I have been on Singulair for ten years or more. Six months later I was diagnosed with depression because I wasn't sleeping and felt tired. I was prescribed Paxil. I was sleeping less and had tremors. The doctor doubled the Paxil dosage and put me on anti-seizure medication. I stopped sleeping and checked myself into a hospital. They diagnosed me with bipolar disorder and prescribed Lithium. All this time I was taking Singulair.
All these years I would feel like some part of my thinking process believed it would be better if I was no longer alive. These thoughts felt very unemotional and detached.
When I heard about the possible connection, I immediately stopped taking Singulair. I know that they recommend you see your doctor first but I did it anyway.
All the thoughts of suicide have gone. My brain feels like you would feel if you recovered from the flu.
It has been a week now. I still take the Lithium. I don't want to risk a manic episode.

I have had asthma and anxiety issues for 25 years since I was a teenager. In Feb., I got pneumonia and my doctor suggested I take Singulair to try to get my breathing back under control. I didn't notice any side effects except I had strange dreams. I found it odd to see that listed as a side effect and brushed it off. My breathing improved, but it seemed my anxiety was worsening and I was worried I was going to have to increase my anxiety medicine. I never linked the two. On Easter, after being on the drug for nearly 6 weeks, I had an angry outburst at my husband and kids while we were getting ready for church. I left for church without my family and cried all the way and during most of the Mass. Afterwards, as I was driving, I thought about driving into a tree and killing myself, I felt worthless and felt I had ruined my family. That night, I was afraid to go to sleep because of the strange feelings I was having. I didn't take the Singulair and stayed up most of the night. I haven't taken it all week and was shocked when my husband reached me at work to say Singulair had hit the news with this possible side effect. I found the timing was bizarre! It obviously is not the right drug for me. Perhaps it somehow interacts with anxiety meds, extreme hormone levels? It doesn't seem that the ingredients in the drug itself would cause such drastic effects. My breathing has improved as each week has passed as I recover from having pneumonia. I will be talking to my doctor about trying something else to keep my asthma in check.

I have been taking Effexor XR for a year now. When I first started I was taking a 150MG now I am down to 75mg a day. I have experienced a lot of abnormal dreams and usually I am interacting in my dreams. I also have experienced different parts of my body jumping. I am coming off of this medications and work on my anxiety on my own. It is always best to do everything natural because no one knows what medication actually does to your body but I can tell you I have had some strange feelings.

I was prescribed the one dose of Levaquin yesterday for a urine/bladder infection. By midnight my children were dialing 9-1-1 because I developed severe chest pains, could not breathe and had strange thoughts and visions. I am 40 yrs. old and have had no problems like this whatsoever. I also had chills, shakes, and strange feelings. They did the normal tests in the ER - EKG, blood work, chest x-ray - all normal results. After being discharged from the ER I still felt strange and could not sleep. I went on a website and looked up side effects of Levaquin and was shocked to find I had a majority of them. I'm at work now and wanted to do more research on the internet when I stumbled upon this site. Wow you guys are describing my symptoms perfectly. Thank God I only took 1 pill. I am still shaky and not 100%. I will definitely try the magnesium and other remedies. Thank God for this site. This drug needs to be taken off the market immediately.

Hello,
I read about how YAZ birth control pill affects the body and psych and I am now scared. This is my 2nd day of YAZ (I've never been on birth control pills ever and I am 27 years old), it's all new to me but after reading all these negative posts about Yaz I don't know what to do. Before the birth control pills, I was depressed, annoying, serious weight problems - 210 lbs :~~((, low energy, low libido, always tired, terrible migraines every 2nd day, ridiculously increased appetite and excessive hunger, hair where it shouldn't be, menstrual blood clots, excessive cramping etc
I have all these problems for 3 years now and now that the family doc. put me on YAZ birth control pill I am even more scared - mainly of more weight gain, it would be a tragedy for me, I am fat enough already and what's worse I can't lose the weight, exercise doesn't help, diet doesn't help, NOTHING. Will YAZ birth control pill worsen my already tragic condition? I just don't know what to do and what to believe ... I appreciate any advice or help you can give me ... Thank You to all!

I was prescribed Levaquin for seven days in August for a strep throat infection. I took a "frontload" dose of 750mg and four doses of 500mg. I got off it after the 5th day due to strange feelings of tingling, burning, stiffness, and pain in my feet, ankles, knees, and hips.
For the first week or so after discontinuing Levaquin, I could barely hobble around due to the stiffness and pain in my legs. I took an Aleve every twelve hours for about 10 days, which helped a lot. As someone on this board suggested, I also tried drinking Ensure (apparently the calcium and magnesium helps to counteract the effects of the drug). Can't really say whether it did much, but at least I felt like I was doing something to repair the damage. I laid off vigorous exercise but tried to maintain some moderate activity so as not to let my muscles weaken.
I'm relieved to report the symptoms diminished over time. After about two weeks off Levaquin, I finally had a pain-free day. It's now been six weeks and I'm pretty much back to normal (though still being careful not to overstress my joints).
My heart goes out to anybody suffering from the side effects of this drug. I hope with care and patience you're able to recover. I feel lucky to get out of this without being crippled. I will NEVER take Levaquin again.

hi tabbycat.
please don't be scared just be aware. for some people yasmin is the best thing ever for others it is not. i am not sure why doctors keep insisting on changing our pills when we are fine on the ones we are taking already! the only thing i can say is try it but take a good multivit with b6 and b12. tale a cal mag supplement also. drink plenty of water as yasmin has a diuretic built into it. and most importantly watch yourself for any changes, any strange feelings, anything out of character. if you feel bad in any way stop it and go back to your original pill. i am not sure if it bad for the majority of people. i would guess not as it has been approved but it can be bad for some people.
good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I have been taking biaxin for 8 days for a URI and a sinus infection. The metalic taste in my mouth is awful. I taste it all day and night. I can't sleep good. It takes hours and hours to fall asleep. I have been very depressed. I didn't even want to be around my husband. I felt strange feelings about him. Like he just gets on my nerves, etc.... I am very tired all the time. I am not a napper, but have been finding myself just wanting to lay in bed and try and fall asleep during the day. This morning I woke up with a terrible stomach ache and has been hurting all day. I have 5 pills left and have decided to stop taking them. I thought I would go online and find out if this is what is making my stomach hurt. I am shocked about what I read. At the time time I am relieved to know that the depression and imsomnia are due to this drug. I will call my doctor tomorrow and let him know that I will not take this again.

hi claudia,
i read many theories on panic attacks and anxiety along the way to my recovery, i read on that was very good by joe barry i think called panic away. he basically explains the mechanism for panic attacks ie what each feeling is and what your body is doing to create it, i don't know why but i find that really helps me,i can go ..oh yeah that feeling is just this happening or that happening and by not panicking about the feeling the panic attacks seem to just go away. i also tell myself that i cannot let them rule my life and decide what i do and don't do. i just tell myself that even if i have an attack i know that i will handle it and that it will not and cannot hurt me,it is actually my body's way of protecting itself from any impending danger, the trouble with panic attacks is that they can appear when there is no real danger so when you feel the feelings coming physically tell yourself to stop being so sill, you are fine and you are in no danger, count to 20 to distract yourself or sing a song, before you know it you will realise that the feeling of and impending attack has gone. take a big gulp of water, that will help your system too. don't be afraid of having an attack in public, people are mostly kind and will always help you, just knowing that will also help prevent them,so what if you have an attack, you've dealt with them before and they have never physically hurt you yet,you have not had a heart attack when your pulse has raced etc . i know it sounds easy to say but keep telling your self these things if you do not panic when those odd feelings and thoughts creep in you cannot and will not have a panic attack, you will just have a set of strange feelings that will go away if you pay no attention to them! you will get to a stage where you will almost be saying..bring it on so that you can prove that you are not afraid and that you can handle them,i do. i also read the book feel the fear and do it anyway.it is not about panic attacks etc but it is really good for impowering you and making you want to go out and do more things! hope some of that helps,i will happily share some more tips with you if you want more or if you just want some moral support.please let me know how you get on in the future.
sarah (sorry if there are loads of spelling mistakes but i am doing fifty things at once today!)

Update: I posted a message on 2/15, detailing my experience with Lisinopril 5 mg. I'm happy to report that the marathon coughing is finally over :) Yes, it felt like the coughing would never end! It gradually subsided in a span of two weeks. I would still occasionally cough as I noticed that there still seems to be an abundance of phlegm. But at least the constant coughing is gone. And, no more stress-incontinence as long I don't start the hacking cough. I feel so much better. I'm not as dizzy or light-headed. I'm still on Benicar 20mg (an ARB II ? not an ACE) and HCT 25mg. So far, no intolerable side-effects. My bp is controlled and will soon go for a follow-up visit. Just hoping I won't have to take this poison again.
One thing I noticed, on the following day I stopped Lisinopril, I had difficulty swallowing like even a teaspoons worth of food. It lasted for about a week and I was bloated. I was sure that I was having a bad reaction. But overall, things are generally better. I can say that life is good again :) The doc said that for some, it does take some time for the body to rid itself of the Lisinopril.
I disagree with the guy who implied that perhaps these are perceived symptoms. I think not! I am living proof that indeed, Lisinopril is the culprit. Like I said, I was never on any prescription drugs for the long haul other than your garden variety antibiotics. When I developed pregnancy-induced hypertension during my third pregnancy, I was put on Methyldopa for a few months. Any drugs I take, I always notice adverse side-effects. I'm in-tuned with my body when it comes to that, as are most people here who had complaints. So to suggest that these are "general and can be caused by and associated with many things" -- is an ignorant comment. It's not mass hysteria. Most people who posted here have already suffered the side-effects before they read what others wrote. They know from experience and observation that their condition was not normal after taking this drug and not because they first compared symptoms with other people.
You wrote: "Perhaps I would feel different if there had been a strong and relatively immediate reaction to the drug, but much of what I read suggests to me that people have other issues and problems, not a side-effect."
Wrong! Even the doctor concedes that many people do have these bad reaction to this drug. Not everyone is wired the same way, so naturally, some won't notice immediate side effects unless they're extremely allergic.

I went into the hopital for a bowel resection. They gave me Reglan after the surgery. Within in a day. I had strange feelings, restlessness, edgy and could not stop moving. I walked the hopital for hrs and hrs. One nurse said I was having anxiety attacks and gave me ativan. They released me after 9 days. I was back in another hospital that same night with a bowel obstruction. They pumped me with more reglan. I became very shakey and felt like I was going to fall apart. I stayed in that hospital for 19 days. When they released me I had to go back and see my original surgeon. I told her I thought the reglan was doing strange things to me. She just increased my ativan and told me I had to take it for at least 3 more mos or I could end up back in the hospital with another bowel obstruction. I started to have head shaking episodes about once a week but I still thought it was anxiety. Then after being off reglan for 1yr, I was still having attacks only every night. I saw a neurologist and she said I had permanent damage to my brain from taking Reglan and now I"m on Parkinsons medicine and ativan to try and control the symptons. I will never be the same and would not recommend this drug to anyone.

I have been taking Neurontin since April 2004 with no problems until recently October 2004. I take 400 mg morning and night. I am now experiencing dizzy spells, complete memory failure of current events, and memory failure of names those close to me including their names. I have times of strange feelings that seem like waking dreams to me. I have reported this to my doctor and he has taken me completely off it immediately. This has not been fun.

I had been taking Yasmin for approximately two and a half months, when I discovered that the strange feelings I had been having could possibly be linked to this method of birth control. I have been experiencing panic attacks, one of which sent me to the emergency room (I'd never had one before), headaches, anxiety, lowered libido, increased hunger, more frequent urination and fatigue. After I got tired of feeling like death was at hand from the panic attacks, I stopped taking Yasmin altogether. That was just a couple of days ago. I hope no long-term damage has been done. I think doctors know about the side affects but because of plush deals or agreements with pharmaceutical companies, they push these drugs on us as the alpha and omega of our options.

I have taken paxil 2 - 3 years probably, started out taking 12.5 miligrams but during the last year and a half increased to 20.m.g. I have terrible night sweats, clinch my teeth really bad, have dreams that are "hair raising", not frightening all the time but just wake you up feeling strange.I've gained weight but that may not be the paxil, I have a real urge to eat sweets that I've never had before the last year or so. I have very hard to explain popping in my ears when I'm laying down. It affects my hearing and I even see flashes when I'm trying to go to sleep. I have miagraines and attribute some of this to that. However this did not happen prior to taking the paxil and I wonder if other people have the same symptoms. I'm in the process of stopping taking this drug and have just about gotten off it. How long will it be before its out of my system? Does anyone have these "strange feelings with their ears and head?"

I started taking lisinipril over a year ago. They started me out with the brand name Zestril. (For those who don't know, lisinipril and Zestril are exactly the same drug; Zestril is one of the brand names and lisinipril is the generic.) My insurance company switched me from the brand name Zestril to the generic because it is much cheaper. Anyway, I was started on 10 mg 1x/day but experienced some dizziness and strange feelings on the top of my head. The doctor ordered an ultrasound of my carotid arteries to make sure there wasn't a blockage. There wasn't, so she lowered my dosage of the med to 5 mg 1x/day and the side effect went away. Now, however, over the last several months, I have developed a rash that itches badly (in the crack of my butt, of all places). I quit taking the lisinipril on my own a couple of times, and the rash went away, then I started it again on my own, and the rash came back. I've decided to ask my doc to switch my med. It's a shame, because the lisinipril works so well for me for lowering the blood pressure. Extremely well, as a matter of fact. Also, to answer some of the other posts, yes, lisinipril is now an accepted medication for high blood pressure. It works on the kidneys and thus lowers the blood pressure. I really hate to give it up, but I can't stand the itchy rash anymore.

I thought I was really ill.which made me very depressed.and even had test's done at the hospital to try and find what is wrong with me thankfully nothing appears to be seriously wrong" so why feel so dreadful i thought it had to be the statins!!"
I came off them my self four weeks ago ,since then I have been to see my doctor who has agreed for the time being I should be off simvastatin but consider taking a milder statin.
I do feel slightly better after four weeks ,but still get some of the side effects can any one suggest roughly how long it takes to feel like one's old self again.....Please!!!
