I have been taking 20mg of Simvastatin every night for about 4 years now and after coming across this site I have decided to stop taking it. I have been feeling particularly unwell for a couple of days, decided to do some research and can't believe what I am reading on this site! For the last year I have suffered terrible pain and loss of movement in my neck shoulders and arms and shooting pains in my legs along with muscle tics. More recently dizzy spells and quite severe tinnitus and headpain and fatigue. I have also found that my muscles tire very quickly when doing the smallest of tasks i.e: changing a duvet cover! The night sweats are particularly bad which I have been putting down to my age but may be to do with the statins. I am praying that these symptoms will reverse once I stop taking them but remain skeptical after reading other peoples comments on here!

In reference to my Sept. 20th posting, I have been asked to describe the
"warning signs" of oncoming seizures that I have. To review, I was struck by lightning while serving in the Marine Corp in 1977 and have had seizure disorder and myoclonic jerks and inner ear problems since that time. As I stated in the post on the 20th, I have been tried on "all" of the seizures control medications and they all make it difficult to function as an educational administrator. The best medical advice I ever received was to keep a diary of everything I could remember leading up to a seizure. This included any activities I had been doing, what I had eaten, what time of day it was, any stress or problems that I was having. We are all different and probable all have different triggers. In my case, I learned that as a seizure approached, I would become more light headed or dizzy (I have inner ear problems all of the time secondary to being struck by lightning, I just recognize when they are getting worse) The ringing in my ears increases, (I also have tinnitus all of the time also from the lightning, and over time you get use to it, but I can notice when it increases) When these signs start, I stop what I am doing regardless of what I am doing, If I am in a meeting, I take a break, if I am driving (I drive locally or with someone with me) I get off the road. (In 30 years, I have never had a seizure while driving and actually have never had a traffic ticket in that period, I try to be very carefully with what driving I do, knowing that one occurrence will cost me my licenses.) I try to rest and be quiet, if the dizziness and tinnitus continue, I take two ten Mg Valium tables and lay down. If I am by myself, I will call some and let them know where I am and how I am doing. The valium probable stops the seizures about half of the time and I believe that it always make them less sevier. I have warning signs once or twice per week, and have to take valium on the average of once per week, and will have a gran mal seizure once or twice per month. With Lamictal, I believe the seizures are less frequent and less sevier as long as I keep the dosage low enough to not block my warning signs. I believe everyone's seizure disorder is different and some may be like mine and be able to learn warning signs by keeping good records of what you can remember leading up to the seizure. Always do everything under the direction of a Dr. that you trust and have faith in. The more information you can give your Dr. the better your individual treatment can be developed. If you can develop warning signs, the seizures are much easier controlled and you can live a much better quality of live.

I have been taking Singulair for allergies for about 4 months. At first I took it in the evening at about 9pm and hour before bed. Almost immediately I felt very tired, sore throat, ear ache, increased tinnitus, irritable, and had aches and pains. So I stopped it for 10 days for it to clear out of my system and started again but this time I took it in the afternoon about 3pm and the difference is amazing, i've had absolutely no side affects, and feel like a new person. Maybe that's what people need to think about doing. The drug is at is most potent for the first 2 - 3 hrs, then slows down, so taking it at night is not a good idea, even though that's how it's prescribed.

Daughter received last injection in 2007. In 2008 had severe abdominal symptoms and dx'd with acid reflux and prescribed Prevacid. Has tried to wean off it but debilitating symptoms persist. Endoscopy and stomach bx do not show H.Pylori. Cause unknown.
Now experiencing tinnitus and 50% hearing loss. Vey fast onset, sudden and unexpected. With current auto-immune disorders related to Gardasil am wondering if anyone else is experiencing ringing in the ears and hearing loss. She certainly had the stomach symptoms many pts experienced. I wonder if this drug is causing these young girls own bodies to attack otherwise healthy cells. I did not want my daughter to get the shot but her doctor and college were promoting it and she was over 18.

I am experiencing increased volume of tinnitus when I use DermOtic oil drops. It is unclear to me if it is due to the medication or something else. Has anyone else had this symptom?

Hi everyone, I just came upon all this yesterday and can't believe it! I have been thinking I am going crazy and have been going down a shame spiral! I have had the Mirena for about a year after the birth of my twins. When I first got the Mirena I really didn't seem to like it...I had weird bleeding, cramping, headaches but my doctor told me there were really no side effects except for the on and off again bleeding so I didn't think much of it. Soon, I started having heart palpitations and weird panicky feelings when I would be out places which I have never had before. I wrote it all off due to the rough twin pregnancy and moved on. Soon, I really started worrying something was wrong with me because of all these weird things, the headaches and heart palpitations and panicky feelings, also I started feeling foggy like I was walking around feeling out of it and sometimes a little dizzy or something just having weird head feelings. We always had in the back of our minds that it could be the Mirena but never really took action. Just for the past couple of months things have gotten much worse. Those panicky feelings really got worse and combined with anxiety and sad and crazy depression thoughts and feelings. I also have been feeling this weird nervousness.....even in my quietest moments of my day. This is so out of my normal character and I feel like I can't even remember what I used to feel like. I have been to my PCP who gave me medication for anxiety and have had a hard time adjusting because I just can't believe all of this craziness and I just keep thinking is the problem really my IUD? Then my mom came upon this because she just felt that me feeling this way is just to weird and I feel like I relate to all of your stories! I have truly been feeling like I am going crazy...and I have never felt this way before...ever. I called my doctor yesterday to talk with her and I am going to have this removed...although I am a little nervous about the after effects. I just keep thinking a year ago I was fine.. and now look at me...I am on anti-depressants...how did this happen?? I know that I have stress but there is no reason for me to be feeling this way. I would love to hear about anyone else who felt this way and got the IUD removed and how that went. I know that I probably won't feel better right away...but I am hoping with time I can forget all of this and move on.

The reason is when you stop taking the Lipitor, and your symptoms don't go away is this: Lipitor cause hearing loss, which is what causes the Tinnitus! I have been having severe tinnitus for months now, seen all kinds of Dr.s who didn't have a clue. And I finally went to the House Ear Clinic, and they told me what it was, but they didn't know how I got it. I got Tinnitus a few months after my Dr. upped my dose. It's taken me this long to put the puzzle together. The Physician's Desk Reference lists hearing loss, tinnitus, and dizziness as side effects of Lipitor. I am appalled that not one Dr. asked me what kind of medication I was taking!

Well, I have had tinnitus for a year to the point I may have to quit work and go on disability. I noticed that every time I take an antibiotic, the tinnitus gets better (but doesn't quite go away). I recently took LEVAQUIN for bronchitis and after the first pill my tinnitus subsided substantially. It remained much better during the ten day treatment. I had no side effects from the antibiotic although it did seem to take the whole ten days to help my bronchitis.
Now that I am finished the LEVAQUIN my tinnitus is increasing again.
I liked the experience of taking it.

I have been on lipitor since Oct 2008, 10 mg. Off and on, I am very dizzy. The backs of my calves start to weaken and I start drinking Smart Water, because I think I"m dehydrated. The Smart Water does help, but today, the dizziness is lasting all day. I probably have tinnitus. My right ear occasionally has a loud ringing and today a little pain and feels as though it has water in it. I am going to call Life Extensions and speak to their health advisors and try something naturpathic. I am soooo scared, because I have 50% blockage in my carotid arteries. Any advice out there?

I am 39, and was prescribed Asmanex 2BID in December of 2006 with the doctor telling me that once we got past the abnormally warm fall/winter that I could taper off. I have tried on multiple occasions, only to have a reactive airway and I resumed normal dosing. I researched this further after having severe side effects with lipitor, and I am a week into coming off the twisthaler. My plan is one dose for 2 weeks, a dose very other day for 2 weeks, then evaluate if I need to do 1 every third days. Weaning off this thing is ROUGH- feeling like crap. I did not realize the potential side effects on this one, and I did not realize that long term use of steriodal inhalers can thin tissue, etc. Right now I am experiencing a little discomfort at night, coughing and 'sticky airway' (it feels like someone is crumpling cellophane when I exhale) and strangely enough, tinnitus of all things. I have been EXHAUSTED and having lower GI issues. I am hoping that I will be able to persevere and get off this drug. Has anyone had similar experiences coming off Adviar, Singular, or any other type drug?

OH MY GOD!!!! I thought I might be imagining things. I was prescribed Levaquin and clyndamycin on December 15 2008 for a urinary tract infection that appeared to have gone systemic. After 2 days my right knee swelled up. I went back to the Dr the next day and he looked up both antibiotics in his little book and said the clyndamycin could cause joint swelling and pain. He told me to stop taking the clyndamycin and take 600 mg of ibuprofen for the joint paig. His little book said nothing about levaquin. Well I kept taking the levaquin and the pain spread literally to every joint in my body. I could not walk and had trouble even holding a coffee cup. The pain was unreal. I completed the 10 day course of the levequin as instructed. The joint pain was getting worse. I called the Dr. again and they did blood work to rule out arthritis and stuff like that. He put me on prednisone which has significantly helped with the pain. He said it may be a coincidence that I have developed arthritis and that it had nothing to do with the UTI. Well as I was watching TV last night I saw a lawyers commercial for a law suit against levaquin and cipro. Then today got on the internet and found this site. I am going to call the Dr. and tell him to update his little book he looked up the levaquin in. My fear is how long after you stop taking this poison does the joint pain end? I wish I would have known all of this sooner. I will never take this drug again.

I am 67 yo male. have had angioplasties, 2 way by pass , right carotid cleaned out, aterial fibrulation , pacemaker ,have had tinnitus most of my adult life and take many meds. My cardiologist put me on lisinopril again (don't remember why it was discontinued before). Thanks to this site I am understanding the unusual things going on with my body. Sweats, blood red face, terrible ringing in ears, sweaty stinky feet/ jock rash, cough, stuffed up sinus, runny nose, and the heavy chest, shortness of breath and chest pain. After taking this med for 2 weeks had scheduled pace maker check up and mentioned symptoms. Tech ignored my concerns. Will call my pcp tomorrow and get the low down.

I have had to take Levaquin twice. Both times were for a post surgical infection. The Levaquin worked great on the infection, so I stuck with it even though it made me feel terrible. The side effects I had are: ringing in the ears (tinnitus), agitations/anxiety, dizziness, headache, inability to think straight, nausea, stuffed up nose. They were worse in the few hours after I took the Levaquin. I would take it at dinner, so I could sleep through most of the effects and not have to go to work feeling so bad. Fortunately, I did not suffer the insomnia some have had. After 5 days on it, I also got pain in my finger joints which took 2 weeks after stopping the Levaquin to go away. The pharmacist told me these are unfortunate side effects, but not dangerous enough ones to stop taking the drug. I really don't like this one at all, but I can say it does kill the infection.

Hi,
Fist off I'm a fit 38 year old male, not overweight, don't smoke, occasional social drinker.
I've been taking Lisinopril since being diagnosed with high blood pressure in Feb 08, I was started on a dose of 5mg, which was then increased to 10mg and finally 20mg.
The Lisinopril never really got my high blood pressure under control and my Doctor has now switched me to Bendroflumethiazide, only been on those for about a week so have to see how they go.
Lisinopril certainly made me feel terrible:-
Constant Fatigue
Depressed
Foggy
No concentration
Dizzy
Tinnitus
Pounding headaches
if you feel like this then I'd go and see your Doctor and try something else

I have taken three 500mg doses of Levaquin since Saturday. They were prescribed by my urologist for a "possible" minor prostates that might be affecting my PSA (2.2). The very first night I was unable to sleep, tossing and turning all night. Thought nothing of it, and blamed it on diet or too much sleep the previous day. However, insomnia has continued for three straight nights and last night I woke at 4:30 AM with shortness of breath (had to take long deep breaths to feel like I was getting enough oxygen) that felt like an anxiety attack. Although there was no pain, I felt like my heart was pounding and rapid. Finally got a little more sleep and woke up feeling OK in the morning, but blood pressure was elevated. I continually feel like I'm on a caffeine high. I never associated it, but, I woke up second and third days with a sore throat and have had a few minor muscle twitches in arms, legs and abdomen.
I feel fortunate compared to others on this forum. I have stopped taking the Levaquin and have an appointment with my family doctor tomorrow. As a side note, I had an acute prostates this time last year and took Cipro for over one month with no similar side effects that I can recall. Does anyone know if two drugs from the same group can have such different side effects, or can I expect the same problems if I start taking Cipro again?

I was put on Cephalexon (Keflex) for an anorectal abcess & immediately came down with raging tinnitus, headaches, earaches, lethargy, jaw pains, eye pains, & fever. This was three months ago & the symptoms remain. Three doctors have yet to figure out why. I've had blood tests which only show that I have "a low-level infection" of some type. In the interem, I've had surgery for an anorectal abcess, yet my post-Keflex symptoms continue.

THIS DRUG HAS RUINED MY LIFE ! I now have Tinnitus ! After months of trying to figure out what was causing a humming and ringing in my ears we figured out it was the Budeprion. The worst is now I have to live with this the rest of my life. There is no cure. I was told 90% of people with Tinnitus will lose some or all their hearing, Until such time I have to live with the annoying sounds, if it doesn't drive me insane first. I was prescribed Budeprion for depression, I'm more depressed now than ever...........

I have been taking two 220 mg. Naproxen Sodium tablets (Aleve) twice per day for backaches, for the past three to four weeks. I am sensitive to ibuprofen (tinnitus and vertigo) so chose Naproxen because it does not seem to have that effect on me. However, I have had painful mouth sores on the inside of my lips and under my tongue since about the first full week of usage.

I had a sudden onset of tinnitus in my left ear about 2 weeks after starting to take singulair nearly a year ago.. I had not made the connection until I read about ototoxic medications on Wikipedia. I will try stopping Singulair and see if my tinnitus improves. I'll report back.
