I've had bladder irritation off and on for a few years, every time I go tot he md's they tell me I'm fine, I get horrible side aches that leave me in pain that takes my breathe away at times. I have severe asthma and haven't had to take the prednisone in a long time. I restarted last nighta gain. It was life or death. While I'm not fully comfortable with taking it, my options are limited as right now my breathing and mobility are horrid.

I try very hard to steer clear of prednisone as a matter of course, but since I've been on it I've been hyper-semsetive,. crying one minute yelling the next. Not really understanding or caring why I'm feeling this way I just KNOW I am. I hate this stuff.

Janet..you are not imagining your bladder problem IMHO, but I do not know what it is either. I've seen urologists and every thing and they act like I'm making it up.

lame(arses)

anyhoo, its nice to know that some of these feelings are just me. Thanks for posting people. I don't feel so alone.

I'm on it for PMR. Been on prednisone about 6 mo. My main complaint is that my face, neck and stomach are really swollen. I take 10 mg. a day, but next time I go to the doctor I'm going to tell him to lower the dose or take me off completely. I started on 20 mg. a day and felt better but very hungry, so the doctor immediately put it down to 15 mg. Then 10. Ten does very little good to the symptoms, and only gives me the same side effects, and I'm still hungry all the time, especially later in the day. I also get very warm and flushed when I eat dinner, and the warmth endures until I'm asleep. Have to put the air conditioner down pretty low.

I take doxycycline as an anti-acne medication. I've been on it for two years now, with an increase in dosage from 50 mg 2 x a day to 100 mg 2 x a day.

If I take it without food, I feel incredibly nauseous, so I'm careful to take it always immediately after meals. My prescription says do not take within 2 hours of eating dairy products, but sometimes I can't avoid that, since I have to take it with meals... I am also a lot more prone to sunburn since I started taking this, including one really horrible sunburn I got in FEBRUARY last year! ugh!

Does anyone know if there is a limit on the number of years one should take this medication for? Having been taking it for two years now, I began wondering if there could be negative consequences to the drug being in my system for such a long time without break. I am going to ask my doctor the next time I go in for a visit, but wanted to try to find out on the 'net first.

I have had trouble breathing with Topamax. I have been on the med twice. The first time, my doctor suspected that the mix of Allegra D and the Topamax caused an allergic reaction, the feeling of someone sitting on my chest and a breathing difficulty. So, she told me to stop both of them cold turkey. I did. The side effects went away, I felt better after 3 days. My migraines came back so I went to see a neurologist who wanted to try the Topamax again. I agreed to try it. I feel that familiar breathing problem, but not as bad. This time around, I think it is triggering asthma attacks which I have never had before. Someone was cutting the grass next door and when I breathed it in, I couldn't breathe. I had to shut the windows quickly and I coughed until I caught my breath. There was a natural gas smell in my apartment bldg. last week, I was in the hall for 4 mins. and had to leave quickly because it took my breath away. It took me 20 mins. to stop coughing. When I smell nail polish or the remover, etc. now, I can't breathe. I left the house yesterday and was panting while driving. I can't walk on my new treadmill without breathing hard. That never used to happen. Other side effects include pain behind my eye when I go out in the sun, my lips burn every time I go out in the sun, so do my ears, tingling in my thumbs and feet that can be painful, allergic to my cats now (breaking out in hives), and just not quick with the mind like I used to be. I know I shouldn't be driving. I've only been taking it for 6 weeks.

I have some kind of sickness which is going around and I couldn't hear one morning out of one ear so I went to the doctor and he prescribed me Guaifen. It worked right away after the first 30 mins my ears begin to pop and slowly return some of my hearing. The first day I took it it made me drowsy. I only take it at around the time I go to bed and it wakes me up around 7 or 8 am every time so far. I usually wake up with a really bad cough which I try not to swallow and although its supposed to help me with the cough it dosen't do anything for my sore throat. My sickness is slowly fading but the ear has not healed after the first day.

THANK YOU< THANK YOU to all who have posted to this site! Found it accidentaly while looking for causes for severe panic attacks that I had been having for about 1 1/2 years. Been on yasmin for about 4. Had alot of stressful things happen in the last 4 four years, husband lost job, family illness's, friends childs death, went back to work and 3 three active kids. Just blamed symptoms on all this. Last year things have been great on the stress level the though panic attacks seemed to get worse. Thought I was losing my mind! Went for all kinds of tests with gyno, all came back normal. Was almost dissapointed that I wasn't sick in some way. They asked me why I was so concerned, told them about panic attacks and never once said it could be the pill. Said I should learn how to just stop thinking and relax. Why aren't they telling us about this. It's almost criminal. I plan to show my gyno this web site next time I go. Went off yasmin as soon as I saw this site last tues. Already the heart palps have stopped. AMAZING! I can't tell everybody how much I appreciate your honesty about this situation. Your comments have made me realize I'm not nuts! Looking forward to a normal life again thanks to you all.

I have been on Yasmin for 2 1/2 years - and I always thought it was a blessing. I had very heavy, irregular periods before Yasmin, and now they are light and regular. The only thing that showed up on a test during the first year was a slightly higher triglyceride level, but it was still healthy.

However, last December I had what I thought was a heart attack. I went to the ER with palpitations, and they told me that I had high blood pressure, pulse, and low blood oxygen. After sitting in ER for about 30 minutes everything went back to normal, they said I had acid reflux and prescribed medication for that. The problems never really went away, and I have been to see my doctor at least once a month with different symptoms all the time. Before this I only went to the Dr once a year for my pap - I never got sick! Ever! She told me it was stress and anxiety, and didn't even look into anything else even though I insisted it had to be more than that. Every time I go to see her my blood pressure is always normal, as is everything else.

Sometimes when I am sitting at my desk at work or lying in bed reading I will start to panic for no reason at all and feel like I can't breathe, when if fact I have no problems breathing at all. I also get colds and allergies when I never had these problems before.

I'm not overweight, and I do cardio exercise everyday with no side effects so the Dr's rule out any heart problems. I never thought to blame Yasmin for my problems, and maybe I should make a switch to something else.

Has anyone switched to another BCP with better results?

This is an interesting and informative forum. I'm sorry to hear of all the anguish many people have expressed here while on Yasmin. Here's my story:

I have been on b/c pills for about 8 years - and I am just about to STOP them to get my body back to normal and give it break. But - that aside.....

My OBgyn prescribed me on Yasmin in mid-2003 - citing it as a new b/c pill and therefore she seemed to figure it would be the best thing for me. They didn't tell me it was $36 a month - niiiiice.

When I began Yasmin in summer of 2003 - I noticed a strange pattern in my scalp hair. The right-front quadrant of my hair thinned to where one could see the skin beneath if my hair was tightly tied back, and a small area of hair on my right temple began sticking out - like it would not grow past 2" long (my hair is longish - down to the middle of my back). This made me look a bit weird, to say the least - but I didn't attribute it to Yasmin- yet. Only when I began doing research on lists like this did I find out that hair thinning and shedding appears to be an all-too-common side effect of YASMIN. Lovely. Hindsight is 20/20 - but if I had known that before going on it - I wouldn't have bothered.

I cannot tell which complaints of mine are due to Yasmin and which are just woman-stuff - but I have several very dabillitating side effects which I am hoping are caused by YASMIN. Alll through the month - at all times of my cycle - I have a CONSTANT vaginal discharge ALL THE TIME. Every time I go to the bathroom I dread it because I know I'm going to have to spend half an hour (OK time overestimated but you get my drift) sitting there wiping and wiping and wiping and wiping - frequently having to flush more than once and/or get more bathroom tissue. WHAT A HASSLE!!!!! The discharge varies from green to yellow to brown to clear.

My face complexion is a DISASTER. My pores on my nose are enlarged so much that when I put foundation on I look like a golfball, and I have to use facewipes every 3 or 4 hours to scrape the grease off my forehead, nose and chin. I literally SHINE with the stuff. It's really horrid. When I go and look in the mirror, if I look close enough - I can see my pores dischrging immense amounts of sebum that sits in their small indentations like water. I have begun using toner in hopes that it would help. It doesn't appear to.

Also - YASMIN does NOT alter or alleviate my PMS. I still get cramps (although I never have had TERRIBLE ones) - but by far the worst is the mood swings and anger-management issues I have in the run-up week to my period. I snap at the slightest thing (husband puts a dish in the wrong place) and I am overly-emotional.

HOWEVER - by far the most DEGRADING, EXASPERATING, DEPRESSING AND WORRYING problem I have right now which seems to be attributable to being on the Yasmin birth control pill - is the COMPLETE lack of LIBIDO. Now, after doing research, I find out that Yasmin contains antiandrogen and antitestosterone agents in it. That means that it lowers or suppresses the male hormones inside of you like testosterone - which is what gives you sexual excitement and desire. YASMIN appears to be the single worst pill to take if you do not want libido problems.

The only time I have any sexual desire is DIRECTLY AFTER my period after I have been taking the inactive (or placebo) pills for 7 days. Does that ring alarm bells??

I'll stop now unless somebody writes back wanting to know any more specific advice on what I have been going through - but I can tell you that for $36 a month and considering we're usually too tired to "do it" at nights anyhow - I'd be as well stopping YASMIN and buying our family Life Insurance.

Does anyone notice excessive mucus? I have been going to the doctor since March because of chest congestion. I have taken 3 or 4 different anti-biotics and many alergy medications (nothing helps). Today, it dawned on me... I have also been having very clotty vaginal discharges just about every time I go to the bathroom. There is no oder, no pain, no burning (not an infection). All of this has been occuring since I have started Yasmin 28. Can Yasmin make your body produce excessive mucus?

After reading a number of the letters posted I feel so connected with you all, my heart goes out to you all because I too am on Levoxyl.. I have experienced practically every symptom that I have read and it is not in your head even though the doctors may not know what the problem is they will just treat it with other drugs instead of just changing your medication. I had my thyroids removed 5 years ago and still having problems every time I go to the doctor they are changing my medication. I too have been on different antidepressions and am having problems with my joints and swelling. My sister noticed my skin darkening and I was told that my liver was not good. I know there is so much going on that I still have not addressed but it cause money to go to the doctors and that is a problem but to all of you keep the faith and remember no one knows how you feel but you.
