I was prescribed Yaz for my PMDD. I have been on it 10 days now and have bled for the full 10 days.
I have had no energy, feel paranoid, and have very strong urges to commit suicide.
I am shaking, sweating, can't sleep and terrible nightmares.
I am crying for no reason.
I am so glad I found this site. I really thought I was losing my mind.
I'm going to the doctor in a little bit for a full explanation as to why I was not informed of these side effects?
He made it out to be the cure to so many years of PMDD.
I was excited to have finally found Yaz now I wish I had never started it.

I'm entering into my third pack of Loestrin 24 Fe. I had an IUD for 5 years, was to have it replaced on 12/29/08 but could not take the extreme pain when inserting so didn't do it. Don't know why it was so unbearably painful this time vs. 5 years ago. Anyway, doctor gave me 6 free samples of Loestrin 24 Fe. At first I had no problem, no need to use back up method because medicine from IUD was still in my system so transition was a breeze. First month on Loestrin, I bled for 2 days but so light that it wasn't even noticeable, second month didn't bleed at all, now I'm half way through my third pack. The mood swings are unbearable. I am now suffering from diarrhea and stomach cramps that are so painful I find myself in a ball on the bathroom floor moaning in pain as well as nausea. Although the lack of period was nice the strain of wondering if I'm pregnant is just too stressful.
I personally don't recommend Loestrin 24 to anyone unless of course you like monthly guessing of whether or not your pregnant, sever mood swings, diarrhea and stomach cramps so painful you would give your left arm for it to go away.
Since I don't want to get pregnant nor risk any chances of getting pregnant, I am suffering through this last pack and will go on another type of birth control. I plan on having my tubes tied this summer.
I don't recommend this pill to anyone. One more side effect, tender breasts so severe that it hurts to wear a bra and not wear a bra, I can't win.
For those skeptics, no I'm not pregnant and no I don't have a stomach bug, it is all from this pill.

I was prescribed Levaquin about 3 weeks ago for a possible sinius infection. I was reading the booklet that comes with the meds and saw some of the side effects, tendon rupture, dizziness, sleep issues, etc. I told the doctor I didn't want to take it because I already have some tendinitis in my shoulder and other aches and pains. He said okay, then went back to the doctor for follow up and said either take the med or lets do a CAT scan on my sinius's. I said okay I will take it and see what happens... Well It was 500 mg and I took it for only 4 days out of the 10 and my pains were worse. I can not sleep at night and have been getting very dizzy. I called the doctor and told him, and he didn't seem fazed by what I told him and said just to stop taking and prescribed another antibiotic. I have been off the med for 3 days now and I still can not sleep and still feel dizzy. How long is this going to last?
I go to a hematologist and two days ago told her about the med and she too said she can not take this med, it is very strong and she had the same feelings.
Has anyone been off this med, and for how long did the dizziness go away. I have two young kids and they both just got the stomach bug, and I'm so overtired and just want to sleep but I can not.

I am amazed. I got online to look up coupons for Lupron because the shot after insurance is $569. I found this blog here about all the discomforts of Lupron. I did some research before hand, but never saw this site. I have to say, I was in some pain on a daily basis for years until I had my two children and when I stopped breastfeeding the second, that is when my pain came back, but ten fold. My periods were more out of whack in pain and I had been on the IUD for 14 months at that poinr. Doctors always thought i just had some bad stomach virus or that it was in my head and I was full of too many symptoms, but low and behold, I started monitoring the pain, and it always fell on a cycle. The doctors still took no consideration-it is a stomach bug, did a bunch of tests for stomach viruses and bacterias, nothing came up. Lots of pain except when my period began. Then I was home free of pain for a goof 2 weeks. Months I had no period, no pain. 1-2 weeks before period, rash on my face, skin peeling off fingers and toes, hair always falling out in gobs, fingernails breaking so easily, nauseated most of the time, and back and abdomen pain that accompanied menstrual cramps from Hades and medium to heavy flow periods. Eventually I am in the ER again in a different city visiting my parents and they doc finds my gall bladder has completely stopped working and now producing "sludge". We figured that was my problem, the hormones and sickness following my cycle was just a fluke.
A little over a month after surgery. That 1-2 weeks before my period of torture turned into 2-3 weeks. I went into the ER with the same pains as before, the pains that should have gone away with removing gall bladder since that was supposed to be my problem....but obviously not.
My church began praying and a new set of doctors Come to find out my liver was very inflamed, my enzymes were very elevated, and finally I got someone to listen about the cyclitic nature of the sickness. Endo was brought up several times by different docs, my new primary care, a GI, and now GYN was concerned.
To make matters worse, I had completely lost my libido-I have always had in the norm but high testosterone to accompany high estrogen levels and as a diagnostic test to relieve the pain now coming from sex, I came off the IUD.Then I had 7 days of no pain in one month and then next month was 4 days of no pain. My bleeding became much much worse, the pain was outrageously bad. I did mention I have 2 kids-toddlers I stay at home with...I was not functioning well and recruiting help to care for them and my husband and home. If I did not have the knowledge and trust that the Lord does not give us more than we can handle, I could easily see how someone could fall into depression because at all times I was in some level of pain, even if it was just nagging.
My GYN wanted to avoid cutting into me at all costs, and because of all of the hormone and natural drug therapies I had previously been on prior to having children because of my menstrual cycles being so irregular (1-2 cycles a year heavy and painful lasting 2 weeks or more) and the bad reactions I had had to them, he said relief can come from hysterectomy-removing my ovaries as well, but he is concerned because I am 26 yrs young and that is such a big decision with many things at stake. I already had plans to adopt, not having any more children for lots of reasons including my health deteriating after each one, so he highly recommended a highly talented endocrinologist who took over. This endocrine doc would like to postpone surgery and decided insstead of performing the Laproscopic to look around, use the Lupron as a diagnostic test. If I got better within the next 3 months, it is my ovaries causing this pain. If I did not, we would continue for maximum of 6 months, and if I still didn't get better, then something else is causing my troubles outside of the female regions.
I was anxious because at that point, I could take no pain medicine whatsoever because my liver was still trying to detox from all the pain meds through the summer and fall. I drank lots of water, 86-120 oz on any given day, ate lots of grapefruits and oranges to clean me out, and waited for the shot to kick in. I had just gone into another cycle, pain now while bleeding a waterfall all day, no days off, and hoping the Lupron would be a relief. My church spread the word praying about the situation.
4 days later almost every symptom is gone. 7 days later I am totally pain free. I have had 23 days of no pain. I have always ate good healthy foods, some organic but not crazy about it, exercise when I am not throwing up nauseated or drained 2-4 days a week. I missed out on a lot because I was so miserably sick and pained and always tired. I have had more energy in these last 23 days than before. I don't HAVE to nap now when the children nap, I can make it through a full session of aerobic exercise without feeling nauseated or crampy. I can think more clearly now and have memories coming back to me that I thought I had lost.
I may be on the rare cases of the spectrum here-but I had to post to make sure that women searching knew Lupron was not all bad. I get my next dose this weekend. It burns some going in and is sore in the injection spot that day, but man, to be pain free and play with my kids again...that is worth the $569 right now. After my 3rd injection which will occur 2nd week of February, I will be meeting with my trusted GYN and endocrinologist to discuss my options next. I have spoke with them after 2 weeks pain free and they are thrilled with the results. I will continue on this program to make sure the symptoms stay gone and then I am looking into possible surgery. Of course we pray that a miracle happens and I stay pain free once coming off the shot, without the need for going under the knife, but either way, it is in the Lord's hands, and maybe all this happened to me so that I can share with you some encouragement in your times of suffering.

My 7 year old son has been on Singulair since this spring for a dry hacking cough and allergies. The Singulair worked great clearing up his symptoms. We have not seen any behavioral changes. Our doctor said he only needs to take it during fall and spring when his allergy induced asthma is the worst. Both times that I have taken him off of it for a seasonal reprieve he has developed a VERY PAINFUL STOMACH ACHE. He doesn't vomit, but he rolls around complaining that his tummy hurts. I have seen other posts concerning stomach aches when on the medication, but I am wondering if anyone else has had this experience when they went off of it. Even if he forgot his medication a couple of days, the stomach ache will present.

Wow! I've done a lot of reading post Mirena and wish I had spent the time before instead of just relying on the pamphlet from the Dr's office.
I made it a whole 3 days!
Insertion was fine but it should have raised a flag when the Dr said "oops, it slipped out, hang on one more minute". I felt fine all that day (Wednesday). By Thursday cramping was pretty intense, vomitting, diarrhea, low grade fever, lower back pain, headache, rapid heartbeat. Called Dr "Oops" & told me I had a stomach bug, symptoms not from Mirena. Friday sucked, stomach problems went away but everything else just got worse.
By Saturday I was immobile on the couch, no other way to describe it than to say it just friggen hurt! Dr "Oops" closed on the weekend so I went to the hospital. ER doc couldn't find the threads to take it out and didn't have the "magic tool" required to fish them out. His solution was take antibiotics for possible infection and a narcotic pain reliever (3 mo old little boy at home, narcotics not an option) and have it removed on Monday.
Being stubborn, I insisted on seeing the on-call OBGYN who was upstairs waiting to deliver a baby. He was kind enough to come down and fish the strings out without this "magic tool". The relief was immediate, especially given that the Mirena had turned 90 degrees inside me. I'm lucky it did no damage. This Dr explained that the symptoms should not have been that bad had it been in correctly.
I've been bleeding heavy with clotting since Sunday, cramping is nothing compared to what it was. Think I have a yeast infection brewing from antibiotics, just to add insult to injury. I am just glad to have it out!
I would have to rate Mirena up there in the top 5 most unpleasant experiences of my life. Please do your homework and weigh your options before trying Mirena. The pamphlet from the doctor's office doesn't tell the half of it. And if you do decide to have it, consider having it done on a Monday to give yourself a few days to see how you like it before the weekend arrives. I'm sure having it come out of place is rare, but I'm proof it can happen. Good Luck to all :)

Obviously a lot of the gals taking this hormonal formulation need to get a totally different one. What surprises me are all the first-time BC users whose doctors are putting them on a rather high-dose pill (not technically high dose, but it is the highest you can be under the "Low Dose" heading). I would think their doctors would've put them on something very very low and go from there.
Anyways, I was on BC pills for 8 years before we decided to start a family. However, ever since having my first child 4 years ago, I couldn't find a pill that could control my period. It seemed that when I was off the pill, I was fine, but as soon as I started a pill I would bleed 3 weeks out of 4. It was awful--plus insurance wouldn't pay for other methods besides permanent BC methods. I went through at least three different types of pills with no luck. Then we decided to have our second child...so off the pill and my periods were normal and regular up until I conceived. After my second child was born and I was done breast-feeding, my doctor put me on a pill (loestrin, I think?) and back to the same thing...3 weeks of heavy bleeding out of 4 and it made not only me, but my husband, crabby. I tried another pill, then finally got very firm and specific with the nurses and my doctor...they needed to put me on something completely different than the other formulations I'd been on and/or a higher dosage.
First month on Femcon FE and only 1 day of light spotting; lighter-than-normal period (thank goodness!); but I did have some weird abdominal pain in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen. Thankfully that pain went away after eating, particularly high-fiber meals or large meals. Since I had a stomach bug the week before I started the pills, I didn't think too much of it; figured the stomach virus had moved south and was just irritating my gut. It went away by the time I had my period...but it started again after 5 days on my next pill pack, though the pain is considerably less than last month. However, after seeing someone else's comment regarding estrogen's affect on the gallbladder (and that's about where my pain was), I'm going to at least talk to my doctor on Monday.
I have had no other side effects other than the abdominal pain and very very slight breast tenderness (although after pregnancy and breast-feeding, the breast tenderness is barely noticeable in comparison). So I'd like to stay on this as long as I'm not developing any gallstones, etc.

my daughter has been on Singulair for 4 days now. She is 2 years old and has bad food allergies that cause very bad eczema. She also has been diagnosed with the start of asthma. After going to an allergist, we were told that she should try Singulair and Allegra for a couple of months to treat her seasonal allergies which have been causing coughing at night and skin break-outs, etc. A day or so after she took the medicine ( Singulair chewable tablets- I haven't started the Allegra yet, it seemed like too much for her to be on ) she has been having very loose stools, and quite a few throughout the day. Also she has hive- like bumps on her back. I stopped giving it to her the day before yesterday because the medicine was the only new thing she had been introduced too. The stools seemed to slow down and the hives seemed to be going away, but she was coughing bad last night, so I gave it to her again thinking maybe all she had was a stomach bug. But this morning we made countless potty stops and her back is bumpy again. Does anyone else have this problem?

About eight to ten years ago i had a violent reaction to lactaid. I had taken it numerous time before with no problems and then I woke up one morning - had a bowl of cereal and a lactaid pill - within the hour I was experiencing severe stomach pain along with vomiting and diarrhea. I thought it might have been due to the fact that i had had very little to eat the day before and only a bowl of cereal that morning with the extra strength pill.
the following weekend i was brave enough to try it again with some ice cream at night (this time i had a full stomach from dinner). BIG mistake - this time it was worse - the stomach pain was out of this world (i have a high pain threshold but this had me in the fetal position) and i couldnt leave the toilet and trash can for a few hours. My girlfriend was scared and called one of those nurse hot lines. they told her to coat my stomach with some kaopectate - which seemed to help. I checked the bottle of lactaid - and the expiration date had passed - so i threw it away and swore off of lactaid pills. fortunately they came out with the lactaid milk!
Fast forward to now - never touched the stuff again. well the other day I was out of lactaid milk and my wife (yes the same girlfriend) had picked up some samples of lactaid pills at a trade show - so I guess with the passage of time - I forgot how painful and miserable the other experiences had been - so i took the pill. Nothing happened!
Last night i decide to take another one because i had a craving for ice cream (had been awhile!). I figured it was ok since i had no reaction a week ago. Well sure enough - within the hour I was on the floor in severe stomach pain - followed by vomiting and diarrhea. This time we had kaopectate in the house - so i started taking it - well i just threw it right back up.
This episode lasted about an hour and a half this time. There was a metallic taste in my mouth about the third time i vomited, and the fifth and final time, there was puddle of yellow liquid that came out at the end.

I have been on Loestrin 24 Fe for a couple of weeks now and just had a baby 7 weeks ago. The beginning of this week, I had severe nausea and was unable to eat without becoming nauseous. I believe it is due to the pill and not the food I am eating. Today, I have had breakthrough bleeding that is heavy like a period and severe stomach pains in my lower left abdomen. I am going to call my doctor tomorrow if they don't subside. It is really disturbing that before I had the baby, I had a yeast infection on my skin while on Desogen, so I quit birth control all together. I was hoping that after having the baby, taking a low dose birth control would be okay...but I am a bit worried about the stomach pains. I am not so worried about the break through bleeding because I know it is normal. I have also started to get acne on my upper arms and not my face...totally weird spot for me. I have had dry, itchy skin also... especially on my face. Please respond if you are having similar pains in your stomach.

HOWEVER I HAVE JUST FINISHED A COURSE OF ANTI-BIOTICS AND HAVE STOPPED TAKING OMEPRAZOLE.MY STOMACH IS NOT AS BLOATED AND MY SEVERE FACIAL RASH IS CLEARING UP.I THOUGHT IT MUST HAVE BEEN THE STOMACH BUG THAT WAS CAUSING THESE SYMPTOMS,BUT 7 DAYS AGO I STARTED TAKING OMEPRAZOLE AGAIN AS MY HEARTBURN WAS BACK.SUDDENLY MY FACE ERUPTED AND I WAS BLOATED AGAIN.I STOPPED THEM AGAIN AND ALREADY IM GETTING BETTER. MY HEARTBURN IS STILL TRYING TO GET ME BUT IM TAKING REMEGEL SWEETS THAT ARE SOLD IN MY LOCAL NEWSAGENTS AND SEEM TO BE WORKING FOR ME.I HAVE READ ALL THE SIDE EFFECTS LISTED HERE AND I AM SHOCKED THESE TABLETS ARE STILL ON THE GO. I BELIEVE OUR STOMACH ACID SHOULD NOT BE MESSED WITH AS THIS GETS OUR FOOD OUT OUR SYSTEMS QUICK ENOUGH TO SAVE BAD TOXINS ESPECIALLY RED MEAT POSIONING OUR BLOOD.

I'm a 37 y/f that has had three children. I took bc way back when in my teen years but never needed it again till now. I've been on the pill 7 days. I was wondering how often anyone gets really bad nausea and vomiting with this pill? I've been sick everyday. I was advised to take the pill before I went to bed and to make sure I had some type of heavy protein to stick in my stomach while i was sleeping to calm the nausea... But that has not worked. within 4 hours of waking i'm feeling very nauseated... 90 percent and will get "ill" each night before I go to work. At first I thought it was a stomach bug... doc said I could expect some nausau but didn't want to switch me for the first month. Will this nausau feeling go away? It's very hard for me to do my job and be sick alot. Anyone have suggestions? I have nausau, vomitting, stomach pains and major acidity in my stomach. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

My 3 year old son has had many sinus problems over the past two years. He had his tonsils out last August along with tubes in his ears and removal of his adenoids. He still has constant drainage from his eyes and nose so he has been on Zyrtec for about a year without any side effects. About 3 weeks ago his ENT suggested singulair to help with all the sinus drainage that just won't go away. I just related it to a number of problems he has experienced in the past 3 weeks. My son has delayed speach and does not communicate well. He kept complaining of a tummy ache and we went to our family practitioner and "it's just a stomach bug". I also noticed that he has been waking up during the night and getting into bed with us. I know he has been having more dreams, but He is not able to tell us if they are nightmares. Just tonight when I was putting him in the bathI noticed a rash around the base of his penis and he would scream if we tried to examine him. I am sure that it is Candida Albicans and that is when I googled Singulair and Candidiasis and found all the other side affects that are on this site and others.

This is my first month on Yasmin - I just started taking my inactive pills so expecting my period any day now. Anyway, last week I spent one day vomiting and couldnt even hold my head up (figured it was a 24-hour stomach bug), but now I have unexplainable hives/rash on my arms, back and stomach. I too have low sex-drive and hot flashes now and often feel like there are bricks being piled on top of my chest. Calling my gyno tomorrow to see what she says about it.

I am 27 years old and have just recently completed six months of lupron. I had my last shot in January 2006. The treatment was for endometriosis. I had been in pain for over 10 years when I finally had a laporoscopy to diagnose the endo. I also experienced "mild" side effects from the lupron. But, let me state first that I CANNOT take any sort of hormonal birth control because of the estrogen. Everytime I have tried BC I have had mini strokes. During my pregnancy I also had a mini stroke due to the increase in estrogen.
While on the lupron, I actually felt better than I have felt in a long time. I had the occassional hot flashes, night sweats, and a lot of weight gain. I gained around 25 pounds in four months. I don't recall any other severe side effects. However, I was also on Elavil (anti-depressant) the entire treatment. So I'm not sure if that helped or not. My problem is that now after being off of lupron, I am having horrible feelings of nausea, dizziness, fatigue and horrible headaches. I went to the doctor today because of an excrutiating headache I have had for three days now. It is a weird headache. It only hurts in one spot on the top right side of my head and hurts when I move my head quickly or move my eyes. The doctor did blood work to check my thyroid and has scheduled a CT scan for next week.
Has anyone ever experienced severe side effects after completing lupron? I am wondering if it is the estrogen coming back. Am I better off to be on the lupron? If anyone has any comments or suggestions, please reply.

hI was diagnosed with severe endometriosis at 20 years old had my first laparoscopy at 21 (September 2003) and my second at 23 (January 2005). After my first laparoscopy I was placed on Yasmin by my GYN who said it was a great drug and would help with my pain and clotting. I had just started dating my now husband and didn’t seem to have any side effects of from it. If I recall correctly at one point after my second surgery I stopped taking Yasmin, but after a lot after clotting went right back on it. I will be 27 Saturday so have been on Yasmin for the last 6 years.
-- By skrut919 | Reply | Private Message meMy husband was a paramedic/EMT (so knows a little about this type of thing) before he joined the military 2 years ago and prior to that I lived close enough to home to keep the same doctors (even while at college). Now that we are a military family we have to jump through hoops to see a doctor, but would visit home every few months so I continued to see my same doctors. We recently had to move across the country so I am not able to do that and now have to see the military doctors or wait for approval to go off post. This week for the first time I ran out of my prescription so my husband and I decided I would just get off of it for a little while.
Sorry for the novel, but I am getting somewhere with this I promise! I caught a 24 stomach bug last week and can’t seem to recover from the nausea and dizziness so bad I barely stand up. Saturday would have been my last day on the pack, but since I was sick the last pill I took was Thursday. My husband thinks I am dehydrated, though can’t understand why after plenty of rehydrating including military rehydration packets. Something told me maybe I am having withdrawals from Yasmin (though I have never heard of withdrawals from birth control) and decided to look it up. After reading many forums which ultimately led me to medications.com I am thinking the following symptoms I have been experience the last year that doctors just can’t seem to figure out could be related to the Yasmin. My symptoms are:
• Low blood pressure (daily for the last 4 months and periodically over the last 6 years or so, going as low as 79/47 and consistently in the low 80’s over low 50’s in recent months)
• Excessive weight gain -25 lbs over the last year I started at 130 (still a little high for me, but have always had a slow metabolism) and had been that for at least 8 months prior. In September of 2008 the first 5 lbs came on, it’s starts with a fluctuation between 130-135 for a month or so than one day I am 135 and can’t go below that no matter what I do including exercise and eating right than fluctuation between 135-140 than 140-145, 145-150 and same thing up until now where I am 150-155 and seeming close to hitting the 155 mark. I have never been over 140 max and was only that as a kid after my parents divorce which I lost was never more than 128 tops. Oh this week when I was sick I threw up for a day and half and didn’t eat for 4 days and still gained 4 pounds, how is that?!?!?
• Extreme Fatigue
• Thirst ( which I can’t seem to quench no matter how much I drink)
• Dizziness
• Problems breathing (like I can’t catch my breath)
• Headaches
• Nausea
• Frequent urination
• Heart palpations
• Depression/Moodiness/Crying for no reason
• Breast pain
• Cellulite I never had before
• Ears hurt a lot (but checked out with no problem)
• And the last one I wouldn’t have mentioned but I too have the pain/numbness in my right arm going from my neck down to my leg and lots of pain with it. I was in a car accident a few years ago and have a back and neck injury as well as nerve damage on my right side which I thought was the pain I have been feeling but it has been getting worse and am only mentioning it because it’s someone else’s symptoms as well.
Now until yesterday I thought my low blood pressure and weight gain were signs of an underlying problem and the rest were symptoms related to those things (I am on wait-list to see an Endocrinologist), but now I am thinking it could all be from my birth control. Do you think I am reaching here, or considering what is being learned about the drug is it a possibility? I greatly appreciate anyone’s comments/suggestions. Thanks so much for listening.
S.
