I have been on Celexa for 4 months now. At first, I lost about 6-8lbs. But just a few weeks ago I began to put on weight fast. I noticed that my appetite was out of control. I was informed by my doctor that such a low dosage (20mg) wouldn't cause such a reaction. But unfortunately I have gained about 15lbs in a matter of 3-4 weeks. I exercise regularly, but find that I barely have the energy to get thought the workouts, and when I get home, all I want to do is eat. Does anybody know how to lose weight while being on Celexa?

I started taking Topamax 2 days ago and I have already noticed side effects..such as the flat soda...numbness in my arms and face at night...BUT the worst part are the morbid thoughts at night ( I take only 25 mg at night) I have the most bizarre dreams and I wake up feeling like I havent slept for days. I am taking it due to severe migraines which result in seizures. I am horrified after reading some of the posts here. I am wondering if anyone started out with any of these side effects and then as their body became accustomed to the medication did they pass?

Took 2, 6day packs 4mg for 2 ruptured discs causing crippling back pain. Could not walk much at all or stand straight. Im 37 years old male, have always avoided any meds if possible.
Results:
Back pain went away after 10 days, along with good chiropractor visits, cold pack treatments throught the day and lots of lying flat on my back wearing a brace provided by chiropractor.
Side Effects:
-Sleepy during day, difficult to sleep at night.
-Slightly blurred vision.
-Constipated at times and loose at times, small amounts blood in stool three times.
-Frequent trips to urinate with uneven flow all the time.
-Have had slight occurances of heartburn.
-One week after 12 days treatment was over the pain returned more and more and I started to peel on my face without being in the sun, without redness and I have been well hydrated.
-Maybe depressed but may also be caused from needing to cancel scuba diving trip due to condition.
Starting to take 6 day pack again for returning pain. Wish me luck...thanks

Okay, I recently made a post on July 26th about how I loved Yasmin and have not had a problem with it. I would now like to revoke that post. Since I wrote that I have been feeling totally crazy! I snap at my 2 year old son, my fiance and my coworkers. That is not me! I do not do things like that. I'm usually a very happy person and very strong emotionally. Lately the most stupid stuff has me crying my eyes out. I seem to pick fights with my fiance, which I don't do. We never fight. And it was only last night that I sat down with him and told him that I feel like I'm going insane. We thought about it and the only thing that has really changed in the past 6 months is the fact that I started taking Yasmin. We discussed it and I have decided to stop taking this BCP for at least a month to see what happens with my mood. I'm hoping it works. If anyone has any suggestions about how to do this smoothly, please let me know. And good luck to you all!

I'm so happy I found this site. I've been thinking I'm crazy or just getting old for the last 3 years while on Yasmin. I started taking it at age 29 and almost immediately after started having mood swings, extreme irritability and depression. I had previously been on Ortho Tri Cyclen and the Ortho Cyclen before Yasmin and was on them for MANY years and never had one side effect. I only switched in the first place because I like to have very very few periods and I run all my active pills together to forgo periods very often and I was having breakthrough on the Cyclen. Hence, the Yasmin trial.
I'm actually a doctor (which is why I CANNOT have frequent periods with all the accompanying issues), but I didn't even realize the possible connection between IBS and Yasmin. This needs to be studied and taken seriously. I never once had IBS symptoms until a few months after starting Yasmin. Now, 3 years later I have almost constatnt trouble, to the point everytime I eat I run for the bathroom, yet my weight has never been higher. I asked a GYN friend at work if they could be related and she said definitely no, but reading all of these "real life" examples, coupled with my own experience has made me think otherwise. Often, the symptoms will occur shortly after taking the pill, even when I haven't yet eaten breakfast. It's crazy!!
I'm going to switch either back to Ortho Cyclen or to something new ASAP and will report back. I'm both excited at the thought that my "IBS" might really be Yasmin related but also scared that it might not go away and therefore might really be IBS. I'll report back... It honestly never entered my mind that all of it could be the Yasmin. I had just moved, started a new job in a town I hate and I thought it was all stress related.
I've also had an interesting side effect no one has mentioned yet- my hair texture has dramatically changed. It isn't falling out, but has gone from VERY curly with a nice soft spiral curl pattern to very dry, straight and hard to manage. Nothing else has changed and now I'm wondering if it's not the DRSP. If pergnant women can have hair changes, why not women on the pill?? It's all hormones.
As always with a drug, there are always possible side effects. No one drug is perfect, and humans are so complex in their make up and they way they process drugs. Therefore, please don't judge your family docs or GYNs too harshly as not even the best doctor in the world can predict every side effect.

Recently, my phisician gave me some samples to take home for a lung infection. Was at Sams club getting the rest of the prescription filled and I took one of the 500 mg Levaquin she had provided.
Within seconds my inner lips felt funny, then started tingling and felt very odd. Sat down and sneezed about 40 times in a row. Face started to swell, eyes were sending out streams of tears, and blisters began to form on the inside of my mouth. I could not talk -- throat was closing. Very panicked, I croaked out to the pharmacist I was having trouble. Throught the fabric of my pants he injected an "epinephrine" pen dose, called 911 and (a first) ambulance ride to an ER. Had incidents of belng unable to take in air, or breath in or out, and was given more injections of epinephrine and I don't know what else. It was so scary. In the end I would say -- That pharmacist surely saved my life.

Hello Guest (msg 31031)
I went throught the exact same thing your daughter is going through and am still suffering (5 months so far). It always seems to be cyclic getting better than worse...
Is your daughter more estrogen based (softer features) or more testosterone based (masculine, etc). It seems that girls who are mroe testosterone based have the worst times getting off of Yasmin.
I don't know what the best advice to give you because if I say to wait it out, the lenght of time to get better might severly affect her mind and cause other problems.... You might want to discuss with a gynocologist to put her back on a pill that is opposite of Yasmin... more progesterone based.. then as she improves I feel that she might have a much easier time to get off this type of pill rather than Yasmin.
For me, I am trying a low dose of Prozac (10mg) to help with my severe digestion problems. I absolutely refused ssri's before thinking that time will heal everything but now at a point where I need to try something and I know that ssri's will not affect the hormone balance as much as bcp's.
Good luck and I will let everybody know how Prozac works on me.

Hi Everyone! I'm so glad I found this web-site. Today was my 6 th day on Yasmin and I woke up not myself. I took my temp twice cause I felt hot but I was fine and my body feels heavy like I have the flu. I'm angry and have been snapping too. Also I woke up with a very dry throat. Anyway I hate this pill. Why do I want to put myself throught this? Oh the reason I'm on it is to regulate my period. Maybe its not so bad, I'd much rather have my messed up cycle than feel like this.

I am a healthy, active 25 year old woman. Here is brief discription of my experience with the drug.
About 2 weeks ago, i was seen in the Er for a kdney infection, they immediately startedm me on IV levaquin, as well as an oral dose and an NSAID (which can cause a severe reaction). I was not given much literature on the drug, and the pharmacy printout was BLANK. The only warning I recieved about this medication was drug interactions (which they gave me in the hospital) and typical allergy stuff. They mentioned nothing about joint pain, or any of the other horrible effects of this medication.
3 days later I naoticed a little pain in my knee, and my back hurt. I thought nothing of this because I have had a previous minor injusry to that knee, and just thought it was another flare up. The next day, the pain was in both my knees and my ankles. I didn't know what to thiink.
I then researched the symptoms, and was shocked that the medication was causing this.
Now my right arm is pretty much useless(too much pain in my fingers, elbow and shoulder) And I have suffered a TIA (which is a mini stroke) No ease in the pain os of yet, and I just hope that I live throught this.

I was prescribed sulfameth/trimethoprim one week ago to treat a urinary tract infection. For the first four days I seemed to be ok although I was very tired and had a loss of appetite which I thought was due to the infection. On the fifth day, after my second dose I began running a fever. Throught the entire evening I experienced hot and cold flashes. I though that I was coming down with something since I have been working alot lately. The sixth day the fever started early. I felt dizzy, skittish and delirious. Again I was up all night with hot and cold flashes. I was suffering from joint pain and neck pain, red spots appeared all over my body. My eyes also became sore. The glands on the back of my neck and behind my jawbone became extremely swollenOne of my co workers looked at my prescription and told me that I may be allergic to sulfer. Since I was already at the end of the medicine and the infection almost gone I decided to try taking benedryl and tylenol. The fever has stopped as well as the dizziness and delirium. The red spots seem to be going away and I have an appetite again. I still feel a bit tired and my neck is still swollen but I dont' want to start all over again on something else. In the future I will tell my doctor that I am allergic to sulfer and cannot take this medication..

After taking statins (Provacol, Lovastatin, Lipitor, and Zocor) for over 4 years and having strong muscle pains throught out my body, I stopped taking statins.
During this time the doctor tested me for everything else. I started taking Celebrex to stop the pain. It greatly reduced it.
However, i stopped Celebrex after how it might affect heart patients was made known.
Now 2 months after I stopped Lipitor, 95% plus of my pains are gone. I did not realize how severe they were until i stopped. one can get used to pain, but it does negatively affect you without you being consciously aware of it.
I now aggressively use diet and exercise to control my cholesterol. a better solution in all aspects.
when I started statins, i had no apparent side affects like muscle pain for about 10-12 months. however over time the pain started kept building and spreading. Eventually my legs muscles, back muscles, chest muscles, hip joints, elbow joints, and knee joints all ached.
A friend of mine who had been taking Lipitor (20mg) for a little over a year, recently started having muscle pains.
What I do not understand is why this side affect is not better know and published.

On May 18, 2004, my doctor prescribed Levaquin for a sinus problem. I took one pill at 4 p.m. that afternoon and had a stroke that evening and the morning of May 19, 2004. It caused a blood clot to pass throught my brain stem and made my left arm and leg useless. I was in the hospital and out of work for 2 months. I have regained most of my functions but still have many side effects. This product, I also believe should be taken off the market.

just started taking it today. .05mcg synthroid. TSH was 135 very hypothyroid. I have 5 children, one only 4 months old. Can this stuff work quickly to restore my metabolism. I am literally pulling myself throught the day, and begging God for sleep at night. I was normal and healthy all my life, until now. I want to know if I'll ever feel normal again. The things I read on here have scared me. I hate anxiety attacks, weight gain, oh and do not want to lose my hair....Really concerned

I suffered with gastric reflux for a number of years not paying the attention i perhaps should have done. My reason for seeking medical advice that i found it increasingly difficult to swallow food. I had put it down to a psychological reaction. I reasoned that an episode some years ago caused a fear of food getting stuck in my thought, the thought sometimes seemed to trigger the response - ie the throat closing and quite literally stopping the food halfway down. The phenomenon became more and more frequent occurring almost every mealtime and making social eating a nightmare. Visited a specialist, had an endoscopy and found that the reflux had over a period of time caused a build of scar tissue in the throat, creating a ring of tissue which dramatically reduced the diameter of the throat. Specialist mad incisions into the tissue so it was flaps rather than a solid ring. sounds a bit grim but didn't feel a thing and a lunchtime sandwich a few hours later slipped down a treat.
it has been liberating being able to eat normally again. I am on these tablets or at least similar for the rest of my life so that the reflux does not burn my throat and build up scar tissue again. I do suffer from some of the side effects mentioned, - gas, blurred vision - which i hadn't realized was fairly common and put down to overuse of computer, tiredness. I guess there's no perfect remedy but I'd have to give it my vote. Strangely, before taking the drug i also suffered fairly regularly with dizziness and nausea - put down to labyrinthitis. It would seem the reflux and the connection between the throat and ear was the cause as the condition has disappeared. Sorry a bit long winded but a good site and good to know one isn't quite unique and suffering alone
