THE FOLLOWING IS COPIED DIRECTLY FROM THE SINGULAIR WEBSITE.....

The side effects of SINGULAIR are usually mild, and generally did not cause patients to stop taking their medicine. The side effects in patients treated with SINGULAIR were similar in type and frequency to side effects in patients who were given a placebo (a pill containing no medicine).

The most common side effects with SINGULAIR include:

stomach pain
stomach or intestinal upset
heartburn
tiredness
fever
stuffy nose
cough
flu
upper respiratory infection
dizziness
headache
rash
Less common side effects that have happened with SINGULAIR include (listed alphabetically):

agitation including aggressive behavior, allergic reactions (including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat, which may cause trouble breathing or swallowing), hives, and itching, bad/vivid dreams, increased bleeding tendency, bruising, diarrhea, drowsiness, hallucinations (seeing things that are not there), hepatitis, indigestion, inflammation of the pancreas, irritability, joint pain, muscle aches and muscle cramps, nausea, palpitations, pins and needles/numbness, restlessness, seizures (convulsions or fits), swelling, trouble sleeping, and vomiting.

Rarely, asthmatic patients taking SINGULAIR have experienced a condition that includes certain symptoms that do not go away or that get worse. These occur usually, but not always, in patients who were taking steroid pills by mouth for asthma and those steroids were being slowly lowered or stopped. Although SINGULAIR has not been shown to cause this condition, you must tell your doctor right away if you get one or more of these symptoms:

a feeling of pins and needles or numbness of arms or legs
a flu-like illness
rash
severe inflammation (pain and swelling) of the sinuses (sinusitis)
These are not all the possible side effects of SINGULAIR. For more information ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Talk to your doctor if you think you have side effects from taking SINGULAIR.

Your statement is 100 percent true . Dry mouth like you could not imagine , high blood pressure , swelling of the face and anxiety like crazy . Thank You for the info , I don't know why my doctor never mentioned any of these side effects . I thought it was rare that they were wanting to do blood work on me AGAIN after just recently having one . I'm done . I will modify my diet and continue working out at the gym .

I thought I was going to lose my mind. I would just start crying for NO reason.I became extremely irritable and depressed with thoughts of suicide. I am a very happy person normally!! I developed really bad eczema, hives on and off and random swelling of the face and headaches. Not quite sure these are side effects but am going to find out. I went off of this 3 days ago and already feel more like myself again. Maybe it's just knowing that Im not crazy and that it's the hormones!! Thanks everyone for posting. You helped me figure this out!!

My healthy sixteen year old daughter was prescribed Bactrim twice daily for acne on the 7th and began a full course on the 8th of April. Agressively preparing for a solo competition on clarinet, we did not get too concerned when she complained of some shortness of breath and neck stiffness and tightness at the base of her skull on the 13th. On the 14th she had some difficulty with hand and finger coordination. By late evening of the 16th she had developed an oral temp. of 101.3 F, was complaing of severe fatigue, had swollen and painful lymph glands at the base of her skull and under her jaw. When she awoke on the 17th after a fitful night, she had a red, raised, itchy rash from head to toe, swelling of the face, neck, and hands and a sensation of burning everywhere her clothing touched her skin. Her eyes were glazed and red. The Bactrim was discontinued. While some of the symptoms now are very slowly dissapating, she continues to complain or lethargy and dizziness, sleeping more than awake. Perhaps, needless to say, she bombed at her competition on the 15th. Sad, since she had been preparing for months. Thanks so much, Bactrim. We pray there are no lasting side effects that others have experienced.

Tips while taking this medication:

1. Sit up for at least an hour after taking doxycycline. And always with at least 8oz of water, 16oz is better. This will help with the majority of stomach discomfort. Take on an empty stomach. If you have any nausea, consult with your doctor or pharmacist BEFORE you opt to take this medication with food. DO NOT TAKE WITH MILK (See item 4.)
2. Suncreen is suggested, minimum of SPF 50, your pharmacologist can assist you with the selection during your consult. If they don't voluntarily consult you on this drug, find a new pharmacy. You can get sunburn even in your house depending on the sun's direction. Any stinging on the skin is a good clue to apply sunscreen and move out of the sunlight.
3. Do not take any form of antacid or vitamin within four hours unless directed otherwise.
4. Doxycycline is a tetracycline, therefore avoid dairy products. This includes cheese and yogurt. You can render the medication totally inactive by cosuming dairy. This can result in your infection not being cleared, superinfection or resistant organisms.
5. If you have recently taking a *cillin type antibiotic, be sure to tell your doctor or pharmacist. Do not take concurrently with these type of antibiotics unless your doctor tells you to do so.

If you develop hives, swelling of the face or throat, shortness of breath contact your doctor or pharmacist right away. These side effects are very rare, but can be serious.

Most side effects from this drug can be avoided by following these simple steps.

It was comforting to read the stories from patients whom have the same issues with the prednisone as myself to assure me I AM NOT CRAZY. I am 43 years old and have severe asthma. Just this past April I was hospitalized for a week with asthma and was given so much steriods via shots, pills and IV drip that I have gained 25 lbs since April 16. Have swelling of the face, facial hair, swollen legs and a bloated belly. I cannot take it any more. I do not feel attractive and am in constant pain from the carpal tunnel I have developed in my hands, wrist and arms. I wish there was some way to return back to my normal active life and my normal body.

My son was put on singular a few weeks ago. He lost 6 lbs in a month. There is no reason for that. He was on a trial period for a month and no longer has any pills left. I don't think I want him to go back on them! He is 6 and not very big to begin with and has lots of of ther problems. I don't want the singular to make them worse.

I had a severe reaction to Fluconazole. First time use from usually using diflucan. Rash, swelling of the face and extreme itching. I had to use benedryl.

I have been on prednisone since end of February/05. 50 mg for a few months then down eventually to 20, had to go back up to 30, symptoms all came back.muscle weakness , and since I already have that with Dermatomyositis, it was a little confusing if it was helping at all.

Weight gain , moderate, but definite swelling of the face. Acid reflux a problem, hair loss.

A little discouraging, but necessary. I am now at 15 mg and going down to go off. Plaquenil has been prescribed and I have been on that for 2 months. Not really seeing improvement but have to get off Prednisone.Far too scary! Hopefully I am able to stay off it! I have always been a relatively healthy woman and I want my life back!

I got on this site just to see if all the side effects I am having since starting Advair is my imagination and now I hate to say, I see it is not. I was scared to death to start this steroid because I have taken steroid's off and on my whole life for my asthma. I have ended up with a depressed immune system and in the hospital every few months when on them and they have a lingering effect sometimes for up to a year or more.
My Respiratory specialist assured me, that being an inhaled steroid, Advair has a very very minimal systemic effect. Well obviously that is not true for everyone! I am having just about all of the side effects that a lot of the other of you are having. Even though, I rinse my mouth out carefully after each inhalation. I am on the 500/50 dose. I have been on it only 2 weeks. I can't quit eating! I crave something constantly and have already gained about 7 pounds this last two weeks. My face is breaking out and I have pain so bad in my hands, fingers, and legs. I have fibromyalgia and arthritis also and have a lot of pain, but this is different and much worse!
My eye sight seems to be getting worse, and I can't even see to read well with my glasses. I too am very disapointed because as far as my asthma, it is much better and I could see a difference from the very first inhalation. I am due for a dose right now, and I am not taking it. I am done. The side effects are not worth the better breathing.
I have headaches, swelling of the face, hands, fingers, and legs. I have pain in my chest and I feel generally achy all over. I have also been feeling extra moody. These are steroid effects!!
