My 5 year old son was taking Singulair for about 2 years when I came upon this site. I immediately called his allergist and got no answers, so I decided to take him off of it. Within 24 hours I noticed a big difference. He use to not sleep. He would be up all night. he uncontrollable outbursts at school, and home stopped. He is now the sweet boy I remember. I really think he was over medicated. He takes Zyrtec in th morning and was taking Singulair at night. I am appalled at the fact that doctors are over medicating our children.
Thank you for this site. I now can love and hug my child agan.

I am speechless at all the postings re: Singulair. Both of my sons-ages 12 and 10 - have been on Singulair for over 5years for Allergies/Asthma induced by allergies and after reading the possible side effects, I now realize that my oldest son has been affected. His behavior, sleeping habits and social interaction has changed and in the last couple years has increased out of control. I recently made an appt. for him w/a therapist re: anger issues and as of today, called his allergist re: taking him off Singulair cold turkey. He still takes Zyrtec every day and I'm hoping that will be enough for his seasonal allergies to get him through. I miss my sweet boy and will try to make up to him what I've done by allowing this drug to damage his inner self.

My 9 year old son has been on Singulair for about four years for asthma and allergies. It did wonders for his asthma and allergies. However, since starting the medicine, has experienced rages, anger, impulse control problems, extreme mood swings, violent and destructive behavior, repetitive behaviors, bed wetting, weight gain, bad self thoughts, ADD, paranoia, peer social interaction problems...shall I go on? He sees a psychologist once a week for counseling and a psychiatrist periodically. He was diagnosed last year with major depressive disorder and mild ADD. He was placed on an antidepressant, an antipsychotic, and an ADD med. My big-hearted sweet boy gradually faded away. When I heard the news about the FDA investigation last week, I did some investigating myself. What I found was gut-wrenching! The Singulair went in the trash. This drug has stolen four precious years of my sons life and made the entire family suffer! We have been through hell. Only four days off the medication and he is already feeling better and looking like my happy boy again! We are slowly weaning him from his psych meds. I am full of hope now for him and his future and my family's weel-being but I am FURIOUS at Merke!!!

Okay- A friend just emailed this site to me, my son is 4 and has been taking Singulair for about 2 years. He has seasonal allergies which seem to be year round, asthma and food allergies. He is on Singulair and Allegra daily, this in it self freaks me out. What I have noticed for at least the past year is that when he is running around or moving a lot he hold his right side and says he has a pain in it, we now call it a "stitch". it happens not from strenuous activity, our doctor just says its growing pains, that doesn't make sense. something is bothering him it happens with somewhat frequency. I am really thinking about his behavior, it seems to me he can change on a dime. from happy to very angry, outbursts and then right back to sweet, yes this could describe any 4 year old, but not any 4 year old is on Singulair. I remember saying to him where is my sweet boy? I feel like that might have been when we started the meds, i am so used to his behavior now that it seems almost normal but there was a time he acted differently. and i do remember saying that.... was it when he went on Singulair???

This is more to provide more information on the Singulair advertising .The new ads in magazines like February family circle state more side effects like suicidal thoughts and actions, this information has not even made it to the pharmacy's yet.We were told that the drug should be black box labeled if they are listing the severe side effects such as this.It just proves that our 15 year old son who took it for no more 17 days could never have been put on it had we known it could cause depression another newly listed possible side effect.Losing your child to suicide after giving him a drug for allergies was so mind boggling but its starting to seem more criminal that the drug companies are withholding reported side effects as serious as depression, anxiety, aggressive behavior and suicidal thoughts and actions.I have recently provided you with the FDA website but now I am asking you to go the website and call your local branch to file a complaint against this very dangerous and unpredictable drug so it sees the proper label changes and make the public aware of the change via MEDIA OR NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES also most importantly our doctor has not been informed only by us of the major changes in side effects reported and listed. How are we to know if the physicians and pharmacist don't even have the knowledge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The drug company MERCK is notorious for trying to fly under the radar and get away with pharmaceutical murder and this time I can only hope people are sick of it!This medicine is heavily prescribed to children and the most severe side effects do happen to real people like us and my sweet boy paid with his life!

The instructions that come with this medication clearly indicate that this medication , and is typed in caps USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED IN CHILDREN under the age of 15. Please talk to the doctor about the risks and benefits before giving this to your child.
Now that is with the print out you get when you pick up this medicine from Kaiser, and other drug stores, so I am really shocked to read all these stories of people giving this drug to so many small children. Always research your medication BEFORE you give it to yourself or your child.
I have had many bad reactions, and had to learn the hard way for myself and mor my aging mom, she almost was rendered brain dead from a drug I did not research. Do your homework FIRST! I will never make this mistake again. Hope this helps someone.

Our 4 year old son has been on this medication for 9 months. We have gradually taken him off it. Side effects: For the first couple of months, he seemed better. We then began noticing problems: difficulty sleeping, constantly agitated with increasingly aggresive behavior. Crying and saying, "my head hurts." He was coughing continuously, a loose, sloppy cough.
He has been off Advair for 3 weeks now. His peak flow is the same as when on Advair, the coughing has nearly stopped, and he is, once again, a kind and sweet boy.

My son is 2 and a half years old. He's been on Cingular for a little over 3 months. Prior to being on Cingular he had only had one ear infection his entire life. Since Singular, he's had 4 ear infections. I consulted the Singular website and it noted ear infections as a side effect. He has also started waking up in the middle of the night in horrid rage. My husband and I have to stand back and wait for the destruction to end since we don't think he's truly awake-- not about to punish him for that. I didn't realize it until reading these posts but we've been noticing something evil natured growing in what was a very sweet boy. We thought it was just his age but now I'm not so sure... Time to get our angel back!

We put our 3 year old son on Singulair 2 weeks ago for allergies. It seemed to be helping him. He is a very mild mannered kid that has never been an aggressive child and never bites or hits. In the last 4 days his mood has changed, and he has bitten 2 kids at school, hit one kid, bit and hit his grandpa, has been waking up with nightmares and has been very clingy to me (his mom). After reading the side effects of Singulair last night we contacted the pharmacist and told him what has happened and he told us to take him off the Singulair immediately and contact our Pediatrician. I am waiting for a phone call back now. I am saddened that a medication for Allergies can cause such a personality change.
