hello, im 25 and was diagnosed with lupus nephritis 4 years ago, among other meds i was taking 60mg of pred for about 8 months with chemo for my damaged kidneys. in three years my dose went up and down between 60mg and 15mg. the side effects i had were at first extreme water retention, my skin was like play doe, swollen vulva, swollen leaky breasts, hamster cheeks, extra chin, i had extreme hunger cravings , wanted to eat every thing in sight but my husband helped me to maintain a proper diet and i did not gain any weight except for my face and breasts and water retention for around 5 months after diagnosis. i also had all the other effects like racing heart, chest pain , breathlessness, tiredness, excitement, bad mood swings. now after 5 years i have CAREFULLY weaned MYSELF down to 5mgs a days the moon face has gone down but i have the fatty deposit at the top of my back at my neck that happens with long term use, but only i can really notice it, i get nose bleeds cause skin is thin up my nose, i use glycolic moisturiser and have glycolic peels on my face to help with skin renewal keeping ageing at bay and also have factor 50 sunscreen on prescription, take zinc for my hair loss (prescription 220mgs) has helped a lot with hair loss, use pure glycerin on my body to keep the skin soft and less delicate( glycerin can be quite gloopy and stickes on the skin for a good hour before soaking in but does wonders and is in most mosturising creams, use mouth wash for gum desies to keep the bleeding at bay and keep the teeth strong, i buy probiotic yogurt dring and pills for digestive system to get rid of the gas bloating and constipation/diarrhea, take meds to prevent bone problems, drink a pint of full fat milk with some nesquick mixed in every day, i get bad headaches after eating sweet things sometimes that can last all day, i just live with them. don't take pain killers, they just go after ive slept
im constantly finding new ways to cope with the preds, and am now 3 and half months pregnant with my first baby, doc told me 4 days ago that he wants to start putting up my steroids to protect baby and me, so im panicking a bit about the moon man coming back, and hair loss has started again big time also cause of pregnancy. once ive had the baby im going to start back on my routine. perdnisolone is a nasty drug but also a life line for many people who cant get off it and need if for the foreseeable future until something can take its place, so im jus trying to stay 1 step ahead of the drug, the only thing i struggle with is exercise , starting to loose my memory more often, and eye sight is playing up, keep going cross eyed!!! gonna try that mangasteen stuff, worth a shot...
thanks for reading, sorry bout spelling.
love l.

MY STORY
My Mirena was removed on 29th May 2008.
I had the Mirena put in four years ago,I had terrible pain the day after, it was that bad I was going to go to the hospital Emergency to get the thing out but I put up(the worst thing I done in my life, Im paying for it now) with it and it and the pain got a bit better, had a lot of bleeding (spotting) for the first six months and then it finally went away. For the first year I thought Mirena was Great but then the problems started.I started to gain a lot of weight, facial hair,Very sore breasts, I also had a lump removed from my left breast a couple of years ago, but I didn't know until recently that it was most likely caused by Mirena. Some of the other problems I had, My stomach bloated, I look like I'm six months pregnant ,I have a cyst on my left ovary, dry skin, acne, strange depression, headaches, and the Worst of all I had to have my Thyroids REMOVED on 1st Nov 2006 and I'm pretty sure that was caused by Mirena as well, so now I have to take thyroid Medication for the rest of my life,I had the Mirena removed as soon as I done some searching on the internet for my unexplained medical problems, mainly my weight as I had weighed about the same my whole adult life and now I had put on a few stone and now I have to try and lose it,as for my thyroid I have trouble getting the Meds right its a real pain, blood tests all the time.I just don't feel I have much left in my life, depressed, sick all the time. I eat well as I have high cholesterol so its not that I over ate,I noticed you do feel a lot more like eating sweet things. I found a site called ****** and found out there are thousands of woman, girls with the same problems as myself and that there is a class action law suit going on to Sue. Its worth having a look at this site it helped me a lot.I feel so bad I don't go out anymore I don't see friends or family I'm to depressed about my weight now. I am in the process of trying to find out if there is a Class Action Law Suit in Australia. If anyone knows of a Class Action in Australia could they Please let me know. After having the Mirena removed about 6 weeks ago I thought I was doing ok only a bit of spotting, but about 3 weeks after having it removed I got my period and the pain was unbearable,I was in agony stomach cramps and I bleed so much I thought I was going to die from blood loss, also the scariest was the huge blood clots, very scary, must of been four years of period in 1 week I couldn't believe how bad it was, I felt really sick and weak, but thank goodness its eased off now after a week. I just hope now I might slowly start and feel like my old self. Im also on medication for heart palpitations,I get Heart palpitations (SVT) a few times a week,I had my heart palpitations just after my thyroid removal op and was put on ecg and my heart rate was 176 Beats per Minute I was rushed to Intensive Care and I had to have an injection called Impending Doom (It makes you feel you are going to die) to slow my heart rate,it worked and I was kept in intensive car for 3 days, very scary thing to go through I hope I never have to go through that again,my heart palpitations got worse while I was on Mirena and now I also take Magnesium to help control them as well as Metoprolol which I have been on for some years and I recently read that if you are on Mirena it increases the side effects of Metoprolol.
So if you have had any bad experiences with Mirena please let us know,it will help others with their problems, hopefully. I just wish I never got Mirena and my advice is DON'T its not Worth the risk,if the Doctors had of told me about the BAD side effects I would NEVER of had it put in. Sorry about going on so long, Good Luck to you all,
Thanks Net.

UPDATE
I have had it out nearly 3 months now my painful breasts feel normal again,I haven't lost any weight yet, but will soon hopefully,I do feel a lot better but still get some of the symptoms back just before my period.
I get sooo mad when i think of what Mirena done to me and all the other women and how bad some of their side effects have been. I get mad when i read some of the other ladies stories and the terrible things they have gone through ,
Perforations,Miscarriages,IUD's lost in their body,
Hystorectomy, and the rest. I want to wish them all the best, and we WILL get Better and Bayer ,Mirena will PAY some day for what they have done to US..

I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in June and had to take 60mg/day for about a month. Then my doctor tapered me off it so I took 40mg/day for a week, then 30 for a week, then 20, then 10. I stopped taking Prednisone altogether about three weeks ago but have noticed little change in my weight. I gained 17 pounds over the two months I was taking Prednisone and my doctor said it should 'melt away' quickly but it has yet to do so. I've lost a little of the moon-face so that's good but the extra weight is driving me crazy and nothing I do seems to help me lose it. Anyone hava any idea how long it will take to get back to normal?

Been on Methadone tabs for 9 yrs. I gained 130 lbs, have edema in my ankles and feet for the past 8 yrs, I have an endocrine problem (pituitary gland doesn't produce testosterone anymore), I'm itchy all over, I get drowsy, and I have hot flashes. I think I should get off this drug and deal with my chronic pain. At least I'll lose wieght, stop itching, lose the edema and aching feet, maybe restore my endocrine system balance, etc....
Whata ya think?

Hi, I'm 23. I have been on Citalopram for 6 days now. I am also taking beta blockers to slow my heart rate due to having panic attacks. I've found that my mood had improved up until yesterday evening, and I've been feeling much calmer and sleeping ok. This may be due to the beta blockers though. The side effects that I have experienced haven't been as bad as they sound. Felt really spaced out for 3 days and my vision was slightly blurry but is improving considerably now. I have been craving sweet things- but that's probably due to my menstrual cycle! Wake up feeling a bit shakey in the morning but after some food I feel fine. I'm really positive about this medication and I think if you keep a positive attitude and don't worry about the side effects, you will be a happy soon enough.

Hi - message to Berryl - YES, the breast tenderness does ease up. I have had the most enormous, painful breasts since starting Yasmin 2 months ago, but finally they decided to stop hurting and go down in size this week - phew! I have never in my life had large boobs (except when I had my kids) and to suddenly have these huge things was awful - and the pain was unreal - I couldn't lie on my tummy in bed, and going on the treadmill at the gym was hell! My husband went away on business, and when he arrived home and greeted him at the door, he was astounded at my boobs! He asked if the "titty fairy" had been visiting!!!!
I also experienced the worst cramps going and nausea but it has all stopped - so my advice to all of you girls out there experiencing nasty side effects - hang on in there because I'm sure that over time, things will settle down.
I felt beyond desperate a few weeks ago and didn't think I could go on taking this pill, but now I feel so much happier, those horrible nasty sick feelings have gone and I feel so much more normal.
I have to say that whilst I was feeling unwell I did crave sweet things and have put on a pound or two - but now that I feel my old self, I will stop eating them and go back to my old habits.
Good luck to all of you
Sarah

I am 51 year old woman and have been on Lisinopril 5mg and Bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg for many years now, about 8 (not sure). I got the dry cough to start with and then it vanished, to be replaced with a productive cough. I get, at any time, but thankfully not all the time, a constant need t clear my throat and a wheezing in my breath. I am producing copious amounts of mucus and this is what sets it off. It most often happens after eating or after I have been sedentary for a long time so I get it a lot when in bed. I cough until it all clears away but sometimes I am sick, or I cough myself dizzy and come over all peculiar. It is not a listed side effect but I never had this before. My hair has suddenly thinned, hairdresser told me he has notice a big change in my hair (am menopausal but not through it yet, I suppose my age and meo could be cause of thinning hair). I suffer from terrible stiffness in my feet. Sometimes I can hardly walk as my legs and feet as so fatigued. I will limp upstairs one at a time. Other days I can s[rint up! No regular pattern but I have started using a walking stick often as one ankle is very weak and can give way. Could it be the Lisinopril? I had three day bout of my taste buds going haywire about four years ago but it righted itself. Now I have it again, only not quite so bad. I can taste tea and coffee and savory foodstuff mostly as normal but sweet things either are tasteless or bitter. I don't know if I should go doctors or not. Does anyone else get this constant hacking cough due to excess mucus suddenly being produced. Tenalady are making too much money out of me due to this, lol!
