I am 45 years old. I get the impression many of the ladies here are younger, as they speak of having younger children, so I will tell my side from a bit more "mature" (ie older!) perspective:

Had Mirena for a little over 9 months. My two MAIN side effects were a development of terrible cystic acne on my face, back, shoulders, hairline, behind my ears and straight down my spine, ending in a nice lovely rash just above my tailbone. These things were deep, solid knots under the skin, not average little pimples. Worse acne I've ever had, and at my age too!

Second, profuse sweating under my breasts and lower back, again just at my tailbone, right above my butt. After drying off from a shower, I'd run my hand back there and still feel soaked. This did not seem related to hot flashes. Just sweating, and I think that contributed to the acne, which was beginning to leave scars it was so deep.

I do feel like I gained weight, my pants were much tighter and I just felt bloated all the time.

Fortunately, no hair loss or emotional side effects. I've had anxiety for years and take Ativan (lorazepam) which keeps it pretty much under control. No loss of sex drive either. It seems there are a distinct set of side effects, and some get them in different combination than others, but we're ALL getting them one way or the other!

OBGYN said as the Mirena is only progesterone, I was missing the estrogen which were the 2 components of the pill I took for years with no trouble. He gave me a Rx for a low dose of estrogen. Now I am getting what I had in the pill in 2 separate forms, and having these awful side effects on top of it. It didn't help.

So I had Mirena removed 6 days ago. Luckily he found the strings, told me to cough, and pulled it out, no pain! I immediately went back on Alesse BC pill that same day, so no break in hormones, but I handled the BC pill fine all those years, so I"m just going back on it. Have been bleeding ever since removal, but I figure that is just my body "getting back at me" for not having periods for months. My first real one, due in about 3 weeks following the pill schedule will probably be the period from hell. Ok, I accept that. My uterus wants to get this poison toxic mess out of me, and I'm ok with that.

I'm crossing my fingers that I will miss the "crash" I've read so much about. As it seems to be mostly psychological, and I didn't have those side effects to begin with, maybe it won't be so bad, or at all. Of course that could just be wishful thinking on my part! So far, 6 days of having it out of me and I already feel 100% better! My face cleared up in a matter of days. The sweating stopped immediately. My pants are looser, although I still weigh the same. The bloated feeling is gone. I just feel thinner. Before, my profile in the mirror looked like I was 4 months pregnant! That too is going down quick. Good luck to all who have it removed. Things can only get better!

And don't let any doctor tell you you can't have it out! It's your body! You can demand whatever you want, especially if you feel like it is making you sick! Do not take no for an answer. You don't even owe them an explanation. Just a "Sorry, it's not for me..." at the most.

Good luck to all....

I was given a shot of Rocephin and oral penicillin about 2 months ago. I have been allergic to Penicillin all my life, but my Dr decided to give it to me because I had strep throat so bad and it kept coming back. We had hoped that my allergy had miraculously gone away! With in a day, I got the worst heartburn I've ever had (and I have a hiatal hernia and esophogitis, so I'm pretty familiar with heartburn) and my shoulders were killing me. I got hives on my chest and face (no doubt from the penicillin) and my urine was bright orange. I called my Dr and told him of the symptoms and he said, must be the penicillin and put me on a z-pack. Now, another separate episode...Last week, I developed urinary tract infection symptoms and called my Dr. He gave me Bactrum and I got worse, running fever, blood in my urine, kidney pain, disorientation... etc. So I went to see the doctor and he gave me a shot of Rocephin, and oral Cipro. My urinary symptoms seemed to get better that evening and the next morning. Around 9 am I started getting a slight cramping feeling in my abdomen near my belly button. It quickly spread to my upper abdominal area and into my shoulders and upper back and the pain was so severe I was doubled over screaming like a woman giving birth to a 10 lb baby with no drugs! This pain intensified and lasted for 2 hours. My brother took me to the ER but by the time the Dr saw me, the pain had subsided. They ran blood work, and did an ultra sound and found nothing. Go figure! I even told the nurse I had been given a shot of Rocephin and that last time I had it, I had the above mentioned symptoms (orange pee...etc) While I was in the hospital, my lower back... close to my tailbone started hurting, so I figured I might have pulled something when I was having that 2 hour spaz attack. Well by that evening, I can't walk and I have pains radiating down my butt and leg. The location of where I received the shot is pretty much on fire, and sensitive to the touch. I don't know what's going on here, but I'm 100% blaming the shot of Rocephin and it makes me mad that my doctor, nor the ER doctor can put 2 and 2 together, but I have to figure it out on my own. What am I paying them for?

I began Topamax in August after 6 months of ongoing severe migraines. They stopped immediately. My DR had warned me of weight loss but I thought who cares? I weighed 130 at the time. I have had a fatigue problem for years so I really can't attribute that to Topamax. I did become very sick (exhaustion-couldn't get out of bed) after Christmas and had my DR take my ANA which was 1280 (high). I have also experienced hair loss but I did not find that on the "side effects". I called the hot line to see if there were other reports of affected the ANA count and they had no data on this. Has anyone else had this experience? Meanwhile, it is 8 months later, I am down to 96 lbs and worried, have lost all fat & muscle - no migraines!

I've been on the NuvaRing for about a year now, with no side effects. I switched from the pill because all of my hair fell out, so I switched to the ring. However, for the last 2 months, I've had SEVERE BACK PAIN which has almost caused me to be bed ridden. It feels like my spinal cord, by my tail bone, is curling under. It hurts to laugh, cough, walk, you name it. For anyone else experiencing this, you're not alone.

This is a horrific story but must be read for those who may want to EVER use this drug. I am a 26 year old female who has had some fatigue/headache problems for the past two years. In an attempt to alleviate some of the symptoms associated with the headaches (burning, tingling, hairloss). So, the doctor administered seven small injections of 3-1 dilluted Kenalog into the top of my scalp. After two weeks I started to notice small indentations at the injection sites. After a month I started to feel painful sore spots all over my head; they were actually raw and bright red. It felt as though someone had placed a hot curling iron on my scalp and left it there! I notified my Dr. who said there were no known side effects with dilluted measures and it couldn't be the cause of it?? So, I waited a few more weeks only to notice that the seven injection sites were now large bald spots where the hair completely stopped growing and then just fell out. There are now VERY deep crater-like formations in my scalp that are tender to the touch that are getting worse and may never go away. The injection actually ate away at the skull! This has been a horrific experience and all my doctor can say is, "Sorry." One thing I want to post is this...yes, this is hugely unfortunate and we are all dealing with some major symptoms here but we are not alone. You know what they say about "power in numbers" so there may be a class-action suit on the way...this is not acceptable so don't let your doctor tell you it is nothing!

I have found that I get really emotional, moody, and I get a sharp pain around where my ovaries are occaisionally. I also get a severe pain during the week it is out - near my tailbone. I have found taking a daily multi-vitamin helps with the emotions, but I am still sleepy all the time, and I only want sex about once or twice a month - for a newly wed, this is ridiculous! I am bad about taking pills, so I thought this would be a great solution, but the side effects aren't worth it I think. I am talking to my doctor tomorrow.

Hi, I had a really bad sinus infection and the doctor put me on Sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 tabs.
I've been taking it for four days. The second day when I woke up I had red dots all over me. They eventually went away. I can't hardly sit because my tailbone hurts so bad. (It wasn't sore at all before the medication) Persistent sweats, jitters, headache, goosebumps. I absolutely don't feel any better than I did the day I went to the doctor.

I've been on Yasmin for about 4 months. Since being on it, the week after my period, I've noticed a lot of rectal discomfort. I've also had a lot of discomfort around the area of my tailbone (feels like I'm sitting on a marble).

The rectal discomfort improves around week 2 of my cycle.

Any information as to whether these problems could be from the Yasmin. I've previously not experienced any problems similar to these prior to going on Yasmin.

Thanks!

My neurologist prescribed Neurontin for post-herpatic neuralgia (the pain after shingles). I'm supposed to be taking 2400mg a day, but am only taking 1800mg because the side effects are so bad. I have very bad coordination, dizziness to the point of falling over, spaciness, slurred speech, weird vision problems - its like my eyes forget to focus, my husband says I'm staring off into space alot too. I am a professor, and find that I can't remember words or key concepts while I'm teaching. I can't drive, so my husband has to drive me everywhere. In addition, I've been having very strange thoughts, such as that I am going to purposely crash the car, or that my cat is going to attack me. It is very frightening and I'd like to go off the medicine, but I know it can induce seizures if you go cold turkey. Is this really our only alternative? Either live in unendurable pain, or suffer from Neurontin?

I was prescribed 300 mg. x 3 per day of neurontin a month ago for tailbone/nerve pain. By the third day, I noticed my leg felt like it was asleep. This has progressed over the past month to the point where now my left leg is tingling and numb and sometimes my left arm is the same way. Could this be the neurontin?

I can' deal with the spaciness, light headedness, and weird dreams, but this numbness/tingling feeling is driving me crazy. Should I stop the neurontin? Anybody else have this?
