I've been on every type of oral birth control under the sun and have never had a good experience with it. I have been on Loestrin 24 fe for about 4 months now. Ever since I started taking BC, I've had occational dizzy spells, confusion, and an odd euphoric feeling like I'm not all there. I have also experienced occasional hallucinations on the pill. Now, taking Loestrin, these side effects have greatly increased. I experience them more harshly and more often than not. What I was researching that I do not see posted, is the high feeling that I am worried about. I'm not sure how to explain it, but it's like an out of body experience, and at the time it is hard to believe that what is going on around me is real. I also am experiencing horrible uncontrollable nightmares, and waking up with panic attacks. I feel like I'm not in control of myself, and that I may end up hurting myself or others. My depression has come to an all-time low, and my rage is also uncontrollable. I have never had any of these problems before the pill. I have been wanting to get off the pill, but the fear of getting pregnant is making me hang on. I do not get any period whatsoever on this pill, which I do like. I am 17, 5'7 and only about 110-115 pounds, so maybe my size has something to do with this? I'm not quite sure what to do, and my doctor only switches my pill every time I complain. Has anyone else experienced this?

First of all for those of you commenting on birth control, you all need to understand birth control effects every woman differently by age and by already mental illnesses that are present prior to taking birth control. So, to tell people not to take this because of your experiences, does not mean it will be the same for someone else. Not only that, it seems people do not give it enough time to work. You cannot take it for only a month and expect it to be normal to your body right away. It takes time for your body to adjust to a birth control pill due to hormones in it. I used to start birth control with orthotricyclin. The first day I got very nauscious and threw up. The throwing up went on for a couple of weeks on that brand. Then, my periods were lasting for 2 weeks. My Dr. put me on micrette a generic brand with a lower dose. I still had the same problem and then weight gain. I decided to get off birth control all together because I did not like the side effects. I'm now 28 and realize the not good idea of not having pregnancy prevention back up. I finally got back on birth control and my Dr. put me on Yasmin. I am day 1 starter . I have not had any side effects except tiredness the 1st day. I'm clear of side effects for now and I know I'm in the clear due to the fact my past experiences of side effects on other brands of BCP were immediate. Never had I experienced depression or anger issues on any birth control pill. And honestly, it's not by the cause of birth control. It's by what is already an issue with woman, not the pill causing it. I spoke to my Dr. about this because it was a concern of mine based upon reviews of this brand. He told me just that, it's not the pill it's woman that already have issues and it's just showing because of what's really going on in their lives at the time and they are blaming the pill. They might not have had unusual stress before that time frame. They decide to blame the pill because they feel it had started due to taking the pill when really the problem was present before taking it. PMS effects everyone differently as well. I never had PMS symptoms until my later 20's and that was on the pill or off the pill. Periods change frequently. You may have a normal period without cramps, PMS, etc and then the next few you do. It's your body getting older. And when you get older your body changes as well as your hormones. Plus, woman older in their 30's are advised not to take the pill. Vision problems are not related to the pill. It's related to something else. More than reality it's an allergy.
So instead of blaming a pill, you need to ensure it's not related to another problem first.
I have not had any anger, any vision, any weight gain, or other side effects since I've been on Yasmin.
Hope I helped anyone.

I'm so glad I found this website. It's 2:50am and I've been awake until passing out from exhaustion until about 4:30am going on a week now. Trying to kick this Lisinopril habit on my own but I'm so afraid to fall into too deep of a sleep because I've had a few small outbreaks (rash) and a little swelling of my tongue (though it didn't last more than 36-48 hours and wasn't severe). There's a great deal of tightness in my chest and although I keep taking my blood pressure with a home machine every 4-6 hours to check pulse, etc. it feels as though my heart is beating RIGHT up against my chest and is working double overtime. Like it wants to just JUMP out of my chest is how it feels.
About 2 years ago the doc prescribed 120mg propanolol to me and then 6 months later hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene mix(diuretic)-37.5mg and then most recently (almost a year now) 10mg of Lisinopril. My top number in my bps always been very close to normal/high normal but my bottom number for some reason I just cannot figure out hangs between 88-100 regularly. 32 year old female. Don't smoke. Don't drink. Have lost about 30 pounds in the last year and gone to close to 100% organic foods/beverages. No fast food (EVER!), never eat out at all for that matter because of most places' sodium contents, no caffeine, never allow myself to ADD salt to food while cooking (only Mrs. Dash), and buy low sodium/uncured everything when it's available. Not sure other than continuing to lose weight (at about 190 now and am 5'7") that I can do to get the pressure down other than continue taking my evening walks, monitoring my OWN body since I seem to be the only one concerned with the adverse effects these drugs have, and pray that stopping the Lisinopril abruptly doesn't prove to be deadly. I was cutting the pills in half for a couple days, then 1/4s, then stopped taking them. Was convinced they were the cause of my latest set of symptoms (returning migraines, terrible tightness in chest, lightheadedness)...
My hair has also completely thinned and there's a spot in the back of my head that just WILL not fully grow in. Not sure if that's to be attributed to the propanolol or the lisinopril but either way it's no fun. :(Just ready to be healthy again, actually GET sleep, and not worry about dying at 32.
Blessings to all who are here and thank you for the comments, info, advice, etc...

It's scary what is happening to me lately. I am ANGRY all the time and DEPRESSED. I was a VERY happy girl all my life - glass always half full and sunny days even during the huricane weather but for the past month (I'm almost done with my first pack) I see nothing but black and gray everywhere. I hate my friends - all of them actually, I threw cheese at a deli guy who cut it incorrecly, I yell at my boyfriend (notice taht for 2 years of our relationship we never had an argument). I get so stressed, tired and anxious that I'm affraid I'll hurt myself or someone around me. Number of our plates def. decreased. I guess they are an easy target. I want to die bc the BITCH I became is so scary and awful I can't stand her. Funny thing - it's still me. I feel like I am still tehre somewhere hidden in my body that was taken over some monster. I even took some anti-anxiety pills... Let me mention the constant spotting, cramps, weird dark brown spotting thing. Does it get better after teh first pack or should I call my dr now? I used to take Yaz and loved it but it's not the best pill from what I heard and my insurance doesn't cover it. $100 a month for a BC is crazy but maybe worth it.
To all of you that suffer - stay strong!

I was on Yaz for years with no serious problems, but after my baby was born 6 months ago my insurance put me on Yasmin. I hate it! I'm starting to have vision problems and my eyes burn horrible when I get into the sun. I am 37 years old and am in good health. I find myself having mood swings and crying for no reason at all. My concern is my eyes and how bad they hurt. Anyone else having problems like this?

the same as some I've read on here, but not as severe. I have the red neck literally, a few sores in my scalp and more hair loss. as far as libido, I do have less desire, but some still there. I don't go out in the sun much because I just don't feel good if I stay out too long. some sharp pains behind eyes and occasionally up the back of left side of my head.

About a month ago was out in the sun for about 6 hours and ever since then my head has been flaking and itching and has some scabs on it I also have some red rash on the back of my neck. Has anyone else experience this? I can't get it to stop either I tried using Head and Shoulders for 2 weeks like the doctor told me but it doesn't help. Any suggestions?

Well I was on the Nuvaring for two and a half years. I was taking it purely for the birth control, my periods prior were fine. I had no side effects until about 2 years in. It was December of this year and I started pulling over on the side of the road with horrible panic attacks. I was scared to drive feeling like I was about to pass out. I started going to and acupuncturist in hopes of relieving my anxiety. Right away he said it was my hormones in the birth control, but I didn't want to believe him. About 3 months later I asked my Gyno and she swore that the hormones from the birth control would not cause anxiety. Well slowly it got worse. I was panicking on an airplane- which I had never done before. I had panic attacks in the middle of the day, when I saw the sun set; I was feeling claustrophobic in my own house. I was constantly nervous, and had lost my appetite. So I decided to take out the nuvaring. Within 4 hours I felt better. It has been amazing the change I have felt. I am not 100% feeling better, because I scared myself with bad thoughts while feeling nervous, but I am on my way back to my old self. I caution the use of the Nuvaring, only because it caused me to feel like I was going crazy, and it took years to see those side effects.

I took it from Feb 2007 to October 2008. I decided to take it back since May 2009.
There are some Pros/Cons:
Pros: I lost 25 lbs within a year with that pills. My hormones level (masculine) was getting better. It helped my period to go regular in every month. I controlled my appetite.
Con: My skin has melasma. I was at the beach for few hours with 45 SPF on my face. I got some brown patches, and it was from these pills. Also, I was in depression stage and I was VERY depressed/crazy-emotion over a-small-thing, while I was on the pills. That's why I decided to quit.
I gained 25 lbs back, return to irregular periods, and loves to EAT lot of junk foods. My depression is gone and I decided to take Femcon back and stayed away from the sun.
If you are depression or very upset about any losses/breakups/betrayals/or anything, then do not take Femcon, it gives DOUBLE depression/emotion.

I used the Neutrogena 30 sunblock for the face with self tanner this past weekend with Helioplex. Unfortunately it was the only sunscreen we had on the boat, so I also used the sunscreen on my back, arms, neck, and knees. I broke out in a rash/hives within 24 hours of using it in all the areas that I applied the sunscreen. I am on a full week course of prednisone because Benadryl alone was not helping.
I do have sensitive skin and was excited about a sunblock & sun tanner combo. I thought I was being healthy--take one look at my face and it doesn't appear so this week!

Hey ladies. Has anyone experienced strange bumps on your back, chest, shoulders, and/or arms after being in the sun? They're almost like pimples but if you break them open its a watery fluid that comes out. It looks like a heat rash. And I didn't start getting them till after I got it put in. I've had it since march and it started in June. Doctor says its not acne, said he doesn't know what it is.

i have been on NR for 3 weeks now. i am no longer taking anti depressants, ive lost 20lbs. i feel great about my self and don't have to worry about taking a pill everyday. i have had dark brown mucus discharge with little blood in it for going onto 3 days now but is said to be expected. i have taken almost every oral b/c under the sun and have been close to self mutilation many times, sex angered me, didn't even want to be around my child or family, cried at everything then screamed at everyone for making me cry when it wasn't them at all. the nuvaring has saved my family, my relationship, and my life. i am very pleased.

Until yesterday, I took 14 days of a 4 week prescription of 100 mg twice a day doxycycline for a tick bite rash. I rarely take any medication. The first week I just had mild side affects. Late in the second week I started to notice that I was becoming increasing anxious for no apparent reason. Even after hard exercise the anxiety seemed to be persistent as if an impending panic attack. Yet, I had no external reason to explain the anxiety.
After two additional days the anxiety seemed to keep ramping up and I began to get very dizzy when I moved suddenly or bent down to pick up items from the floor. The pressure behind my eyes also feel like it was increasing. I was afraid my blood pressure was spiking but in actuality it was probably either cranial pressure or simply an fight or flight anxiety response. I also experience some pretty vivid dreams.
I finally searched online and found no official symptom of anxiety for doxycycline but found people complaining about it unofficially. I spoke with my pharmacist who also said she had no listing of anxiety as a known symptom for the drug. She suggested I stop taking it and see if my symptom subside.
It has been 24 hours since my last dose and the anxiety has reduced substantially but not completely. I feel like I have a hang over today but otherwise I do feel an immediate improvement. I am still a little dizzy but not like yesterday.
Like all drugs, you should be very cognizant of how the drug affects your body - even if a physician tells you otherwise because only you can really tell and everyone has different bio-chemistry which reacts in different ways to different drug compounds.

My boyfriend was prescribed sulfameth (10 days/ 2x) for these bumps that appeared on his arms and legs and would appear anywhere that he would scratch. Within 5 minutes of taking the first dosage in the evening, his eyesight became blurry. He had a severe headache that night, chills and a high fever that lasted through the night. He took 2 ibuprofen pills but they didn't help. He couldn't get to sleep the entire night. He also became even more itchy than before he took the sulfameth. He couldn't move due to muscle pain and fatigue. His fever was still there by the time i got there at 7 in the morning and he was shaking uncontrollably. His heart rate was up. It looked to me that more bumps appeared on his body and some became a dark purple blotch, like a bruise. His fever broke around noon and stayed away for a couple of hours but it returned. His skin started to peel after his fever returned. At first i noticed it was on his nose and ear but i didn't think much of it since i didn't see it anywhere else. An hour later he texted me and said his whole body started peeling as if he had sun burn. His temperature is still slightly raised after over 24 hours.
I refused to give him the second dosage of sulfameth that morning and proceeded to call the doctor who had prescribed it. All she said was that he needed to come back in. No way in hell was i bringing him back there. She didn't even look at him for literally a minute and prescribed this crap. She said nothing of the side effects. There was no warning. Even though i looked it up before he took it, I didn't think it would be this bad.

After 10 days of taking Doxycycline Hyclate for Lyme Disease, I noticed a rash on both my forearms. I learned that this a side effect due to increased sensitivity to sun. Within a few more days it looked like a bad sunburn and started to itch intensely. I found that mixing a paste of good old baking soda and water and putting it on my arms stopped the itch almost immediately. I'm taking the last pill today (hooray) and am assuming that the rash will fade away. If anybody else has had this, I'd like to know how long it takes for the rash to disappear once the antibiotic is out of one's system.

So here is the caveat, I am not sure these symptoms really are related to Lisinopril or not, but they all started about three weeks after taking 10 mg a day. Waking at night with rib pain, hip and low back pain. At first this was only at night, for several months (the pain was very intense). The pain would move from rib, to right hip, to low back (mid), left hip seeming to make no sense. I have had every test under the sun, MRI, CTSCAN etc. Now rheumatologist believes I have a thing called Ankolosing Spondolytis which is an auto immune disease in which the body attacks the large joints of the body (I tested positive for the HNLAB27 marker). I will be having a special MRI to test for AS.
So maybe Lisinopril has played no part in this, but I think it is very coincidental that this all started when I started taking the Lisiniprol. I am wondering if Lisinopril could have been the trigger for AS (if it is AS). Until this started I was in excellent health, 40 year old mom of 4!!

I was on the nuvaring for about 3 or 4 months. My best friend decided to try it too since I started it. On top of that we both made drastic changes in our love life, hers an engagement, mine a new beau :). I started the ring about two weeks of dating him, and then realized I could not stand him, for him to touch me made my skin crawl, but I knew that I really like him and wanted the relationship to work (yeah, crazy I know). I would yell and scream, I did not want to be intimate in any shape or form. It was very hard for this new relationship to grow, and I was thinking it was him. My girlfriend was going nuts with her fiance, everything he did or did not do set her off. We thought it was the "bridezilla" in her coming out. We went on a few months thinking the changes was due to our new stuatus. I asked a friend from school if she ever tried nuva ring, and she said "yes that thing made me crazy, my boyfriend almost left me twice." Well two days later I took out my ring to see if it would make a difference, and within 24 hours things were better (sun was shining, birds were singing), I told my girlfriend about it and she tried taking hers out to see if it changed within 2 days she was a brand new girl on her way to a being a blissful bride to be.
All of this to say, if you are not sure if it is the ring try abstaining for a month, take the ring out, and see if you see a difference, for those of you that can't abstain, make sure to take other precautions like condoms or plan b.
P.S. my friend and I kid around about how there is going to be an episode of SNAPPED, based off a woman on the ring.

So for all 300 something of you, I am sorry to hear about your bad experiences with this drug, I am terribly sorry. Some of you however are just dumb! It makes you sensitive to the sun, do NOT go in a tanning bed and then Florida! I am on this medication for Lyme, and yes, I may feel a little queasy, but I will to whatever it takes to get rid of the side effects of that disease! It is not a deadly drug, there are thousands of people on this drug daily, and thousands have no side effects at all. If you are feeling any major side effects call your doctor right away, don't wait till the end of the dose! Thats just silly.

Wow, I thought I was going crazy. I've been so sick the last week but didn't think it would be this new medication. I'm taking 150 mg once a day for 15 days. I have three left of which are going in the garbage. I missed a family reunion today because I'm so tired I can't function. It's like someone gave me a sleeping pill. I've taken three pregnancy tests of which they were all negative thinking I was pregnant. The nausea is horrible. Just talking about food makes me vomit. I have stomach cramps, severe lower back pain, my heart feels like it's doing flip flops at night. My face feels very hot at times. My hands feel like raw nerve endings when put in cold water or wind blows over them. My arms tingle and hurt when exposed to the sun. I just want to lay in bed and not face the world. I've been dieting and lost 15 pounds prior to starting the medication. Boom, all that stopped. Still doing all the workouts and carefully eating but have gained 4 pounds back. Very disappointing. I am so glad I found this site. You won't find this information on the manufactures website.

I'm loving it.
After trying every HRT and pill under the sun for surgical menopause, and I'm in my 30's, I'm glad I've finally found something that makes me feel better.
Trust me here. Everyone is different and it may take you a thousand different medications until you find the right one, especially with hormones, but when you find the one that works for you life as you know it changes for the better.
Don't listen to that bollocks about HRT or the Pill causing you breast cancer and death... not having HRT or the pill etc can cause you just as many difficulties. Some of you may get osteopenia, vaginal atrophy, and other things that are very private. Let's face it, death can come after you even if you're not on hormones, just look at a children's hospital if you want proof.
I wish all of you suffering from hormonal conditions a healthy long happy life. I know the journey there is hard, but never give up. Just try something else. Even giving hormone therapy a break for a few months and then trying a different drug or approach such as a smaller dose.
Perhaps it's not even your hormones causing the problem, perhaps you should seek a specialist physician, immunologist, endocrinologist or just find another doctor that understands what they are doing and actually helps you.
All of the above saved my life. All of it. Together. It is a long hard road ladies but it's your life.
Blessings to you all.

I was on ability for about 2 weeks to try to help calm my racing thoughts and chill me out on my supposed "mania" (The dr. said I might have a slight mania), at first it helped just a touch, not really much - but then towards the end of the second week, I felt faint and very nearly fainted... also felt like I couldn't concentrate at all. Now, months later, I feel as if it has permanently altered my brain chemistry because where I was almost manic in my energy (which was actually nice sometimes) now i have no energy at all and am sleeping tons and just can't get going in the morning. It's awful. Extreme fatigue that I have never known in my life before. I'm hoping to treat it with vitamins, exercise, sun, and am going to see a Naturopath. I won't touch any brain-altering meds in the future ever again. Abilify is horrific they need to just do away with it.

I've been on doxy for about 10 days. I've never had problems with "photosensitivty" when it had been listed as a side effect on other medications. Totally disregarded the warning. I was put on it for some problems that might arise with acne due to a hormonal injection. I was going to the Florida keys in a few days and thought I should go to a tanning bed to get a little color so I wouldn't burn down in the Keys. Within a couple of days my hands began to tingle, burn with warm water, freeze with cool water. It was like my skin was burnt off and my nerve endings were exposed to the elements. While in Florida with my feet and hands in bandages to keep the heat/sun from causing pain I noticed blistering and still have them. I thought I had shingles, even though I had it on both sides of my body! Had an increased heart rate and 2t pitting edema in my feet and calves when flying home and increased itching on feet and hands. Very nervous at this point! I massaged my calves to increase the flow back towards my heart and it seemed to help. I am also experiencing GiI problems as well, severe heartburn and bloating. My son said I looked like I was pregnant! I can't wait to talk to my Dr. tomorrow and will stop taking this medicine. Thanks to all of you for your information. I'm relieved to find out what is causing all of this. I only hope my symptoms will go away sooner than later!

I have had my Mirena since July. Since then, it feels like my entire world is falling apart. I have become increasingly depressed. I've experienced a loss of interest in just about everything. I no longer have any desire to do anything but sleep. I cry frequently, often for no reason at all. I have gained a minimum of 30lbs in the past six months (likely more, but I refuse to get back on a scale). I have hot flashes, acne, significant hair loss, back pain, dry skin, headaches, constant stuffy nose, and my stomach is constantly bloated. I have excrutiating pain throughout my pelvic area and horrible stabbing pains in my ovaries. Though I no longer have a real period, I have these cramps and stabbing pains nearly every day. I have an appointment to have the IUD removed in about an hour or so. I hope these negative side effects will subside quickly. Can others please share your experiences post removal? Will I ever feel sane again?
