I had a sore throat. The first doctor said mono. The 2nd doc. said no mono or strep --must be viral. Third doc says viral and puts me on predinsone, levaquin and darvocet because my uvula was swelling from infection. White count was elevated and had low grade fever. That was Friday..............................The Monday after that I had severe pains in my left side. After teaching went to ER they said gas after 2 minutes. Next day level 8 pain same side went back to ER. They said skeletal prescribed me 4 more drugs and told me it was viral too. Went to internist on Wednesday had to miss teaching he scheduled CT on Thursday morn. Level10 pain almost passed out on Thursday eve missed school/teaching. Friday admitted to ER at different hospital beyond any level of pain I have ever had, blood pressure through the roof, heart palp, they gave me morphine and phenagrin and muscle relaxer for spasms.

Here I am a perfect state of health get a sore throat and the next week I am in the hospital because of the 2nd ct saying that I am full of poo. 4 weeks later I am still in pain, missed 12 days of teaching and now they say i have ibs. I miss my active life before. I believe the combination of these drugs caused this. I am young no children and very healthy. Ultrasound,s blood works, 2 ct scans with dye, colonscopy, xrays show no probs. Which is great but still in pain. Anyone PLEASE HELP the doctors are taking their sweet time while I have lost weight and stay in bed which helps the pain. Bending over, lifting, eating, pooing, sneezing, coughing, hiccuping can make it worse. It is intense SHARP pain. I have cut out everything med wise except for Miralax and now I have diarrhea and joint pain.

They want me to take Dicyclomine and IMIPRAMINE, MIRALAX and Levisin sublingual and Diflucan.

When a class action lawsuit is filed, let me know....this drug should be taken of off the market immediately. We started all of this with an OB/GYN that prescribed this “miracle pill” and now have had to go not only to our primary doctor, but also a psychiatrist, gastrenologist, college campus counselors, psychologists, psychiatrist, and the campus medical doctors; All the while, accumulating enormous doctor bills. All the doctors say, "No, Yasmin won't cause those problems" (except the college campus doctors..wonder why? Hmm.. could it be that they are not in private practice?)....well, I beg to differ. Everyone needs to give this website to their doctor so the doctors can hear from the patients that have taken this drug, and not listen to the pharmaceutical companies that are pushing this drug to be the "miracle pill". Maybe if enough people complain and go to the media, we can get rid of this drug!
My daughter who is 18 was put on Yasmin because of irregular periods, hormonal imbalance, etc. We were told it was the new “miracle pill”. It will make you loose weight, regulate your periods, clear up acne, you name it, it will fix it. Yeah, right.
She started taking this pill in March 2007. She was off at college but called to tell me she was experiencing horrible headaches, behind the eyes. She complained about her stomach hurting, but we just figured it was the stress of freshman year at college. Then she said she got where she couldn’t eat when she went to a restaurant. When she came home in May for the summer, I noticed a total personality change. For example, she was always a neat freak, and now she wouldn’t clean her room. The first day when she drove home, she started crying she was so mad about the traffic. Yes, she has always had a little road rage, but this was ridiculous.
By June, not only could she not be in crowds, like at a restaurant, but now she is having full blown panic attacks and IBS. We called the OBGYN and they said, “Yasmin won’t cause this, go see your primary doctor”. I knew that the only thing that had changed with her was taking the YASMINE. I knew it had something to do with all of this so I “Googled Yasmin” and this website (http://www.medications.com/se/yasmin) was the first one I looked at. All of her symptoms matched everyone else’s! I am so glad we found this website, it explained everything and I had her to stop Yasmin immediately.
So we went to the primary doctor, explained about the Yasmin and how we thought it was the culprit of everything. Of course this doctor also says, “Yasmin won’t cause that”. We told him to look it up on the internet and see how there are over 3000 complaints on this drug, more than any of the other drugs on the market.
Besides the emotional problems she starting having, her pulse and blood pressure was sky high, so he puts her on medicine for that, and puts her on an anxiety medicine and sends her to a psychiatrist. She is very thirsty all the time, and develops IBS. She can’t eat without having pains in her stomach. So, now we’ve have gone from having just irregular periods, to all of the above, plus a psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist doubles her medicine (and puts her Pamine for the IBS) because the panic attacks are gone, but she still is having a lot of nervousness, anxiety, can’t sleep at night, crazy thoughts, worrying all the time, etc. A month later he changes her medicine again, to Effexor. The first 2 weeks, she does okay, but the packet doubles the strength after 2 weeks. It takes 4 weeks for it to take full effect. Right after she doubles this medicine, it is like her senses are on hyper-mode. She can taste everything that is in her food (chili powder, seasonings, etc…), taste the metal in water, and she can hear someone’s phone vibrating, in another room.
Then she goes back to college at the end of August 2007, and it’s horrible. The Effexor is having bad, bad side effects. We called the psychiatrist that she was using at home and he doubled the dose. That was the worse thing they could’ve done. The side effects were worse than ever. I had her to immediately go to a psychiatrist on campus. She told him the whole story and he believed her! Needless to say we switched doctors. He then lowered her dose back down to ½ a dose and hopefully can slowly get her off of all this medicine.
The newest thing she has developed is being hypoglycemic. The campus psychiatrist sent her to a campus medical doctor and he told her that they would get to the bottom of this. He tested her for everything under the sun. Low blood sugar is the only thing they found. But, she hasn’t taken the Yasmin since May. No telling what the results would have came back like if it was done at the time she was taking Yasmin.
Thank goodness she has counselors and doctors there at the campus that believes that Yasmin can cause all of these problems, and are working with her. From what I have read from the people that have used this medicine, although most doctors do not agree, Yasmin takes like 6 months to get out of your system. I think I am going to believe the testimonials of the people who take this medicine, over a doctor who prescribes it.
If everyone goes to the media, their doctors, the FDA, congressmen, and make them aware of these horrible effects, surely we can get this drug off of the market! Does anyone know a class action lawyer that would pursue this? For my child to have to go through all of this is ridiculous, not to mention costly. What do we know of the long term effects this drug will have if it is doing all of this when you first start taking it?
If you have the same concerns as me about this drug, and would be interested in looking into a class action lawsuit, please email: ****** I would be interested to see how many would want to pursue this.

Hello,

I read about how YAZ birth control pill affects the body and psych and I am now scared. This is my 2nd day of YAZ (I've never been on birth control pills ever and I am 27 years old), it's all new to me but after reading all these negative posts about Yaz I don't know what to do. Before the birth control pills, I was depressed, annoying, serious weight problems - 210 lbs :~~((, low energy, low libido, always tired, terrible migraines every 2nd day, ridiculously increased appetite and excessive hunger, hair where it shouldn't be, menstrual blood clots, excessive cramping etc
I have all these problems for 3 years now and now that the family doc. put me on YAZ birth control pill I am even more scared - mainly of more weight gain, it would be a tragedy for me, I am fat enough already and what's worse I can't lose the weight, exercise doesn't help, diet doesn't help, NOTHING. Will YAZ birth control pill worsen my already tragic condition? I just don't know what to do and what to believe ... I appreciate any advice or help you can give me ... Thank You to all!

I went to my doctor this past Thursday because I was experiencing ringing in my ears for about a month. No other symptoms other than the ringing - and it was just quite annoying. Doc put me on Avelox and Prednisone for a sinus infection. Took the first dose Thursday and the second Friday morning. Within and hour, the back of my head and neck were so full of intense pressure and pain. I felt dizzy, unsteady, sweaty and panicky. Called the doc who said that I wouldn't react that fast, and it was probably just part of the sinus infection. Continued to take both drugs all weekend, but still felt the intense pain and pressure after taking the Avelox. Last night, woke up around midnight with severe panic attack, disorientation, pain and pressure in the back of my head and neck - Scary! I called my doc and I told him I'm not taking it anymore. I had NO symptoms when I went to see him and left with more "stuff" going on in my head now! I'm going to see an ENT now.

I have been on the NuvaRing for a month now and started getting very bad cystic acne during the first week of use, as well as a hive-like rash. I had tried it once before about a yeat ago but don't remember this happening. I like everything else about the ring, so I'm hoping this improves. Has anyone else had this happen during the first month or two and then improve? My doctor thinks I should try it another month and that it may just take time for my body to adjust. Any experiences like this?

My mother has been taking Lipitor for four or five years. We moved and the new doctor increased her to 80 mg. He also put her on Zetia. Mother is 86 and weighs barely 100 pounds. This past year her short term memory started getting worse, more so than normal for her age, according to doctors. I was also noticing cognitive problems. She went through a battery of tests. She did not have alzeimers and nothing could be pinpointed other than she was worse than normal for her age as I already stated. Then this last week of the year, her muscles all over her body started hurted and feeling very sore. Then she started have lots of trouble walking, getting in her car, etc. It was so bad so quickly that I became extremely alarmed. My sister mentioned Lipitor and I started the research. I talked to two pharmacists, since we could not reach the doctor. They were both alarmed at the symtoms I described. We stopped both medications three days ago and she is already improving. I now believe that even the memory problems and other things that were gradual were because of the Lipitor. (the pharmacists did tell us it would be okay to stop both for the time being.) I was ready to take mother to the emergency room. That is how bad she had gotten is such a short time. I watched her and talked with her. She was very discouraged at the rate of decline in her walking. It was as if paralysis was setting in. I believe she would have been in a wheelchair soon had we not stopped the Lipitor. We are going to try some natural things to keep her cholesterol down. The quality of life is important too. This has been very scary for us but we are hopeful as she is already experiencing some improvement. We do understand that it can take time to get back and at her age that is expected. Being an elderly person though does not justify that all of these symtoms were 'just' her age. She has always been very active and alert and could outdo me (and my sisters) on most days! I will check this site often for comments and stories of others on this drug. Thank you for the help to those of you that I read your stories and good luck to you that are having difficulties.

HI Ladies:

I just want to let you know that things will get better once you get off the Yasmin and let your body regulate itself. It will take time, but you will get there. I am 3 months post Yasmin after being on it for 7 months. Although I still have some fatigue, the other symptoms have gone away, most importantly the anxiety.

I credit a lot of rehabilitation to my nutritionist who is helping me to naturally cleanse out my body with herbal remedies. Just 3 weeks ago, I was still in pretty bad shape. Now 4 weeks after using the herbs, I am about 90% back to normal other than the minor fatigue that I still have.

For those of us in relationships, I think the best thing we can do is be up front and honest with our loved ones about what is going on. Tell your boyfriends or husbands what the Yasmin is doing to your system, apologize for any weird behavior, and ask them for their support and understanding.

There are days where you will feel okay, then days where you won't. But as time goes on you will start to have more good days then bad ones.

I would suggest that you get your Thyroid levels and adrenal levels checked as those are the two organs of the body that seem to deteriorate most while on BCP's. Those are the two areas that my nutritionist had me check. Once we got those results back, she was able to more accurately tailor my herbal program.

Praying that all of us feel like ourselves soon and get back to normal.

Sandra

sophie,
I too experienced bad headaches when I went off yasmin. They would hurt in my shoulders up my neck into the top of my head and pain in the back of my eyes. It was sharp stabbing pains and a feeling of someone hitting the top of my head with a big rubber mallet. I would get so upset and cry and this seemed to make them even worse where I felt like my head was going to explode, I could even feel pulsing up around my temples. I remember getting one bad headache when I was on the yasmin (I was on it for three months and this was around about the second month) but they really got worse when I quit taking the yasmin. They would come and go every so often and this continued for about 2or 3 months, usually they would be worse around the week before my period was due to start. I do not get them anymore. I have been off yasmin for 5 months now. But I think they quit aroung the 2nd or 3rd month off. I know they were due to
the yasmin because I never ever have had such bad
headaches like that in my whole life!! I know what you mean about feeling like your going crazy, and depression!! Oh I felt so terrible. Please believe me when I tell you it will get better, but its going to take time. There are going to be days when you feel better and think ok eveything will improve from here on, but then the next day or in a few days you feel just as crappy as you did before, sometimes even worse. Just to know though that this is part of the process is helpful. I can even pinpoint a day that I felt the heavy "cloud" lift from my brain. I quit yasmin at the end of Nov. and I felt that cloud lift on about Jan. 20th. Now I tried going back on my regular birth control I had been on previous to yasmin for the month of december, and the first part of Jan. (I took the first 4 pills) and things still seemed bad and not to be getting better, so I quit all birth control all together, and then I started feeling better emotionally at the end of Jan. so what I am saying is, if you are not taking any birth control pills now you may start to feel better sooner than I did because you are not still putting the hormones into your body. I also felt a lot of the same symptoms you wrote, I was ALWAYS soooo cold, especially my hands, feet, nose, even when other people were hot, I would be bundled up in a blanket. I was severely panicked, and anxious mostly I think about whats going to happen next. I also had alternating diarrhea and constipation and my stomach would make these horrendously loud churning sounds! I also experienced mood swings and I didnt want to do anything or go anywhere anymore. I felt very self conscious about my looks because my face seemed to be changing before my eyes, my skin was sallow and I dont know how else to describe it but depressed. It has gotten somewhat better but not completely. In addition to cold skin my skin felt dry everywhere. And yes of course no sex drive. Also do not be alarmed if you start to lose more hair than normal. That happened to me as well when I quit the yasmin. my scalp also became sensitive especially in certain spots sometimes and then I would get little bumps on my head like an oil gland breaking through. Just know that you are not going bald you are still growing hair, you just losing a lot for a while. I took a prenatal vitamin everyday because I feel the folic acid and vitamins helped my hair grow faster. If It does happen try not to let it alarm you because thats the last thing your poor body needs now is more stress!!! Believe me, it has enough. Another thing I have been doing that I wish I had done sooner is acupuncture. The doctor I see says my body needs to get back in balance and that my liver needs to heal. It also seems to help with the depression. Dont get me wrong I feel better than dec and jan but Im still trying to get through some of the other side effects and Im in month 5. One other thing, Dr Lee has a book out called what your doctor may not tell you about menopause, dont let the title scare you, but a lot of the symptoms we are experiencing are signs of estrogen dominance. I am having my saliva tested to see what my estrogen and progesterone levels are, even though the doctors have tested them twice now and say they are in normal ranges, the saliva tests are supposed to be more accurate than blood draws. If you want to know how to get these tests write me back and Ill give you the website address I got mine from. I hope this helps. Write back and let me know how your doing.

I just wanted to give an update for the ladies who are coming off Yasmin. I was on it for 5 months in the summer/ fall of 2004. I got off of it in September of 2004. Now it is a year and 4 months later and I can say 90 percent of my problems are gone. I had it ALL ladies, pretty much anything you see on this site, but my main problem was anxiety and panic attacks that were crippling my life and making me suicidal. I had never , ever felt that way before an Yasmin almost did me in. I went off it after being prescribed antideprerssant/ antianxiety meds that I refused to take because I KNEW I wasn't crazy, and had literally gotten that way overnight. It took a good year for most of my anxiety to wear off. I still have occasional bits and pieces of it now and then but it is manangable. I also read every book out there on anxiety to help me learn some coping methods that worked for me. I think that the saddest thing is the permanent damage that it did to my relationship with my husband. We were plannign our wedding then and it really caused so much unnecessary tension and irritability and drama for us both. I have not gotten back on any pills or anything since getting off yasmin because i am afraid. I also havent had any soda, tea, or coffee in an attentmp de-caffinate myself so I will have less anzxiety also. For those of you getting off it , yes, it will take time. But i PROMISE yu there is a light at the end of the tunnel and you will get better in a few months, just hang in there.

I feel your pain, ladies! I had been on Yasmin before for several months with no side effects, so in February I went back on it. I gained about 5 lbs that month, and just didn't want to deal with the weight gain.

So when the month ran out, I stopped taking it. I gained 35 lbs in 6 weeks!!! I changed nothing about my diet and exercise during that time, so I know it was the Yasmin.

Here it is November and I've lost about 7 lbs of it. I can't change calories or exercise too much because I gain 3-5 lbs in a day. All I know is that it will take time for your body to stabilize, so hang in there.

I get so frustrated with drug companies and doctors only talking to each other, and not listening enough to patients who complain of these side effects. My blood pressure spiked from the weight gain, as did my glucose and cholesterol, which have always been low since I was 6ft tall and 155 lbs (now 189-192.) Just keep speaking up!

Angela,
It broke my heart to read your post. U sound just like me after I had a kidney transplant and had to take pred. I ballooned up so big. My face certainly had "MOON FACE" like I've mentioned in my other posts, I have three sizes of clothes. It's very depressing and no matter how much support u have, it's still your body and it is all about us. We can't help how we feel about ourselves. It's the pred. The self-esteem flys out the window. I've gone thru this so much. I was on pred. for 4 yrs. I have been off pred. for three months. I've lost weight but I have about 25 more to go. I gained around 75-80 lbs. myself. I've lost 33 now. I was so skinny before pred. because of dialysis. I don't want to be that skinny again, that's why I want to lose only 25 more. It's very hard to lose. How long do u have to be on it?
Withdrawal is very hard, also. No matter what people say, when we look into the mirror, it's depressing. I promise u, after u stop taking it, tho it will take time, u will lose it. U r in my prayers. I'm so sorry that u have to feel like this because I've been there, am there, and have a ways to go. Maybe as time goes on, your body will eventually will adjust. I assume u will be on it for some time. I certainly understand the depression. God Bless You Trailblazen

I started taking Synthroid 0.25mcg 4 month ago, for a thyroid that was a little under active. Last month I moved up to 0.50mcg. I have never felt better. Since I've been on the Synthroid I feel better than I have in 15 years, I'm 45. I have no hair loss, no leg cramps and my weight is fine. My period has become very normal again. The only thing that I notice is, my eye sight is changing. I had LASIK surgery a year ago and I'm noticing that my eye sight has gotten worse since I went to 0.50mcg. I go to the eye doctor in a week, it could just be aging. But I hope this helps someone to feel better. I did read that it take time to regulate the correct dosage to your needs, so just keep working with your doctor. And if your doctor doesn't seem to be working with you to make you feel better, then go to another doctor, I did.

HI everybody,
Well, my problem with going to the bathroom, ( cramps and diarrhea, throughout the day) seems to have subsided.
When I called my doctor and told him what was going on, he told me to cut my dose,(.125 ) in half.
Then, after my last bloodwork, he upped my dosage to .88.
So far, things are pretty good. I still work out, and haven't gained any weight. In fact, I just recently went on a 50 mile bike ride.
So, to everyone with side effects, hang in there. I think it is just a matter of getting the dosage right.
It took time for us to get sick, it will take time to get well.
Take care!

I also suffered terrible side effects from Levauin.
I was given it for a sinus infection.
I didn't have the pains in my limbs but I suffered terrible quivering and constant crying and weakness in my arms and legs. Thought I was losing it....
It took me four months to get over the withdawal.
The doctor and pharasist did tell me that it is a powerful drug and it will take time to get out of your system.
LIke I said, its been since December and little by little I did get better. Just takes time!!!!. So hang in there everyone....You will get better and be back to yourself again.
Thats a good idea about wearing a bracelet. I also told all the members of my family about this and if I'm ever in a situation that I can talk for myself and need an antibiotic. "Please make sure its not Levaquin or any antibiotic thats in the Quinolone family."

I posted previously..
I went on Levaquin in the middle of December for a sinus infection and I'm still feeling the effects.
After taking a couple of pills I started feeling really shaky and lightheaded..feeling of unreality, crying constantly..
But you know how they tell you "you have to take all the antibiotic" well stupid me took 8 of them..couldn't stand it anymore. I found this site and printed out all the information on Levaquin and went back to the drs. He didn't even want to look at the info. He said he knew that this drug could possible have these effects on some people. and that I should have stopped it right away and it will take time for it to get out of my system
I did the call the maker of this drug and also called the FDA and sent in a report to MedWatch.
Its been almost three months now and I still feel shaky inside.
Its just going to take time. I am better though.

Yes, shortness of breath was also one of the side effects that I experienced. I posted previously #4l51
I printed out all the information I found on the effects of Levaquin and all the other antibiotics in the Quinolone family and brought it to the dr that gave it to me. He didn't even want to look at it. saying "I know about the side effects this drug can have on some people" and told me I should have gotton off of it right away and that it will take time for the effects to get out of my system.
I also found that this drug was unaccepted in Canada and other countries.
If you are getting shortness of breath, I suggest you stop taking it and tell your doctor.

After being prescribed Levaquin I got on the internet and found this website just to read about it. I had been taking it for two days and the majority of what I read almost scared me into not finishing my prescription. I realized that as in most things people more often take time to write about the bad things and not the good. I continued taking it without any side effects and feel much better. Drugs can be hard for peoples bodies to process and I believe that drinking excessive amounts of water and a steady intake of fluids really helps along with following the warnings explicitly.
