I went to the doctor with a sinus and kidney infection, after 2 days of levaquin, I had severe swelling in my knees, calves, and ankles, the pain was more than I could bear, I had vomited of the dry heaves because I had no appetite. Does someone know why this mediation is on the market, and why no one has done anything about it. I am still in severe pain after 9 days

When a class action lawsuit is filed, let me know....this drug should be taken of off the market immediately. We started all of this with an OB/GYN that prescribed this “miracle pill” and now have had to go not only to our primary doctor, but also a psychiatrist, gastrenologist, college campus counselors, psychologists, psychiatrist, and the campus medical doctors; All the while, accumulating enormous doctor bills. All the doctors say, "No, Yasmin won't cause those problems" (except the college campus doctors..wonder why? Hmm.. could it be that they are not in private practice?)....well, I beg to differ. Everyone needs to give this website to their doctor so the doctors can hear from the patients that have taken this drug, and not listen to the pharmaceutical companies that are pushing this drug to be the "miracle pill". Maybe if enough people complain and go to the media, we can get rid of this drug!
My daughter who is 18 was put on Yasmin because of irregular periods, hormonal imbalance, etc. We were told it was the new “miracle pill”. It will make you loose weight, regulate your periods, clear up acne, you name it, it will fix it. Yeah, right.
She started taking this pill in March 2007. She was off at college but called to tell me she was experiencing horrible headaches, behind the eyes. She complained about her stomach hurting, but we just figured it was the stress of freshman year at college. Then she said she got where she couldn’t eat when she went to a restaurant. When she came home in May for the summer, I noticed a total personality change. For example, she was always a neat freak, and now she wouldn’t clean her room. The first day when she drove home, she started crying she was so mad about the traffic. Yes, she has always had a little road rage, but this was ridiculous.
By June, not only could she not be in crowds, like at a restaurant, but now she is having full blown panic attacks and IBS. We called the OBGYN and they said, “Yasmin won’t cause this, go see your primary doctor”. I knew that the only thing that had changed with her was taking the YASMINE. I knew it had something to do with all of this so I “Googled Yasmin” and this website (http://www.medications.com/se/yasmin) was the first one I looked at. All of her symptoms matched everyone else’s! I am so glad we found this website, it explained everything and I had her to stop Yasmin immediately.
So we went to the primary doctor, explained about the Yasmin and how we thought it was the culprit of everything. Of course this doctor also says, “Yasmin won’t cause that”. We told him to look it up on the internet and see how there are over 3000 complaints on this drug, more than any of the other drugs on the market.
Besides the emotional problems she starting having, her pulse and blood pressure was sky high, so he puts her on medicine for that, and puts her on an anxiety medicine and sends her to a psychiatrist. She is very thirsty all the time, and develops IBS. She can’t eat without having pains in her stomach. So, now we’ve have gone from having just irregular periods, to all of the above, plus a psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist doubles her medicine (and puts her Pamine for the IBS) because the panic attacks are gone, but she still is having a lot of nervousness, anxiety, can’t sleep at night, crazy thoughts, worrying all the time, etc. A month later he changes her medicine again, to Effexor. The first 2 weeks, she does okay, but the packet doubles the strength after 2 weeks. It takes 4 weeks for it to take full effect. Right after she doubles this medicine, it is like her senses are on hyper-mode. She can taste everything that is in her food (chili powder, seasonings, etc…), taste the metal in water, and she can hear someone’s phone vibrating, in another room.
Then she goes back to college at the end of August 2007, and it’s horrible. The Effexor is having bad, bad side effects. We called the psychiatrist that she was using at home and he doubled the dose. That was the worse thing they could’ve done. The side effects were worse than ever. I had her to immediately go to a psychiatrist on campus. She told him the whole story and he believed her! Needless to say we switched doctors. He then lowered her dose back down to ½ a dose and hopefully can slowly get her off of all this medicine.
The newest thing she has developed is being hypoglycemic. The campus psychiatrist sent her to a campus medical doctor and he told her that they would get to the bottom of this. He tested her for everything under the sun. Low blood sugar is the only thing they found. But, she hasn’t taken the Yasmin since May. No telling what the results would have came back like if it was done at the time she was taking Yasmin.
Thank goodness she has counselors and doctors there at the campus that believes that Yasmin can cause all of these problems, and are working with her. From what I have read from the people that have used this medicine, although most doctors do not agree, Yasmin takes like 6 months to get out of your system. I think I am going to believe the testimonials of the people who take this medicine, over a doctor who prescribes it.
If everyone goes to the media, their doctors, the FDA, congressmen, and make them aware of these horrible effects, surely we can get this drug off of the market! Does anyone know a class action lawyer that would pursue this? For my child to have to go through all of this is ridiculous, not to mention costly. What do we know of the long term effects this drug will have if it is doing all of this when you first start taking it?
If you have the same concerns as me about this drug, and would be interested in looking into a class action lawsuit, please email: ****** I would be interested to see how many would want to pursue this.

I'm glad I came on this site.. My GYN gave me Femcon FE because he saw that I have a cyst on my left ovary. I hard horror stories about birth controls, like weight gain, acne, and nausea.. I am afraid of all three of those.
He told me to start taking them over the weekend and I asked him will there be any side effect and he told me that I would like the pill.. I just gave him a look and said I will be doing some research on this pill and if I read any stories about bad side effect I will not be taking them.
So thanks guys for your comments...
I WILL NOT BE TAKING THIS PILL..
I'll just wait for the cyst to disappear on it's own.

I took Doxycycline for pneumonia that would not go away 100 mg per day. After 4 doses I was struck suddenly with severe chest pain on the left hand side of my chest at the front, down the middle of my chest and on the left hand side of my back and under my shoulder blade. I was admitted to hospital for suspected heart problem. However, after ECG, XRay, blood tests no evidence of a heart problem was found. On release from hospital I checked the patient information leaflet that was supplied with the Doxycyline and it list chest pain as an allergic reaction to the drug. I also experienced a swollen and sore tongue and breathing difficulty which is taking time to go.

Hi Bitter RN!!

I'm so sorry, I misunderstood your last post. I thought you would post again over Sarah's forum so that we don't have to post here again (someone complained about our "personal chats" here a few days ago...).

The appointment for the bloodwork (iron levels, thyroid levels, etc.) was this morning. I think I'll get the results back about thursday next week... Hmmm, again a very long time to go on with those extremely weak muscles and that horrible tiredness....

The results of my hormonal test by my gyn a few weeks ago I had already posted here, but I didn't know the normal ranges then (they could'nt even tell me in the gyn's office, how they are.... Hmmm...). My gyn told me everything was fine with them, and another doc, to whom I had posted the results over the internet (www.cyberdoc.de. or something similar) told me, they were not ok at all... Wham! I think the docs even don't know by themselves what is right or wrong...

But I think if the bloodwork, which my family doc has done today, will not show anything, I'll ask him to send me again to the endocrinologist from two years ago whom was the second doc who believed, that my symptoms could have been caused by Yasmin and suggested to stop taking it (she even attested me this in her report!!). It hink she could perhaps be the one to find out anything about my still lasting hormonal chaos...

I realized some other very unusual changes in my body over the last hmmm, I think 4 weeks, ok, since my last period. It already started about 2 days too early and only with some kind of "spotting". This lasted for about 5 days until I was hit overnight with a full bleeding... I thought I was gonna faint because of that heavy bleeding. This heavy bleeding lasted even 6 days more until it slightly stopped...

Then I usually got terrible hurting breasts around 10 days before my period and also a very heavy discharge (normal color, nothing pathologic, just the normal ovulation discharge...). All those things didn't happen this cycle besides a horrible upcoming and increasing tiredness and weakness and dizzyness (that kind of dizzyness I had the first few weeks off Yasmin because of the hormonal changes...)....
I already wondered if I could be pregnant...... ???

Well, I'm also anxious to see the results of my iron levels. If it would be just that there would at least be a way to treat my symptoms... Well, and that muscle weakness had again gotten so bad after my period started again in August 2006... So I think there might be a correlation. I'll have to wait and see...

Thank you for caring bitter RN, I'll let you know the results as soon as I have them!!

How are you doing?? Hope you're still feeling better day by day...

All the best and read you soon!!

Silke

Sorry to those who are enervated by our personal posts, but please remember ladies, these posts have already saved some lives out there........

I feel sick and tired. I had a bit of a cough before I started Lisinopril because I had smoked for about a month and quit. The cough got steadily worse. Now I have a very productive cough and runny nose and I feel like my immune system has been weakened by taking the med. I don't usually get colds. I also have swollen lymph nodes behind my ear.
I take Lisinopril in the morning and by noon it feels like time to go to bed. In some ways I feel better, not as stressed and speeded up as I have been feeling, but the cough, if it doesn't get better is not tolerable. It has helped my blood pressure some, but one day about a week after I started to take it my blood pressure was higher than it had ever been (178 over 107) and I got two irregular heart beat readings. I slept almost the entire weekend and went to work today coughing and nose running. By evening I was exhausted. Will not go to work tomorrow. Left work one afternoon during the Christmas season just past just feeling exhausted. Sick and tired.

I have been taking 50 mg. of Toprol daily for the last six months because I was having PVC's. After being on the medication for about a month, I started noticing my PVC's were unnoticeable, and I was thrilled because they drove me crazy, especially when it was time to go to bed. However, I am a lifetime weight watcher, and after 5 mos. on the medication I suddenly gained 10 lbs., and I was horrified. To make matters worse, strict dieting on the weight watcher's program and daily aerobic exercise did NOTHING to bring me back down to my normal weight. I am going to see my doctor this week because he knows how important my weight is to me (he saw me go down to 140 pounds after weighing in at 205 lbs). My doctor left a message for me when I inquired about this by phone that he thought it was unlikely that the Toprol had anything to do with my weight gain; however, I beg to differ. Even if the weight gain was not due to Toprol, then somebody needs to explain to me why I have not been able to take the ten pounds off..........

AFter I see my doctor, I'll give you all an update...

my daughter is 5 years old. she was recently put on 5 mill of singulair. i couldnt figure out what was wrong or what had changed her moods so abrumptly. i had spoken with her school counseler and her teachers to see if anything unusual was happening in school because she totally refused and cried unconsolably when it was time to go. she had attended pre school in the previous year so school was not new to her. she began kindergarten this year at the same school without much of a fuss besides the usual kindergarten jitters. she came down with a pretty bad cold and allergy attack, so her doctor prescribed singulair and advert instead of just claritin. every since she started this medicine, she hasnt slept well, and it seems the small things that made her apprehensive before have magnified by 100. im very upset that parents arent better informed about the side effects that COULD happen while their children are taking the meds that they themselves prescribed. if i had not taken the time to read the papers associated with the meds given at the drugstore, i would not have known why my little girl was feeling the way she is. although these information papers barely touch on the side effects, i took it upon myself to call the pharmacist to get further information. i explained the symptoms my daughter was going through and i was utterly shocked and furious to hear her confirm eveything i was saying was a definate side effect of singulair. please parents, get ALL of the information on this drug before administering it to your child...some may not have any negative effects, but you need to know all of the possibilities that can occur.

So I decided to stop Yasmin after 3 years due to the HORRIBLE side effects. Although I have noticed some postive changes (decreased heart rate, decreased blood pressure, decreased cholesterol, improvement with stomach), I have also noticed some negative things from stopping Yasmin. For example, I am still suffering from anxiety and depression which I know will take some time to go away. Also, I have noticed that I have been losing TONS of hair and have not had a period since I stopped taking Yasmin about 6 weeks ago. Is the hair loss and not having a period normal? I am assuming this is probably because of the change in hormones...right???

To Guest #10748......Yes, I had terrible side effects while I was reducing my dose. In fact, I ended up in the emergency room one Sunday because my blood pressure and heart rate went sky high. I am a person with anxiety and panic attacks anyway, so the prednisone really put me over the edge. I am now down to .5 (1/2 of a 10mg tablet) a day until they are all gone; and they are almost all gone, thank God!!!!! I am feeling much better these days; not to say I don't have my bad days. I am taking the prednisone for sudden hearing loss in my right ear, so I still have my days where I feel weird because my head feels lopsided. It is the strangest feeling ever. It's very hard to explain to anyone unless they have experienced it too. I had the muscle weakness, mostly in my shoulders and arms; the extreme hunger, (I still can't believe the food that I could put away) and just a general LOUSEY feeling. I was a nervous wreck. Hang in there; it will get better. I can say this.......I will never take it again. Even if I end up in a wheelchair someday for some reason....I will NOT TAKE IT. Oh, and I had extreme sweating; mostly at night when it was time to go to bed. I would have to get a cold washcloth and lay it on top of my chest to cool down my core temperature. It was awful!!!! I guess it was pretty much a NIGHTMARE. Like I said, Hang in there!!!!!!

After I was separated from my husband of 9 years, I decided to go off the pill. I immediately stopped getting migraines, no more bloating, no cramps!, no Headaches!!, slept deeper, lost 10lbs, was on Cloud 9, had the energy of a 19 yr old, dancing and had never felt better, but I had irreg. periods and went months without a cycle. Most would point this to being happy that Im not in an unfulfilling marriage anymore, and I'm not discounting that. But, 4 months after I met my Soul Mate, I went back on Yasmin (b/c the others gave me migraines). Little by little I gained weight, lost my waist again, sex drive is much lower, lower energy, breasts went back to 36C! but they're so tender now, migraines hit right before I start again, bloating, cramping so bad it wakes me in the middle of the night, I look tired all the time. It's taken my youth away from me once again. I think we women have greater intuition than western medicine has proof, and I believe it's time to go off the pill forever and try other barrier methods. Does anyone have any recommendations of things they've tried and worked well, and the didn't get pregnant using them? Thanks for reading and any comments you have :) - phoebegirl
