Just took the first dose of the Z-pack (the two pills) on a full stomach and I feel like I'm going to die. I've been through the pain of childbirth and this can almost compare...the stomach cramping is severe and the diarrhea is immediate (you know, the "peeing your poop" kind of thing). When the cramping began, I got cold sweats...I'm still up, unable to sleep, because the stomach pains are SO bad. I know you're supposed to keep taking the pack but I am so ill I can't even imagine doing so right now. I had a similar reaction to Z-pack in 2004 but thought it was because I took a dose on an empty stomach. This confirms that it can happen anytime.

I'm taking the Z-pack to get rid of a sore throat. This is terrible. I'm almost in tears. :( I wish I could just throw up but my throat hurts too bad. I'm allergic to penicillin, so this was what the doctor prescribed. :(

I began taking Levaquin for a kidney infection. After the first pill (500mg) I had insomnia, joint pain and a little under the weather. I thought maybe it was a combination of the pill and still having the kidney infection. I figured the infection wasn't gone because the first med, Sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 I had a reaction too also. That was prescribed for 10day when I only was 4days into it with that pill. So I went from Friday to Monday without any medications. I felt that the kidney infection was still there because I was still hurting, not as bad as when I went to ER but knew it wasn't gone. So Monday night I started taking the Levaquin. Felt bad after the first pill but after taking the 2nd pill I became very weak, had ringing in my ears, eyes started to swell, had sweats nausea, stomach hurt and became very bloated, neck pain so bad I could hardly turn my neck. Pain running down into my shoulder blades, jaw pain, sore throat, nausea, felt like someone was squeezing muscle in left arm and squeezing muscle on left side of neck Started to have some muscle pain in right calf. Call Dr. on call and he said STOP taking the medicine, take some Benadryl and if gets worse go to the ER. Well, I took some Benadryl which made it seem a little better, but this is the day after and my muscles by my shoulder blades are so sore and have a burning sensation. I still feel somewhat weak but not as bad as last night. Seems I tired out real quick. This medicine made me feel like I was on the way out. I was prescribed it for 7 days and only took it for 2. Now I am very hesitant about taking anything as I have had reactions now to 2 different meds. Still don't know if kidney infection is gone or not. Does anyone know of any natural ways to rid yourself of kidney infection? I would appreciate any advice anyone has. All I know this has been 2weeks of @@@@ since I was diagnosed with this kidney infection.

I have read the posts below and thank goodness I found this site! I got an injection on Wednesday, 6/17, in my right knee and for the first 24 hours it hurt like heck - more stiff and painful than prior to the injection. On Friday I woke up shaky and started to feel anxious. My face and chest flushed a bright red which lasted all day. Saturday was worse; shaky, heart racing or palpitating, head/neck pressure with headache, hot flashes, nausea and stomach cramping/pain. I even actually had a panic attack (already a predisposition for me). I became uncontrollably weepy and depressed! Today, Sunday, I STILL have major anxiety and headache/pressure. I'm convinced the injection brought all of this on because before this, all I had was knee pain. So, WHEN will these icky symptoms start to subside? I was told the cortisone was good for 4-6 months. I can't live feeling like this everyday for that long!!! Any suggestions or encouragement?

I will have had the Mirena IUD in for 3 years in July, and I have gained 55 lbs. Hair loss, acne on my back arms face chest, hair growing where I don't want it to grow, stomach cramping, bleeding at irregular times, sometimes for weeks, sometimes for hours, sometimes spotting, sometimes I have a heavy downpour. Joint pain, and headaches I also have, and my breast size has increased another cup. my sex drive has decreased. I need something else, I have tried depo, which I gained 35 lbs on, lost the weight, then went on the patch which I gained 25 lbs on, lost it, and now with the IUD gained 55 lbs!!!! I also gain another ten lbs every time I get my period, from bloating or something, and then the day after my period end i lose 5, and then lose another 3 to 5 the week after that, but never anymore. Any suggestions on a different BC maybe WITHOUT the hormones?????

My Doctor put me on prednisone 10mg for inflammation in my neck. I did 5 first day 5 second day 4 fourth day and when it was time for day 3 he took me off my upper body from waist to neck hurt so bad if anyone would touch me, blotchy to touch no visible rash stomach cramping nausea and I described sitting down as if I had a very bad sunburn, hunched over. I called his office and they said doesn't sound like a sided effect to stop taking well that night Thurs. I was in the ER for a what they are calling an "allergic reaction" gave me benadryl and sent me home next day very groggy, body still hurt not stomach and slept all day. Saturday night back at the ER bad headache and neck and face felt tingly very weird after a million test sent home. Sunday felt the same. Monday went to doctor's office with abdominal cramping nausea and tingling face/headache had an scan of head and more test gave me anxiety pills (I think they think I'm nuts now). Tuesday back at his office feeling worse more test everything so far is normal gave me something for headache (it worked!) and sent me to see a specialist to make sure it was not my appendix which it's not. I'm Still having stomach cramps upper stomach above belly button no more headache occasional tingly of face and no appetite having a stomach ultra sound today. I'm just wondering now if anyone has had the same symptoms? Starting to think maybe I am crazy. I wasn't on it very long so I'm sooo confused. I was also told at my 2nd ER trip that they didn't believe I could have an allergic reaction very impossible.

I was prescribed Biaxin Extended Release, 500 mg/2x daily for 10 days, for a sinus infection. I am on the 5th day, and feel absolutely horrible. The nausea is CONSTANT, I am very tired, headaches, stomach cramping, bad gas, sleeplessness..the list goes on and on. Also, am very emotional. I have a history of depression, but this is a whole new ball game. I cry at almost anything. I called my doctor today to switch to a new antibiotic, and am waiting to hear back.

I was just prescribed this drug for a sinus infection by an allergist. On day 5 of treatment, I woke up in the middle of the night with severe diarrhea and stomach cramping. After 3 days of staying in bed, unable to leave the house, I phoned my regular doctor and he was alarmed that an allergist prescribed such a strong drug for only a sinus infection. He told me that likely the drug killed all bacteria in my stomach (good and bad) and told me to stop taking the drug. Now, 5 days later, I am still unable to go to work, eat food (am surviving on pedialyte) and am on another round of antibiotics to help with my stomach. I just picked up the new antibiotic, and my pharmacist's jaw dropped when I told her that I had taken Avelox for a regular sinus infection. She said it is one of the strongest drugs you can get at a pharmacy. KEEP AWAY FROM THIS DRUG. I wish I'd known all of this before I started taking Avelox .....

I am on Mirena and have been since Nov 2006. At first I didn't have any symptoms but the longer its been in the worse I have gotten. Before I had my son I could drink a couple drinks and not get sick at all, now I have a sip of alcohol and in an hour I have diarrhea and stomach cramping. At first I thought that I mixed it too harsh but it kept happening. I went to my doctor because I was getting married in 2 months and I would like to drink at my own wedding. She said it was because I was under so much stress of the wedding that it was making me stressed out, and the alcohol made it worse. First of all I wasn't under stress from the wedding. So I couldn't drink at my bachelorette party (even though I did and suffered later) and I didn't drink at the wedding. Does anyone else suffer from this? Please let me know!

So before the wedding (maybe 3 weeks) I went in again and wanted it out. I made an appointment and went in. My friend is a surgical tech and said that she has had to assist in removing mirena before. So I asked my doctor how many times she has had to surgically remove mirena. SHe said she has never ever surgically removed it before. I joked around with her and said watch I will be your first and my doc said no no no that wont happen. WELLLL it did!!! My doc couldn't find the strings so I had an ultrasound in her office (done by her). Then she talked to a gyno (my doc is a family practice doc) and he said he wanted a real ultrasound and he would take a look.....got that all done and now I have an appt on Feb 17th for a pre op. I cant wait to take this out! Im sick of not having a sex life with my husband. I don't even want him to touch me at night, my back hurts all the time, I cant drink and im 23 years old, I cant lose wait from the pregnancy, Im very moody all the time, I just feel like I cant go out with my friends and have a couple. Someone said something about a Mirena crash? what is that?? I need to prepare myself for that! If you read this and don't have mirena yet...be very cautious! Im not saying not to get it because everyone is different but just be careful!

I started using the NuvaRing about 14 months ago to help with acne, cramping, and PCOS. I have always enjoyed the convenience of the Ring, as has my husband. No worries about a missed pill and the scheduled insertion and removal have always been key for us. The first few months I didn't notice any changes--good or bad--and I had a noticeable decrease in ovarian cysts right away. But over the last several months, I have noticed several changes in my body that I think may be related to the NuvaRing. I have gained 21 pounds since January.

I eat very healthy, and am mild active. However, nothing changed in January to cause such consistent weight gain. I get terrible and painful acne while I have the ring in, but it disappears within days once I remove the ring. While my face clearing up is a relief, I spend days feeling terrible and VERY moody. My poor husband doesn't know how to handle me those days. So now, in place of mood swings from PMS, I get them even worse during my period while the ring is out. I also have a very decreased sex drive, and experience pain from intercourse during and after. I have abdominal cramps most days that are similar to menstrual cramps, and extend into my digestive system, causing nausea and stomach cramping.

I just started Ocella (generic form of Yaz) two days ago, in hopes of decreasing these symptoms. I did warn my husband that he may be doing a lot more condom shopping in the coming weeks if I don't notice improvement. He says he actually welcomes using a condom if it eliminates all of the moodiness and crying over my weight and acne, even if it isn't as pregnancy-proof as BC.

Best of luck to all of you ladies!

very tired all of the time, hair loss, weight gain, upper stomach cramping just under middle of breasts - keeps me awake. Would like to know if the stomach cramping is caused by mirena. Have now had the mirena for 3 years. Upper stomach cramping under ribs worse over last 6 months, like gall bladder pain? Loss of sex drive. Positive is that it is better than pill for feeling ok mentally for me.

My daughter has been experiencing extreme stomach cramping since the beginning of September. She had her last Gardasil injection (3rd) along with a tetanus booster late July. She has gone through an upper GI ultrasound, colonoscopy, endoscopy, capsule endoscopy, etc. Her gastroentologist thinks she has a pulled muscle. She has lost over 10 lbs. (didn't have 10 extra to lose). After reading these entries, I believe the common denominator here is the Gardasil.

If that is the case, we need to get the word out.

I get some stomach cramping from the Z-Pak, but the most disturbing side effect would be the chest pain. I have swollen glands right now and I had vertigo and the doctor told me it was probably a bacterial infection because the gland under my chin is the one that is swollen. Every time I take this medication the side effects are different. I also had the agitation the last time I took Z-Pak. Sometimes I have had the lose bowels, especially after taking the two pills together the first day. Well, I guess it is better than having an infection so I will continue to take it. There are other medications that are worse for me. At least I am not getting a rash and I cannot take penicillin.

This was the only thing that stopped pneumonia for me when I was six and now I'm on it again for bronchitis or something. I've had severe stomach cramping. My heart has been racing since I started taking it. I'm on my fourth of five days. I'm wondering if my heart is unrelated, meaning I should go see what I can do about that, or if it makes other people all jittery/anxious with a really high pulse.

Wow is this some interesting reading!

I got my Mirena put in place in Oct, 2007 - 2 months after the birth of my 3rd child. I was breastfeeding and had not yet had a period so I never had the excessive bleeding that most experience and up to very recently I thought it was great.

I've had so many of the symptoms people are describing on here but did not attribute to the Mirena. My husband is the one who has told me repeatedly over the last few months that I need to go see my doctor because he feels like it is related "to that thing!" His position is from one of seeing my moods, irritability, and anger. Of course my mood and irritability has resulted in me basically telling him to shut up and that he doesn't know what he's talking about!!! Well, I'm eating crow now!

My symptoms are extreme back pain - and like a few others who have mentioned they thought it was their mattress - that is me! I was out shopping for new mattresses and complaining about it to everyone who would listen! I've been having lots of stomach cramping and pain. I also have the cloudy thinking or foggy brain. But I think the worst is the moods and irritability. I was ready to find a therapist and get some anti depressants or something b/c it just is continuing to get worse and then I found this site. I think what I need is to get this thing out!!!

I did call my doctor office and talked to a nurse who told me I should have had symptoms before now if I was going to and that the hormone stays in one spot and doesn't go systemic. Whatever. Not based on the research I've found!

y husband has been telling me that I need to go see my doctor

For Medications.com October 18th
Earlier this past summer I took this drug for ninety two days after I was prescribed this medication when I visited the doctor for a bladder infection and I was told I also had high blood pressure. No tests were done except for a urine test at that time and no follow up tests were done later. This drug not only gave me a slew of other side effects but pushed my simple bladder infection to where I no longer urinated in a normal manner regardless of the amount of fluid I added. Only after discontinuing this drug did normal urination return after a few days.
Allergic reactions were as follows. Severe debilitating stomach cramping resulting in swelling of the abdomen, and all digestive organs. Angioedema. (no pre history of this) Urine flow continued to lessen even with increased fluid intake, resulting in bladder pain and a sensation of bladder being pushed from the body. Lack of energy, flu like symptoms, insomnia, leg cramps, many bouts of rapid heart beat, some lasting for awhile, even after stopping the drug. Lack of appetite and a change in taste buds. I had several bouts of angioedema but thought it was 'something I ate, stress etc', as within a month of my diagnosis, my daughter had an extreme reaction to Ciprofloxin (see floxintoxin under that medication) and anything that was going on with me was put aside. She was debilitated by her drug reaction and was unable to walk etc, so I thought I wasn't handling stress too well as I was getting older. Each bout increased in severity leaving me lying debilitated on the couch for four days, eventually for a full week until luckily by that time my daughter was able to take care of herself and began thoroughly investigating this drug only to discover that Lisinopril was the true cause. The warnings with this drug are not very explanatory and leave so much out that should be for patients to read and digest to make their own health decisions and it takes a lot to dig deeper on the Internet to find the true adverse reactions.
We thought by stopping the drug I would get back to normal quickly and I did with the help of a herb called marshmallow which reduced the swelling after a couple of days. However after I thought I was cured I stopped marshmallow and within a couple of days had another angiodema reaction and I thought it was because there must be traces of this drug left in my system. I then took marshmallow for over two weeks and feeling fine I stopped again. Then another episode hit me with not only the stomach problems but a severe bout of coughing that lasted a couple of hours and trickled into a few days. It was then I began digging on the Internet to find the words I wanted to hear, that this drug caused long term problems. I found it by adding UK after other words and found this and much more.
ACE-INHIBITORS
A particular group of heart pills called ACE-inhibitors (the chemical names end in -pril, e.g. enalapril, lisinopril, ramipril) can occasionally cause urticaria, although they more commonly cause angioedema; about one person in 100 who takes an ACE inhibitor is likely to get this problem.
The reaction is not caused by true allergy, allergy skin and blood tests do not show it, so why does it happen?  Reactions are thought to occur because an unwanted pharmacological effect of the drug causes the release of compounds similar to those released in an allergic reaction.  The only way of showing that a regular medication is the true cause is by stopping or changing the treatment.
To complicate matters, the angioedema attacks may not start until the individual has been taking the ACE inhibitor for months or even years making it difficult to spot the relationship. Also, attacks may continue for several weeks after the drug has been stopped.
I could not find anyone doing following to patients with adverse reactions and I think that is a very bad problem. We are on our own. I do hope this helps others and if you want copies of all my research let me know.
Now I am hoping there won't be any more bouts but I'm still taking marshmallow and when I think I have the courage I will wean myself off it slowly and watch for signs. Believe me angiodema isn't fun and you can't see it on the outside of the body which makes it difficult to understand.

I've only been on it for just over a week, taking 25mg daily x 7 days and now !00mg daily. I am experiencing mild stomach cramping but nothing else. Have not seen any improvements yet either. I am menopausal, so I can't gage my periods. My facial acne developed when I became pre-menopausal at around age 45. I am now 52. I sometimes get very slight headaches if I don't take the medication on a full stomach.

My mother was given this drug, Lisinopril, because the doctor decided she had high blood pressure after she went in for a bladder infection (she's had these all her life, every now & then). The doctor also prescribed Nitrofur (please avoid THAT one like the plague - she was on the couch for a week in stomach agony). We didn't put 2 and 2 together on what was really going on until yesterday. She was on Lisinpril for 3 months and every 2-3 weeks had an episode of extreme stomach spasms, bloating and fatigue. These episodes have lasted 3-5 days each, keeping her on the couch in agony. I researched the internet and found out that Lisinopril is made from SNAKE VENOM, can you believe? Turns out lots of people have reactions from this, including coughing. There was one woman who had the exact same things as my mom and wouldn't you know it, stopped using Lisinopril and the episodes went away. Turns out this is an allergic reaction, something they say is rare, BUT I think it depends how long you take it and how sensitive you are. So my mom immediately stopped taking it. What's happening inside is something they call gastrointestinal angioedema (in layman's terms, internal hives). If you experience coughing, the hives are in your throat. If you experience the stomach pains, the hives are all in your intestinal tract and very possible more areas internally. So then I looked up and found an excerpt from "One Earth Herbal Sourcebook" on Google and found the author had experienced something similar, using ayervedic (indian) herbs to fix the problem. I couldn't find where to buy ayervedic herbs, calling Whole Foods Market with no success. Well, all over the world there are healing herbs that do similar things. So I did find 2 that would work. Marshmallow (the herb, not the campfire kind) will help relieve swelling internally. There is another herb called Goldenseal (don't use it if you have very high blood pressure as it can cause a spike) that has antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Anyway, now you know what is going on inside - hives you can't see from snake venom. Take that to the doctors and see what they say. Maybe your just better off like we are to research yourself and find a natural answer from nature. I hope this can help others avoid the hell we've been through.

I saw an elderly ENT who prescribed Biaxin XL 1000mg/once per day for a severe sinus infection of the ethmoid, maxillay and frontal sinuses. I was not getting any better, in fact I was getting worse. I decided to go for a second opinion and learned that Biaxin is not as wide spectrum of an antibiotic as Augmentin is for sinus infections. The key strains of bacteria are not being obliterated from the Biaxin. MDs who prescribe Biaxin are not staying on top of current literature as Biaxin was commonly prescribed in the 1980s and 1990s.

My incredible side effects to Biaxin XL (including not wiping out the bacteria) include: lingering bad bitter taste, night sweats, insomnia, extreme stomach cramping, constant stomach churning (which kept me up at night), terrible diarrhea, nausea. The only plus side is that was more mentally alert.

If your doctor prescribes Biaxin for sinusitis, leave that doctor immediately and seek help from another practitioner who is more current on medications of choice for treatment.

i have been on Yaz for almost two months and i am stopping this pill after i finish this pack. at first i thought it was great, but did not consider that the reason i got a severe bacterial pneumonia, as that it might have to do with this pill. when i read from the makers of Yaz itself that a number of trial patients came down with a URI and that it may or may not be the result of the pill, it started adding up.

so i got through that and now i am still dealing with nausea that lasts all day some days. i am also having some stomach cramping and my stools have recently been very dark, which is unusual.

i don't feel that it is helping my PMS. My first period was lighter, but the kind of cramping it caused was different and still very painful for me.

i just don't get a good feeling about this one and don't like the idea that it affects your kidneys processing of potassium to the point where you have to get your blood checked for elevated levels.

also, i had a certain amount of cellulite that seemed to appear within a short amount of time. i don't like this at all. i didn't have that before. i had a little, but now it is like doubled.

i am also having dizzy spells and blurred vision and since i have fibro, i have noticed that i am in more pain lately.

so goodbye to Yaz. no more BC for me. this just motivated me to try and balance my hormones doing everything i can naturally.

I've been taking YAZ for about 3 months now and at first had stomach cramping but only for about 1 week. Otherwise I have had minimal side effects I am pretty much thrilled with this pill. The only thing that I am concerned about is, I've never really had any acne issues but since this pill I have had more acne than I even have before. Has anyone else had this issue? It's not necessarily on my face, more so my back and chest and that is whats really troubling to me! If anyone has found this as well let me know or if anyone has found out anything that works to help with this!!!

My ten-year old son began taking Singulair two years ago to control infrequent, light to moderate asthma. I would say it is in the past year that noticeable, and extreme changes occurred in his health and personality. The list of negative changes is a long one. His physical symptoms have included:
frequent, unexplainable bouts of stomach cramping and diarrhea
Painful light sensitivity, listlessness, tiredness, inability to fall asleep, inability to wake up.

The mental/mood changes have been the most devastating. They include:

Withdrawal from friends and family.
Isolating behavior.
Unprovoked anger.
Dislike of being touched
Spaceyness/disorganization/forgetfulness
Depression
Lack of interest in school
Inability to wake in the morning (on weekends sleeping till one pm.)
Loss of interest in hobbies
Aggression
Mood swings (from placid to intense rage)
Talk of wanting to be abandoned
Loss of self-esteem
No joy ever

My son was once considered one of the smartest boys at school. He is a member of the Johns Hopkins Talented Youth program. He performed several levels above his grades in math. Last year all this extraordinary promise began to slip away. This is documented at his school. Recently a math test was given and he scored in the lower third. This may sound like no big deal, “so what if a kid performs below expectations,” but this was my child’s identity slipping away. What once came to him so easily was mysteriously vanishing. It felt like his brain had stopped developing. He no longer wanted to read, (once a favorite activity.) He began to lose interest in music, (once a passionate pursuit). I could go on and on about how his personality changed. About how his friends fell away. He once was a popular, fun-loving kid. What is the most upsetting and inexplicable was his constant sadness and dissatisfaction with life. He frequently said, “I have nothing good in my life.” And, “Why don’t you drop me off somewhere so I can live by myself on the street.” I couldn’t make any sense of comments like these. We had a happy family. Our house used to be full of laughter and fun activities. We have another son, two years younger, who would cry at the changes he was seeing in his brother who no longer wanted to go outside to play, or was even willing to talk to him. They were once best friends. If my younger son tried to make a joke he would be attacked physically. I could find no explanation and so told myself it must be adolescence come early. Friends of mine asked me if my son was sick and they told me they privately worried about his obvious depression. Nothing made sense.

The most devastating episode that happened was finding under his bed some writings where he talked about how the world was a miserable place with no chance of getting better. The only solution would be for him to die and fly away. This is coming from my sweet ten year old son, who once had such a love of life and learning. How could a boy this young be thinking of suicide? It seemed incomprehensible to me. It broke my heart. The next day (12 days ago) I saw on the evening news the report about Singulair being linked to suicidal thoughts. I WAS STUNNED. It all began to make sense. I pulled him off the drug that night and the change was immediate. For the first time in years he fell asleep before midnight. I have heard his beautiful laugh for the first time in months. He wants to go outside and throw the football with his brother. There have been many breakthroughs since he stopped the drug a week ago. I just hope they continue and my once learning-hungry, loving little boy returns to me.
