I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis at the end of 2007 and have been on prednisone since then. I started on about 105mg a week and am currently trying to reduce it but it is really hard as the moment the dosage goes down I lose all mobility and cannot even get out of bed. I am only 23 years old and really feeling the disease to the extent that I cannot even cope with my life. The prednisone has really taken its toll on me and the side effects are crazy! I just want to go back to my old self as I am finding it sooo hard to get through a single day. My side effects include:
Insomnia, tooth sensitivity, depression, anxiety, mood swings, moon face (my face is so swollen that I cant stand looking in the mirror anymore, dizziness, temper, feelings of uselessness, nightmares, night sweats, water retention, and to top it all off the arthritis is getting worse and I am in constant pain. Is there anything anyone can suggest then please help me!

Hi everyone, I have just read all thirty pages of posts to try to find some answers to my crazy reaction to prednisone. My thoughts are with you all since I have had an usually severe reaction to prednisone. I was on prednisone for 1 week in October 2008 at 60 mg/day for a sinus surgery. I am still having the following side effects at full force:
Axiety to the point I can't socialize
mood swings
hot/sweating even in freezing weather
whole body shakes
severe migraines
tooth sensitivity
muscle pains
extreme thirst (I drink almost 2 gallons/day)
hungry all the time
moon face
water retention around waist
acne
hair loss
rapid heart rate
dizziness
nightmares
night sweats
high blood pressure
high hear rate
I'm not exaggerating, my parent's can contend to that. I do have a history of having sever reactions to medication and I've had all the gland and blood tests which all check out. I never had a single one of these before the prednisone - I was a healthy 22 year old.
I was wondering if any could tell me when this hell will end - my job and well-being depends on it!

I had Mirena put in five days ago. I have had cramping off and on. I finally did a complete workout on my pilates reformer and did just fine. I have yet to see what having sex with my husband is like with this thing in me. I am a little scared about pain. I do feel bloated. I will keep everyone up to date on how I am doing. I sure wish I had come across this website before I decided to put this in.

I have been on Topamax for 4 months and so far the migraines I have suffered for 40 years are gone. Great Some side effects like can't stand carbonated drinks. Reaction time is a little slower. I stress out a little more then I used to. I get really tired at the end of the day. I used to be a night owl but now love my sleep. Question to you all. Any one had problems with their teeth? Such as pain, fillings falling out? Let me know.

WOW! I guess I will consider myself one of the lucky ones after reading all of these side effects posted here. Let me first say that I have tried many inhalers -- serevent, flovent, ventolin etc etc -- and the asthma kept getting worse. Then my doctor suggested Advair. I've been taking it for several years now. I knew that all medications have side effects and I read through the list carefully. The medicine was a Godsend! It helped me so much that I would have recommended it to most anyone. Recently, however, I've started having the occasional heart palpitations and recurring sinus infections. I'm beginning to wonder if it is time to move on to another drug. I'm in my early 30s and have been trying to conceive for a few years to no avail. I recently read that Advair can cause irregular cycles and now wonder if it is playing a part in my fertility struggles. Only other symptoms I have are tooth sensitivity and occasional leg cramps -- however, these existed prior to starting Advair; they might have become more prevalent but I don't believe Advair caused them.
I'd like to hear from anyone who is currently trying Asmanex...that might be my next drug.

My 41/2 year old has been taking Singulair for about 2 years. It has done wonderful things related to her asthma. But she does complain of frequent stomach pains which I see others also have. However, she is not saying she has severe aching in teeth. She says it is not one tooth but moves around and it hurts. she refuses to eat any food that forces her to chew. And I believe her teeth really do hurt because she is refusing food I know she really likes. Anyone else having tooth sensitivity?

I was diagnosed with Colitis just over two years ago. At the time, I was having severe symptoms and my doctor put me on 40 mg of Prednisone for 3 days, 30 mg for 3 days, 20 mg for 7 and 10mg indefinitely. The 40mg dosage caused me to not sleep at night, severe nevousness and basically feeling like I was on drugs. I felt this way until I got down to 20mg. Initially, I had swollen ankles and overall swollen feeling in my body. After I had been on this drug for more than a few months, I began to notice my hair falling out, my finger nails breaking and a severe tooth sensitivity to cold (never had this before). Over the last two years, I have been on and off of Prednisone and have had the exact same side effects each time. Right now I have been on 20mg for the last 6 months. I am meeting with my doctor this week to discuss some naturopathic solutions to get off of this horrid drug. Any one heard of using ingestible aloe vera as an alternative to Prednisone?

I'm 29... My doctor prescribed Advair 250/50 after I had a difficult case of bronchitis that left me short of breath for some time after. I used the Diskus properly and rinsed well after each use, but still had problems with mouth ulcers and laryngitis. I also experienced:
Tightness in my chest
Severe heartburn & acid reflux (which I've never had before)
Dry, flaky skin as well as periods of severe acne
Muscle & joint pain
Jaw pain & tooth sensitivity
Menstrual disruption (My first period on Advair was very short and light. Then it stopped altogether. I've been off Advair for over a month and am still in this menopause state.)

I recently had Novocaine injected for a lower molar crown insertion. After one week I have been experiencing jaw pain, tooth sensitivity (the molar), sore gum's around to the front (top and bottom), some inner ear sensations, headache and neck pain on that side and muscle actions causing my teeth to chatter rapidly. These effects seem to worsen when I lay down or even worse when I drink alcohol.
