Ok, I have PCOS and had the Mirena put in 3 months after the birth of my last child in 2004 and thought it was great. No more fluctuations never knowing when or if I was getting a period...I just never had one, have not had one in 5 years years. The strings disappeared several years ago, had an U/S and they said it was still in place. I have had zero libido in that time, terrible mood swings, fluctuating weight and depression, thyroid problems, etc etc, all put down to depression. Well 6 months ago the headaches started, the vertigo... the ensuing DR trips have turned up an abnormal brain MRI and not much else no one has thought to think of the IUD. The MRI shows possible demyelination, vasculitis or sequelae to migraines...these are little white spots in my brain. If I find out these things are caused by this IUD there will be hell to pay. I am due to have it removed at the 5 yr mark in November..... I guess dig it out if they can find the strings. Will be interested to hear comments on this.

I had a baby in May.I had the mirena inserted in the beginning of August. I began having night sweats and noticing a lot of hair loss at the beginning of Sept. I went to my Ob/gyn who said it couldn't be the mirena causing the symptoms. So I thought that maybe I had a thyroid issue.(After my last pregnancy I had post-partum thyroiditis, which caused my hair to fall out and night sweats). I had my levels checked, and sure enough my t4 levels were high. So, now I am waiting for my t4 levels to go back to normal and hope that's what was causing my symptoms, not the mirena. I have also read that the mirena can cause thyroid problems, so who knows what is REALLY causing my symptoms. My most recent symptom is numbness and pain in my wrist/hand. I'm thinking it is possibly carpal tunnel syndrome which can be caused by hypothyroidism. If you just had a baby and are having the night sweats, hair loss, heart palpitations, weight gain etc.... I would recommend getting your thyroid checked.

I have been on Yasmin for 2 years now. It is the only BC I have ever been on and have LOVED it up until about 3 months ago. All of a sudden I started having heart palpitations, sever chest pains, extreme fatigue, very bloated in my stomach, low sex drive, pain and tingling in my arms and legs, dizziness, shortness of breath, trouble swallowing, weight gain and major mood swings! I went to the DR and they did an EKG (which was normal) Tested my blood (I now have a thyroid problem that I have never had before) and they did an ultrasound (Dr that I may have a murmur) on my heart and the results came back fine. So the DR prescribed me Synthroid for the thyroid problem and the DR said that should help me gain my energy back, loose some weight and would take care of the heart palpitations. The other symptoms he contributed to Stress (Panic Attacks) I have been on Synthroid for 5 weeks now and I don't feel any better in fact I feel worse!
This morning I seen a commercial for a lawsuit against Yaz or Yasmin. Well since I am non Yasmin I immediately did a search and came across this site. I have literally been sitting here all night reading all the comments from different women and now know what my problem is. My problem is YASMIN! I am not taking this anymore and have an appt with my Dr tomorrow to have them do whatever they need to do to see if I have any blockage or any other damage from using this pill. My chest pains and the tightness in my chest are so severe that it takes my breath away and I am only 24! I am not ready for children and don't want to deal with bad periods like I had before getting on the pill but I can not take this rise. PLEASE if you are on Yasmin please stop taking it immediately and call your doctor Your life could depend on it!! I am hoping like other people who have commented that after a few weeks of being off the pill that I will feel so much better. I hope I am getting off of it in time before I have done any further damage.

i am 24 and i was on loestrin 24 for 8 months. at first i didn't notice any side effects but gradually i became lethargic, moody, and i lost my sex drive almost completely. none of those things described me in the slightest before i started taking this pill, in fact i used to wonder if pms was a myth...now i KNOW its so real.anyway because of the lethargy i was having i went to the doctor to see if maybe i was having thyroid problems, i wasn't but he did tell me that studies he has seen link hormonal birth control to breast cancer and advised me to get off the pill. kinda scary i know. i did quit and ive been off for about a month now and i swear its like night and day, im not moody, i have energy and my intimate life is back to normal, im so happy i quit.

I just got my second Mirena in May 2009- I had my first one five years ago, after I had my second daughter...I didn't' have any side effects from the first one, but this time is totally different. I have gained about 10 pounds in the last 3 months (not like me at all) and I feel depressed for the first time..and I also just took a pregnancy test because of the weight gain in my stomach- I'm considering having it taken out- does any one have any experience with only having side effects the second time???

I just turned "51"
I've been on Yasmin for the past 5 years.
I never have been on a birth control pill in the past as when I was a young teen I tried and couldn't handle the first side effects.
I have had a lifetime of the most HEAVY periods. I have to stayed glued to the toilet on my first two days.
I was diagnosed 20 years ago with ITP where blood platelets deplete. I thought my periods were so heavy because of this. I just couldn't take it anymore so my DR put me on Yasmin.
Yes at first my boobs were big and sore. But after 3 months I thought I had died and gone to heaven with a better life. Period so light.
BUT:
I've gained 40 lbs over this time frame. I look pregnant with the tummy Bloating. I've just had the most thorough physical, ultra sound for fibroids and everything came back normal except which never had previous: Borderline high Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure.
So, I've been power walking and never eat anything bad. ???? so why can't I loose even a pound?
Back in November I went off Yasmin for a month and had a period that hemorrhaged! So I went back on Yasmin. But I'm bloated now more than ever. I know it is the hormone changes.
I'm hooked on Motrin for my headaches which is like a sinus ache in my hear.... weird headache.
BUT: Hmmmmm I've had arthritic symptoms in my joints just over the past 4 years, severe Dry Eyes in the morning. All I googled is Bloated all the time and got Yasmin.
I'm in between pills and seriously think I need to just put up the the bad bleeding and get off the Yasmin. It is like quitting coffee, the headache is because of stopping the pill. I took one pill today even tho I have my period right now. My head is clearing up and I am feeling better.
I Don't think it is just Yasmin I REALLY BELIEVE WE ALL HAVE THESE SYMPTOMS WHEN THE HORMONES ARE IMBALANCED.
I Loved Yasmin for giving me back a life. But I'm so BLOATED right now I've got to try going off.
I do not take any other drug. I did a Candida cleanse but it didn't elevate the Bloating.
I will keep you all posted........

Hi, my name is Eva and I am 27 years old.
I am a mother of 2 and had Mirena IUD inserted a few months after my 2nd daughter was born. This was 3 1/2 years ago.
Since then I have developed Eczema on my hands (which is the least of my concerns). More importantly I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease (hyperactive thyroid function) last year.
I had developed a goiter on my neck (enlarged Thyroid) , my hair was very brittle & my eyes were always dry and itchy.
Since then I have undergone Radioactive iodine treatment to destroy my thyroid. Reading all of your posts seriously made me angry and I teared up because I definitely think that there is a link between Mirena and thyroid problems. It makes sense that your body would try and fight off any foreign object in your body and maybe that send the thyroid into a out of whack mode ?
I am currently researching if there are any clinical studies out there on this possible connection. If anyone would like to join me - pls. contact me at ******
I have an appointment to have my Mirena removed in a few days, I sincerely hope that it will make a difference in my health.
Best regards,
E.

I finally had the mirena removed today. It was in for 7 weeks or so - in the past couple of weeks i couldn't get a grip on anything w/ my hands being stiff - my back has gone from bad to worse, barely able to stand let alone keep standing. I gained 20 POUNDS!! in 7 weeks! and i was on a roll before insertion, losing all the baby weight plus some (i'd lost 15 lbs post-pregnancy)!I broke out all over my body in itchy patches, which the resident i spoke to said it wasn't possibly the mirena - though bayer had noted it in 5% of women who received it. When i told her i wanted them to remove it, she didn't look too surprised after all the symptoms and weight gain i'd described. So hopefully i'll be back to my old self in a few days - few weeks at most!
BTW:
When I described my symptoms, she suggested the testing for anemia and thyroid problems! - something that I've NEVER had issues w/ in any of the blood work I've had done in the past.

I have been taking Yasmin for 1 week. Before taking Yasmin, my stress levels were normal, no anxiety, energy was normal, etc. Within days I began noticing a change in my breathing patterns. I felt as if I could not get enough air. I would continue to yawn in order to get a 'good breath'. I felt like I was taking more short breaths. There seemed to be a constant pressure on my chest. Let me stress, A PRESSURE, not pain. This seemed to occur at all times of the day regardless of whether I was moving, resting, etc. I went back to my OB/GYN only to be told that 'It was anxiety, and I worked myself up. It must be my school, etc." This was so frustrating. I was a little apprehensive about the pill but I know I did not create such extreme anxiety symptoms overnight. In my experience hyperventilation from anxiety builds over time. That is not the cause for me. Please remember your doctor doesn't know your body like you do. Most often they dismiss 'side effects' and say 'It couldn't possibly be the medicine'. I've read more stories of girls complaining of a similar symptom and the doctor telling them... you're having anxiety and they end up on more medication. That's awful. I have found numerous articles on SYNTHETIC PROGESTINS which is what is in Yasmin causing increased breathing of Hyperventilation. I know Yasmin is the cause of this. My doctor was wrong. Now the question is, continue it... or not? It's extremely uncomfortable..so I'm unsure. I wanted to post this so other girls experiencing this side effect would know that it IS the YASMIN!!

I've taken Yaz for the past 18 months. It was fine the first few months, then I started to get severely depressed - suddenly and for no reason. I had a hard time wanting to live, despite the fact that I have the "perfect" life as a stay-at-home mom, 2 kids and a wonderful husband. I also would feel like crying quite often for no reason. Everything else was fine: regular periods, good skin, no weight gain.
I recently quit yaz, about 6-8 weeks ago because of the mood swings. This is how I feel nearly every day since: shaky, crazy in the head, headaches (which I never got before), full of anger and outbursts at my children & husband, jittery and sleepy in the afternoon (like I have low blood sugar or something). I really feel like I'm going crazy. I'm going to go see my doctor this week to see what's up. I was considering hypoglycemia, diabetes, or thyroid problems, so I'm glad I found this site and considered yaz as the culprit.

I was on the Depo Lupron for 4 months. I had all the typical side effects; hot flashes, acne, night sweats, and weight gain. All which I was told by my Doctor that are all normal.... I asked if there were any other major side effects and he said some, but with a very low occurrence and left it at that. Well, I started gaining more weight... I put on 15 pounds in less then a month. I had a lump on the side of my throat and couldn't figure out why I was so tired all the time, why my hair was falling out, and why my skin was so dry. I went online and read a little more about the drug and it's side effects. Yep, right there it said it was known to cause thyroid problems. So now I have to live with hypothyroidism, something that is manageable, but will never go away. All because this drug. I say if you don't need to take it, DON"T!

Hello Again. I'd like to correct my earlier statement regarding the migraine. The terminology is "migraine with aura" (it still hurt like a son of a b*^$& no matter what you call it). I'd also like to update you all with an interesting finding from my Dr. app the other day...it appears that I have "hyperthyroidism" which can, in fact, cause many of the symptoms that I've been experiencing. It may be a good idea, for those of you who haven't already done so, to have a complete blood workup, including thyroid tests, to rule out possible root causes for many of these symptoms. I need to undergo further testing (which is just how a Mom wants to spend her precious "free-time" eh?) but I'm still keeping Mirena high on my list of culprits! Best of luck!

ALERT!!!
If you have been having any one of these side effects, then AcipHex may be causing nerve damage.
-- tingling or numb hands or feet
-- confusion / "fuzzy head"
-- ringing in the ears
-- vision changes
-- anxiety
-- depression
-- apathy
-- fatigue
It may be serious. In my case it certainly is. I can barely use my hands. Why it happens:
AcipHex cuts down on stomach acid. Sometimes it cuts down too MUCH acid. In that case, you are unable to break down animal products enough to absorb vitamin B12 from it. Without vitamin B12, your nerve sheathing erodes. My advice would be to stop AcipHex and get a good vitamin B12 supplement (sublingual -- the type that dissolves underneath your tongue, and at least 1000 mcg). I would also advise to get the book -- Could It Be B12? By RN Sally Pacholock. Before starting supplements, insist on a urinary MMA test. It is the only B-12 test that does not give false positives or negatives often.
This book has literally saved my life.

Hi,
I have been on Cilift for anxiety and depression for 13 years. I also have hypothyroidism so am on Eltroxin every day. I have been on Urbanol for a while but it was not helping the extreme anxiety. I was prescribed Seroquel and have been on it for 3 weeks. My anxiety seems to be far worse, especially in the mornings but it does help me sleep at night. Stilnox sleeping tablets were not working. I have a pain in my chest, severe headaches, tingling feeling in my hands and a 'funny head'. I am on Yasmin as I have the Mirena but it does not work. The Mirena is still fitted. I have now read on this site (thank goodness I came across it) that both these cause extreme anxiety. I have now stopped the Seroquel and plan to stop the Yasmin and have the Mirena removed. If you have any similar experiences please comment.

Okey-dokey. I guess they deleted my post because I included my email address. So here it is again...
There is a class action lawsuit in the works against Bayer pharm. regarding Yaz & Yasmin. There are many women you have had heart, lung and/or thyroid problems, myself included. If you are interested in more information I can put you in touch with the firm conducting the lawsuit. Please send me a private message.

I had a Kenalog shot about a month ago, due to having more phlegm than even the doctor could believe. My allergies are heinous. However, I felt no relief from the congestion or mucus from the shot. (He also put me on Nasacort, which I've noticed, in my week of use, has improved things slightly.)
Anyway, for about a month, I've been feeling exhausted. This remarkable fatigue has been plaguing me. I can't get out of bed, I fall asleep any time I sit still for too long. And I get plenty of sleep.
So here I am, on the internet, looking up causes, thinking I could have thyroid problems or cancer. Until my chiropractor mentioned that it might be the shot. So I researched it, and have seen that other people are having fatigue and sleeping problems, as well. Now I think I know the cause.
In conclusion, the shot rarely helps anyone and mostly only causes problems. I suggest moving to California for allergies.

most of you sound like you have thyroid problems or are on too high a dose.
I have been on Methadone for 40 years. Now 90mg. a day it's expensive...300 a month for once a month regardless of dose. I go once a month because I never use other drugs.
The biggest problem is getting off.
after 6 to 10 years, you can't unless you replace it with other drugs. I run a fortune 500 company, so it shouldn't effect your lifestyle.
My first year on methadone, I totaled 4 new cars.....you learn not to drive a hr. after your take your dose if it's high. Don't learn the hard way.

I am 19 years old and have had Mirena since May 2008. I really struggled with the cramps and continuous bleeding for the first two months. My menstrual periods became less and less until I hit my year mark of having it. NOW, if I'm around a girl friend for more than a few days, I automatically get my menstrual period the same day she will and it will last for 8 to 10 days. I thought I wasn't supposed to get my period after a year of having Mirena?!! I've really enjoyed not having to worry about taking a pill every day or putting a new patch on every week and hope it stays on.... BUT, a year and a half of constant acne, the freshman 15, the anxiety, the decreased sex drive, the abdominal cramps are really starting to take a toll on my mental health!
-- By wigrl23 | Reply | Private Message meI recently have developed new symptoms of excessive sweating in my armpits, loss of interest in doing things I used to love, joint pain, thin peeling nails, dry skin, cold intolerance. I mentioned these things to my mother the other day on the phone and she reminded me that thyroid problems are very congenital in our family. I have a doctor appt in 2 days for a blood test. If all goes well, I may just have to say goodbye to Mirena. Its been 100% effective for me in the past year and a half, but I can't handle the excess fine-print bullshit that comes with it!!!
