My daughter is 5 years old and has kidney disease. She started taking Lisinopril over a hear ago, 1mg/day to control proteinuera. About 10 weeks ago, they increased her dose to 2 mg/day to control her BP. This is the only med she takes. She seemed to be fine with the increased dosage. A week ago, she woke in the middle of night screaming that bugs were crawling on her. We thought she was having a bad dream but she was very coherent. She went to the bathroom, drank water, listened to a book and conversed with us. She was not at all unresponsive like kids are when having night terrors. Yet, she continued to see spiders and bees and was terrified for a couple hours. Our daughter does not take a pill, her med is compounded in a liquid and we thought the pharmacist might have mixed it improperly. We lowered her dose for three nights until the pharmacist could get us a new batch. She continued to wake up each night seeing bugs but her fear was not as great. She would still be up for a couple hours but she could force herself to think of other things and stop the hallucinations. She's extremely imaginative and my husband had recently taken her to see Bee Movie so we also wondered if she was just imagining these things. After getting the new bottle, she had a worse night. I should have called the pediatrician but I had a very busy day and didn't think of it. During the days my daughter was completely fine and happy. She had none of the reported side effects of Lisinopril. She could recount the events of the previous night and was beginning to worry about going to bed but she was her typical cheerful self. So, I gave her another dose of Lisinopril and that night was absolutely terrible for her and the rest of our family. She had severe hallucinations and thought bugs were everywhere and stinging her. For 40 minutes or so, it was impossible to redirect her attention. She was terrified even when our arms. It took about 3 hours, drinking lots of water, for her to calm down. I talked to our pediatrician again and he concurred that we should stop the Lisinopril. We did so and last night, she slept fine.

I was on Ortha Evra for almost 2 years. I really liked it. I liked the idea of not having to take a pill everyday, because I would always seem to forget, then have to double up the next day. The patch is small and I was able to wear a bikini, without it showing. I always kept it on the front because I was afraid that if I wore it on my butt, it would fall off without me noticing. It never once fell off. The only negative thing I did notice while I was using the patch is that I experienced heavier cramps and my sex drive started to decline after I was using it for about 6 months. But, all in all, I liked it.

I started NuvaRing on Thursday, June 15 2007 and Monday, November 5 was the final draw. I talked with my best friend and admitted to her that something was seriously wrong with me but I didn’t know what. I told my friend I need to talk to someone about how I’ve changed for the worst. Things has gotten so bad with me I actually thought I was Bipolar. So we did some research on NR and when I read the different stories I was blown away because I would have never linked what I was going through to NR.

I had no sex drive non-what so ever, the thought of my boyfriend touching me made me sick to my stomach. I would actually get into physical altercations with him which has never ever happened, my attitude had taken a turn for the worst, I would have thoughts of hurting people that made me angry, I had to wear a panty liner everyday because of the discharge, migraine headaches, pain in my right breast, nausea, abd cramping, feeling tired, waking up in night sweats, felt the need to be alone, and mood swings. Yesterday I called my Dr. and told her I need to get off NR ASAP so she said she would call me back but never did so I took it out for the final time last night. Before I start taking anything else my body will be free of any birth control until NR is totally out my system if this means slipping up and getting pregnant in the process then so be it, it will be a first for me anyway.

NuvaRing was wonderful and the thought of not having to take a pill everyday was even better but the side effects will make you become someone you don’t know and your life will take a turn for the worst and it will have you thinking you are loosing your mind. For those who had no side effects consider your selves lucky because I wouldn’t want anyone to experience what I’ve went through while on NR.

I started the NR in June of this year. I like the fact that I don't have to take a pill every morning; I found that to be my biggest problem with BC in the past. The ring only gives me a 3 day period at most. My boyfriend and I soon found out that it is a "barrier" with sex. Now every time we have sex, I take it out then replace it when we're done. My boobs grew almost a full cup size. The thing that has been concerning me lately is I have been experiencing hyper-sensitivity at the beginning of sex; and I think it has to do with where the ring is inside me. Has anyone else experienced this side effect? This is the one that really worries me. I am considering a new BC...I'll take a pill everyday to get rid of this pain!

Since getting the Mirena inserted in April of this year I've noticed a few changes in me. I've been just kind of out of it. I'm in college and that's not a good thing. I have a decreased libido, headaches all the time, pimples on my forehead, depression, etc. I've never had pimples in my life, so I know it's from that. I just feel like I'm in a fog or something. I want to get Mirena removed, but I don't want to take the chance of getting pregnant. I'm not good with remembering to take a pill or whatever, so I'm really at a loss.

Girls everywhere . I have one question and please you can reply in private or on here, whatever you like. Did any of the doctors that prescribed Yasmin to you ever give you a hormonal test? I have been going through really bad emotional mood swings for a white but did not have insurance so never really go myself checked out. So last month I went back to my home country and visited a gyno(where medicine is not so overpriced) who has been recommended to me by numerous people and he did a bunch of hormone tests on me concluded (by blood work) that I have a hormonal inbalance. Before the tests were done he obviously asked me a bunch of questions and I warned him that last time i had gone on a losely prescribed birth control(which is was suppose to be very low hormone dosage) I went practically nuts. After seeing my results and finding my inbalance he has prescribed Yasmin to me because apparently I have too much estrogen and other things I couldnt really understand because I am not a doctor but I think one of the things it does is to block some of these hormone from going to your brain. So My point after all this rambling is that ALL of our bodies are different and all birth controls are different and have different hormones which could drive a normal person insane with or without taking the pills SO my suggestion if you are having trouble with Yasmin is to get your hormone levels checked, Yasmin may be the devil to you but its probably because you dot need certain components that are in it or lack some. Get real tests done!

I'd really like to have my Mirena removed but as I've only had it since January, it wouldn't be cost effective and I really don't want to take a pill everyday again...any advice?

well...well...I am not too pleased with the Nuva Ring either. I have been on it only for about 6 months. I got on it because I didn't want to have to take a pill every day, and due to the fact of everything being said about the Patch I switched to this ring. Well.....I got it at a local clinic and there when you get more of your prescription they ask questions. I told them that I have absolutely NO....ZERO----0---- sex drive Ya, know it's pretty horrible, and disatisfying when your parents to whom are in their 50's are having more intercorse than me at 23....yes TWENTY THREE YEARS OLD! So....I have discharge really bad, they didn't give me anything at the clinic they just said "yes, that is a side effect." I told them that my sex drive has gone from like 5 days a week to maybe if me and my parenter are lucky( to which most of the time we are not.)once a month ONE TIME and I'M 23!!! I have gained weight. and...I sleep ALOT! So.....If you want to have to wipe out your panties, every time you use the bathroom due to your increased discharge, hide your panties when you are in the process of having intercourse and having no sex at all....go ahead!!!! Be my guest, because I'm going back on the pill.

I have been on Yasmin for 6 years (16-22 years old) except for about 15 months when I was pregnant and nursing. I did not get pregnant while taking the pill (and my son is a beautiful perfectly healthy 3 year old). I have been extremely happy with the pill. I had some discomfort and a very heavy period my first month, but that is why you have to take a pill for 3 months to find out how it will really work for you. It has helped with my acne, I have not gained weight, my anxiety is what it was before, and my headaches are what they were before.

Different pills will work for different women. The only way to know which will work for you is to give it a real chance = 3 months; especially if this is your first time taking hormones! As we all know all medications have side effects. We also have to remember that we are choosing to risk that the side effects will not outweigh our reason for wanting the medicine in the first place... to NOT get pregnant! Which is a huge thing for any of you who don't have kids. All I'm saying is don't let it make you miserable, but give a pill a chance. And if you gain a little weight for example would exercising a little kill you?

Ive been using NR since january. I got diagnosed with migranes about 2 years ago so when i started getting them frequently i figured id just go back to my doctor to find something else to help. Ive tried about 4 different pain killers inluding muscle relaxer shots, to try to ease muscle tension headaches. I love the ring because im horrible with remembering to take a pill every day! Ever since ive been on the ring ive been very upset i was really happy when i found this site. it showed me that i wasnt the only one feeling this. My migranes are so bad i cant keep my eyes open. I argue with my boyfriend more than ever because he tells me im too emotional and i cry too much. I dont know what to do because i want to be on something i dont have to remember to take everyday. I use to be on lo-overal.. it worked great but i have really good gag reflexes and the pill isnt coated so it would dissolve before you had time to swallow it! Now every time i take a pill i gag remembering what it was like to take lo-overal. It makes me sick thinking of it. Has any one ever tried the shot? Or does anyone else know of any other options besides pills? if so PLEASE let me know!

I have been on NR for 3 weeks now. My first thought was..."hey this is great, I don't have to remember to take a pill at the same time every day". But just after the first couple of days on NR I noticed that I was VERY moody. I feel constantly depressed and I am always tired. I also feel bloated and I have no drive to have sex with my husband. It sucks because now that I am a stay at home mom, I feel like I am not enjoying the time with my kids like I could be because I am so emotional and unmotivated. I think when it's time to take it out... it's not going back in. It's not worth feeling this way.

I started taking nuva ring for the second time about three months ago. It took away the cramps but instead added a whole new list of worries. I started getting extremely irritable and would anger at tiny little things. I was also extremely emotional and would cry about everything which I have never done in the past. I became very very depressed and my sex drive completely disappeared. It caused tons of problems with my relationships with people (especially my boyfriend) because of the irritability. I did not know that a birth control could have these side effects. Since taking the nuva ring out the irritability, crying and depression have completely gone away. The only thing I found positive about the nuva ring was that I lost weight (maybe from the depression?) and I didn't have to remember to take a pill everyday. Heck, I'll just take the pill.

I just recently found this site and am very thankful I did. Has anyone ever even heard of someone being prescribed 1000mg oral prednisone for 7 days, followed by 500 mg oral prednisone for 7 days for a one day occurance of optic neuritis. It happened to my father and he died 3 weeks later. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can help me make sense of this dosage.

I've been on the ring for two months, at first I loved it, but now I've noticing that the mood swings are terrible. I am a bit of an emotioanl person, but lately I've been HORRIBLE. I snap at my boyfriend for no reason, and I cry all the time. I think I'ts ruining my relationship with my boyfriend. I've also gained about 5 pounds since I started using it. I'm always craving sweets. I also get more headaches than I used to. I think I'll give it another month, but if the side effects continue I will be forced to discontinue it. I do love the convenience of not having to remember to take a pill everyday.

starting this month, i will be on the nuvaring for 3 years. i took the ring out yesterday, and my period is due Wednesday but this morning I was spotting. Which triggered me to do some internet researching, hoping I'm not pregnant. During my search I have read so many forums regarding side effects to the Nuvaring. And surprisngly, I guess I have a lot of them. First and foremost, I've lost my sex drive, just about completely which is so frustrating because I'm in a fairly new relationship (its only 8 months old). In addition, a year ago I started having incredibly bad anxiety attacks. Which I read that the booklet with the Nuvaring says not to take it if you have anxiety problems. Further more, since October of this year I have stomach problems that are unexplainable. If I have a day where I do not complain that my stomach hurts, its amazing. And I've tried many remedies- from Tums, to Nexium, to Apple Cider, anything that says it releaves stomach pressure. I'm almost 26 years old and in the last year I have been warned about my high cholesterol (I do not eat meat regularly), put on Zoloft for anxiety/depression, terrible terrible stomach issues, and sexual issues (such as the no sex drive, it is painful sometimes to have intercorse and sometimes after)... and after reading all of this I'm starting to think it might be all due to the birth control I use (which is Nuvaring). I do not know what to do because I really enjoy the light periods, the ease of not having to remember to take a pill at the same time every day, and that I have not gained that much weight as compared with Ortha Light that I was on previously for 2.5 years.

I started using the Nuvaring in January. I was so excited because I am so horrible at taking a pill everyday. I have been super moody, emotional for no reason, totally bite my wonderful boyfriend's head off all of the time :( and just overall depressed with no sex drive. He is the one that suggested I take the thing out, so I googled side effects and here I am! As wonderful as it is not to have to remember to take a pill everyday, I am done with the Nuvaring.

I am so glad I found this site. I have been on the ring for about six months now. I have decided to not use after this month. I have severe vaginal discharge and it is very gross and it makes me feel so unclean down there. And no matter how much you clean or take a bath it is always the same. Also my sex drive has hit rock bottom. I used to love sex and enjoy it and now I could care less. I have the lower back pain and also the stomach cramps. It is a good form of birth control in the sense that you don't have to remember to take a pill and it works but the side effects out weigh the benefits for me.

We have to remember that we are not just having a little stress prior to our period we were chemically altered by the birth control we have to remember we all messed up by taking the pill!!

So now some of us are having to take a pill to fix the damage from the BCP.

I wish Kevin Tredeau was here with me helping me thru this my family thinks I have lost it I cry all the time I cant do anything cant go anywhere.

I may not stay on the Lexapro if it doesnt kick in I still have the anxiety today and keep in mind I was on Yaz for 3 weeks!!!

Just a update I have taken 3 of the Lexapro and Iam very tired and dont feellike myself

I also didnt sleepwelllast 2 nights

Of course had all these symptoms prior to Lexapro

I will say it got rid of the creepy crawling under my arms that I suffered with for 6 weeks. It was like restless arm syndrome and it went away only 3 days on the Lexapro keeping my fingers crossed it doesnt come back.

Dejay also is on lexapro a week ahead of me and just so you all know she is doing so much better.
She was awful 2 weeks ago and now she is laughing and decorating her Christmas Tree.
I was really worried about her as she and I have become so close.

She swears she has no side effects from the Lexapro

I feel tired and kind of blah

I need to get back to work and get back on track and its so hard and so frustrating

I only slept 3 hours last night and wish I could take a nap but I cant.

DJ is seeing a therapist and she said the checmicals in our brains were altered by the stupid pill but that we will be back to normal.

I hate that I had to take a pill to get over Yaz/Yasmine as I said I didnt even take a Tylenol prior to this experience.

Does anyone else have any experience with the Lexapro??

Cant believe I had to take it
I too had been to the Emergency like 7 times in 7 weeks everytime telling em Iam fine except the first time I was anemic.
The last time I went to the ER the doctor told me to see a shrink.....he didnt believe a pill could trigger this

Dejay and I are so mad about the pill
It has stolen a part of our life and robbed a part of our soul

This experience forever changed us both

We have to do something everyday innocent women are taking the pill only to end up where we are today! Its wrong

Very very wrong

I have had pharmacist my doctor other doctors tell me its not the pill well it was the pill or the effects it played on my hormones

It made me a person who never took medication in my life have to take Lexapro!

I have been on NuvaRing for over 3 years. I really like the fact that I don't have to remember to take a pill everyday.

Anyway, I want to see if anyone else out there has the same side effects as me.

Before I was on NuvaRing, I used to go out to the bars at least 3-4 times during the WEEK, and have plenty to drink. I was able to get up, feel a little hungover, but get right on my feet about an hour after I woke up and get right to work. I'd sometimes get a headache, but it wasn't anything. It didn't make me nauseated either.

Now, my fiance is telling me that the reason that I get SO hungover, even after a very relaxed night of drinking, may be related to being on the NuvaRing.

I can go out and have 2-3 drinks and the next day, my head is pounding and I puke all day long. I can't keep anything down, not even water. I will take a sip of water and 5 minutes later, I have to puke it up to make my stomach feel better. When I get these "hangovers" I finally can start eating after about 6 pm, but I'll still have the headache all night long.

Do you think that the NuvaRing causes dehydration and after drinking it makes it even worse?

I am getting married soon, so I will be going off the ring and will hopefully be able to see if there is a difference.

Good luck to you all!

I have actually been on Nuvaring for over 2 years and I love it. I like the security of not needing to take a pill the same time everyday (i'm in constant fear of getting pregnant). I did experience some of the side effects posted on this message board, but most of them were in the first 4 months and went away after that. The most memorable side effect was moodiness - the slightest thing would make me sensitive and cry. My bf thought i was crazy. I continue to get migraines occasionally but I had them before i started BC in general. My only complaints are the continued vaginal discharge and the dwindled sex drive, although I hear that is not uncommon for most BCs.

I went to the doctor Friday night worried that I had pink eye. He says "No, your eyes are fine, nothing wrong there, but your cough sounds awful." so he listens to my lungs and says I have bronchitis. Yeah, I had a sinus infection a couple of weeks ago and the cough never went away. So I say, ok, what can you do? I have no insurance, the place I currently work at is cheap. He brings me 5 sample packets of Levaquin, 750 mg. Says to me "These are really good. Take one a day for the next five days. They should do the job, they are $25 a pill." I think, wow, that's some expensive medicine.
ANyway, I come home and take a pill around 8. I have a second job that I work on evenings and weekends, so I have to get up in the morning to go. I can't sleep like usual. I wake up every hour or two. First I am sweating, I get up and turn the heat down. Second time I wake up with tears running down my face, I'd been having a nightmare about one of the kids I watch dying od SIDS (How twisted is that?) Then I just keep waking up.... I go to work yesterday morning and after about 2 hours I start to get real light-headed and nauseous and my ears were burning like someone had embarrassed me to the extreme. I came home after being at work 4 hours. I felt sick to my stomach all day but thought it was because I hadn't eaten. WHen I finally ate, I couldn't stop eating. Then I did, and 2 hours later I was feeling sick again.
Not thinking anything about it being the drug, I took another one last night at 6:30. When I finally went to bed at midnight, the nightmares started all over again. I wake up crying, my body wracked with sobs, tears rolling down my face.
I don't want to keep taking this medicine if it is causing all of this but I don't have the money to go back to the doctor for something else, and I can't afford to still have bronchitis. What am I to do?
