Stools symptoms and conditions

I am in the UK - where any knowledge of side effects related to Yasmin appear to be non-existent. I was prescribed this to treat my endo after having problems with another pill (constant bleeding and mood swings).
Initially it was like a magic pill - immediately improving the mood swings and stopping the constant bleeding. Then after about 4 days I felt so nauseous I wanted to go home from work - this lasted a few days.
A week and half into my first pack, I suffered continuous asthma attacks - with no obvious cause, this developed in hours to spontaneous vomiting along with a hacking cough.nI was prescribed antibiotics for "infections". The symptoms continued until it was unbearable and I was put on anti-vomiting tablets. and changed onto a different antibiotic.
A week later back at the doctors surgery I had a series of tests - awaiting results as I type, as I have very dark urine, stools that are not "normal" (clay or yellow), pain in my stomach, pins and needles, continue to vomit if don't take the anti vomiting tablets. Have now stopped taking Yasmin and await results...
HOw long does everyone appear to improve after stopping taking Yasmin? Also does this sound like I may have a case of hyperkalemia? (I am awaiting results).

Wow, thank you all for your postings. I just wished I had found this before I had Mirena put in. I had it placed in Feb 2009, it's been exactly 5 months. I have been extremely tired and agitated. I didn't really associate this with the Mirena until reading the other posts. My hair comes out by the handful (with root attached), I never have solid stools, I have gained about 10 pounds even though I have been trying to lose weight through a diet and exercise program. All the weight is in my stomach and people keep asking me if I'm pregnant. I started to wonder if I could be seeing as I was crying all the time, extremely moody, and that I look at least 4 or 5 months pregnant. All pregnancy tests have come back negative. I got this put in the day before my fiance and I got engaged ( not knowing at the time) and last week we were about to call of the wedding because of my emotional state and constant conflicts. I have to wonder how much of this is caused by the Mirena. I have already made an appointment to talk to my doctor after reading what all these other women have been through. It's just so tough because with any type of birth control their are side effects so I don't want to make it out to be like this is the worst thing ever, it may be exactly what someone is looking for, but just be informed that there are some side effects because I like a lot of other women on this post was lead to believe that there were no side effects or very little side effects.

I've been taking Yaz for about a year and a half. I also take lexapro to help even out extreme mood swings I would get (2 weeks before my period). For a while, probably the first year, I just felt more tired, which I thought was because of the lexapro. In the past 6 months though, I have been getting a stomach flu type illness every month, 3 days after I start my new pack of pills. I also have a very sensitive stomach and get sick easily. I recently lost 5 pounds (from 125 to 120) without making any lifestyle changes. Also, this year I've had low iron levels, and noticed my stools are black from time to time. I went to the doctor today to have my blood checked and also submitted stool samples. Could this all be from Yaz? I have been getting the flu (or flu like illness) way too much this year, and my boyfriend never catches it from me. I am worried about going off the medication because the yaz and lexapro have really controlled my mood swings, and my skin gets much worse without birth control. I'm just worried something more serious is going on here. I am 26 and a healthy eater, so I don't understand all the stomach problems! Does anyone else have these issues? Especially after starting a pack of pills (I feel fine the week of my period)...

Ok-let me just say that I am so happy that I have found this website and so many other people out there with negative symptoms as a result from taking Yaz. (I WORK FOR AN OB/GYN!) When I was young, I was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia (EXTREMELY TIRED) that was related to heavy bleeding - the treatment: birth control.The doctor I work for recommends Yaz as "the best pill out there." So, trusting his opinion, I started taking Yaz around 2 years ago. In the beginning, I guess I really didn't notice any new symptoms. But, it seems like the longer I am on Yaz (I am taking no other medication) the worse my symptoms get. I started noticing symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome: alternating constipation and diarrhea, abdominal distention, gas, and soft stools. Lately, my symptoms resemble both IBS and Celiac Disease - which is very scary to me. I've been researching IBS, Celiac Disease, and Lactose Intolerance; while trying to change my lifestyle and diet to try and make my symptoms better - according to the treatment to these illnesses.
Not to mention, I am ALWAYS tired. I've had my hemoglobin checked and am no longer anemic, so where is the fatigue coming from? I could sleep at any time, any place. I have muscle pain that comes and goes and a seriously decreased libido. What?! I have pain with intercourse and feel horrible trying to explain these symptoms to my boyfriend. It wasn't until I read the symptoms (listed on the Yaz website) that included an abnormal reading in pap smears! How can a doctor prescribe this?
It wasn't until recently that I thought my symptoms could be linked to Yaz. I have a yearly appointment with a new OB/GYN in a couple of days and will definitely let her know of my symptoms and will most likely change to a different oral contraceptive.

This medication has been very effective for me, who suffers from nausea on a frequent basis and does not know yet for a 100% cause of it. It is possibly anxiety.

Anyway, one side effect this medication causes for me is constipation. But a lot of different medications cause that. If you are constipated, start taking fish oil. It makes stools softer and more regular.

Another side effect is drowsiness but that goes away after a while of taking the medication.

I take fish oil supplements daily. Or every other day. It's a supplement so I'm not too strict on taking it everyday. The bottle recommends 2x a day with meals, but I only take it once a day.

There are no bad side effects. The good side effects are more frequent bowel movements. And more pleasant bowel movements -- no straining or pain. This is the main reason I take the fish oil since it appears that the other medications I'm taking are making my stools hard.

This medication can also help cholesterol, and though I have been taking it for a couple months now, I haven't noticed an improvement. I do not have bad cholesterol or anything by any means, but sometimes my bad cholesterol is SLIGHTLY elevated, and my good cholesterol is slightly lower... but it didn't seem to change that. I might have to take it 2x a day as suggested and check then, but I think it would cause me to have a bowel movement too often (in one day) so it's not something I'm sure I'll due.

I have been taking Move Free for over a month now to help with sore knees that hinder my workouts. I have been experiencing frequent gas and diarrhea. It has become a problem for me at work and i beginning to get concerned that something is seriously wrong. I didn't know what was going on and tried to narrow down what was different or new in my diet. I noticed the bottle of Move Free on the counter and found this site. It seems Im not the only one having these side effects. I will discontinue using the product immediately and hope the stomach problems get better.

I have also had a headache with Pexeva, on and off for weeks, and even as a withdrawal symptom. I went back on after two days for various reasons. I mainly went off the med because it was making me have to go to the bathroom (soft stools, sometimes worse) and lots of gas and stomach cramps, etc. I decided to go back on though because I loved how calm and relaxed I was. I also had an awful headache like when I had first gone on the med. I believe it was withdrawal symptoms (even though I had just started Zolof). I thought if I went back on Pexeva, my gastrointestinal symptoms might disappear after a few weeks and I need to give it more time to see. I have been back on for 7 days now and have yet to achieve the calm and relaxed mood I was in, but maybe I need another week. The gastro problems are on and off, some days better than others. Headache has varied, but today the worst. The one problem I am having and perhaps is getting worse is itchy skin, especially my nose (on outside, top and around it). So, maybe I am allergic to Pexeva, which would explain also the gastro probs. All and all, I have probably been on this med for a couple of months or so, mostly on.

I had Mirena put in in April 08, I did not have the bad cramping when inserted or any cramping after, how ever I did start bleeding 2 1/2 weeks later and it continued for almost 15 days, and then every 8 days after that I would start "spotting". Just recently the spotting has slowed, but I am bloated ALL the time I have had Looser stools I get nauseated easily IM VERY stressed and tired, and I had a great sex drive before, now I don't even thing about it and pretty well shun my husband who now sleeps in the living room. I have a blood clotting disorder where I cannot take certain forms of birth control and I was told that this was the best option now I wonder if the mini pill is better?!

I was given omnicef for a sinus infection, though I was told to take it twice a day , ive only been taking it once a day , due to an unnormal schedule... It has caused me to be so uncomfortable..I cant stand it. I have unbelievable abdominal pain, cramps ... but no diarrhea... Im constipated , one bowel movement a day ... and I also have the rust/ red stools. which is a listed side effect . Ironically, Before being diagnosed with all of this, I was in the doctors office a few weeks earlier complaining of stomach problems. . thinking I may have an ulcer, and my doctor told me It was only stress... yet he never tested me for an ulcer, no x-ray , nor an endoscopy. Now Im on some medicine that apparently may mess me up even more. WOW.

i have been on Yaz for almost two months and i am stopping this pill after i finish this pack. at first i thought it was great, but did not consider that the reason i got a severe bacterial pneumonia, as that it might have to do with this pill. when i read from the makers of Yaz itself that a number of trial patients came down with a URI and that it may or may not be the result of the pill, it started adding up.

so i got through that and now i am still dealing with nausea that lasts all day some days. i am also having some stomach cramping and my stools have recently been very dark, which is unusual.

i don't feel that it is helping my PMS. My first period was lighter, but the kind of cramping it caused was different and still very painful for me.

i just don't get a good feeling about this one and don't like the idea that it affects your kidneys processing of potassium to the point where you have to get your blood checked for elevated levels.

also, i had a certain amount of cellulite that seemed to appear within a short amount of time. i don't like this at all. i didn't have that before. i had a little, but now it is like doubled.

i am also having dizzy spells and blurred vision and since i have fibro, i have noticed that i am in more pain lately.

so goodbye to Yaz. no more BC for me. this just motivated me to try and balance my hormones doing everything i can naturally.

We have seen many people report gray stools while on Singulair. Gray stools usually mean some kind of liver/bile situation because bile usually gives POOH it's medium brown color.

Stool color should be listed as a side effect. Then that should be investigated because it is connected to liver function.

I failed to mention this in my previous postings.My 7yr.old ,who had been on singuliar for along time,had been having chronic stomach pains.Since being off,I noticed a drastic change in her stools.They went from grayish in color, back to the normal brown.Previously ,to going off Singuliar,blood work had been done to find the cause of the pain.Her blood counts were fine,but her cholesterol was high(266).High for a 7 yr.old who eats a balanced diet.I'm meeting with her doctor tomorrow to discuss many Singulair issues with him.I will have her cholesterol checked in the near future.Waiting for Singuliar to be out of her system awhile before having test done.

Hi, njcukett posted 2 days ago asking if anyone is still having abdominal pain after being off singuliar awhile.My 7 yr.old (on singuliar at least 3 yrs.) is still having pain.She also had bladder issues for the past 2 yrs.(Frequent dripping and urgency to void).This went unexplained by doctors.Over the past 6 weeks since she stopped taking singuliar,I have noticed a complete change in her stools.While on singuliar they had become grayish in color.She would have 2-3 of these movements a day.The color of her stools are now normal,but the lower abdominal pain is still present.So I am wondering if the pain is coming from the bladder, not the stomach.I am going in(without my daughter) to discuss this with her pediatrician next week.Singuliar also made her very anxious,do not want to add to that,by discussing this in front of her.For the people having abdominal pain,did the stools change while on singuliar compared to when off?Just curious.

My 1 year old was prescribed Omnicef for a possible sinus infection. Before she started taking this med she had a little cough and a runny nose, not that bad at all. The doctor thought she should go on this for 14 days to help. She has been on the med for 4 days, and her symptoms have gotten worse. She is coughing all the time, she is having massive maroon colored runny stools, and she has a horrible diaper rash. She has started to get a welt on her thigh, and rash around her cheeks and chin. I am currently waiting for the doctor to call us back regarding the problems she is having. I am so glad I found this website, and know that I am not being paranoid. My daughter is the most even keeled baby you will ever meet, but the last couple of days she has been crying all the time as if she is in pain. I have stopped the medication and will never allow her to take this medicine again!!!!

I'm 40 year old male and I'v been taking ZOCOR for almost 2 years. I am very active ,working out 3-5 times a week both lifting weights and either running or eliptical training. MY cholesterol was a genetic issue and 20mg of ZOCOR at night has lowered it to normal some what normal ranges. I have noticed that my stools in the morning have been irregular. I have noticed more muscle pains in my legs when I lay down at night. I just recently had had my first ECG and now it appears there may be some sort of irregularly. After reading all the postings, it appears that alot I have a lot of the same side affects and just brushed them off. I now have a consult with a cardiologists. Has anyone else had abnormal ECG's after taking ZOCOR ?

Be aware that "Brick Red Stools" in children can suggest a bleed from Mackel's diverticulum and hence must be referred to a paediatrician. Mackel's diverticulum is a congenital condition. The bleeding usually settles on its own but very rarely the child can become severely anaemic and may need a blood transfusion. Surgical intervention also is very rare.

I have been on NuvaRing for a little less than a year. My OBGYN prescribed it. It was my first time using birth control. I noticed 2 things right away - I was a lot more calm/non-chalant and I had lessened sex drive. I thought the latter was due to my nervousness about my boyfriend pushing it up too far for me to fish it out again and maybe at first that was part of it. But it's gone from overactive to almost non-existent (little physical desire, mostly emotional & love desire). I think normally there such be a balance. Also it is difficult to have an orgasm now - I have to really concentrate. My calmness was great in that it balanced out my highs and lows, but now it's to the point that I mostly don't really care about anything one way or the other. Too non-chalant. I also am experiencing depression for no or irrelevant reasons - so bad that it's kept me out of work and even - yes - even the shopping mall! I have no desire to go outside and do anything - grocery shopping, shopping, shopping, walking around or anything - which I thought at first was a good thing for the shopping, shopping. Like most of the posters I could just lay around and sleep and eat all day. With the sleep - I can sleep, but I am NEVER tired. I can stay up until the wee hours of the morning without a yawn like it's the afternoon and I still wake up very early. With the food - I can eat multiple times in a row - full meals. I'm always hungry and never full/satisfied. I am constipated with hard stools. This was an issue until I got off of partially hydrogenated oils (about 2-3 years ago), however even with my altered diet I've still been having issues. My thighs have been falling asleep - weird. Also I can't remember anything from one moment to the next - which I blamed on stress and age. I discontinued NuvaRing as of today (the day I found these posts). Thank you for being so honest & for sharing your experiences. Hopefully these posts will help others in search of answers.

Depression, rise in blood sugars, nausea, stomache, complete loss of appetite, gray foamy stools and being cold all the time. New doctor wasn't happy with my taking Inderol since I have diabetes, but it has worked well for 20 years and I have fairly good control on the blood sugars. The side effects hit me out of the blue, having been on beta blockers as long as I have Between being cold (It was 70 degrees out today) and the depression I don't even want to get out of bed. I didn't expect this. Still have a few of the Inderol, will call the doc tomorrow and switch back.

I was given Metoprolol, a generic for Toprol-XL several months ago, for high blood pressure. It was prescribed after I was determined to be allergic to Lisinopril. ( It caused a cough that lasted 3 months; I sounded like a TB patient.) Anyway, I have been taking Effexor for years, for anxiety attacks. Now that I take Metoprolol along with the Effexor, I am so tired and drained all the time, that I am contemplating quiting work. I go to the grocery, come home and lie down. I can't seem to have energy to breath correctly. My Dr. won't believe that this has anything to do with meds. I have now developed blood and mucous in my stools, diarrhea, and very urgent BMs. This all started after taking these two meds in combination for about 4 months.

Been on 5mg Warfarin for past 2 months. Developed severe headaches, resulted in MRI brain scan. Thank God all clear. Severe hair loss and dry coarse hair, sour smelling stools, weight gain.Fatigue. But Doctors and specialists reassure you, none are from the Warfarin!!! DON'T THINK SO!

My daughter is ten years old and has had breathing problems since she was born, diagnosed with asthma/RAD when she was 2 or 3. She has been on several different medications since two or three including Singulair. To date she has been diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans(bone necrosis in her knee), recurrent UTI's with kidney reflux and had a deflux surgery a few years ago, cold urticaria (hives when her body temperature is rewarming and vision problems. We just recently switched her Advair discus to a regular Advair inhaler with a spacer because her voice changed and had swollen tonsils for over two months. She has had stomach pains forever which I thought was from bladder infections but they are now getting worse with vomiting. After a few years I strongly believe that it is not from her bladder infections because she always has a trace of nitrates in her urine whether she has stomach pains or not. After reading the listings on this site I am definitely looking into this further. She has always had a very hard time with her emotions and anxiety and been very frustrated in not being able to control it. She gets headaches a lot. she also gets extremely bad cold sores. I am positive that these drugs we give are children need more long term studies to learn the short and long term-side effects. It is very frustrating to me that all these people have very similar side effects and nothing is being done. I just spent last night in the emergency room with my daughter having horrible stomach pains and vomiting again. No fever, normal stools etc. I will definitely be bringing this up ar our next doctor visit and be writing the manufacturer. Good luck to everyone out there. After a simple operation I have these symptoms after taking Cephalexin: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, stools that are watery, pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, fever, mental confusion, weakness
dizziness, tired feeling AND vaginal discharge.

My 6 mos. old daughter has been on Omnicef for about 3-4 days now, AND she is also dealing with some constipation...today she had about 3 clay like stools that were red-orange and then tonight another one was completely brick red/maroon. It didn't really look like a typical bloody stool, but I was nervous due to her constipation and straining when trying to get it out. I called the triage nurse and she said it was from the Omnicef...thank God she's not actually bleeding!

It was very alarming though, and we almost went to the ER. Hopefully her resp. infection and constipation will subside and she will get to feeling better soon!

My daughter was prescribed Omnicef for an ear infection. Almost a week into the dosing she developed a severe rash all over her body. She also was very "sensitive" while on the meds, which it's hard to tell if it was the meds or just not feeling well. But my son has been on this med before and had the orange/red stools. After reading all of these posts I will never allow him to take this medication again. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that we have seen the worst of her rash and she can start to get on the road to recovery.
