I recently started Macrobid and my right hand started itching and it broke out in hives. On the fourth day I forgot to take the medication and my hand felt a little better, however when I started again it got worst! I am stopping Macrobid. It is awaful and the doctor did not say anything about this. I had gone back for my hand three days later after starting Macrobid and the doctor did not say anything about side effects!

I took this drug for 9 days of a 10 day prescription. I suffered from insomnia, but didn't connect that to the meds. On day 9 I awoke with slight pain in one knee. As the day wore on, that pain got acute and spread to the other knee, elbows, shoulders and hands. I thought perhaps it was a severe attack of osteoarthritis, but that didn't seem right. Three days later in a newspaper column called "The People's Pharmacy" I read about Levaquin causing severe tendon problem. A light went off in my head and I heard a "Boing!" It is now day 5 of my symptoms, some of which have abated. I still have to wear a knee brace on one leg, can't bend either knee very far, and am in acute discomfort. I took some naproxin to alleviate the inflammation and it seemed to work, but I won't take NSAIDS for a long period of time. I'm furious. Neither the doctor nor the instructions for the medication warned me of this side effect. Now I'm left to hope this goes away with time and I can walk comfortably again without this giant brace on my left knee. I remind myself of Igor in "Young Frankenstein!" Sleeping is uncomfortable as well - I awoke in severe pain last night because I had rolled onto my side and my right knee was resting on my sore left knee. Not good. I'm furious.

My nine year old son was put on Singulair for asthma on June 20th. On the tenth day on it, he started complaining of pain in his upper thigh. Three days later, he woke up crying with the pain and said he felt like his leg was broken. I knew something was wrong; this was not normal for him. (We had tried Singulair three years ago with him, but it caused bad stomach pains within the first week, so we stopped. The doctor thought maybe he could tolerate it being a little older. Wrong. ) I stopped giving it to him that day and by the next day, the leg pain was gone.
I'm glad for the posts I read here. I feel bad that I gave him this medication a second time, never again!

I have an 8 year old who was put on Advair; after 3 months he started having pain in his chest and left arm, said it hurt to breath and had a fever. Within three days (continuing the Advair) it had turned into pneumonia. His asthma/allergist doctor who put him on the Advair took him off of it, only to have my sons pediatrician put him right back on it. One week after getting a clean bill of health for the pneumonia and being back on the Advair he started in with the exact same symptoms (hurt to breath, pain in chest & left arm and fever). Took him in right away only to have the pediatrician give him a prescription for acid reflux; He dismissed my concerns the first time and refused to even consider that it might be the Advair the second time we went in there. I took my son off the Advair that day, three days later he was able to sleep all the way through the night and the chest pain and fever subsided (did not give him the med. for acid reflux). I will not put my son back on this medication. I have also noticed a change in his behavior, not as irritable or anxious as he has been for the last month or so.

I started taking Levaquin on November 28, 2006. Three days later, November 30th, my right leg in the calf muscle was tightening up. On the sixth day, both legs were having muscle pains. I stopped taking it on the seventh day. What I want to know is, will my legs return to normal after this drug goes out of my system, or will I have bad legs from now on? I have extreme difficulty going up stairs as well. Someone, let me know if it went away for you

I had a hypertensive crisis in early July. I went to the Doctor for a history and physical for pre surgery on my knee. I had been in severe pain in my knee since March.. The doctor found my blood pressure to be 200 over 108. I had been put on Toprol XL50mg, 1 & 1/2 tabs at night,(of which I was only taking one tablet) and 10-40 mg. of Vytorin the previous year by this doctor's partner, (and wife) for mildly elevated blood pressure. On May 25th, my psych, who treats me for ADHD and mild depression checked my blood pressure in her office and it was normal. 120/75. This doctor then Doubled my Toprol, Added Lisinopril and postononed my surgery. I told him that I had been in angony and felt that this may be causing my spiked blood pressure, as I tend to do this. Less than three days later I was admitted to the hospital through the ER with high blood pressure and tingling in my arms and wrists. The doctor added Norvasc to bring down my heart rate and Klonopin to control my anxiety. After many difficulty and expensive tests, he concluded that I had high blood pressure due to stress from pain, medications, and a problem with anxiety. I had my surgery and am recovering nicely from my knee pain. I saw my psych, and she put me on topomax and trileptal to control mood swings. I am now into a full blown major depressive episode that I believe is being caused by any or all of these medications. None of my doctors have time to talk to me or want to help me. They only see things from their specialty. I am so frustrated and angry. Has anyone else experienced severe depression with this lisinopril. I need to get my life back!!! This is a bad Drug!!!

I was prescribed Doxy for a bone coming out of my gum in my mouth and the dentist filed it down and told me to take 2-100 mg, which I did. I went out in the sun, took a shower in the evening, and my penis area started swelling up and was real red. I stopped using it immediately. Three days later it looks like it was put through a meat grinder. The rest of my body is itching and tinted red. What a nightmare!!!!! It is now day 5 and I am not getting any better. Does anybody know how long this stays in your system?

I recently took the single dose liquid Z-Pak for what was supposed to be bronchitis. Three days later, I have a full-fledged sinus infection and painful, ringing in my ears. The stuff also seems to have given me horrible dreams, and I can sleep for only about and hour and a half at a time. During the time I'm awake, i'm so befuddled I can barely function. How long does it take for this stuff to get out of your system?

I began taking prednisone a week ago for a severe case of poison ivy. prior to taking it, i did a little research and heard all of the horror stories, so i was very anxious. the doctor prescribed 20 mg three times a day to start, with a taper-off beginning three days later. my wife, who is a nurse, was shocked at the high dose, consulted with a friend who is a nurse practitioner and we all agreed to cut the dosage by 60%. I began to take the drug, and relief was almost immediate. My hand was so swollen with the ivy, i couldn't make a fist. in 24 hours, the swelling had gone down, in a few days, the itching was gone and the ivy was drying up. In addition, i have had zero negative side effects. Contrary to what I have read, I actually have a decrease in appetite and a bit of weight loss. I have more energy and feel wide awake until about midnight every night. It takes a bit longer than usual to fall asleep, but I feel great upon waking up in the morning. All in all, I have had a very positive experience with prednisone, and that is a lot for me to say, as I despise pharmaceutical companies, and take no prescription drugs at all (well, except for an occasional prescription decongestant when allergies flare up.) But I shudder to think of what would have happened if I had started on the massive dose the doctor originally prescribed.

I began taking Advair 250/50 about two months ago. After one month, I developed thrush on the back roof of my mouth and back of my throat despite gargling with alcohol-based mouthwash and brushing my teeth after taking the Advair. A prescription of Nystatin to swish and spit every eight hours took care of the thrush. I still find myself clearing my throat quite a bit with a feeling of throat congestion and am sometimes hoarse. After 90 days on the 250/50, my breathing tests improved only slightly, so the doc upped me to Advair 500/50. Three days later I experienced discomfort and mild pain in my left chest while competing in a bicycle race which I do regularly. The discomfort increased with increased effort, so to play it safe I dropped out and relaxed. This feeling has continued over the last three days but appears to be lessening. I assumed I had strained an intercostal muscle in my ribs during my breathing tests at the doc's. After reading comments on this site, I'm more concerned about side-effects. I plan to discontinue use of Advair temporarilly to see if it disappears. If it does, I will restart Advair use and see what happens, then post more to this site.

My doctor started me on Zocor in December to lower my cholesterol. New Years Eve I developed a fever and a pain in my groin area on my right side. My doctor diagnosed it as kidney stones. I was taking the Zocor, they told me to drink plenty of water. When the stone hadn't passed the next day they gave me Viagra to take and told me to drink beer. I asked about the beer and Zocor because it said not to drink with this drug but the doctor said it was ok. I drank two cans of beer for two days. The third day I drank a can of beer and threw up. The pain in my right side moved and finally stopped. Three days later I had severe lower back pain. The doctor told me that I had a severe kidney infection from passing the kidney stone. He gave me antibiotics and pain killers. After the antiobiotics I was in pain again. It started in my right groin area, I also had pain on my right side, lower back, legs, knees and arms. I was sent to a urilogist to rule out a kidney problem. I told him my symptoms and he said it sounded muscular. At this point I could not walk without help from my husband, I was nausiated, could not sleep at night after taking the Zocor, no sex drive even after the pain got better. For one week I could only lay in bed in pain. There were all kinds of tests done on me and they could not find anything wrong with me. The only relief I got was the shot the urologist gave me and the Viox for the pain. I called my doctor and told them that I thought it was the Zocor. I also experienced numbness in both my hands and arms. Four days since I stopped taking Zocor. Feel better already. I will not take this drug again. I pray symptoms will leave.
