I was given 5 doses of Avelox for a bronchial infection along with an asthma inhaler (Symbicort). While taking the Avelox my hands were shaky, but not to an extent that it impeded my work (typing/computer operation, writing) or daily life. I did find it harder to concentrate and occasionally I would forget something I was about to do, which is not normal for me. I also found myself zoning out from time to time and having delayed reactions. I was still able to drive, but if you are just starting to take this medication, I recommend waiting to see how much your alertness is impaired before driving or doing anything that requires a lot of focus. After the 5 doses, I felt slightly better, but not as well as I expected. I asked the doctor about this and she said the antibiotics should stay in my system for up to two weeks and I should continue to feel better in that time. It's been a few days, and this seems to be true as I am feeling steadily better.

Once I came back to Buffalo to school and had taken my first allergy shot, my asthma flared up majorly, so my doctor put me on 10mg prednisone for 8 days, while at the same time putting me on Symbicort (and also at the same time, I have been taking 75mg Doxycycline for my skin issue), and it caused me to get thrush, even though I was rinsing my mouth after symbicort. I was given the impression by the P.A. I saw that taking Prednisone increases your chances of getting thrush. Has anybody else ever experienced this?

My daughter is 20 years old and a chronic asthmatic with severe allergies. She has been on Singulair for 8 years. She has been complaining and in some instances begging her asthma doctor for a reason for her insomnia and restless sleep over the last several years. She takes other asthma and allergy medications. He told her to not take her Xopenex inhaler before bed, as that may be causing the problem, that didn't help at all (sometimes a Xopenex nebulizer treatment is needed for her at bedtime and during the night, during asthma flair-ups). Her doctor just switched her from Allegra (which she has been on since she was 10) to Zyrtec, which is helping with allergies, but not with the sleeplessness. She was taken off of Advair and put on Symbicort in September 2007, this made her asthma worse requiring Prednisone off -and -on since January. She is back on Advair and doing better, but the sleepless nights continue...
We are seriously contemplating taking her off of the Singulair. We aren't 100% certain this medication is causing her insomnia/sleeplessness. However, as she explains it..."If I could get one really good nights sleep, I would go off of the Singulair in a heartbeat". Our fear is that by going off of the Singulair that her asthma will worsen.

I had been on singular for 10 months and have gained 40 lbs. and retention of water in my calves and ankles. I spoke to my doctor but that fell on deaf ears. He told me that they are not side effects of singular. My eating habits are the same, if anything I have never eat better due to the weight. I had been thin all my life - maybe too skinny. I am 49 years old. Also, due to the weight and water retention I have started a health club with no weight loss. I went off the singular 3 weeks ago, my calves are back to normal, but still have the 40 lbs. Anyone have any advised. MK

My daughter is a chronic asthmatic and has been on Prednisone for over one year. Since then she has experienced headaches, nausea, sleeplessness, depression, extreme anxiety, mood swings, blurred vision, aching... just about all of the side effects listed. Of particular concern to me are the mood swings, which at this time we are considering having her evaluated. I didn't realize that this drug could do soo much in terms of her behavior. Please help me to understand what is going on with her. She is 12 years old.

I started taking Symbicort 4 weeks ago. I'm an active person, eat well and I'm in good shape. I caught a cold a week after taking symibort. It seems that as my cold got better, I didn't feel like I could breathe any easier. Since I starte taking it, I've been real fatigued. I wake up very tired and I'm sleepy all day. I stopped taking it yesterday. I fell better today. I went back on Advair until I can see the Doctor to try another medicane.

My son was prescribed Advair for his asthma a week ago. He has been having leg cramps so bad, his legs buckle on him. Dr said it's not because of Advair, but after reading this site, I'm taking him off Advair immediately.

I am 48 yrs old and have been on Advair 500/50 for a little over three years now and although it helped my asthma dramatically in the beginning, everyone around me has commented on the crazy mood swings I have been experiencing for the past two years. I have also developed a very persistent case of thrush in my mouth/throat that never seems to go away-the doctor keeps on asking me if I rinse my mouth and it's starting to get annoying because I'd be an idiot not to rinse out my mouth-I even gargle, but the thrush keeps coming back! Also,my throat always feel tight-I frequently feel like I'm choking and I get hoarseness that interferes with the important thing like reading a book to my son. Recently, I have started bruising very easily. Everytime I mention all these things to my doctor she says that I should stay on the Advair and disregards my complaints about the side-effects. I would really like to stop using it, but I stopped once for Three weeks and I had a really bad bout of tightness in my chest and shortness of breath-any suggestions on how to get off it and what I can do instead?? I forgot to mention that I have gained weight and even dieting won't get the weight off-I am very active and exercise, but the weight stays.

Greetings - I have been taking Singulair for just over one week - since I have moved to a different town my asthma has been really bad - I have been visiting hospital once a week and using Flovent and Ventalin. I have not had a problem with asthma (except occassionally from exercise or cold air) for over 10 years. I am not or have not been on any drugs (not even aspirin) ecxept ventalin (only about a dozen puffs a year) for many many years. Since I have started the sungulair as well as symbicort inhaler I have been able to breath fine (first time in 4 months), however I have had extreme cramping in hands and feet and constant backache in lower back. My whole body is weak and sore and I am feeling fuzzy headed. It cannot be a coincidence, unless it is the symbicort, it must be the singulair!

I'm a 38 year old male who has had asthma, allergies, and bronchitis ever since I was a small child. I've tried many different medicines and steroids over the past decades to try an control my asthma. I recently was introduced to Singulair by my doctor, and in the first 2 weeks I had no symptoms and my asthma was miraculously controlled. However, after those first initial 2 weeks I started showing some serious symptoms; nausea, joint stiffness, dizziness, lack of energy, dehydration. But the worst side effect is the MIGRAINES! I used to suffer from migraines in the past (about 4 per year that would each last about 2-3 days max.). Now I have had a migraine for the past 10 days, and if you've ever had a migraine before then you would know how crippling it is. I was waking in the night because the headaches were so bad. I put this solely on the Singulair because I am not taking any other medication except Ventolin (which I have used since I was 5), and I've juggled my diet trying to see if it was a food reaction but it wasn't. I have stopped taking the Singulair for 3 days and counting, but I still have my migraine, I know it takes some time to get it out of my system. Originally I was excited to see the Singulair working but now I can't wait until its gone, its made my life hell. I will go back on to SYMBICORT because it did help manage my asthma, and most importantly; it didn't suffer any side effects from it.

For those of you who cannot use Singulair due to sore joints or behavior changes I would recommend Symbicort. Its a type of inhaler, but slightly different. It is rather expensive, but it definitely gets the job done without any side effects I've seen, heard of, or experienced.

Severe numbness in lower arms and legs throughout night, chronic giant urticaria, systemic thrush with constant dry, itchy and inflamed mouth and throat. Severe hot flushes. At one point, I had 4 months off work as at times my joints swelled after urticaria attacks to the po0int where i couldn't walk or move my wrists etc. Acute pain, sickness, excessive mucus and more. I take 2x2 Symbicort per day, plus 8x2 ventolin per day.I also have severe water retention, weight gain and bloatedness. My worst symtoms kicked off after taking diclofenic acid (volterol) for back pain. I had never previously had any side effects with short term use of volterol, but I had previously been on becotide and sabutamol inhalers. Once starting on Symbicort, all other mediction, even paracetomol have resulted in severe and unpleasant side effects. Has anyone else had anything like this?

I've just started taking the 10 mg pill for two days. I've noticed incredible chest tightness the day after taking the first pill (almost like too much caffeine). I've had very unusual dreams, and leg twitching. I feel like i'm in a zombie state (this is the second day). I have been taking Symbicort for around a week now and have had no such experiences on that drug. I am wondering if this is all comming from Singulair? I've noticed such a change just by the second day on it, and none of those changes reflect improvements!
If this is true I don't recommend it for anyone. If anyone knows if this is true, let me know!

I have had COPD for years and treated with daily prednisone and Foradil but I wanted to come off prednisone so used Symbicort and Spiriva and was doing good until a new doctor put me on Advair 250/50 and my body went to h... I had terrible bronchitis with hacking cough for 5weeks, noise when on exhaling, severe leg pain, blurred vision, flu like symptoms and harder to breathe. Came off off Advair and felt better the next day. Saw another doc who yelled at me for stopping it but by the weekend I couldn't walk 5feet and this was using my oxygen machine. Stopped Advair and saw my regular doc so I'm back to my original meds and recovering. Yes, I think doctors get a kick-back and yes, there should be a class action suit.
