I've been taking lipitor for 2 and a half years and have recently started getting a severe stabbing pain in the front thigh muscle. It is so painful it stops you dead in your tracks. I have stopped taking the Lipitor for a week now and the pain has gone. I also have memory loss and dizzy spells but don't know if that can be contributed to lipitor. I also have problems with co-ordination and speech. As I am only 46 I don't think it is old age!

Was on Vytorin for 3 mos before I started developing serious health issues. First it was pneumonia. While trying to recover from that, I started experiencing pain in my thigh muscle which caused me to have difficulty walking and sitting. Each day the intensity of pain was increasing, so much so that by day 5 my husband took me to the emergency room at 4 in the morning because the pain wouldn't stop. I was put on bed rest for a week and had to take a narcotic for the pain, anti-inflammation and muscle relaxer meds. I missed 2 weeks from my job in 2 months. After paying attention to the commercials (something I never do) I realized that Vytorin could have caused my problems.
I've been off the drug for 30 days now. It has also caused damage to my liver. I have to have blood drawn bi-weekly to see if my liver is healing properly. The pain in my thigh has gone away to the point where I can walk normally but I'm still stiff when trying to stand up after sitting for a while. I tried to go back to exercising but the damage to my muscle isn't allowing that to happen. I'm praying that this won't be permanent.

Wow! I am shocked. I have taken Levaquin on several occasions in the last two years for various infections - cellulitis, pneumonia and UTI. Over time my legs, knees and right hip have become so painful that I have actually checked the terms of my life insurance policy because I did not think I could go on. I have been attributing my severe pain, which is not helped by narcotic pain medication to any significant degree, to an old fall injury, new over-use injuries, being overweight, not being fit, etc. I never thought for a minute that my only available antibiotic choice, Levaquin, could be the culprit. I was just researching severe leg pain on the net (again) and stumbled on this site. I have had unusual headaches, loss of appetite, and of course severe leg, knee and hip pain, as well as weird visual perceptions (I keep thinking the light is too low) and horrible muscle pain in my right thigh and calf. I had a trip and fall accident and now have lymphedema in the right thigh and have had many other complications since '92. When I went back to my doctor last Monday, he told me to take a second course of Levaquin for cellulitis in the thigh when I complained about the horrible pain in my thigh muscle, knee and hip. Does he really have no idea that Levaquin has these serious side effects being reported? I am now terrified that these painful conditions are going to persist for a long time to come. I can barely walk at this point and I have chronic severe pain and I have missed many days of work since taking these last three rounds of Levaquin (500 mg. x 10 days each) since September. Again, wow!

Just an update! First off, PLEASE I implore you, CONTACT the mfg! They need to submit these side effects to the FDA which can alert and prevent this from happening to other unsuspecting patients like ourselves!
Okay just got back from the dr's (rhumotologist) Good News, Bad News and Good News! First she knew IMMEDIATELY what was going on and this is what happens with this drug (to those who get the burning of the knees and muscle pains) you get tendonitits from the medicine and it works so rapidly it breaks down all your muscles in your legs, joint areas ect. Your arms and hands bounce back easily because they're not weight baring joints for the most part, however, the legs, knees, ankles are not so easy to build back up. The bad news is that this did happen and it is going to take 3 to 6 months of aggressive therapy (my choice on aggressive, I could have done low impact, but I don't have the patience, would rather brave the pain and get it over with!) to build your muscles back to where the medication broke them all down. The other good news is that it will go away (according to dr.) So I am VERY optimistic and have a great outlook now!
To the poster who asked about gaining weight, I lost weight, had nightmare, sleeplessness, tremors and nausia, all that disappeared (tremors being the longest lasting out of them) pretty much after I stopped the medication. The knees, ankles and thigh muscle contractions, are still going strong but I am being careful where I was not before I knew what was going on and now I am looking forward to getting back to the gym and therapy and get this over and done with!
Okay PLEASE again EVERYONE www.levaquin.com will give you the manufacturer's information, PLEASE contact them, PLEASE if they are forced to put warnings on the lables, then someone else will know when to stop taking the medication if they start to feel muscle pain and burning. Thanks everyone and I hope everyone is feeling better!!

NEGATIVE:
Lisinopril is my "only" medication, other than a random ibuprofin. at age 58, I began on 20 mg for elevated BP control...that was almost five years ago.
I went through some light headedness at first (mostly my imagination, I suppose) as, "anything" new psychologically messes with me. My BP "did" drop to acceptable quickly, and just a year ago required a jump up to 30 mg (as I either became system-tolerant of its effects, or, my current level of inactivity has impacted my BP).
REVIEW:
Although I had the normal "minor arthritis" and a few gout toe attacks beforehand; After 8 months or so of Lisinopril application, I began to "really" have chronic joint pains (thumb, elbow, knee, big toe). As an active type, this began to slow me down-so I returned to the doctor for a comprehensive set of X rays-which supposedly revealed Impact Osteo-arthritis at the afflicted joints,... at that point, I also mentioned two other observations;
One, I just feel sort of weak, like possibly tired and unrested muscle-wise, Two, My random gouty big toe attack appeared like it was trying to manifest ...but, never did (fully) on six or so occaisions.
After almost two years into my Lisinopril, I began having cramps (actually, severe soreness and tightening)in my foot bottom and calf muscles... I assumed it was from lifting, and standing a lot. My muscle fatigue seemed worsened, and, I noticed a "visual" loss in my muscle size and tone...I "was" now much weaker than last year in my lifting, tugging, and shouldering abilities.
This accompanied with the constant joint stiffness had begun to physically modify my daily abilities and routines.
After two years on the Lisinopril, Unexpectedly (and in a physically quiet week) I had an episode of right knee pain and excruciating (very severe) 24 hour-a-day ankle/calf/thigh muscle cramping that went unabated for three horrible days...exhausted from no sleep, the inability to relax at all, after trying ice, heat, hydr-therapy and popping so many Ibuprofins, it was off to the hospital.
Some knee cap injections of steroids-a calcinated meniscus diagnosis-and a dismissal of "why the muscle cramps ?" and I was healed, Sorta'
With my continuing decline in joint movement, and sore, weak muscles, my overall activity level dropped, my inabilities to now lift, or bend fluidly caused me to appear much older (physically) and hobbled than my years.
A year ago (just before the increase in dosage), I took some time off. And really self-reviewed my present physical condition with that of 4 years earlier. The "only" change was adding Lisinopril...and of course, normal aging.
My annual lab tests are still enviable.
My genetics and family history refute what is happening.
My sexual and physical prowess has diminished greatly.
My energy level and stamina is very poor.
My whole life-style has been modified (destroyed actually),
to accomodate this new dynamic of muscle/joint problems.
My musculature appearances have diminished from inactivity.
I feel, move, look and hurt "old".
My insistance that this problem is muscle/tendon rather than joint related ALWAYS goes to deaf ears.
Before these complaints could even be filed with my doctor (for my fourth-year annual physical), I began the left knee, then the "both" knee flare ups again; the Doctor visit (and 10 mg increase in dosage of Lisinopril) advised me I was just getting old.
In the 6 months or so since my last doctor visit, I have experienced a worsening of strength, and a now "constant" knee pain (every step). My sixty day abstinence from alcohol had zero impact on my overall, the one year salt ban has shown me nothing, and I just recently went back to square one and a full rethink of my dilemma.... I came away suspecting my Lisinopril.
I am going to seek another Doctor for a review and perhaps a change from Lisinopril.

I started taking Singulair about 3 months ago. In that time I have gained 12 pounds, had severe nightmares and gotten very crabby and anxious. My doctor said my pulse rate was 100 and my heart was racing on my last visit. He accused me of doing something to cause this heart racing and weight gain. The only thing I'm doing different in the last 3 months is taking Singulair 10mg once a day. I've also started having strange cramps in my upper thigh muscle. I am extremely fatigued and sometimes will sleep all day and then want to turn in early to get more sleep.

Was prescribed Levaquin for UTI. 8th day, knee swelling and severe pain in tendons in back of knees, had to stay off my feet. If it weren't for the computer, I wouldn't have known that tendonitis was one of the adverse reactions to this medication. I stopped medication immediately. 1 wk later tendons in hands very painful. I'm glad I found this web site. By reading people's experiences, it helped me cope with the pain and gave me hope that this will eventually disappear. I seem to be more fortunate then some, its 5 wks since I stopped medication and knees seem to be alot better, only hurt if I stand or walk too long. Left hand is the problem, still very painful, have to stop and rest it often. Sometimes I am lulled into a false sense of security and think everything is back to normal, then pain returns. Pharmacy, doctors have been no help, very evasive. Filed a report with Drug Co. In the meantime, I will have to REST and drink plenty of water and hope this will all disappear eventually. Good luck to all who are suffering. I have prayed more often.
PS: Comment for the wise guy who made light of people's pain from these side effects. From what I read, Levaquin side effects may not appear until after you've had taken them several times. So watch out, you may be eating those words.

i had the most painful and frightening episode last night. thank god for the internet....the zocor stops today....after only a week or so of low dose....severe leg ,inner thigh muscle cramps and then last night...i must speak frankly,at the end of normal sexual relations, my climax spasm transitioned into a groin and lower stomach cramp that made me roll off the bed in pain and confusion, never have i felt such horrible mind numbing pain....took about ten minutes for spasm to release, still awful sore this morning....it's oatmeal and more swimming for me...just the memory of the pain and helplessness in the midst of it make me nauseous.
