I used the Neutrogena 30 sunblock for the face with self tanner this past weekend with Helioplex. Unfortunately it was the only sunscreen we had on the boat, so I also used the sunscreen on my back, arms, neck, and knees. I broke out in a rash/hives within 24 hours of using it in all the areas that I applied the sunscreen. I am on a full week course of prednisone because Benadryl alone was not helping.

I do have sensitive skin and was excited about a sunblock & sun tanner combo. I thought I was being healthy--take one look at my face and it doesn't appear so this week!

Started on Doxy 200mg every 12 hours for Lyme Disease about 7 days ago and have had painful pins and needles sensation in my hands - on and off since about day 4. The top of the hands seem most affected and any exposure to water (and the resulting evaporative cooling) causes elevated sensation for about 1-2 hours. Any exposure to sun causes a painful sunburn-like sensation. I will be staying out of the sun and hope the pins and needles will go away soon.

I also used the spf 70 lotion recently on a vacation and got the same terrible rash all over my neck and arms. I have never had this experience with any other sunscreen and I use them all the time. It has been more than two weeks and I still have a couple of the blisters that are not totally healed. Beware of Helioplex!

I found this page after searching for info about Helioplex and rashes.

I used Neutrogena Ultra Shear SPF 70 both last year and the year before without any problems. I have also used the moisturizer with Helioplex without any problems either.

However, this year the stuff has broken me out in the most terrible rash, both on my neck and on top of my wrists. Strangely enough I can smear the stuff on my face and no rash results, but this is really affecting my neck. It's itchy, scaly and looks a lot like hives.

I really think there is something up with this stuff - the fact that it didn't affect me until now suggests to me that perhaps it's changed my skin somehow over time. I wonder how many complaints they get?

I began Doxy in Sept of 2007. The first week into it I noticed the roof of my mouth felt strange, kind of rough and sore. I attributed it to the drug and figured it would go away once I was off of it. I began to get a very sore tongue which I attributed to candida....it was a little white too. I was on the drug for five weeks and the mouth symptoms never went away, just went on to become a chronic burning tongue and mouth. Scalded feelings in the mouth as though I had slurped boiling hot coffee. Also, noticed I began feeling very tired and melancholy on the drug....those symptoms have never really gone away. It's been nearly a year and I have tried multiple remedies for my mouth and nothing helps. Has anybody else had the burning and inflammation feeling in their oral cavity. It shows no outward signs.

Im 22 and started Loestrin 24 Fe a month and a half ago after not using birth control pills for about 2 years. I don't remember my body ever responding so severely to birth control. I have never had skin problems at all, I don't think I've had a single breakout since I was like 15. Then last week I noticed my entire forehead had completely broken out, I wanted to cry. I thought it was maybe from using a bad sunscreen but this morning I realized my chest and back are broken out too.

The second problem is weight gain and bloating. I'm 5'2 and normally weight around 120 and am very active. I'd say I've gained at least 5-7 pounds. I've also been far more emotional than I usually am.

I made a Dr. appointment for tomorrow because there's no way I'm sticking with this. After doing research it seems like Yasmin and the Otho-Evra patch might be other option. I'm mostly worried about weight gain when it comes to birth control, does anybody have any suggestions? I'd appreciate it.

took one dose of avelox at 830pm yesterday and then took one dose of hydrocodone for cough at 1100pm. Woke up 2 hours later with ankle & wrist joint pain, swollen flushed face and upper extremeities, completely bloodshot eyes(no visible whites), fever, chills, neck stiffness, itching on neck, shoulders and arms, general body aches, overall joint stiffness. saw doc today and he said conjunctivitis-prescribed drops, and that it was just the infection I had running it's course. Now my husband does not want me to take this evenings dose. perplexed as I have some underlying connective tissue disease and I am not sure if the joint stuff and redness is just due to being out in the sun yesterday without sunscreen and the aftermath

I had been on doxycycline for 4 1/2 days. I was out in the sun by the pool briefly on day 2 with 45 sunsreen - no problem. On day 4 was out by the pool with 45 sunscreen and within 15 minutes I began to feel strange. My face and arms and hands felt like they were burning. I went in the pool to cool off and found that my hands felt like pins and needles, like I had put them in menthol, and that I had fine string on the tops of my hands. (I didn't. It was just that sensation). I called the doctor who didn't think I was having an allergic reaction and suggested I take my next dose as prescribed to determine whether these symptoms were actually from the doxycycline, to which I said "no thank you." I'd really rather have theses symptoms dissipate than possibly escalate. This is day 5 and the symptoms have decreased but my hands are still tingly in water even with rubber gloves on. Additionally, I am also allergic to penicillin. Is anyone else? by lmhsea

I was on it for about two months and experienced a little of the upset stomach. The worst was the sunburn on my nose, hands, knuckles and tops of my toes. And the tingling sensation on my hands was so weird! My nose and hands have healed, but the tops of my toes are still bad (one month later!!) I'm really scared, but one of my docs say that toes take a really long time to heal because of poor circulation. Anyone have this problem with their toes?? Another doc suspects discoid lupus. yikes!

My skin doctor recommended the Neutrogena sunscreen with helioplex. I was excited to learn about it's benefits, until I used it a couple of times. My skin got bumpy and an itchy rash appeared. My skin is flaking off. Obviously this product has some side effects and I am disappointed in the product. Would the sunscreen that contains Mexoryl be any better?

I have been taking Doxycycline for about a month now for adult acne. I have pretty fair skin and I live in Florida so I always wear plenty of sunscreen. Since I have been on this medication I have gotten 2 pretty bad sunburns (even though I was wearing 30 SPF sunblock) to the point where my skin has a constant tingly sensation that doesn't go away for a few days. I don't think it's worth it to take this just to treat acne, but at the time it sounded better than Accutane!

My husband has been on Lisinopril for about 2 years. On two occasions while being on vacation and snorkeling in salt water my husband has noticed severe itching on his upper torso as well as redness. We assumed that he was allergic to sunscreen. Two weeks ago we were in the Caribbean it was a cloudy day so my husband used no sunscreen. He went snorkeling. Again he started complaining of itching on the upper torso and got quite red. In thinking about this, he realized that this has only occurred since he's been on Lisinopril. HIs dosage is 5mg once a day. Has anyone had this strange side effect. Would like to hear.

Oh my goodness. I am so glad to be able to read your posts on doxy. I am taking 100mg twice/day for third bout of lyme disease. The first two times on doxy were not a problem. You know what they say .. third time is a charm.
Anyway, two days after starting the doxy my hands got numb/tingly and drove me crazy (very hard to fly fish with tingly hands). Then it was my feet and right cheek. I noticed that despite being covered up and using sunscreen that any sun now on my hands makes them start tingling.
It is now one week since the start of the pills and I do notice these symptoms going away - good thing too.

I had major sun effects after taking Doxycycline. Easily burning even with heavy sunscreen. My hands especially have been very sensitive and painful to hot or cold anything; even still after over 48 hr of taking the drug.

I got burned but I put sunscreen on every hour...45. I do the same routine every time I am in the sun and my hands and my feet are so raw. They are so red and don't get any better. It is awful. I stopped taking the medicine...it is not worth it.

I've been taking doxycycline for a year and a half and have gained about 25 pounds because of an insatiable appetite. I couldn't figure out why I was always so hungry, but no matter how much I eat, I always have an empty feeling in my stomach. I also have severe headaches on a regular basis and blurred vision. Just recently, my doc changed my dosage from 100 mg once a day to twice a day and I was outside in the sun over the weekend. Even though I was very diligent with the sunscreen, my face got very burned and my lips got a strange tingling feeling (like when your foot falls asleep). Then my arms and hands got a cold tingling feeling like water was hitting me, but it wasn't. Today, two days later, my face is still really sun burned and my hands still have a numb, cold feeling, I'm guessing because of exposure to the sun.

Is CONNIE who wrote on the forum in Aug of 2005 still reading this? If so I have a question for you. I saw that you wrote that you had severe skin changes especially facial skin texture as that is a symptom I have experienced and have not seen many people complain about. I noticed my skin, especially on my face become wrinkly and sensitive, I seem lose volume in my face and the texture of my skin went from oily, resistent, tight skin to dry, sensitive, and mushy feeling. It even hurt to put sunscreen on it (it felt like it was burning my skin.) Even off the Yasmin my skin continued to feel this way, even get worse for a month or so, and then it seemed to start back the other way. Its now oily again, but the texture is still not the same as it used to be, especially around my mouth. I am wondering if your skin ever felt back to normal again. I still get tingling feeling sometimes and it still seems swollen at times. I have been off the yasmin since end of Nov. 2005. Anyone else with this similar side effect? Also I had/have a real sensitive scalp off and on with dryness on the scalp and hair.

I have been taking Yasmin for eight months. Lately I've noticed that even after applying SPF 45, I have gotten sunburnt. After re-applying my sunscreen and having gotten burnt again, I feel that perhaps Yasmin is contributing to my sunburn. Has anyone else felt this way?

melasma (i'm pale skinned caucasian who uses tons of sunscreen) above my upper lip. laser does not get rid of it. i'm not pregnant or nursing.

also, hair loss could be due to overmedicating with synthroid or just plain hypO-thyroidism. just learned that sometimes low calcium (take premcal ONLY) or calcium without the correct ratio of vitamin D and magnesium, could be the reason one gets overmedicated on synthroid, then follows hairloss.

My sister and I are both on doxycycline for our acne. My sister is not taking it anymore because she is having chest pains although she's been off the medicine for three days now. This is my second time taking this medicine. The first time I took it I had to stop because my hands got severly burned by the sun. My hands still feel weird, but it's winter and I've been very careful with sunscreen and wearing stuff to cover my skin if I'm in the sun. This medicine works wonders on acne. Out of everything I've tried my acne improved amazingly. I guess living with irritation in my hands is worth it for me, but hopefully my sister's chest pains will go away.

I've gotten prickily skin while out in the sun for 3-4 hours, even with sunscreen, and then noticed a relatively severe burn, though it has gone away after two days.

I am also taking two other topical medications for acne that increase sun sensitivity as well.

I've also been more irritable, but that is difficult to seperate as I'm about to be moving states, which is stressful.

I'm going to keep taking it, and try to keep closer stock of whether or not it's affecting me.

Yup, just as they say, stay out of the sun. I burn (and tan) much faster since I began taking Mobic one year ago. So much for going swimming without plastering myself with pore-clogging sunscreen! I was told my back pain would be cured, but it's sure hangin' on. It doesn't seem to go away. I'm doing the physical therapy exercises, too. (I don't have arhtritis, but had an injury in 1995 which has caused back pain since then.)
