Hi ladies,

I'm a 20 year old girl and I've been on Yasmin for just over a year now and it has hands down been the WORST YEAR OF MY LIFE. I started taking it for extreme menstrual cramps that would leave me screaming on the kitchen floor, curled up in a ball begging for the pain to stop. Yasmin fixed that, trust me it was like a miracle, and my acne on my face and back cleared up, another miracle.

Now the bad stuff. The first month was okay, because sometimes it takes time for the hormones to take affect. But I became severely depressed thereafter. It just started happening, crying all the time, hopeless, binge eating, gaining a lot of weight. And on top of that the GI problems, my stomach literally ballooned out to the size of a watermelon, and everything I ate irritated me. But a few months ago I became bulimic in a drastic attempt to get control back of my life, I hadn't even thought of the pill as the culprit up unil this point. Keep in mind that I'm young, fit, have a great family, in school, there's no reason for my to be falling so low.
I started seeing a therapist, then a psychiatrist. I was this close to being put on antidepressants. And then something happened, my years worth prescription of Yasmin ran out so my OBGYN told the pharmacy to refill my prescription but with the generic brand, Ocella, that they had available which would only cost me 10 dollars a month with health insurance. Within four days I felt like my old self. Happy. I couldn't believe it. I went to a physician for tests and everything seemed normal, but after explaining to her my severe stomach problems she told me that it seemed like the pill induced me to become lactose intolerant. Wonderful!
So I started the second pack of Ocella a week ago and it all started happening again. The first month was fine again, but my body had caught up by now and even though I've cut dairy out, my stomach has ballooned up again and I have heartburn and indigestion no matter what I eat. Yesterday I felt insanely depressed, I binged, became insanely nauseous and threw up. I didn't leave the couch once. Now I know that it may sound like I need to reevaluate my problems, but I promise you, THIS IS NOT ME. I've realized that Ocella is exactly what it is, the generic version, and hence chemically the same as Yasmin, so the effects will mirror Yasmin's. MY OBGYN told me to finish the pack, and then I can come off them, and I cannot begin to explain how excited I am. I'm done with pills, and I'll find another way to deal with the pain.

Please, if you're taking birth control for something like acne, reconsider, it's not worth it. We are the experimental age. We can't ask our grandmothers what the long terms affects are. But if you must be on it and are feeling badly in any way, switch! You might find something better for you.

I've been using the Nuvaring off and on for almost six years. I started using it after I had my son in 2002, and I never had any problems with it. I used it for a couple years, had to stop b/c of my insurance. I went back to it after the birth of my daughter, in early 2006. I started having a lot of problems around December, 2007, but I didn't even think that it could be because of the nuvaring, since I had been on it for so long already. I was having stomach problems, awful headaches, horrible anxiety, depression, mood swings, had no energy at all, horrible burning pain after sex. I started having spotting and periods that lasted for up to a month, and would pass huge blood clots. I talked to my obgyn in February and she told me to just switch my rings right away instead of keeping it out for a week for my period. That stopped the bleeding for about two months, then my period came back with a vengeance. I bled for over a month, stopped for a week, bled for a few more weeks. It was ridiculous. I've finally given up on the ring after yet another month-long period. I took it out a week ago and I have finally stopped bleeding. I've noticed a difference with other symptoms as well and I really hope my body gets back to normal soon. I found this site last week when I was trying to decide if I should stop using the ring or not and I couldn't believe how many women had the same symptoms that I've been having. I never realized that all of the problems that I've had were all due to my birth control. Now I'm stumped as to what birth control to try next. I've been reading up on them and they all seem to have horrible side effects like the ring. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

i'm a 19 year old college student, and i'm on my last 3 days of this medication, and while i had bad side effects at first, i waited them out, and now they're mostly gone. i had stomach cramps, that gassy feeling, i was dizzy and felt faint...i felt like i was in a cloud and couldn't function. however, it was better than the misery i was experiencing from the sinus infection, where i was only able to sleep. i can return to work, and some side effects still linger , but its def. done its job as an antibiotic. i did develop a yeast infection from the antibiotic i took before omnicef, which is why i didn't want to change medicines again. i was on another antibiotic, which made me deathly sick. omnicef is supposed to have less severe side effects than other bacterial infection antibiotics out there. i did take a probiotic with the omnicef, i recommend taking one with any antibiotic. it levels out your bacteria levels, which may stop stomach problems altogether.

I have been on anti-depressants for about 10 years now. I've tried Wellbutrin, Lexapro, Prozac, and Effexor (just to name a few). I've been on Effexor (this is my 2nd time) for about 4 years now. I finally decided to get off the effexor and I desperately want to share what's been happening ever since. I slowly weened off of it, starting at my regular 175mg a day for 2 1/2 weeks, then down to 125mg, 75mg, and then 37.5. My doctor suggested I change doses every week, however I went 2 1/2 weeks because of the AWFUL side effects.

I have had the typical head "buzzing" is what I call it and my nerves are a wreck 24/7 but the worse problem I'm having and the one I haven't seen anyone write about yet is my severe stomach problems. I have had diarrhea everyday, all day, since I went off Effexor. It's been over 2 weeks since I've taken my last pill and it's not getting any better. My dr. thinks it could be IBS or bad eating habits, but I've tried changing my diet, etc. and nothing is giving me any relief. It's come to the point where I can't tell if my nerves are what is upsetting my stomach or if my upset stomach is what is setting off my nerves. Anyone else with these issues??

And in case anyone reads this before starting Effexor, please please don't use this medication. Try any and/or all other anti-depressants before using Effexor. It may work for your depression, but the side effects highly out weigh the benefits. I'm finding that out the hard way now. I would have never taken this drug if I knew what I would be in for 4 yrs down the road. And I can't help but be upset with our healthcare system when doctor's would actually prescribe this to their patients.

I'm having the same issues with my doctor not believing me that its the Gardasil. I am a very healthy person, but a few days after receiving the shot I started with these symptoms:
- severe nausea
- severe dizziness
- hot and cold flashes
- stomach problems
- feel faint & weak

I went to my doctor and she said I was having panic attacks! Why would I still feel sick for days at a time if it was panic attacks. I'm still feeling sick now and its been just over two weeks since I got the 1st shot. Does anyone know how long it stays in the body?

I have been on this med (25 mg) for eight days to treat SSRI resistant depression. Three days ago I developed flu like symptoms, with fever and vomiting. While I have hypertension I have also seen an increase in my BP even though I am taking my BP medications. However the most difficult to deal with side effect is extreme tooth pain that started when the flu symptoms did. It is so painful I have to eat soft foods. I have had no dental problems in over 25 years. Has anyone else had this effect?

I took Chantix 2 separate times. The first time I took it and had to stop because my insurance wouldn't cover it and I couldn't afford it. I cut down a huge amount and OMG the dreams I had were amazing. Nothing like the dreams my aunt had of animals ripping her apart and her family walking away. Mine were pastel and spiritual, totally real. Looked forward to going to sleep. The second time I had horrible stomach problems accompanied by lots of gas...not the smelly kind just air. Loose stools. Now I have been off the drug for almost a year. Unfortunately the dreams ceased.. I still have loose stools and the gas just finally stopped. thank god. started to think that there was a real problem. I have no health insurance so really couldn't go get it checked. I eat well so it wasn't stuff like that. But....chantix the first time worked well...no side effects. For me the second time wrecked me. I would take it again just for the dreams! Curious to know if the dream factor plays a part of the current state of mind of the person before it is taken. Meaning if you are stressed and unhappy does it enhance it in the dreams...would love to hear the type of dreams people are having...mine were very spiritual and enlightening. But I am a new age type person anyway....just curious...email me would love to know.

I am a 45 yr old female and I have been on Vytorin for about 2 yrs or so for my cholesterol problems. Was on Lipitor before that and was getting leg pain so I stopped taking it. When blood work time came around it was still up so my doc put me on Vytorin. I have noticed that I feel like I'm dying. I have severe neck, back and arm pain, cold and hot attacks, can't sleep, chest pain, blurred vision, sudden stomach cramps, nausea, throat and ear aches, and bad stomach problems. I have had heart cath, ekgs, endoscopy, blood work and everything keeps coming back normal. Matter of fact, I went to the heart doc today and he put me on a 24 hour monitor and for low heart rate that has gradually gotten worse over the past few months. He even mentioned a pace maker. I don't even want to start about the depression and anxiety attacks that I have. They are AWFUL. But the more blogs that I have read, I think I know where the problem may lye. The Vytorin, so as of tonight I will NOT take another one..I just hope that there is no permanent damage done as far as my liver. I hope you all the best and I will let you know how I start to feel in the next few days...

I lost the better part of four years of my life to Yasmin. I started on it when I was 19. I almost immediately developed panic attacks and anxiety. Over time, I experienced memory loss, "brain fog," stomach problems, and a lot of fatigue. I had no idea that the Yasmin was doing this, as my doctors told me that I was developing an anxiety disorder. I did stop using Yasmin for about 9 months because I ran out; within 4 months of being pill-free, my energy was back, my thoughts were clear, and I was just... myself. Then I went back on it, not realizing that the pill was poisoning me, and needed to start taking anti-depressants a few months afterwards because of the increased anxiety. My body also does not absorb B12 anymore, and my blood pressure fluctuates wildly. In addition, I get random crying/emotional outbursts for no reason.

I am not trying birth control ever, ever again.

Well it's me again! I posted about having mine removed this morning and it's out of me for good! My Dr. is young and very nice, he understood my concern, but said he he had not heard of these symptoms before and thinks I should go to my family doctor and get some tests done. I have not had a fever that I'm aware of and no other stomach problems other than cramping. He thought I may have a virus...anyway, I still have a headache and feel tired, I don't feel like my joints hurt as much, but that came and went. We will see! It was painless, didn't feel a pinch, kind of makes me wonder if he even took it out??? See I'm still paranoid!!!

Hi, I just got the Mirena back in April and I have had nothing but problems from the get go. First they had trouble inserting the Mirena so instead of 5 minutes it took more like 20 minutes....by the time they got finished I started sweating really bad. I went to stand up and almost passed out. They laid me on a bed, put an ice pack behind my neck and gave me water. They checked my blood pressure and it was VERY low. 15 minutes later my blood pressure still wasn't coming back up so I was not allowed to leave. They started telling me that some people's bodies go into a form of shock and that was probably what happened and they were worried about my blood pressure not coming back up and possibly having to take me over to the emergency in order to get my blood pressure back up. Well about ten minutes later they finally get my blood pressure back up to normal so they finally let me leave their office. I get out to my vehicle and all of a sudden I feel like I am fixing to pass out again. I laid down and called a friend to come and pick me up. I kept an ice pack on the back of my neck for another 30 minutes while resting before I finally felt better again. A couple hours later came the pain. Very bad pain that lasted for the next two weeks and I am usually a person that can take pain. Finally the pain eased up after that and now I only get pain once in a while but here I am 3 months later and I am still bleeding. I feel tired all the time, I've had a lot of migraines, it is painful during sex sometimes, my sex drive has almost totally vanished and my energy level is almost at 0. I have also been experiencing stomach problems and a bloated feeling. I am EXTREMELY tired all the time. I never feel like I get a good nights sleep. I have also been experiencing hair loss but I didn't know if that was from the Mirena or not until I started reading posts on here. Now my bleeding is slowly getting worse the past few weeks. Not only am I bleeding still but now it is coming out in little clots too. Now I am getting worried so I have made an appointment to go back in. I came on here hoping I can find someone that has had the same problem so I wouldn't have to worry until the appointment. Its really disgusting and I am so sick of having this mirena in already.

Good luck to those of you that haven't already experienced these same side effects already......

Wow! I've done a lot of reading post Mirena and wish I had spent the time before instead of just relying on the pamphlet from the Dr's office.

I made it a whole 3 days!

Insertion was fine but it should have raised a flag when the Dr said "oops, it slipped out, hang on one more minute". I felt fine all that day (Wednesday). By Thursday cramping was pretty intense, vomitting, diarrhea, low grade fever, lower back pain, headache, rapid heartbeat. Called Dr "Oops" & told me I had a stomach bug, symptoms not from Mirena. Friday sucked, stomach problems went away but everything else just got worse.

By Saturday I was immobile on the couch, no other way to describe it than to say it just friggen hurt! Dr "Oops" closed on the weekend so I went to the hospital. ER doc couldn't find the threads to take it out and didn't have the "magic tool" required to fish them out. His solution was take antibiotics for possible infection and a narcotic pain reliever (3 mo old little boy at home, narcotics not an option) and have it removed on Monday.

Being stubborn, I insisted on seeing the on-call OBGYN who was upstairs waiting to deliver a baby. He was kind enough to come down and fish the strings out without this "magic tool". The relief was immediate, especially given that the Mirena had turned 90 degrees inside me. I'm lucky it did no damage. This Dr explained that the symptoms should not have been that bad had it been in correctly.

I've been bleeding heavy with clotting since Sunday, cramping is nothing compared to what it was. Think I have a yeast infection brewing from antibiotics, just to add insult to injury. I am just glad to have it out!

I would have to rate Mirena up there in the top 5 most unpleasant experiences of my life. Please do your homework and weigh your options before trying Mirena. The pamphlet from the doctor's office doesn't tell the half of it. And if you do decide to have it, consider having it done on a Monday to give yourself a few days to see how you like it before the weekend arrives. I'm sure having it come out of place is rare, but I'm proof it can happen. Good Luck to all :)

I was given omnicef for a sinus infection, though I was told to take it twice a day , ive only been taking it once a day , due to an unnormal schedule... It has caused me to be so uncomfortable..I cant stand it. I have unbelievable abdominal pain, cramps ... but no diarrhea... Im constipated , one bowel movement a day ... and I also have the rust/ red stools. which is a listed side effect . Ironically, Before being diagnosed with all of this, I was in the doctors office a few weeks earlier complaining of stomach problems. . thinking I may have an ulcer, and my doctor told me It was only stress... yet he never tested me for an ulcer, no x-ray , nor an endoscopy. Now Im on some medicine that apparently may mess me up even more. WOW.

Started Simvastatin 20mg Jan. 08, just quit June 16th. I 've had all the problems the rest of you have had, arm, chest pain, thought I was having a heart attack for about a month, eye problems,no sex drive, memory loss, weird thoughts, stomach problems, so tired I could barely move, just could'nt wake up. Since I've been off this stuff I'm up one day and down another. I can see some progress, but it seems slow. Does anyone know how long it takes to get this stuff out of your system? Talked to a friend of mine who was on a statin, he quit , and told me it took him 6 months before he felt right. It does'nt seem to go away over night. Anyone else feel this way?

Hello: I am so sorry that all of us are suffering since taking this pill. My experience with Yasmin was brutal and 3 years later I know am told that I have developed b12 deficiency or a very serious, but treatable condition called pernicious anemia. I never had it before then pill. I took Yasmin for only 5 months and felt sick the whole time. Headaches, strange moods, even a popping sound in my head some times, bizarre symptoms. I called my OBGYN and told he I was stopping. She said the pill did not cause this, but if I felt it was related to stop. AND IT WAS! She now admits to feeling bad for this. She did not mean it. Doctors only know what they read from the literature of a drug. I stopped taking it and was in the hospital within three days. I was in shock. Night sweats, tingling skin, no energy, stomach problems of every kind. Severe pain in my left ovary, suicidal depression and on and on. The worst part is that I began to get sicker and sicker. 3 years later of still being sick. The only thing that has helped my system is acupuncture and a serious diet change to aid my system, I find out that I have a serious b12 deficiency, which I never had. They call it an autoimmune disease which impedes you from processing b12 and all this starts in the tummy! I lost a baby during this time while pregnant, now we know it was this! The Yasmin pill has been pulled off the social medicine of some European countries due to such severe side effects. Their is a girl on this blog getting names together to start a class action suit. I am in. No one can get me my three years of suffering back, or my lost baby or my lost work. I am a professional flamenco dancer and let me tell you it is not easy to perform with a serious b12 deficiency which affects nerve endings, heart tissue and neurology! And the cure for this is b12 injections for life! If you want me to forward your name to the girl with the attorney you can write me at:****** Well I am going to keep trying to be well. I am young and have a whole life ahead of me.

I started taking Doxy 100 mg July 2007 for the first time. At first I didn't link my side effects to the pills but after a break from taking it and started up again I finally out two and two together. First, it upset my stomach BIG time immediately after starting on it. I felt bloated and everything I ate upset my stomach--as the result of this I lost about eight pounds from just not eating anymore. I even went to see a GI doctor about my stomach problems! Who recommended I eat more fiber and get more exercise (I told her about all the meds I was on)! I also got sudden and very severe headaches, but the worst side effect of all is the extreme mood swings I had. I think I was going crazy and this almost ended my marriage...all of a sudden I developed low self esteem, constantly thinking I was worthless, fighting with my husband over the stupidest things and even contemplating suicide during the worst spells. I couldn't figure out why the sudden change- at first I thought it was the tough Chicago winter, since I am originally from a much warmer climate, because by this time I had been on doxy for about five months.
I was prescribed the medication to help clear up moderate acne on my back and my dermatologist gave me the prescription for a year, but never said come see me in a month, two months, etc to see how you;re doing. I am so glad that I stopped taking it in February 2008 --- my moods suddenly got better, I was myself again, I started eating again, my GI problems disappeared...and then...in April I started taking it again because with summer coming up again I wanted my acne to clear up- BIG MISTAKE! Within days of starting again my stomach started being upset all the time regardless of what I ate. After the first month I was feeling depressed again, hating myself and not knowing why--this is when i finally figured it out...and decided to stop...I'd rather have pimples on my back than feel the way this medication make me feel, which is pretty much miserable!

All of what you have said and then some. I have had depression that's unexplainable, very dry, peeling skin on my T-zone, eye twitching, headache, stomach problems, bloating, loss of sex drive (that's one form of birth control,) breast tenderness that is more severe and longer lasting than before and irritability. I have never felt this out of sorts before and my decisions and reactions to normal situations have been erratic and unreliable. I tried to rationalize my behavior and acknowledge that I would experience changes with the intake of hormones, but this pill makes everyday feel like a train wreck.

Two days ago I took out my third molars (wisdom teeth), afterwards I took a prescription strength 600mg Ibuprofen with no side effects. I took another pill 6 hours later, and I have been having the worst upper stomach pain, much worse than the tooth ache ever was since then. I have been waking up with agonizing pain every hour for the past two nights, and I can't even take Tylenol for my tooth pain now since my stomach is so messed up (I tried and it cause horrible stomach pain).

So on top of having to treat the stomach problem, I can't take any pain medication for my teeth and I'm just miserable. I'm 25 years old and have never had stomach problems before, the first night I thought I was poisoned or something and I was dieing. I think the small label on the bottle that says "if it causes upset stomach, take it with crackers or bread" needs to be replaced with "it doesn't matter what you take it with, it can cause much more pain that you have ever imagined." Because it actually doesn't matter if you take it with bread, or inject it to yourself, the function of ruining the stomach lining is because of it's anti-inflammatory chemicals, not direct contact with stomach.

I read about it now, and apparently the deaths from Ibuprofen and Aspirin (anti-inflammatory pain medications) caused by gastrointestinal problems is about as many as deaths by HIV-Aids in USA*. I don't see any Ibuprofen awareness rallies though. I wish I had time to sue someone because I really really want to.

Like many others who have posted here, many symptoms have been present, but I failed to recognize that NuvaRing may be the cause. After another restless night, lying awake at 3 a.m. and considering seeking help for my increasingly unpredictable mood swings and depression, I had an epiphany, which led me here.
I’ve long suffered headaches, so I won’t pin that on NuvaRing, but I used to be one who rarely cried. I’ve felt absolutely crazy lately, both crying and being openly hostile to my husband. It’s a relief to think there may be a cause I can do something about. Now I can’t decide if I should remove it now and risk having my period while on vacation next week or leave it in and be miserable.
I’d finally been able to lose a few pounds, but only two months after beginning NuvaRing, it was all back, plus a few more. I hadn’t thought to connect it to the new birth control, as I’ve been on various pills since 1999.
Stomach problems are another issue I was already dealing with, but the possibility that they've been compounded by this birth control is frustrating.
Another symptom that I’m not sure is related: raised bumps on my upper arms and thighs, dry and slightly itchy. Has anyone else experienced skin-related symptoms with NR?
Many thanks to all who have shared their experiences.

Anybody concerned about their pill symptoms, look up CANDIDA. It is related to so many symptoms and my latest thoughts are, The pill causes candida and candida causes the symptoms. This means your body may not go back in check after stopping the pill.

I have had
Mood "problems" we'll call them,
headaches mostly as a soreness in my temples,
Dizziness,
Sore feet,
Random cramps in legs,
Flu like aches and pains,
Chemical sensitivity,
Fatigue,
Stomach problems
Decreasing ability to concentrate,
Severe and sudden beer intolerance, meaning taking only 2 beers to get a wicked hangover,
Sudden noise and light sensitivity,

To keep it kinda short here, I just kept telling my doctors, I feel like I'm getting old. I'm 27! I think this pill gave me a great breeding ground for candida and candida did the rest. Look it up!

I am a 50 year old women. I had bronchitis that turned into severe asthma.
Could not stop coughing. I have been on Singulair for over a year. Have had weight gain, Hand numbness,Stomach problems. Even had an colonoscopy but turned up nothing. Now I understand after reading all these posts. The weight gain alone was driving me crazy. Limiting myself to 1200-1400 calories, eating only lean meats and vegetables.Exercising and loosing MINIMAL weight over a 4 month period. I felt like I was doing something wrong. Ive thrown my Singulair away after reading your posts. Will figure out something else if my allergies and or asthma flairs. Just not worth it. Will repost after Ive been off a while.

I have been on lisinopril for two years, in that time I became unable to do anything. I would eat, but it would not give me energy, so I would eat more. I gained over 100 lbs from this. Nothing tasted, for all I knew I could of been eating rubber. My head hurt in one spot on my head. I could not remember anything, even how to cook anything, I have cooked all my life. If you can not taste then it is hard to cook. I was told in Aug of last year that I was hypothyroid. Come to find out the body can not make your thyroid work well while taking Lisinopril. I thought good they found out what was wrong with me. . I had the stomach problems they started in the night, I felt like if I went to the bathroom that I was going to die. For a full year I delt with my stomach hurting, before I got really sick. I was so depressed, really depressed. I was taking Norvasc which was doing good for my blood pressure. Before this started my doctor told me to try this wonder drug, it would make everything perfect, it was cheap and my insurance would cover it. It was the start of a two year ordeal that I hope is over. The wonder drug was Lisinopril, the death pill is what I call it. I was in the ER blood pressure 170/110 pulse 130. My day of grace came when I ran out of Lisinopril and started taking HCTZ, a water pill. My blood pressure is perfect, 123/75. I can taste, I can remember, I can clean my house, I can take care of my kids and I am looking forward to getting back to work. I hate that this drug stole two years from me and my kids. It seems like there should be a lawsuit somewhere to repay us for all our pain and suffering.

My daughter had an appointment with a gastrointestinal doctor this morning because of her stomach problems. (She has been off of Singulair 10 days now and ALL symptoms- leg pains, abdominal pain, dizziness, sensitivity to light, severe mood swings, depression, anxiety, severe tantrums have all vanished) We kept the appointment with GI because our physician advised us to. He found it hard to believe that Singulair could be the cause of all of her symptoms. Well the GI also found it hard to believe that Singulair was the cause but said, "The proof is in the pudding." I have filed a complaint with the FDA on medwatch.com. It was very easy. I have also asked the doctor to file one as well. I also gave the doctor a printout of the studies done. Hopefully with more and more people filing complaints the FDA will act quickly. There is so much indisputable evidence regarding adverse reactions. It is unbelievable how many stories sound just alike. So many children have lost years of their life due to this drug. Parents have spent so much time and money trying to figure out what is "wrong" with their child. It is a shame so many have been incorrectly labeled all because of a drug they were taking!!
