I had always been 160 lbs since 8th grade, which was a fine weight for me bacause I'm tall and muscular. When I was 25 I gained 20 lbs over 3 months with no change in diet or activity. So I went to the doctor because hypothyroidism is very prevelent in my family. The blood work showed I was borderline hypothyroid, so the dr didn't suggest starting any medication. So I started working out 4-5 times a week for at least 1-1 1/2 hours per day. I also got on phentermine to help jump start my diet. After doing this for 2 months, I had gained 5 lbs. Which is crazy because anytime I needed to lose weight, I had no problem dropping 10 lbs in 2 weeks. I was frustrated but ignored it for a while because I got pregnant shortly after that. During the pregnancy, my throid was checked again and was normal. I weighed 248 lbs the day I went in to give birth. 2 weeks later, I weighed 210lbs and a month after that I was 200lbs. Then I went back to work,(where I walk continuously all day) and I could not budge my weight below 200 lbs no matter what I did. So I went back to the dr and I was slightly hypothyroid again. I opted to go on generic Synthroid 25mcg. I then gained 37 lbs over 4-5 months. So I went to another dr. to get on phentermine. I started the phentermine and lost about 27 lbs. I have been off phentermine for a while, but have been working out vigorously working out and watching my diet and couldn't lose another pound. So, I thought the synthroid might be making it harder to lose weight. I stopped taking it and have lost about 10lbs in the last month. I think there is definitely a connection in synthroid and my inability to lose weight. But I still can't get below 200lbs and I still feel sluggish. I am only 28 and don't think I should attribute this to age. I can understand age causing weight gain of 5-10 lbs per year but not 155lbs in May '05 to 183lbs in Nov '05 then to 200lbs in Jul '07. Please give me any suggestions you might have. Diet, medication, activities???

i've been on synthroid for 9 years. started at some low dose and gradually went up to112 mg. get extreme itching all day everyday if i don't take allegra for that.not a rash just itching. that doesn't bother me as much as the fatique. every joint in my body aches all the time. sure there are better days but fo rthe most part it's bad. tried physical therapy and chiripratic care but no avail. they ended my sessions. my legs get sooo weak and my feet burn lower back really aches. sometimes muscle cramps. i'm very negative towards my loving family and it hurts me to do so. can't seem to keep upbeat. soo tired all the time.
is it the syntroid? i used to be very energenic and a doer. now i have spurts of activity in the morning , but then i just can't get motivated. help me any suggestions?

my son is on toprol and i've never seen him sleep so much in his life. he has svt. atleast thats the reason they put him on this medication and say he will be on it forever or until something better comes along. he has no ambition. he used to be hyperactive growing up. maybe there is something else he could take for the tachycardia??? i'm so confused as to what to even ask the dr at this point.

ditto on the sore throat! i get sore throat and a muffled sensation in my ears about 2 days after my period starts, mydoctor is checking my throid levels again now i am off the yasmin so may ask her why hormones should affect my throat. nice to see you posting again abs528...how are you doing? are you hanging in there? i have been off yasmin for 5 weeks now and i feel like i am getting better and better all the time,i still have my odd days when the anxiety gets the better of me but in general i am winning,i hope this turns out to be the case for you too. According to my doctor contraceptive pills can cause a worsening of anxiety symptoms and definately makes depression worse so maybe it is the same for OCD? i have always been a "cautious" person but i think the shift to "terrified of my own shadow" was definately caused by the yasmin as now i am off it i seem to be back to being cautious...just a little more so than before! best wishes to you all and if anyone gets an answer about the sore throat thing please please post it here!

I have been on yasmin for 3 yrs. Six months ago I started having horrible chest pains on my right side. They would come and go. Sometimes it moves to the center of my chest and sometimes on the left, but predominiately on my right side. I went to the Dr. 3 times and he said I was fine. Then a few months ago, I started having numbness in my right arm and leg, as well as shortness of breath, a slight cough and major anxiety. They tested my throid twice and that's fine. I finally got a second opinion last week and they took more blood and a chest xray. The Dr. said Yasmin has been know to cause blood clots. My old dr. thinks it's in my head. It's certainly not in my head. I feel like I'm dying every day of some wierd disease, b/c no one can figure out what's wrong with me. I have had two full blown anxiety attacks. And I am constantly tired all of the time. I used to run for at least 40 minutes every day, now I have to run for 20 and walk the rest, or just walk. I have also started walking at night too, b/c I have gained 20 lbs, in the last 4 months. Has anyone experienced any or this. I went off the pill yesterday, after finding this site. My boyfriend is starting to think I'm nuts. I'm hoping it is the yasmin. I've been on a pill since I was about 17 so that's 10 yrs. maybe my body needs a break?

I posted here in early Sept. about my problems with lisinopril. After reading other posts I started doing some google searches. Because a previous HBP medicine caused my thyroid function go down I was switched to Lisinopril. Two years later, my throid levels which had recovered are now going down again. Several posters mentioned suppelmenting with zinc to deal with the cough so many people develop. A "lisinopril zinc" search had several sites that all stated in practically the same words that no research showed a link to zinc and lisinopril but supplementation might be a good idea. (Don't dose yourself with zinc because that can cause things to go out of whack.) I also found an article by Dr. Ron Hoffman about "Drugs That Steal." He reported that ACE-inhibitors caused zinc to be depleted from the body.
Then, I googled "zinc TSH". TSH is the indicator of how your thyroid is working. There I found several articles about how low zinc levels may cause low thyroid symptoms. Ask low-thyroid sufferers how hard it is to get doctors to diagnose and deal with this wide range of symptoms that are often vague.
Now I'm stuck. Is it lisionpril or is it my thyroid? My doctor sees the HBP first and wants to add medications to deal with the first medication's side effects. But then suppose there are more side effects from the next medication. This is a real quality of life issue.

I had the Mirena put in about 7 weeks after my 2nd child (July 2008). I had the bleeding like they said, about 3 months. My biggest problem is the mood swings and weight gain. I gain 14 pounds. I had my thyroid checked and that was off. I have lost some weight but it is coming off very slow. My mood swings are out of control. I tried to chalk it up to being at home with two small children everyday. But it seems like I'm not the only one that has this problem. I am not myself! I get so angry. I'm really thinking that I should have it taken out. These mood swings are making me crazy!
