Just started taking lisinopril (2nd dose today, 20 mg) for HBP. I have had HBP for about 15 years. I was taking HCTZ, a diuretic, plus atenelol. That stuff makes you feel miserable, depressed, paranoid along with major constipation and very low potassium blood levels. I changed doctor and he has a completely different approach. So far my only side effect from lisinopril has been slight weakness in my lower jaw and the nagging dry cough. I guess you have to get used to these and other side effects. Anything is better than being depressed. Maybe the side effects will lessen as time goes by. I'm optimistic.

Wow, I'm so glad I found this website. I am not an anxious person, so when I began feeling really anxious and having heart palpitations it was really unusual for me, but I figured it was something situational. I never suspected Yasmin. I wanna go off of it, but am concerned about the side effects people have had in going off. Can anyone share how long it took to feel "back to normal" after going off of it, and anything that helped in the meantime. Thanks so much.

I have been taking Lamictal for just over a year. Some of the side effects have been noticable for a few months, but others seem to just be appearing and getting worse. I have loss of balance and coordination, my vision is gettng worse, I have a hard time concentrating and finding the right words, I forget how to spell common words, I have short-term memory loss and feel spacey. I can always figure it out, but it takes longer. I began doing Pilates every day about 3 months ago and still cannot get the routine down and it is just as hard for my muscles as it was in the beginning. I can't seem to lose weight and have horrible acne on my face. I had 2 seizures before beginning Lamictal and am suppose to be on it for 2 years before trying to go off. Without insurance though, I am unable to do follow-ups w/ my neurologist and she seems unconcerned and unsypathetic to my situation, not giving me the time of day. She never even told me all of these side effects could develop, much less that they might begin long after I started taking Lamictal. Has anyone had these side effects after having taken the Lamictal for so long then stopped taking the Lamictal? Will these side effects go away after I stop taking it??

Please be careful when using this drug!!!!! My daughter is 4 years old and was on Singulair for a 1 1/2 years to control allergies and Asthma. She was also on 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of Zyrtec. She lost the last year and 1/2 of social and emotional growth. She became angry, aggressive, hyperactive, disconnected from reality, uncommunicative. She was deliberately hitting, scratching, etc. unprovoked. She retreated into a fantasy world where there was alot of "killing" and other scary things. The other kids were scared of her. Her teacher, who has over twenty years of teaching in a University Laboratory school (she knows what she is doing) said that her behavior was the most extreme she had ever seen. I took her to the Pediatrician, to a child Psychologist, and to a Physiciatrist. They were thinking ADHD and maybe Bi-Polar or ODD or worse...we were very scared. The Pediatrician said, no the drug could not be causing this. This site helped me to realize that maybe it was the Singulair. Psychologist, physiciatrist and allergist all said, yes it could be the drugs. We got her allergy tested and she was extremely allergic and started allergy shots. We took her off the Singulair and Zrytec and starting seeing changes in her behavior within a week. It has now been 5 weeks and our little girl is back...she is smiling again, happy!! and communicating! We can have a conversation with her now! It is amazing. Everyone has noticed the difference..her teachers, Dr.'s, etc. She has had a few outbursts and some hyperactivity since but they are diminishing as time goes by. I just wonder how long it will take for all the effects to be gone and how much work we have to do to teach her all the things she missed developmentally over the last year and 1/2 while her mind my blocked by this drug. They should take it off the market. It is frightening. Please beware!!!!!!!!

I have recently been hospitalized for diverticulitis and was on Leqquin 500 Mg and Metronidazole 500 mg. From the 2nd day of medication I began to have a lot of aching expecially in shoulders and hips. I just thought that my arthritis was acting up as I was in active. Symptoms became worse each day and finally on the 7th day they were intolerable and I looked up info on the computer and was horrified at what I found. I stopped the Rx and after a week was able to see my doctor. She assured me that the Rx was not the problem and it was indeed my arthritis but as time goes by my symptoms have decreased by have not gone away. This goes on my list of Rx not to ever take again. I believe it is very dangerous to some people and I am one of them.

hi guest 36372,
i set up the new forum precicely so that people could chat and carry on personal correspondance and leave this site for posting factual information and personal stories as well as seekng advice as i agree that the site has become very hard to find answers from if you are a newcomer. i have been "advertising" daily to keep the link where regular visitors and newcomers can see it because it was only set up on friday and many people are not aware of it yet,as time goes on it will not be necessary to post the link. we have quite a few members already. i am sorry if this has offended you in any way but a lot of ladies on here just need some support and understanding and maybe just someone else that understands how they are feeling to chat too. i do not make any money from the new site,it is not a business it is just something i wanted to do to help people who want help and understanding. i am glad that the information you have found in the guests long postings have helped you, that is precisely the point of this site,if you want to chat about what you have discovered then please come to the new site. i won't post the link as it is on this page already.
I thought that a new site was needed to share personal experiences instead of clogging up this page, kind of like a yasmin support group...as the TV advert says it's good to talk!
once again,i wish you all the best,if you find out anything that could help all the other ladies please post it here and the new forum,we should all be doing as much as we can to help each other get through this nightmare.
Oh and in answer to your question about the chest pain,i get that too, especially before my period, sometimes it goes into my shoulder too and i feltl i am having a heart attack! my pulse races for a while then calms down but skips a few beats here and there,i had an ecg done and was told everything was fine,it was just anxiety, but my doctor would say that as he does not believe that yasmin caused any of my problems anyway. There are lots of reasons why your heart may feel this way but no definative answers,it is all if's but's and maybe's. it could be to do with dehydration, could be to do with lack of magnesium or it could be a surge or lack of the correct hormone peaking at the correct time. the truth is only time will tell, hopefully it will start to improve soon.
best wishes.

hi syberlib. great ode to yasmin the "peril in pill form" !
i find it really weird that some people get symptoms when they stop yasmin, did you have any troublesome symptoms whilst taking it?
i was the opposite. i had dizziness, insomnia, depression,MAJOR anxiety, panic attacks, tingling and jumping limbs and restless legs as well as a sense of being smothered then there was also the ever present headache! as soon as i stopped taking it within days i felt phsically much better.the palpitations got less and less as did the headaches and the jumping, shaky feeling. The anxiety is proving to be a tough customer. although it is still there it is manageable most of the time and certainly getting less as time goes on. i have been off yasmin 8 months now. maybe age and childbirth are factors,i had taken dianette on and off since i was 14 up to the age of 22 and i never had a problem with it.never gained weight, got spots, heavy periods, nothing,it was perfect although i never stayed on it for more than 18months at a time as i have always been a little worried about the long term effects of messing with nature! i did not go back onto BCP's after the birth of my 1st child, A) because i didn't know when i wanted to start trying for my second and B) because my sex drive had gone into "park" i just couldn't be bothered so it seemed like a waste of time being on bcp's. after i had my second child i breast fed for a year then my doc put me on yasmin the new "wonder drug" he was right about the "wonder" part. within six months i "wondered" what the hell had happened to me. i was a shaky, poorly mental wreck.!!!!!
i have no idea what yasmin really does to the body but it has some really weird side effects. when i went to have blood tests when i was still on yasmin my blood was really thick,in fact the nurse asked if i was taking any blood thinning agents,i said no and she said i should be!! when i had another test 6 months after i stopped yasmin it was normal again as it had been before yasmin.??? not sure if it is linked but it was just another odd thing that has only happened whilst on yasmin. The heart flutterings also seem to be really common. i read a report on the side effects of yasmin i found on the english government site and it had a major number of pulmanary embolisms listed as reported effects, they were reported by medical staff not members of the public so some doctors somewhere know this stuff is poison. they pulled some of the older brands saying they caused blood clots and strokes etc but yasmin seems to be just as bad if not worse! i never heard of any of these side effects with the older brand of pill.the worst you got was a bit of bloating and maybe some weight gain and if you were one of the really unluck ones maybe a DVT.
once again i have ended up writting a hugely long post,i never mean to but once i start ranting about this devil in white i can't stop!

Sarah,
I live in the US. I totally understand your fear about taking hormones. For me though, the natural progesterone has made a huge difference. I don't know how long you have been recovering from Yasmin, but rest assured that as time goes on, you will get better. Two years ago was when I was at my worst. I checked this forum several times a day. It made me feel so much better to hear from other women going through the same thing as me. I don't think I've checked this forum for over a year until today, if that's any indication of how much better I feel. You will too. I also take a multi vit., fish oil & magnesium too. I think they help as well. Do what works for you. Wishing you wellness!

I have been off Yasmin for two months now. I feel better and better as time goes on. I'm not a puddle of tears anymore as I once was while I was on it. I also stopped losing hair and my sex drive is coming back.
Since i haven't gotten my period since i stopped the Yasmin, my doc had to induce a period so that I could get my IUD inserted today. Wish me luck! I'll let you know how the Copper (Non-Hormonal) IUD works out!!
Cheers!

Hello Sophie,
I am exactly around 6 months also and yes feel the exact same way you do.. like I can't take it anymore... or maybe I should just get back on the bc pills and maybe that might help, etc.
I still suffer from bad digestion and anxiety problems. What is your main problem? For me it's like a total loss of well-being. I really am starting to notice a cycle though.. I seem to get worse right after my period for about a week, then get better (a little), and then worse again. How about you?
I am noticing that as time goes by, it gets a little (a very little) bit better. That to me is the hard part, knowing how slow progression seems to be.
I am trying to fight this with acupuncture, regular walks, spiritual healing (Sukyo Mahikari) and finally Prozac.
Yes, I know how everybody says they refuse to put another medication in their body, and "Oh, I am not depressed, etc" I thought the exact same thing! I was like no way in hell was I going to put another medicine in my body that can give me bad side effects, etc.
BUT, it has already been 6 months and being this ill with all the Doctors telling me they can't find anything... and suffering through each cycle was more than I could bear at that point. I did research and found that Prozac has been prescribed to treat PMDD (Pre menstrual dysphoric disorder) So I thoght if Prozac can help this hormone related issue, maybe it can help mine.
Also, Prozac has been shown to help 60 % of cases of digestion problems, which is exactly what I suffer from. Finally, being this ill for this long... with no answers or salvation is making me depressed anyway, which of course could lead to even more depression brought on symptoms!
Prozac is the best ssri as far as not being hard to withdraw from as it has a 9.3 long half life.
Well, I have been on it for 10 days know, and had ZERO side effects and can actually say that I have been improving a bit. Prozac is not like BCP's and AT LEAST it won't mess up your hormones like Yasmin did. It should help your anxiety, help your digestion issues and maybe knock your body back into the proper rhythm. I was before 100% Against anti depressents, but now I really do recommend it to you all who have been suffering for so long with no resolve. My regular Gastroenterologist recommended as well as my regular Dr. who normally does not like prescribing unnecessarily. He said that Prozac does seem to help a LOT of cases with minimal side effects.
So talk to your doctor and see what he/she says about Prozac. If you are like me and scared about side effects, don't be.. I started SLOWLY, by taking 10 mg. every OTHER day to start off. I had absolutely no side effects this way.
Well, I will continue to post and let everybody know about how Prozac is working, especially during my so called bad cycle.
Take care everybody!
Jen

My daughter is 8 years old. She has been on Advair for about three years (maybe four) and I have noticed over the years that she seems very irritable. This symptom is getting worse as time goes on, and I think it will develop into depression if I don't do something soon. Another symptom is weight gain. When my daughter started Advair she was at a normal weight for her age and had a normal appetite (her father and I are both normal weight). Now she is significantly overweight and never seems full. She is always saying" I'm still hungry". I have discussed these problems with her Pediatrician and he tells me not to worry, and that there is not enough steroid in Advair to cause the problems that I am concerned about. I trust her DR. but I am worried that he is ignoring significant problems. Has anyone else had these types of side effects or am I indeed the overimaginative mother that the Dr. thinks I am?

HI Ladies:
I just want to let you know that things will get better once you get off the Yasmin and let your body regulate itself. It will take time, but you will get there. I am 3 months post Yasmin after being on it for 7 months. Although I still have some fatigue, the other symptoms have gone away, most importantly the anxiety.
I credit a lot of rehabilitation to my nutritionist who is helping me to naturally cleanse out my body with herbal remedies. Just 3 weeks ago, I was still in pretty bad shape. Now 4 weeks after using the herbs, I am about 90% back to normal other than the minor fatigue that I still have.
For those of us in relationships, I think the best thing we can do is be up front and honest with our loved ones about what is going on. Tell your boyfriends or husbands what the Yasmin is doing to your system, apologize for any weird behavior, and ask them for their support and understanding.
There are days where you will feel okay, then days where you won't. But as time goes on you will start to have more good days then bad ones.
I would suggest that you get your Thyroid levels and adrenal levels checked as those are the two organs of the body that seem to deteriorate most while on BCP's. Those are the two areas that my nutritionist had me check. Once we got those results back, she was able to more accurately tailor my herbal program.
Praying that all of us feel like ourselves soon and get back to normal.
Sandra

Just started taking Yasmin last weekend and wow the side effects are awful. I feel sick to my stomache 24/7 and I can't sleep at all! The insomnia is brutal. Even when I do get to sleep I'm terribly restless and toss and turn like crazy. I know that they say these side effects should subside as time goes on but I'm not hanging in there. I feel like a zombie today. I haven't really slept in days and I feel like I'm in a total fog. No thanks! I would not recommend Yasmin at all. :(

I to recieved a kenalog shot one time only for poison ivy. Acouple of months later noticed the hole in my hip followed by pain in my hip. The hole in my hip filled in about a year later . Although the pain was getting worse. I had x-rays and the doctor showed me the ball joint of my hip was also partially deteriorated and now I have the beginings of arthritis. I take naproxen for inflamation every day now and my hip will only get worse as time goes by. This is not the way I planed my future, as I have for many years taken good care of myself. Eating right and running 2-3 miles a day 3 or more times a week. Trying to keep a good quality of life as I get into old age. With arthritis my future is certainly not as I planned. I wish I had not taken this shot, if I had been informed of the side affects Icertainly would"nt have. I contacted many lawers non would take my case. Iam 42 now and my doctor said I will probably need a hip replace in my future. Its only been 2 years since my shot. I would advise anyone who got the hole in there hip to have x-rays to see if your shot not only melted your flesh but your bone tissue as well. My doctor zoomed in on my x-rays with his computer you could easily see the damage.

I have been taking Lisinopril for almost two years now. I have developed a distinct cough which is worse at night and in the morning. I feel like I have constant congestion that I need to clear from my throat. It seems to be getting worse as time goes on. I have to keep a bottle of cepacol next to my bed just to get rest during the night. My Dr. told me that I may develope a slight tickle in the back of my throat from Lisinopril but I did not expect this bad of a problem. Now I'm reading about thyroid problems as well and it has me worried. I'm constantly tired and drained of energy and now I'm wondering if it's the meds or some other problem.

Angela,
It broke my heart to read your post. U sound just like me after I had a kidney transplant and had to take pred. I ballooned up so big. My face certainly had "MOON FACE" like I've mentioned in my other posts, I have three sizes of clothes. It's very depressing and no matter how much support u have, it's still your body and it is all about us. We can't help how we feel about ourselves. It's the pred. The self-esteem flys out the window. I've gone thru this so much. I was on pred. for 4 yrs. I have been off pred. for three months. I've lost weight but I have about 25 more to go. I gained around 75-80 lbs. myself. I've lost 33 now. I was so skinny before pred. because of dialysis. I don't want to be that skinny again, that's why I want to lose only 25 more. It's very hard to lose. How long do u have to be on it?
Withdrawal is very hard, also. No matter what people say, when we look into the mirror, it's depressing. I promise u, after u stop taking it, tho it will take time, u will lose it. U r in my prayers. I'm so sorry that u have to feel like this because I've been there, am there, and have a ways to go. Maybe as time goes on, your body will eventually will adjust. I assume u will be on it for some time. I certainly understand the depression. God Bless You Trailblazen

Hi Ladies ~
I have been off of Yasmin for 6 weeks now... I have suffered two REALLY bad panic attacks, and I am fortunate my husband helps me through them with breathing, etc.... I start feeling a lot of fear and panic something is going to happen to my family, especially my little girl (4 yrs old). It was so bad the two nights that I ended up sleeping with her. I hate these feelings when I am out of control and feel doom. I hope to get better as time goes on. Knock on wood, I have not had ONE migraine for 6 weeks!!!!!! YEAH!!!! I was getting bad ones two - three times a WEEK! Phew....
Can you please elaborate on what the Angus Castus is and where I can get it?
Thank you, girls.

I've been taking Topamax for a couple months now and am up to 200mg per day for both my Trigeminal Neuralgia (right sided facial nerve pain) and migraines that I was having 2-3 times a day. I now only have migraines 2-3 times a week which is so much better and my trigeminal neuralgia is under control, no pain as long as I take the medicine. I have frequent tingling of my hands and feet, I feel drowsy alot, but there are some times where I go one to three whole days when I can't sleep at all and I feel like a zombie and I'll even try taking tylenol PM to try to sleep but still can't. That is such a horrible feeling. When I finally do get some sleep, I'll sleep for like a whole day and night and then I am so relieved and back to normal. I used to love diet pop but now it just tastes totally bitter, so I pretty much just drink water which is good. I've lost about 8 pounds of weight and hope to lose more, sounds like others of you out there have lost some weight on this drug. Thats a good thing right? Like some of you out there, I also have that tip of the tongue thing where you know what you want to say but you can't say the words some times, and that is very frustrating. But on a positive note, I have friends that don't take anything and it happens to them too! I have had lasix surgery on my eyes and since being on Topamax, I have had to get some glasses and contact lenses for my eyes which is quite a frustration for me. I don't absolutely have to wear them, but things are just too blurry now if I don't wear them especially when I drive. Overall though, I am happy with the fact that my migraines are so much less frequent and I feel like I have a much better quality of life than before. I hope as time goes on my sleep patterns will even out, I have a feeling that they will. Good luck to all of you out there! ;-)

My girlfriend was on Yasmin for two months and this pill has changed our lives drastically. She has been off now for 2.5 months but still experiences the side effects...i.e. anxiety, depression, mood swings, and panic attacks. She was not this way before Yasmin. I love my girlfriend very much and I am sticking by her because she means the world to me and I am nothing without her. To all you women out there that have been on Yasmin, I feel your pain because I see what my girlfriend goes through. To all you boyfriends/husbands, it's hard, I know what you're going through. The pill that our girlfriends/wives took is a terrible poison. I do see some improvement as time goes on, but it takes a while. Be patient.

I have been on Paxil going on three months and I experience terrible night sweats. I wake up drenched and it feels like its freezing. Sometimes to the point where I get up in the middle of the night to shower. As time goes on, it doesn't seem to be getter any better or any worse. I have recently began having night terrors as well. And also I wake myself up at night from grinding my teeth. Since I have been on Paxil I have found myself again. I know who I am. My depression is almost non-exsistance as well as those dreadful panic attacks. The bad out weighs the good for me. To all of you who Paxil hasn't helped, I hope you are able to find what works for you..good luck.

In response to 'voicesi', please hang in there! The time it takes for this horrible pill to get out of your body seems to vary for everyone. I have heard that a doctor said that it can be up to three months for the hormones to be completely out of your body, but that it will get progressively better as time goes on.
I was on Yasmin for nearly a year until I was 'hit' with waves of depression, anxiety/panic attacks, having horrible thoughts, rapid heart rate, dizziness/vertigo, loss of apetite. I became a completely different person and was scaring myself and my family. I stopped taking Yasmin 3 weeks ago and although I still have some anxiety (moreso constant worrying?) I am generally feeling alot better and feel like 'the old me' is coming back!
I know alot of people have encouraged others to call the pharmaceutical companies to lodge the effects of Yasmin (and I'm not discouraging that), but I feel in order for the 'word to get out' it needs to be made known to the media??? Pharmaceutical companies have their own agenda with this information. Also, I worry about women who don't have links to the internet. I am just so thankful I found this website and to read others stories, like they were telling mine!
Bring on the happy times!

My grandson is nearly 10yrs old - he had asthma from about 13mths - his mother had it as did her dad so my grandson inherited it - however over the years we had his asthma under control at the beginning of 2006 he was only on one puff of flexitide a day and didn't need ventolin - however this year my daughter went to the specialist and he said to try SINGULAIR - I did not want her to give it to him as a pharmacist told me his daughter was on it and she got worse - but my daughter gave it to him - at first he was good and did not even need his one puff of preventer per day - however as time has gone on he has developed worse asthma than he had ever before - he has been on Singulair about 7mths (thank god no more) he also has been having trouble sleeping at night (didn't know till I read the web this is one of the side effects) he also got stomach upsets with a very white coated tongue - also tonsilitis back hasn't had that for 2yrs - he also started getting angry and playing up at school - which he has always been a wonderful child (I can only thank GOD that I went on line and was guided to this site ( thank you all for your information) keep up the good work and tell everyone that SINGULAIR IS POISON especially to children
