I was on Yasmin for 3 years, at first I thought it was a perfect fit for me - I had shorter, less painful periods. Over the course of the next 2 years I had CHRONIC Urinary tract infections and yeast infections. I mean like 10 a YEAR. My gyno didn't know what was wrong (I'm meticulous about cranberry juice, cleaning, etc) and prescribed me a antibiotic. I had to take one pill after intercourse. Well, apparently 1 was enough to throw off the balance and I'd end up with a yeast infection.
In addition to all that I TOTALLY lost my sex drive. I've been off the pill now for 4 months and I'm still waiting for it to return.
I wouldn't reccomend this pill to anyone.

I have been on NuvaRing for almost three weeks. Just a few days in I experienced headaches, nausea, cramps, a loss of sex drive, I have been extremely irritable. I just recently had a miscarriage and hadn't started my period so I decided to start taking birth control to make me regular again. I was told to keep taking it that side effects would lower and I would feel fine again soon. Still waiting for that to happen.

I have been on Lamictal for 6 weeks, working up to 100 mg once a day for seizure control in addition to Topamax (100 mg) and Keppra (3,000 mg). As the dosage has increased, the side effects have become unbearably worse. I am so sick to my stomach, I can't eat. My headaches are horrible, and all I want to do is sleep. The only thing that keeps me from sleeping is my pounding pulse rate and shallow breathing... I'm still waiting on a phone call from the neurologist to see what I'm supposed to do about this.
I noticed several other mentions of a lack of ambition. I'm now noticing my own lack of will power. Good luck to all of you.

I've been on Yaz for 1 year now. I've been in a deep depression since September ( 6 months on Yaz) for which I've had to seek treatment. It took 4 months to get me straightened out on medications and still daily I struggle with it.

Also I've noticed right shoulder pain, weight gain (60 pounds), no libido, chronic fatigue, bloating with horrible gas.Is all of this from the Yaz or is it my depression or what? I'm having a really hard time sorting thru all of this.

I've never been on any formd of birth control before. But after having my 2 kids, Me and my husband decide not to have anymore soon.
My OBGYN recommended nuvaring, I like the fact that u control your own cycle and its 99.9% efeective.
ANYWAYS, its been over a year now since I first started it, and just to let u know, there side effects arent going anywhere.
At first, I hate the way it makes me feel, so I called my GYN. She recommended to use it for 3 months and the side effects will all go away.(My body just need to get use to the harmone).
Well, its been over 3 months and I'm still waiting for the side effects to go away.
I HAD ALMOST ALL THESE SIDE EFFECTS LISTED HERE.
-Crying for no reason
-depression. (suicicidal thoughts)
-having trouble sleeping
-upper Resp. infections (during the mornings when I wake up, I have a severe runny nose, headaches, and I feel like I'm pregnant having morning sickness). I would also cough up alot of THICK MUCUS off my chest.

I started taking lisinopril in June, I have been going back and forth with problems but not once was I told it possibly was the lisinopril, tests upon tests upon tests! My complaints are severe fatique, I would walk about 20 feet and feel like I walked 10 miles, it seems any old injuries I have ever had have come back and are so sore and sensitive I can barely stand it, even to brush my hair is so painful, at first i thought it was the spirlactone/hydroclothorizide I was taking ,now I think it is probably the lisinopril, I have the cough, not real severe but it is there off and on, I have been gaining weight, 3 to 4 pounds everytime I go back to the doc. hands going numb, I try to eat healthy and to chew an apple fatiqued me so much I couldn't stand it, I've been telling my doctor all this stuff and he just keeps ordering more tests and bloodwork, I'm still waiting for the results of my last bloodwork where he took me off my meds for 3 days, he suspects something wrong with my kidneys, this is very frightening, they are also saying I may be diabetic and there is no history in our family either. I still can't believe the extreme fatique and weakness, when I get up after sitting my feet and back are so painful it is pathetic, now my knees are starting to hurt too! I've had ankle problems and back injuries years ago, but the pain is so severe, it's like it just happened, I'm beside myself, I will definetly be talking to the doctor about this!! Thanks to everyone for posting this information, I would have had no idea that the lisinopril could cause all these problems, I stopped taking the spirolactone and hydro, but now am wondering if this was any of the problem at all.I also had the cramping in my legs, neck, head, still i thought it was the other drug, boy I hope I can get answers, they started me at 10 and now I'm taking 30's the doc said if it doesn't take care of the b/p the dosage can go up to 85 "so there is lots of room to work with"......... I don't think so!!!! I also am very sensitive to cold or heat, man I'm a wreck!!! I went to the doctor to feel better!!!

I was in an auto accident end of October 2005. I have neck and back injuries. I have had 4 injections in 3 months ( 2 for the neck and 2 for the back). I had irregular periods. After first injection, I had a period next day which lasted for 3 days. I was not due until 10 days later which is when I did get my period again. After the other injections same deal, period too early and then again when scheduled. After last injection end of June, I did not get my period. Last cycle was June 13. It is now almost August. I had blood test to check testosterone level and it was normal. Still waiting on rest of test. I started to grow hair on face, neck, back, chest and arms more than supposed to for a woman in her 30s. I was diagnosed with a slight case of hirsutism. I am trying to get to the bottom of what is messed up in my body to correct it- the hair growth and missed period. I did not know there were side effects and Dr. said I am the first person in 14 years to make that complaint. My fiance' was in the accident with me and has had 2 shots and he has experienced increase growth of hair (at least he can shave it) and his testosterone level is low. Now he needs to see and endocrinologist. I have to see my OB/GYN to try to resolve this. My cycles were normal before this procedure. Sure it helped to take away some of the pain but now the pain is coming back. I am not having anymore injections and it looks as if I have to have surgery on my back, shoulder and neck. It helped one thing temporarily but has left me with new problems to face when I had enough on my plate. Also, I agree with Guest who posted the short term memory. I have had problems with that since the accident and primarily notice it since the injections. I seem to reverse letters at times when typing. I did not have this before. Here are some side effects from a website I found online.

Are anyone else's boobs sore? Mine are usually sore before I start my period, but I started taking Yasmin two weeks ago and my boobs are sore to the touch. That's the only side effect I'm having right now. Still waiting for my skin to clear up.

Lisa and Antiyasmin,

Thanks for the info. I have been off the pill for about a week now and I'm still waiting for BP to decrease. I'm just hoping this is a side effect of the medication. Unfortunately for me my GYN just doesn't seem to think it is the medication and my internist thinks it might be. I think perhaps if my GYN was a little more diligent I think I could have gotten off the pill before it was as high as it is now. Wish me luck!

Hello,

My name is Noelle, and I had no idea all this information was out on yasmin and its side effects. I am 35, and had adult on-set acne, the obgyn said yasmin would be great. I took it for three months - until one evening I woke up with my heart beating nearly out of my chest! my heart-rate was over 240 a minute, started skipping in and out of rhythm, and my husband drove me to the emergency room. They gave me medication to stop my heart from beating completely, and then restart it again (which had to be given a second time at a higher doseage since the first time did not work). I have no history of immediate heart problems in my family, and have no history at all myself of heart problems - I walked out of the ER being diagnosed with PSVT. It is a condition they say I will have for life. I have been to a cardiologist, and still waiting for some tests to come back, but she too says I will have a choice of being on my heart medicine (beta blocker) for life, or having some sort of operation. I have no idea what happened to start this, and seeing as it happened at night, I became afraid to go to sleep. After doing some reasearch online, I met another gal who has the same diagnosis and linked it to her Birth control pill - the same one I started three months earlier - Yasmin. I too believe this was a cause of this pill. I have been off this pill now for about two-three weeks, and only one other episode of racing heart - and nowhere near what it had been, more like around 130. Is there anyone else out there who has been diagnosed with PSVT on Yasmin? It is nice to see that so many of you have symptoms that are now disappearing once off the pill.

My biggest whine is I am addicted to Diet Coke and now it tastes awful I about died the first time I drank one after I took my medicine I was hoping it was the drink that was bad...... afraid not I miss them!!! I am also still waiting on the weight loss

I've been told by lots of Yasmin-victims that it may take 2 up to 3 months until your body is completely detoxed from the hormones, some people felt better after 4 months, it's really different for everyone.

I got off Yasmin 4 1/2 weeks ago and am also still waiting for better times... Some things have already "changed", some symptoms are different then they were about a few weeks ago, some have lessened a little, but not really got better. I hope that will come soon... Don't have much power to get through this all any longer.

Best wishes to you all out there!!

My 15 yr. old daughter was given Levaquin at age 12, thats 3 years ago. After the first pill she started having leg muscle cramps and pain in her elbow. As the more of the 5 pills she was to take went on she continued with joint pain in knees and hips and her feet. Well its been 3 years of this and she is no better, the pain is not severe all the time but it is still there. What are you suppose to do. Why was she given this medicine when it plainly states on the package not to give to children under the age of 18, well the PA who saw her did not pay attention to this and the Doctor who signed his charts did not catch it either. I am sure the Dr. didnot even read the notes, but reguardless my daughter is left with these painful side effects and the Orthopedist we took her to right after it happened said oh give it time it will get out of her system. Well we are still waiting 3 years later. How much worse is it going to get? I have hired an Attorney but as there are no case studies on children he cannot do anything. There is plenty of case studies on small or young animals. A shame I didnt give birth to a animal isnt it. Please tell me where I can find my answer to the studies reported on children. We are desparate I want to know when this is going to stop? thank you mltbranch

I was wondering if anyone has heard about Dilantin having sexual side effects. Because of the Dilantin I started taking Depo-Provera for my birth control, and I don't know which one could be affecting my sex drive. I have since stopped the Depo but am still waiting for my sex drive to return.

I started taking Yasmin in August and stopped taking it five weeks ago.

Whilst I was taking this horrible pill I was subject to the worst stomach cramps, bloating, constant GAS!, my weight increased, my breasts were HUGE, sore and itchy, I was dizzy constantly, I had NO SEX DRIVE whatsoever, my appetite increased and I couldn't stop eating, and worst of all I had a dreadful bout of thrush that lasted the entire two months (and still remains a problem today).

I honestly thought there was something wrong with me, like I wasn't healthy but it was this pill all along. I can only be thankful I didn't suffer from anxiety attacks like so many of you.

If you are suffering from these dreadful side effects and you have not been feeling your normal self since you started taking Yasmin, stop taking it immediately and see your doctor. I acknowledge that some of you have not experienced any negative side-effects. It's great if you can find a pill that suits you.

After five weeks Yasmin-free I'm getting back to normal. The awful side-effects have disappeared although I'm still waiting for my sex drive to return and the thrush is still causing problems. Fingers crossed!!!

About a month or so ago I stopped taking Meloden 21 (a pill frequently used in Switzerland) after having taken it for about two years, not because I was necessarily having adverse side-effects, but because it wasn't helping reduce my cramps. I went to my gyno who highly recommended Yasmin. I haven't started taking it yet because I missed my period this month, so am still waiting, but maybe I should be relieved?! I actually just happened to come across this site because I was curious to find out in what ways Yasmin helps..so I'm a bit worried! Reading these entries has brought to my attention something that I was not aware of before, and that is that many others have had little or no sex drive as well as anxiety attacks, which is what I have been suffering from and I'm only 21! Could it be that all pills have this effect, not only Yasmin? I suppose that I would be crazy to take this pill but in a way I want to see if I start noticing the same symptoms..?

Hello,

I have been using Yasmin for a little over a month, and I am still trying to decide how I feel about it. I was switched over to this pill from Cyclessa because my doctor thought the diuretic effects might help my moderately elevated blood pressure. In fact, my blood pressure dropped dramatically--almost to the level it had been at prior to ever starting birth control pills. I was pleased by this, but then I had my first period since starting Yasmin.

The first thing I noticed was in increase in cramping and nausea during my period--because I have been on birth control pills for 2.5 years, I'd forgotten what that was like. My cramping was worse on Yasmin, than when I was on Cyclessa or Apri. I have also experienced mood swings on Yasmin, particularly in the first 2 weeks of starting the pill. This seems to have gotten better, but now I am having mild nausea that may or may not be caused by Yasmin.

I guess I am going to give Yasmin another month or two, and then decide whether or not to stick with it. In general, my experience with birth control pills has been more positive than negative. I am concerned about the side effects regarding increased Potassium levels. Does anyone know more about this? I was not told about this potential side effect at the time the pill was perscribed, and am somewhat concerned. I have had the recommended blood test, and am still waiting to find out the results.

I used to take Yasmin for about two years. I've been off Yasmin for about 6 weeks now. I'm still waiting for all the horrible side effects to go away...I hope this BCP didn't cause any permanent damage; I just wish my daily migraines and mood swings would go away!

One good thing about Yasmin, however, is that it gets rid of cramps. I used to have severe cramps every month to where I'd pass out. After taking Yasmin for about 7 months, the cramps dissappeared. Unfortuneately, I started my period a few days ago and the cramps were back and as bad as ever :(
