10 months ago I was injected with Septocaine for a lower mandibular nerve block for a root canal in my lower jaw, right side. Since then I've had a terrible paresthesia of my tongue, right side, with burning pain, numbness and tingling, stiffness, and terrible taste sensations 24/7. This drug is dangerous and should be banned IMO. I don't know what I'm going to do... there is no treatment for nerve damage. I contacted Dr. Tony Pogrel at UCSF in California who told me that surgery is not indicated for injectional injuries and that if it doesn't clear up by the third month then the chances of recovery are "very poor". Just great. How the heck did this drug EVER get FDA approval????????

Male age 69. Switched from another blood pressure medication to 10 mg. lisinopril in November. Within 2 weeks my sense of taste changed completely. Terrible constant taste, usually bitter, in mouth. Could not stand to eat any foods with starch as enzyme in mouth to change starch to sweet taste was gone. After 2 months I switched to 2 mg. and lessened the terrible taste but still could not eat anything with starch and certain spices tasted terrible. In February I switched to another type of blood pressure medication and as of today I still have an acidly mouth, my tongue feels like it is burned on top, and starchy foods and spices still taste terrible. I have been told it may take 3 months to clear the chemical from my system. I hope it clears out! I wouldn't attempt to use this drug again unless there were no other alternative.

Headache, nausea, terrible taste in the mouth, constipation and stomach pain. But by far the taste and headache the worst. 500mg tablets two times daily. I feel almost as bad as I did before taking the medicine from all the side effects. My throat infection is gone but I still feel terrible.

Hello, everyone. I didn't know there was a page like this, but I'm glad there is. I've been on Topamax for 3 weeks because the medicine I was on for 2 years didn't do anything and the headaches weren't going away at all anymore; they were continuous. The first week at 25 mg I had the tingling for a day or two, the involuntary muscle twitches, the terrible mouth taste, and the chest pain. All but the terrible taste went away by the second week at 50 mg but I started getting wobbly legs and dropsy. I read an article somewhere where a person on Tomamax called the drug Stupamax or Dopamax and said anyone on it turned into a box of rocks. The box hit me at 3 weeks and 75 mg. I'm not wobbly anymore, I'm still irritatingly dropsy, and I am doing things that only a person with half a brain would do. Plus, my ears have been ringing for two days, and today I feel like I'm in a tunnel and everything is far away. I'm getting ready to call my doctor. On the OTHER hand, I haven't had a headache that lasted for more than a half hour in 3 weeks. So what's best? Going back to headaches or continue to evolve into a box of rocks?

I started taking Levaquin on Thursday October 4 for a sinus/throat infection. 5 days later and I feel wired out of my mind. Strange thoughts, increased energy intertwined with panic, wrist/hip pain, very little sleep. Severe stomach pain, constipation, nausea and vomiting, gagging reflex. Also mouth sores, and terrible taste in mouth. This has me very concerned. I am grateful that this isn't my imagination. Thanks for this forum. Why is this drug still on the market. Karen in Winnipeg, Canada

Yup, all of the above... I have been dizzy, restless at night, nausious, but like you have all said, the worst is the TASTE that is in your mouth all day and night, it tastes like a combination of grass and metal and it gets worse every time I cough (I am taking Biaxin for a very bad lung infection). I wake up in the middle of the night gagging and I have to run to the bathroom to basically drink mouthwash so that it will go away for an hour or so and give me some relief. It is disgusting and if it weren't for the fact that I NEED to get rid of this infection I would definitly stop taking it if only to just get rid of the taste in my mouth.

I have been on Coumadin for about 2 months now after surviving a cerebral sinus venous thrombosis (blood clot on my brain - akin to a stroke). I am s 34 yo female who races triathlons and leads a very active healthy lifestyle. My side effects seem to be mild compared to what I read of others. I am on 5mg/day, except 1 day a week I take 10mg. My INR has been pretty stable. The side effects I notice are mild forgetfulness which I am hoping goes away as I start my 3rd year of law school next week! I also had some weird skin peeling on my hands, but that has subsided. I seem to urinate more often than normal and soda pop tastes weird to me now. Anyone else experience the frequent urination and/or taste issues?
Thanks!
Dana :)

I have been on Topamax for 4 weeks and although I have had some side effects, the drug had done wonders for preventing migraines. I was getting 4-5 migraine headaches a week and now I get none or only 1 a week. The side effects I got mostly occured on the weeks I was increasing the dosage and were nausea, dizziness, fatique, lack of appetite and of course cognitive disruption. I could not remember the little things and of course that made you just a little nuts, but I read up on the drug before I started on it and knew all that could happen. I was so miserable with the migraines that I had to try it and hoped the side effects would not be terrible.
I do not regularly drink carbonated beverages so the terrible taste now due to the medication is no big deal. I will continue with the medication as long as it controls my migraines.

OMG, I am so glad that I found this site. The Dr. Has me taking Advair for about a year.
I am a 27 y/o Female and I quit smoking about two years ago. I thought my breathing and sense of taste would come back but after a while it didn't. I went to my doctor last year to complain about chest congestion, runny nose, all that good stuff. He said I could have some sort of fibrosis of the lung and sent me for an xray and when it came back he said I had little bronchitis and asthma. I have never had asthma and only one member of my family has it. I assume I got this because I am a former smoker.
He started me on the advair and at first it really helped. Then I ran out and couldn't afford it for about three months. Basically the whole summer. I went to see him for a follow up and he gave me two more samples. I started back on it for the past week and I feel worse. Last night, I though I was going to die and all I kept thinking was that I am too young to die. I had a racey heartbeat and a terrible taste in my mouth that only elevated my heart beat and anxiety. Finally I calmed down but I thought I was going to die in my sleep. I am so scared. I can hear the tick in my chest, you know that sound, it sounds like there is a wind up toy in there.
I don't know if that's the bronchitis again. But it wasn't there before the advair. I think it's creating mucus in my chest. The Dr. said that if any mucus came to let him know. I am going to try to get in to see him, I don't want to take advair again. I just don't know what else to do. I am terrified and though I lost weight for the Cholesterol, my stomach is not going away, I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could turn back time and Not get that damn kenalog shot. Since August 2006 I have gone through dizziness, nausea, blurred vision, blood sugar imbalance, pitts in some areas the shots were given, 10 pound weight loss in one week, flushed skin, anxiety especially throughout the night when sleeping, poison feeling, hot and painful hands and cold feet, terrible taste in mouth. I have seen numerous doctors in one month. I have been in the hospital twice. I was told to see a therapist since my tests showed negative.
Finally, I found a wonderful doctor who performs muscle tests (shows what vitamin your deficient in and fixes the problem with supplements) She has improved my condition greatly. I believe I would be living handicapped without her or maybe would not even be living the way my body started to shut down. I could not work and dropped out of nursing school (I had a scholarship). I will pass her number on if anyone is interested Dr.******

I have been on prednisone for 8 weeks for an eye disease at 25mg. I have had insomnia, tremors to hands, sore mouth, terrible taste in mouth, weight loss and the moon face. I will start decreasing the prednisone in 5 days and eventually off in 2 months. How long does it generally take for the moon face to start decrasing even just a little ? Jo

I had a full hysterectomy last year when I was only 32. Now it's a year later and a lot of my lower abdomen pain is still present. No one seems to know what the problem is - I've received two kenalog shots within the last 6 weeks in my abdomen. The bruising is significant, but no indentation (yet). The pain is as bad as ever and now I'm reading all of your postings. I also have a terrible taste in my mouth - and I'm brushing so often I'm actually taking enamel off my teeth. I'm scheduled for another injection this afternoon. Should I just stop going?

Given Biaxin for 7 days after a fall and superficial skin scrapes to prevent infection. Having a broken nose and in pain I took it . Stupid. I have been getting 3-4 hours sleep/night. Terrible taste. Also so nervous and jittery that I feel like I have had an extreme caffeine overdose.

I will NEVER take this medication again. I was perscribed Sulfameth 3 days ago for a mild UTI, and yesterday I called my doctor to have them call in a new perscription for me because I refuse to take that garbage any longer. I have had the most HORRIBLE headache I've ever felt, and I have a relatively high threshold for pain and discomfort. I've left work early due to vomitting and nausea, I've been dizzy, diapharetic, had a constant terrible taste in my mouth, I've experienced blurred vision and white spots in my vision, muscle aches, joint pain, muscle spasms, I've been unable to sleep even though I've been exhausted, I've been nervous, and near tears with a pounding heart beat and shallow breathing like an anxiety attack, I've had hot and cold sweats, indecisiveness, nervousness, intolerable neck and back pain, pain in my left kidney, and terrible sinus pain and pressure. This stuff is awful. When I went to pick up my new perscription for Cipro - something I've taken before with no negative side effects - the phamacist said I was probably allergic to sulfur drugs. Now I see that my experience was not unique. I wish I'd found this site before beginning Sulfameth. These side effects were terrible. I do not recommend this medication.

gassy smell
lasting unexplained feeling on tongue after swallowing
the last time I took the pill: Upon putting pill on my tongue. I attempted to swallow it with lukewarm coffee. It must have immediately broken up and my mouth had a terrible taste. I spit it out, coffee and broken up pill. It left a terrible burning feeling in my throat and continued to go down further as I tried washing it down with more coffee, then water. I had a hard time swallowing for at least 12 hours. It felt as if I had a bad cold and my throat felt inflamed and swallowing was difficult. I refuse to take this medication again.

Two days ago I was prescribed Levaquin for a kidney infection. 18 hours later I started having nightmares, paranoia, and shakiness. At 24 hours I took my next dose. Within 2 hours I had a terrible taste in my mouth, felt extremely dizzy, in a panic, disoriented, a feeling of doom, and rapid breathing. By the time I got to the hospital I was shaking all over, crying uncontrollably, skin felt like it was crawling, and I had begun to hallucinate. Horrible things! The drs. started with benadryl, it did not work. Next came Ativan, it helped but did not stop the hallucinations...Finally I was given Haldol and it stopped the hallucinations. That was yesturday. The hallucinations are gone, but the dizziness, parnoia, disoriontation, shakiness, and just plain feeling "out of it" is still here! The Dr. sent me home with a new antibiotic, (macrodantin) and 30 ativan pills. How long will these horrible side affects continue??? please email me if you had a similiar experience. I took advair over a year ago to try to help me. I only took it for about a week and it did not help but even now one year later I have an awful sore throat and terrible taste in my mouth that I beleive was caused by advair, and if I really puff my lungs out I get smoke to come out. Go figure and it was supposed to help....
