing anything about the side effects it looks like I will have to rely on the medical system to prove my point. I do believe he needs to be accurately tested for allergies and given a regularly lung function test but most of all since he is now on my insurance, a second opinion and a 3rd to narrow down what the situation is and an alternative medical procedure that is fit for the symptoms.

I have a herniated disc L5S1. I had my first of six injections in September of 2006. for three months I had problems with my periods. After my third shot my husband and I decided to start trying to get pregnant. We wanted to try earlier but my back pain stopped us from trying. Ever since I received the first shot I have had problems with fertility. I do not get the cervical mucas anymore. This mucas keeps the sperm alive and helps them travel to the egg. I also had an ectopic pregnancy a year ago in April of 2007. I know that Kenalog has had something to do with both of these issues. I have been trying to get pregnant again for about 9 months with no sucess. My husband has been checked out so we know that it is not him. I have a son so I know that everything was fine before these shots. When I talk to my doctor about my problems they tell me it is not the Kenalog because it does not stay in your system for that long. I say that this is a steriod and you always here how bad they are and the horrible side effects. I know that this stuff is the reason that I cannot get pregnant and it is probably what caused the ectopic pregnancy that almost killed me.

I've had Mirena IUD since July 06. Since then I've had incredible mood swings and have been so emotional. I basically was forced to quit a dream job b/c I had trouble being "professional" - that is keeping my cool and not having temper tantrums and snapping at people. Now, with no co-workers, I am doing it to my in-laws. I yell at my kids like I've never yelled at them before. They are scared of me at times. I was forced to see a counselor on 2 occasions when I had incidents at work and was suggested to see a psych for medication for my depression. I am against doing that. I had been trying so hard to lose weight and just wrote it off as being 35+. Just this summer, I started having pain in my right upper thigh and groin area which would radiate all over my leg, knee, shin, hip, low back - just depending on what I was doing. They couldn't figure out the prob so I went through a series of epidural steroid shots which have not helped much. Also, in the past year or so, I seem to not be as mentally sharp. I have trouble recalling names and facts that I should know. I feel like I have early Alzheimer's or something. Also, have that issue with my eyes where I sorta need reading glasses. Eye Dr. said I was a little young at 36 to have that. Have trouble getting things done and staying focused. Feel like I have adult onset AD&D. Other things that are more occasional include: not healing as quickly from minor scrapes and such, some drop in sex drive with some discomfort during sex, some hair loss but I've had that in the past from time to time, dizziness at times, shortness of breath, a cyst which I've never had before. I called my ob/GYN today and I am getting this out of me ASAP. I will definitely miss not having a period but we naturally have a period and it must be for a reason. I would rather deal with that.

IA huge thanks to you guys for putting this info out there, because I'm sure the Singulair website wouldn't go into detail about this, and tell about side effects it has: FYI -->

This was what I found on the Singulair website, no more, no less (see post below this one please)

'm really sad to hear that these things happened to you guys and your children.

My 8yr old (55 lbs) son got a cough that ended up lasting about 4 weeks, so i finally took him to his pediatrician. He gave him a breathing treatment and hinted at him having asthma- but he wasn't sure. We have no family history of asthma and in my mind i thought it was pretty far fetched, but we continued the breathing treatment for about 2 weeks and my son cleared right up.

We came back in the Friday after Thanksgiving for a check up and his doctor said that my son sounded much better. The doctor said that looking over my son's medical history (not much of anything) he said he could have asthma-but he wanted to put him on Singulair for the next 3 months until the winter is over.

He said it would be a preventative measure to keep my son's symptoms from "flaring" up. The doctors said " This is not a steroid, and there are NO side effects. Its a once daily chew able for children." I thought-hmmm that's a first, a drug with no side effects. Then I was thinking" "What symptoms was the doctor referring to?" He had a really bad cough he got while visiting his dad's family (bug going around). But I held my tongue and just nodded. He wrote out the prescription, and I left. I heisted as I pulled out in front of the pharmacy and then kept driving.

I felt uneasy about the whole thing. Giving him a daily medication for a condition (asthma) I doubted my son had. Glad I did my homework, I decided to not fill the prescription. I don't feel the least bit guilty for not giving him the meds.

My 8yo son has been on Singulair for his asthma for about 2 weeks and he has complained of a 'sick tummy' regularly, ending up in tears because he can't do things. We have had a long run of this, perhaps due to the 8 lots of penicillin for tonsillitis, and some tummy bugs going around the schools I work in. The doctor has been suggesting irritable bowel syndrome so we didn't think of the Singulair side effects until it has got so bad that he is not going to school. He has been unusually clingy and almost paranoid about small things that don't usually worry him over the past couple of weeks. We were trying these tablets as he has been on steroid based preventer since he was 3 and we wanted to get him off the cortisone stuff. After reading here he is off the Singulair today and we will report the side effects to the paediatrician.

I've been on Biaxin for bronchitis for four days now, following a trip to the ER for breathing problems. I thought it was allergies. The first two days weren't too bad except for the extreme thirst and not being able to sleep (and the gas). If I happened to go to sleep I would have weird dreams and wake up again. I don't know if was the Biaxin or the hydrocodone cough syrup. With the third day, I couldn't think straight and I couldn't remember words. Could be lack of sleep, I guess. Conversations were difficult. I felt spacey. At the same time, I felt like I was on fast-forward: hurry up, hurry up, gotta go, gotta go, gotta get it done, faster, faster! This is the fourth day. I'm still on fast-forward and still dizzy and spacey. My blood pressure is up and my heart rate is down. My pulse is 55. It's time for another dose, but I'm not taking it. In fact, I'm going off all my meds except the blood pressure pills in case it's a drug interaction that's not mentioned. I'll call my own doctor in the morning and talk to him. I trust him more than the anonymous ER doc.
