I am so sorry to hear that you ladies have experienced such issues w/ Mirena. I feel very fortunate, My Mirena was placed 18 months ago and I've had an excellent result, I didn't find the insertion to be painful at all, maybe a tad uncomfortable. Could it be the skill level of the doctor inserting it maybe? I did bleed for the first 2 weeks, but since then I'm lucky if I spot for an hour every month. I still get pms symptoms each month, but they're mild, like blasting, increased appetite, tired, even cramps here and there. Long term, I haven't experienced a weight gain...I might have gained 5lbs. at most in the beginning, but it came right off once the Mirena had been in placed for a little while. Really, I feel extremely thankful and wish everyone could have my same results. Prior to having my child. I had used many pill birth controls, now those had horrendous effects for me. The only one effect I could say that I've had is maybe a decrease in sex drive, but nothing too drastic. I have an 18 month old, so there's not much time for it anyway. Long story short, my experience w/ Mirena has been a very good one.

I have had the Mirena for about 3 years now, I first started having noticeable symptoms about 6 months ago. I started having panic attacks out of left field. I am a very happy person, with a good life so I could not understand what was going on with me. I thought I was going crazy. My daughter had to go with my mother for about 2 weeks as I didn't want her to see me the way I was: having panic attacks, paranoia, depression, crying fits. I was put on celexa to help these problems. It worked for the panic attacks, but I'm still moody and can only sleep if I take a 2.0mg of klonopin. I have never had these problems before. I cannot say it was the mirena, but I doubt I have any other reason for it. I recently started getting really bad cystic acne on my face, chest, back, and even on my scalp. I have gained about 25 pounds and cannot get it off for the world. I only have one daughter and a lot of help from my husband and my mother, so I can't understand the feelings of fatigue that plague me. I have a horrible year. Just the anxiety and panic attacks alone have changed me completely. I thought I was abnormal and sometimes just wanted to die. I do feel better, but as I read, I wonder if taking it out will help with the weight, acne and fatigue as my other problems seem to have just vanished after only 2 weeks on celxa, which I thought strange but was thankful nonetheless. I spoke with my doctor today about removal and she gave me a rx for the acne and said we should think about it.... I think I'm all thought out.....

It has been a month now since I had it removed and I am feeling much better but STILL not 100%. My joint and muscle aches had almost all disappeared, and I have more energy. My skin has cleared up nicely and my breast are back to their original size with no more pain!! I haven't had a period yet but I am sure it will take some time. Saw the dr today and I am down 2 lbs, which is great and my lifestyle habits have not changed a bit. Hopefully the other 15 or 20 lbs will go AWAY sooner than later!! I am still a tad moody but my dr said it will still take time to have this thing completely out of my system, so I'll keep you posted! All in all I am SOOOO glad that I got it removed. I only wish I didn't wait so long to feel half-normal again!!

I had my mirena inserted one year ago, july 7th, 2008. I had it removed July 6th 2009 and I thank god that I did. This past year has been a blur. Headaches, weight gain of nearly 20lbs, acne, especially on my chin, greasy hair, puffy bloatedness, constipation, sudden fits of anger, back aches, lower back aches, lethargic, no energy, full body and joint pains and aches insomnia, bad dream, moodiness, depression, extremely sore breasts. ALL since I had this introduced into my body. I am hoping that things will improve. So far this past week I feel a tad better but still have no energy and, of course, the weight hasn't fallen off, but I am hoping that PUFFY look goes away as I continue to eat properly and exercise daily. I will keep you posted as to how I am feeling, week to week.

I took Imuran for 3 weeks....150mg/day....started week one with only 50mgs/day, week 2 100mg and then in week 3 got up to the 150mg/day.

Then the aches and pains began....fevers on and off ....and then finally high fevers and rigors ultimately ended up in the hospital in Boston for 4 days.
All of the test pointed to Imuran side effects which caused the fevers etc.

I have been diagnosed with CIDP....and my neuro wanted to put me on a tad more aggressive treatment plan in addition to the IVIg treatment which I am on every 3 weeks, 5x/week. Infusions take almost 3 hors a day...40grams of Gammaguard daily for the 5 days.

I have been on YAZ for a month & one week. So far, the only thing I experienced was sadness, but every now & then, over normal things, but just a tad bit more often. Like my grandma passing & such. But, last night my boyfriend & I tried to have sex, but I couldn't get wet. I think that may be from the pill? If so, there's no point in being on it, Why have a birth control when you can't even have sex?

I have been on Loestrin 24 Fe for about 2 months now and I haven't really had any problems per se. I had my first period after starting the pill for only 3-4 days and it was very light. I started taking it in the middle of the month since my ob/gyn told me not to wait until my next period since we didn't know when that would come considering I just had a baby in June. So far I've only had one day of spotting at an unusual time, no cramps at all, my face a cleared up considerably, no facial hair and just a tad bit of weight gain (like 5lbs.) which I don't think is from the pill. Although I am concerned considering I'm about 10 days late for my period and I've taken a pregnancy test and it was negative. I also have noticed an EXTREME decline in my sex drive. I guess I'll stick with it and hope it gets a little better.

I think it is interesting the symptoms that you mention here. I have been on birth control pills since the age of 19. I am now 28. Over the past year I have had similar symptoms. I have been on so many different BCP's that is is hard to keep count. They don't seem to work the way they claim to. The last BCP I was on was orthotryciclen. While taking these I began to experience severe heart palpitations. So bad that they would wake me up at night. Because I wasn't sure if it was an anxiety attack or just being in my head I decided to ignore it. Four months passed by and it seemed to get increasingly worse. I had enough and decided to go to my PCP. She wasn't really much help either. Although I was tested for Mitral Valve Prolapse, which I was told affects younger women my age. There was nothing found. What I thought was interesting is I really felt that it was the birth control pills, but I couldn't find it as a side affect on the information that was provided in the box. The tech who was doing my echocardiogram began to tell me she also experienced the same feelings and found out it was her BCP. Once she confirmed what I thought was right, decided to stop taking them. After three months the symptoms began to disappear. I figured it was just the particular brand. I began to take loestrin 24. I started to feel the same symptoms again, just not as severe. I would feel my heart beat when I would like down in my back and my stomach. My heart rate would reach 90 to 100 sometimes. I know this is not normal. When I visited my gyno yesterday she told me it was impossible that it was a result of the BCP. Maybe it was just anxiety and or perhaps I should get checked out by a cardiologist. That is serious stuff when you are talking to a young person about getting there heart check out. I think if there are any other women out there who are experiencing any similar symptoms should speak up. So these doctors won't keep telling us it is all in our heads and help to take care of this problem.

Hello all,
I'm a 45-yr old Air Force Major (Male) recently diagnosed with asymptomatic chronic Atrial Fibrillation (As in I have it and was walking around not knowing it). When I went to see the cardiologist, my B.P. was only 120 / 74 (Which, until they changed the rules, used to be normal)and he puts me on Diovan 80mg once a day plus Coumadin 5mg. Well the Diovan almost made me faint and I had numbness in both arms, plus a funky rash, kind of like chicken pox showing up on my arms and thighs.
I went online and read horror stories of Diovan so I stopped taking it immediately (I had only taken four doses and never had any horrible symptoms until after I took the meds!). Then the Dr. put me on an Event Monitor and it showed I was indeed in A-fib all the time, plus at night, my heart was racing briefly to 200 a minute while I was sound asleep. So he puts me on Toprol XL 100mg once a day.
Immediately I had trouble sleeping (Which I never had before, ever!) with crazy dreams and tossing/turning. My B.P. dropped to 88/65 and my fibrillating heart rate was 64!!! I was so mad because I actually felt better before the meds. I found this site and saw what everyone was posting and immediately took myself off the Toprol XL.
The day after stopping the Toprol I had slight chest pains (Like angina or gas bubble) but they went away on their own. I slept fine the next night.
I'm having an Electro-Cardiversion done on the 21st July to see if I can stop the A-fib and get in normal rhythm. I know the Dr. is going to be mad at me for stopping the Diovan and Toprol, but I'm sorry, I'm convinced there is a better way to beat all this (Namely exercise and eating right). Being in the service means you have to be Mr. Physical and Mental "perfect" all the time. I cannot afford to be diagnosed with depression in my line of work! Thanks to all on this website and I wish you the best.
PS. for those who think I'm being ignorant of my medication, I have a nice fat insurance policy and Power of attorney for my wife and kid in the event I keel over!!! I may be medication intolerant but at least I took care of my family.

I am a divorced mother of 5 minor children and I had my Mirena inserted 5.5 years ago due to heavy and painful periods. The thing stopped my periods, stopped the pain and made feel a free person again without worrying about staining my cloths and having to take days off.
I had the most wonderful 5 years physiology wise. My body responded great but.........my mood swings.....oyvei.
When it was due to come out, last August, the doc could not find the string, he poked, and poked and poked. Two docs tried to find it, to no avail. So they scheduled me to do an outpatient removal with the help of an anesthesiologist who would put me under for the few minutes it would take,
I was franctic.
As a last resort, I decided to wait, passed the due date, to see if my periods would return and get my cervix a bit softer or expel the string, or whatever was left of it after 5 years. I did and we tried again, the doctor said he would poke around a bit and it may hurt. He poked for 30 seconds and said 'here is that sucker!!' and he pulled it out. No pain, nothing.
I feel so happy now that I don't have a strange thing inside of me, but I am concerned about side effects post removal. So far, it's been a week and nothing other than a small bleeding that is fading away and a tad of a somewhat recurrent backache.
Should I expect side effects as days go by?

i just posted a few days ago about cramping and spotting after the second week or so of being on this pill. it has been 5 days and the spotting has changed from a brownish color, to a blackish color, and it is now looking liek just regular red blood, but there's only a little. sometimes the bleeding/spotting gets a tad bit heavy, but it never leaks through dry liners that i wear. i am a very bad hypochondriac and although my boyfriend always pulls out on time and i take the pill everyday at or around the same time, i keep thinking i could be pregnant. can an aspirin like ibuprofen or cold medicine decrease the protection? i haven't been able to get a hold of my doctor and any information would help.

I was just given the NuvaRing to try yesterday, I did not even last 24 hours! Literally 4 hours after I put it in, my eye started to twitch, constantly. I started have chest pain and pressure, almost like when you have bronchitis. My legs felt crampy, my back hurt, I couldn't sleep, and I had the worst headaches. Seriously. I hoped it would pass by morning, but no luck, so I called the GYNO and she said to remove it and wait to see if the symptoms go away. I removed it this afternoon, and this evening, I am still feel crappy, but at least a tad better.

I read and re-read the Nuvaring packaging looking for my side effects, and there were none. I am so disappointed with this. It was the worst experience I have ever had with birth control!

In August of this year, we started giving my son 4 mg of Singulair daily for his asthma and seasonal allergies. We just found out about the connection between hyperactivity and Singulair the other day and now everything makes sense. This fall, we noticed his activity level jumped up several notches, he couldn't seem to sit still anymore and would be bouncing off the walls from morning to night. He was pretty high energy before but this was VERY VERY high energy. He could barely sit still to eat meals. He became quite dramatic and tantrums became common - he wasn't the easy-going kid he used to be. And he started waking up in the middle of the night, sometimes sobbing, where previously he had always been a very sound sleeper.

Three days ago we learned about these possible hyper side effects of Singulair and two nights ago we stopped giving it to him. Last night he sat down and actually ate a good dinner with us. This morning, he seemed a tad bit calmer. We are hoping the rest of the effects will go away soon. Needless to say - no more Singulair for him. We'll find other ways to deal with his allergies and asthma.

Back from the RE:

We discussed many forms of birth control (none of which appeal to me) and he agreed bcps are not for me do to my reactions to them. He did question my correlating the YAsmin to my anxiety and said if that were the case I should've been like that from the first month on them. I quickly informed him of many of you here and asked that he not jump to conclusions just because the FDA; the warnings in the Yasmin pill pack and his Medical Journals all say that it DOESN'T cause us to be this way. He quickly let that go!

I was FINE before Yasmin. I was energetic, happy, and went with the flow of my hectic life with kids and an at home business. Then BAM I turn into a whole other person with serious issues mentally and emotionally and NOTHING in my personal life changed to cause this. How can anyone not conclude it a pill full of hormones?!!!!

He reluctantly prescribed me Xanax to get me through the next couple of weeks but said he would NOT prescribe me a refill. Which I said was fine because I really dont want to take anything but I can't just keep trying to make it through the day with my kids and me feeling so horrific.

Each day I feel a TAD better; what I wouldn't give for that magic wand to make it all better in a poof. I signed up for a 'Mind, Body & Spirit" (some sort of Yoga) class on Saturday and Wednesday so I am hoping that helps as well.

Enough of my lengthy reply! Hope everyone here continues to improve; all be it slowly. Everyday that passes is a another day we can all be 'us' again.

Denise

Post your symptoms since stopping Yasmin!!!

Hey everyone it's Kay21 here and I just wanted to post my 3 month off Yasmin update. Because stopping the pill is a hard decision, I figured we should all post are updates here to help/support those who are planning to stop or who have recently stopped Yasmin.

I have been off of Yasmin since April 17. As some of you already know, I was experiencing horrible side effects while on Yasmin for 3 years (particularly stomach problems, vaginal dryness, muscle cramps, increased blood pressure and heart rate and anxiety).

The first 1 month off of Yasmin was okay. In fact, I felt the best I had ever felt in a while. My blood pressure and heart rate decreased and the migraines and muscle cramps went away. But when I hit the 2 month (8 week) mark, I felt HORRIBLE. I was severely depressed and anxious. I was crying all the time and felt a severe sense of DOOM! The physical symptoms also started to become problematic. The acne increased and I started growing more facial hair. The worse symptom, however, was that I started losing a ton of hair. I would lose stray hairs all day (probably about 200 a day). Since I have hit the three month mark, the hair loss has gotten MUCH WORSE! Now I am losing CLUMPS of hair all day. I have seen several doctors about this. Some say it's because of stress and a few (a derm, GYN and endo) say that hiar loss is common after stopping bcp. I have already loss about 1/3 of my hair.

I am also really concerned, because I have not had a period since April 22. So my doctor has put me on provera for 10 days to induce a period.

For those who have stopped Yasmin, what have your symptoms been (i.e. increased acne, weight gain, anxiety, etc.). Has anyone experienced hair loss? How long did it take to get a period???

Thanks...

Hi All!

Well, it's been just a tad over two weeks since taking myself off of the Lipitor that I was on for four months. I'm now experiencing mostly the "normal" aches and pains that I had before....such as the typical "I'm 52 so here comes the osteo arthritis" syndrome I've always heard about.

No more trembling, shaking, super bad weakness, dizziness and that totally random shooting pains here and there.

I can attest beyond reasonable doubt that those symptoms were from the side effects of Lipitor. I'm only hoping that I haven't suffered any permanent nerve damage due to this very dubious Statin drug.
