I've been on levothyroxine 150mcg for about 3 months before that it was 100mcg and so on. I have gain lots of weight and tired all the time. depression also, headaches. I hate this gaining weight, sleepy all the time and depression is from gaining weight. I thought this med is to up boost my thryiode but it doesn't seem to be working. my dr. said I'm on the highest dose there is. I don't know what to do any more. I was thinking about taking myself off this but not sure what will happen if i do. I hope there is someone out there that might be able to let me know if they are going through the same things what they are doing and how they feel now.

I had my Mirena put in May 2008. The procedure went well there were no issues but I do remember getting a headache that day and the day after. Really didn't think much of it even though I had never been a headache person. Now almost a year later I have been having headaches regularly. My GP said that it was probably stress. I thought not, I thought sinuses so I went to an ENT who told me I had no sinus issues. In addition to the headaches I was also feeling dizzy, in a fog and having memory issues. The GP told me I needed to have my eyes checked. Nope not my eyes. Not one to go the Doctor a drop of hat I just kinda gave up. But the memory issue and not being able to concentrate is getting worse. I finally mentioned it to my husband. I told him I was going to the OB/GYN next week with the hope that they would check my Thyroid because if you search the symptoms that comes back. My husband said what about the Mirena. Not knowing any better I searched Mirena side effects and I found this site. OH MY. All the symptoms I have been having someone here has also had. I feel so much better. I thought I was losing my mind. Thank you everyone for posting and shedding some light on this.

This morning I had the Mirena removed. Hooray! Before the removal, my doctor asked me why I wanted it removed. I explained the side effects I'd been experiencing. My doctor ordered a blood test before I left. She said a lot of the side effects from the Mirena could be associated with my thyroid. Great! Something else I have to worry about. The removal was painless and quick. The doctor told me to cough. When I coughed, she pulled it out and she was done. She showed the Mirena to me. Also while she was up there, she found a piece of a tampon. I couldn't believe it! Why didn't she see that last year when I had my annual gyno exam? I was so grossed out.

I already feel so much better and it's only been a couple of hours since removal. I don't know if it's a mental thing or not. I have a little spotting. I don't know when I'm going to get my first period. I feel like I'm going to be on stand-by until it finally happens. I've decided to stay away from hormonal birth control for a while. My annual women's exam is at the end of the summer so hopefully I will have come to a decision on what I want to do next.

I have had Mirena for about three months and I want it out now. I have had stomach cramps everyday, headache everyday, bleeding for no reason (all the time). My hair is coming out in clumps after my showers, and I have started to have blurry vision. Sometimes I feel like I cant even focus on something. My back hurts all the time and I feel sick every day. I have an appointment to "talk" to the doctor about it, and when I go there I will tell him to remove it then and there. If he doesn't, I will make it known that I am not leaving until he does, or I will take it out myself right then and there!! That's how sure I am that all this is from this poisonous thing. I also have had a short fuse and feel so fancy all the time. I would not recommend this to anyone. Plus, isnt it illegal for them NOT to list all of the side effects in the brochure about Mirena, because Canada does; the US does not!! Good luck to all of you.

I had my thyroid removed 16 months ago. I had nodules and biopsies, but the biopsies couldn't tell if the nodules were cancerous or not---so I had the whole thyroid removed at my doctor's advice. I have been taking Synthroid and increasing the dosage---now up to 200---and I have gained 37 pounds!! I can't stand myself any more, none of my clothes fit,and I am so unhappy. I had gastric bypass surgery 9 years ago and lost 123 lbs. I had gained 20 lbs, but was stable for 7 years. Then I had the tyroidectomy and -boom- I'm fat again. I am really panicked. I don't want to gain all my weight back. It seems like I get fatter every day. My endo doesn't take me seriously, he says my thryoid is at the right level. I don't know what to do!!!!

I'm experiencing some VERY concerning symptoms and have a feeling it might be from the Mirena. And my doctors think it's just stress! SOMEBODY HELP!

I had a baby 4 months ago and at my postpardom appointment I was talked into getting the Mirena. After I had it inserted it all started with severe cramping and light bleeding that still has not subsided. I have been suffering with chronic headaches, dizziness, and facial numbness. I've also had bouts of anxiety and leg cramping and recently starting to have pain in my neck and one of my lymph nodes on my left side has become present and tender to the touch.

I mentioned all the these symptoms to my OB/GYN and he said "it's NOT related to the Mirena, go to your Primary Care Dr. and get some tests done" Well, I did that, got a full CBC and had my thyroid checked and all of my blood work came back normal. My Dr. said I am stressed after having the baby and to get some rest. I really wanted to have a CT done but after reading this I am beginning to think it's the Mirena as I had not had any of these symptoms prior to the IUD. I think i'll make an appointment to have it removed.

Anyone ot there have any of my exact same symptoms???

I needed Metoprolol Tartrate for a very high heart rate for graves desease, I was in the 115's+ lowered too 8o beats per min. Which is great!
BUT, having some horrid side effects.
BAD night chills, intolerance to cold. Shake for 3+ hours then sweat. Feels like I was hit by a train after then I get very nauseasous and light headed
Sleep is bad, toss and turn all night and have a greater fear of the dark
ALSO, my bones hurt all the time!! Never did before, had tests done nothing there.
This is the only drug I could find that didn't make my heart flutter and feel all funky. Its a great drug for just that. All the side effects suck..bad

I got the Mirena inserted in March of 2007. My midwife had warned me of bleeding in the first month but it lasted far longer than that. I also began to notice an increase in facial hair, acne on face, chest and back and a dramatic change in my weight. I have gained 20 lbs since May of 2007. I have been following a strict 1200 calorie diet and haven't been able to lose anything. My midwife has assured me that there is no correlation between the Mirena & the other symptoms so I decided to keep it in but during a routine Pap Smear the brush got tangled in the wire and pulled the IUD out. I'm starting to think someone must have been trying to tell me something. So here I am 2 days later w/o the IUD and I've been having heavy bleeding with lots of clots. I really don't care about the bleeding, I just want to lose the weight!!!

I must say that I HATE this medicine. I have been on it for about 30 years. Constantly like playing a game. Too much then too little. It is driving me crazy. I swear that I have tremors from it. I also have gain lots of weight and my hair falls out everyday. Surprised I am not bald yet. I use to be able to go to the gym for 5-6 days a week and now it is soooo hard to get out of bed in the morning.

I truly wish that there was something that I could do. I have had one side of my thyroid taken out and now have to go and get a ultra sound of the other side. Still cant figure out why the doctor took one side and not the other when the other side had nodules too.

I am so tired of it and just don't know what to do.

I do know that I will be definitely speaking with my endo and even if my levels are okay she has to do something to help me.

OMG! I have been on NR for 3 1/2 yrs. I too thought is was the best thing since sliced bread ;) That is until now. I am 29, married 4 years, with a 4 yr old son. I have NO sex drive. I mean ZERO. My poor husband goes MONTHS without sex. When we do, I am so dry that it isn't fun for either of us. This was not how things used to be. I am also tired and cranky all the time. My mood swings are terrible. I do have hypothyroid, and since all of these are common symptoms, I went to have my blood checked. Of couse, my thryoid came back fine. I thought I was loosing my mind. Thank god for this sight. After reading some of the withdrawl effects, I am worried. Any suggestions on a new BC?

I am 26 yrs old and I have been on Nuvaring for about 3-3 1/2 years. I thought this was the greatest thing not having to remember the pill and the short light periods. I have always sworn by this BC! I have been having side effects I never thought came from the ring until now. I have read a lot of the side effects others are having and I think my lack of sexual desire for the past 1 1/2 yrs. MAY be due to Nuvaring and not my getting married 2 yrs. ago. (lol) I also have headaches often, not bad ones but enough to carry Tylenol in my purse. And another is dryness before intercourse, that I never had a problem with 2 yrs. ago. I never put two and two together until I racked my brain and wondered why I struggled so badly with my lack of sexual desire. I could care less if I have sex or not! That just wasn't me 2 yrs ago! I just couldn't figure out what had changed, going back on any medicines I had taken the past 2 yrs., the Nuvaring is the only thing that was constant. I have a Dr. Appt today and I am going to discontinue use of the ring and see if the side effects subside like they have for some others. I will post again when I have an update. Please let me know if anyone else is having the side effects more than a year after using the Nuvaring!! Thanks!

Hi Girls,
I haven't posted in a while, but I was wondering how everyone was doing with the weight gain. I have now been off Yasmin for 1 yr. I am feeling really great, I am now back to being able to run/walk or rollerblade 4-5 miles a day 4-5 times a week. My cycles are more normal than ever. Not exactly 28 days more like 38, but I'm ok with that.

The thing that is still getting me is that I not only can't lose weight, I'm still gaining it. I think I have now gained 40 lbs. I am taking vitamin b as well as women's one a day. Don't really want to take any more drugs though.

I had my thyroid checked when I was on the pill and going through the awful hell, had most of the side effects you have all posted, tingling, chest pains, anxiety, the list goes on. But they said thryoid normal and of course nothing wrong with me. Like most of you went to a zillion doctors about a yr. ago. But decided I was just going to give my body time to get back to normal.

Has anyone had similar problems with their weight. I just don't get it, I couldn't feel healthier, or be any healthier with my activity and lifestyle, but I just feel like I'm getting bigger and bigger, and according to the scale I'm right!

Any thoughts would be great. Silke how are you feeling?
Thanks,
Hill

Off of Toprol
Re: Nov 26th entry: I visited my primary doctor after my cardiologist said my thryoid med was too high and that was the cause of my high BP. My cardio had put me on Toprol and I had some ugly side effects from it. Well, I gave my primary doc the hospital test results of my thyroid and he said, "But this is in the normal range. There's nothing wrong with your thyroid level." Ugh. Makes me question the cardiologist. I told my primary doc about the Toprol for heart palps, etc., and he took me off of it and onto Triamertine (sp?) which is not a beta blocker but a diurectic for high BP. I took 50 MG for a week, and visited my primary doc again. My BP was down to 100/something small. Can't remember. So he cut my dose of BP med in half. I'm still taking the lower dose of thyroid med until my primary doc can retest and get a handle on my true condition. Thyroid med takes up to 6 weeks to take affect, so it's too soon to test.
So now I don't really know what sent me to the ER with the high BP and arythmia - possibly a panic or anxiety attack. I have Xanax now for that, but have only taken it a couple of times. When I tried it, it pretty much made me sleep great, but don't want to become hooked on it.

So, I'm glad I'm off Toprol. I did not like it. I have a feeling my doc will eventually wean me off BP meds, as I'm losing weight, exercising, etc., to that end.

Oh, you definitely don't want to go off Toprol cold turkey. It can cause a heart attack, etc., is what I've read. I'm not a doctor!

I've been on Ovcon 35 since my son was born 2 1/2 years ago. I have experienced frequent migraines that consist of a pounding headache, nasauea, and blurred vision. When my symptoms first started my doctor mentioned switiching birth control, but I never did. I also found out that I had a thyroid problem at the same time fluctuating between hyper and hypo thyroidism. I am currently on medication for the thryoid and for migraines every day. I just stopped taking Ovcon 35 two weeks ago after reading this web-site and seeing other people were experiencing migraines. I don't know if it is the Ovcon causing these side effects.

I have been on tenormin for 19 years. I think it effected my thyroid. I was on it for 7 yrs, was tired and cold all the time. Was put on thyroid medicine. I am still cold all the time, read on-line that tenormin slows down blood flow to hands and feet and can cause coldness. Also having hair loss and anxiety. It appears that the tenormin affected my thryoid, the thryoid medicine causes the anxiety - and the cycle continues! **tenormin is also know as atenolol -- this website has more entries for atenolol side effects, I suggest you read them also**

I have been taking synthroid for 13 years. Had heart palpitations and irregular heart beat - ER dr put me on heart medication. I am seeing psycholgist for anxiety. He suggested that medication can contribute / cause my anxiety. Was doing research on-line for side effects and found this website. Good to know others have had similar side effects. I doubt I need to be on the heart medication since it seems that the synthroid may be the reason for the heart problems. Is there another thryoid med out there for hypothyroidism? All the dr told me was that it is a synthetic form of what my body normally produces - I had no idea it could have side effects or even contribute to other problems!

I read that zocor can affect lab values in thryoid function test. I am not sure if it is the zocor but ever since I have been on zocor sinc this past november my TSH levels have gone as low as 0.02 and are now as high as 31.4
The doctor assured me it isn't the zocor just my thyroid acting up. We have decreased my dosage of synthoid. I have an appointment with him in a couple of days and I will bring this up. I was wondering does Lipitor have the same side affect on Thyroid functions as I read zocor does and how does it affect the thryoid? I feel fine other than slight constipation
