I was on LIPITOR for 5 weeks. Am fit 60 year old Nurse. I had pain in my heel like a spasm and also near my Hip. Tiredness, Lack of concentration blurred vision and a level of deafness. I stopped taking Lipitor 1 week ago and energy levels returned to normal already. No more spasm pain. However still have blurred vision and the deafness. Anyone know how long this may take to improve?
I am on Oroxine for low thyroid function and maybe this is a contributing factor.

i have just been diagnosed with auto-immune hypothyroidism and have been prescribed 25-Eltroxin sodium. I've also been trying to conceive. At the time of starting my medication I was coming up to ovulation. On day 13/14 of my cycle I was worried as I noticed significant breakthrough bleeding (bright red/with clots). I am waiting for my temperature to go up to show that I've ovulated but it hasn't happened yet. My bleeding is lighter now, 5 days on and brown in color. Can anyone explain how/if thyroxine can cause this as I've never had mid-cycle bleeding before. I have been bleeding for 4 to 5 days now and its not as heavy as it was. What is happening to me?

I started taking thyroxine about 6 weeks ago - i went to the doc with tingling fingers, bloods showed tsh 34 so doc gave me 50mg thyroxine. Felt awful within a few days i was getting palpitations and felt like my skin was crawling. I couldn't bear even the slightest noise. I had diarrhea (cant spell) fast heart rate, the shakes and couldn't handle lots of people in a room. I am a teacher so it became difficult for me to work. I went up to 100 it got worse, until in the end I decided to stop them.
I am going to wait and see but I would rather be hypo than have these symptoms, my doc said you will feel great soon, pah what a load of c%%%

I can't believe I've stumbled on this website. Until now my symptoms did not make sense to me.
I had my Mirena in 2005 after the birth of my son. My life has changed dramatically since then & I didn't put it together until now. I was plagued by nasty vaginal discharge from the start. Though my period stopped completely what replaced it was a terrible vaginal odor that no amount of washing, deodorant spray, etc will cure. It's a bacterial infection that will not leave me alone. I almost always have it. Before the Mirena I never heard of it. My sex drive & sensation is virtually none. I even went as far as having a female piercing as I read it increases sensitivity. This is upsetting as I've never had problems with odor, loss of sensitivity or inability to achieve orgasm. Along with this I've experienced a large weight gain, abdominal bloating, migraines, aching joints, decrease in vision, back pain, dizziness, exhaustion, increase in body hair growth yet limp thinning hair, & fibroids.
I have an appointment in July to get this thing out & wish I had been more informed of the side effects.

I have just come across this site, while looking to find out why I have been experiencing heart palpitations for the past two months - out of the blue!!! and usually "exercise" induced. I had some tests and have been told they are Premature Atrial Contractions "PACs". I started taking Yasmin in April, after having tried others over the past year (tri-cyclen lo and alesse) which did not work for me as the progestin was not strong enough. I am in my 40s and never took the pill before. Yasmin was great, it significantly reduced my "physical" pms (severe inflamation, severe bloating, severe sore breasts) which I experience for 2-3 weeks a month. However, sometime in mid to late June, I started getting palpitations/tremors out of the blue. The first episode freaked me out and lasted for about two weeks. At first I thought it was allergy medication mixed with my thyroid med, which can happen - but I cut out the allergy meds and still got them. They seem to come about 6hrs to a day after I fexercise/figure skate and they last from 2 to 5 five days. It's very irritating and nerve wracking, and I feel very agitated. I am also out of breath more than usual when walking up stairs, a little light headed and have some tightness in the chest. My legs also are weak, which makes no sense given my exercise regimen. I then lowered my thyroid replacement from .125 synthroid to .100 - too much thyroid med can cause some palpitations. Anyone who has mistakenly taken a second thyroid pill having forgotten that they already took one will understand. Even with the lower dose I am still getting the palpilations. I am totally at a loss as to why all of a sudden this is happening to me (perhaps perimenopause??). I have had the odd flutter here and there in my live, but nothing like this. It just doesn't make any sense ag ll. Can one's health just change like this overnight?. I am otherwise healthy, slim, have "lower" blood pressure (apprx 100-90/70-60)I skate 3 to 5 times a week, I have a full time job and yes I do push myself, but this is getting ridiculous. The only thing I can attribute it to is the Yasmin, ... but my symptoms only started after a few months not instantly, whereas it would seem that most of the the women here noticed the side effects faster. I hate to stop the Yasmin because I will have to return to pms "hell", but I suppose I will give it a try to see if the palpitations subside. At this point, I have been offered a low dose "beta blocker" and have refused. I am stunned to think that all of a sudden I have heart issues, especially since my Dr has always kidded me my that I will never have heart problems with my blood pressure. I will stop the Yasmin tonight and post another message in a few weeks one it is out my system. Here's hoping it is the Yasmin.

Hi everyone
I've been on Levothyroxine since August 2006. Eversince being on them I actually feel worse. I've always weighed 7 and 1/2 stones and I've actually put on half a stone since last August. I watch what I eat and I exercise regularly. Recently I had an increase in my thyroxine to 75mcg and my tummy bloated so badly I looked pregnant. GP has dismissed all this and said he didn't know what it was! I spoke to a rude woman on the phone at British Thyroid Foundation who was extremely rude and unhelpful. She said it wasn't the medication and blamed it on my thyroid! How can it be me when my weight has always been the same? I've never had problems like this before and the more sites I've visited on the net, I've actually found that so many people are unhappy on thyroxine and a lot of them experience bloating and weight gain. so something definately is taking place inside us and the Doctors are ignoring it. Its this medication thats making us worse and we are their guinea pigs and in the years to come they will admit they are in the wrong. There are so many thyroid sufferers and it's all about fobbing us off on cheap stuff. Well all those who don't care about us may it happen to them so they realize how and what we have to go through every single day. I am looking into alternative natural medications and am trying to also change my diet to help. We are stuck cos thyroxine is for life. We are all in the same boat and we have to raise this issue. A good website is thyroiduk.com
The good thing is we are all doing our research into this matter and more we are knowledgeable in this matter the better it is for us. I know Armour works for a lot of people but I can't take Armour.

hi anna,
you asked if anyone had had thyroid problems whilst on yasmin???? i had a hypothyroid before i started taking yasmin due to autoimmune hashimotos. my levels had been the same for 2 years before i started to take yasmin, with 8 months of taking yasmin i needed my dose upped twice so there is definately a link. thyroxine is a hormone so i suppose that it stands to reason that all our hormones may well be affected not just the estrogen and progesterone levels in our body. birth control pills also seem to affect the neurotransmitters in our brains that control seratonin, dopamine and melatonin, that would explain the depression, anxiety and emotional instability a lot of us suffer from too.

hi dejay78,
snap on the greasy skin and hair, mine was really bad for a while.it is settling down a little now. i use ketsugo gel to help control the oily skin. i am still having problems with spots but that is the least of my concerns,i am just happy that i am getting better. you asked about how much magnesium to take. 350-500 a day should be enough to get your levels back up,you may need this dose for a month or two then you may be able to reduce it. you should also aim to take about 50-100mg b6 daily then reduce it down when you feel better. there is some suggestion that you should not take calcium and magnesium at the same time as they compete for absorbsion but it's up to you. i too had my thyroid checked after i stopped using the yasmin, mine was in fact hypo not hyper.i have hashimotos disease so was being treated with thyroxine but my level had been stable for years, now i have been off yasmin for 7 months i have been able to reduce my dose again...i guess that as thyroxine is a hormone maybe it is affected by birth control pills. i am sure you will see some improvement soon,as i said in my previous posting distraction techniques really help with the anxiety, keep busy or read a gripping book, you will see that when you are occupied you do not think about how you feel. i used to love having a rest and a lovely day dream,it sounds funny but it really helped me. A word of caution on the magnesium, too much can give you diarreah! you could try some camomile tea before bed to calm you and help you to relax,i have a few cups throughout the day and it helps.
best wishes.

hi sophie,
sorry to hear you are still suffering so badly, were you on yasmin for long? i was on it for 1.5 years and have been off now for nearly 6 months like you. i think it depends how long you took yasmin and how badly messed up your hormones have become. i'm not sure if i have replied to you before (i think i have ) have you had your thyroid checked? i ask this question of most people who are still feeling bad. your thyroid levels (tsh) should be in between 0.3 - 3.0 .most people feel best around 1 - 1.5. my thyroid was out of whack whilst on yasmin so i had a dose increase (i have hashimoto's) when i had my test 1 month ago it showed that i needed my dose reduced again so bcp's definately can effect thyroid function. thyroxine is afterall a hormone so it is quite likely that it has been effected too. Your periods could be an indication that all is not right with the thyroid. underactive tends to cause depressive feelings, muscle pain and heavy periods and also headaches. yours may be fine but it is worth ruling it out. the previous poster recomended prozac..i know nothing about it or any other anti-depressants as i never took them (apart from a short time on diazepam for my anxiety/panic attacks) but as she says if you are still not finding any relief from your symptoms it might be a route to consider (do rule out the thyroid 1st though). i read many helpful books that helped me learn to handle my anxiety/panic attacks and that has done wonders for me,even if i have a few bad days i KNOW they will get better and i just use what i have learned to work through it,it's not easy, some times are worse than others but i know i am getting better slowly. i hope this will be the case for you and that you will start to see some improvement in your symptoms. with regards to your periods it may be a sign that they are trying to regulate themselves again.mine were 28 days for the 1st 2 cycles but now can be anything up to 38 days apart and are so light they are gone within a day or 2. my periods were always regular as clockwork before i went on yasmin. even after i had my last child and breastfed for a year. as soon as i stopped feeding her my periods came back at 28 days on the dot, then i started taking this rubbish.
best wishes to you sophie.

II have been taking Lisonpril at 5, 10, 15 and 20 mg doses for the better part of a year. I have gotten over the cough but it does not seem to lower my BP that much and have experienced severe nervous reaction to the drug. !0mg is about all I can tolerate. My Doctor wanted me to keep increasing the dose up to 40 mg if I had to. When I reached 20 mg twice things got worse with no significant decrease in BP. I also began to experience a pain in my fingers as if I had arthritis. I take a dose in the morning and then about mid morning to Noon my ears begin to tighten up, some slight light headedness and I get nervous. Some of these nervous attacks have actually exasperated the BP problem by raising it. The Doctor prescribed some Xanex to take when this happens but do not want to get too hooked on taking it.
I also take Vitamins and Thyroxine(Synthroid) and wonder if there could be some interaction with this.
Has anyone experienced these symptoms especially the nervous reaction and light headiness??

My wife was put on Lithium about 2 years ago for only about 6 months and frankly I saw no improvement or change.
We were assured that any decrease in thyroid activity would only be temporary however despite never having any thyroid problems before she was started on 25 micrograms of thyroxine to compensate for lack of thyroid activity. It is now up to 100 micrograms with no anticipation of any improvement.
Although there seems to be no evidence of it causing permenant damage I wish now that she had never been started on it.

Hello all: I am from Domincan Republic, and i am taking levothyroxine for about 3 years, i have been on different doses, first on 0.1 MG then on 0.05 MG then back to 0.075 but i will try to decrease my dose to 0.05, let me tell you something all: All meds have second effects, the thing is that if your thyroid doesn't produce enough thyroxine you DO NEED TO TAKE IT, because without levothyroxine you will probably get fat easy, get bloated, feel sluggish etc. Face it illnesses do not cure themselves. Just ask your doctor to adjust your correct right dose not too high nor too low

have been taking Atorvastatin for 5 months, prescribed by the hospital after I was hospitalised for 3 days following a minor stroke. I was prescribed 20mg which I took for about three and a half months. I felt dizzy a bit and believed this was side affects from my stroke. My cholesterol was 6.2 which is considered quite high. I decided to cut down the dose to 10 mg as I hate taking drugs of any kind and a friend of mine who has low thyroid like me ( we are both on thyroxine) told me that she had been told that one should not take statins with an under active thyroid. This is why I reduced the dose. Having found this website I am beggining to realise that the shoulder and neck pain that has developed over the last months and also an increase in the dryness to my eyes and a swollen finger joint - could all possibly be due to Atorvastatin. I have now stopped taking the drug -- my shoulders are just beginning to feel easier now , I await relief from my swollen painful finger-- will let you know results.

I was on 1 mcg generic levy thyroxine - manufacturer - Mylon.
My doctor switched me to Levoxyl 1.12 mcg - manufacturer - Monarch-james.
My TSH was 4.28 and the doctor said that he would like to see it in 3 range and bumped my dosage.
Since this change, I have started to loose hair and feeling aches in hip and my bones are brittle. My fingers in both hand and leg hurt too. I am feeling bloated, started having diareah for last two days.
I feel more energetic though but am not getting sleep quick.
Is the change in manufacturer is a mistake my doctor made. or Levoxyl it self has lots of issues. I understand that they are both levythyroxine.
Can some body expain what I need to do. I have been having panic attacks and severe anxiety too.

I've been on levothyroxine 150mcg for about 3 months before that it was 100mcg and so on. I have gain lots of weight and tired all the time. depression also, headaches. I hate this gaining weight, sleepy all the time and depression is from gaining weight. I thought this med is to up boost my thryiode but it doesn't seem to be working. my dr. said I'm on the highest dose there is. I don't know what to do any more. I was thinking about taking myself off this but not sure what will happen if i do. I hope there is someone out there that might be able to let me know if they are going through the same things what they are doing and how they feel now.
