I took Chantix for about a month. It lessened my cravings to smoke, but I started getting heart palpitations really bad. I ended up in the ER one day and the Dr. told me that he had never seen that side effect. He looked up the side effects in his palm pilot, and found that it was the very last side effect in the list. I decided to get off Chantix to see if that would help. Well now I'm going to be on Toprol for the rest of my life. They won't say for certain whether it was the Chanitix that caused it or not. Coincidence? I'm not sure. All I know, is that my heart was completely fine before it, and now if I am an hour late taking the Toprol my heart goes insane. My cardiologist has no clue what happened (I've been to two). I'm only 33 years old, and taking this medication for the rest of my life.
Has anyone experienced heart palpitations after starting Chantix?

I am on this site because I am looking for answers. I just realized my headaches, dizziness and flu like symptoms have increased several times over since going from Toprol XL 100mg to Metoprolol Succinate ER 100mg a little over 3 months ago. Apparently my primary care doesn't read much about these drugs after he prescribes them.
However, one other side effect I notice is what I call brain pressure and throbbing. I also take Quinapril 20mg. Who knows, maybe they work against one another. Can anyone help?

I have been taking toprol xl for approximately 9 mos. It was givien to me for rapid heart beat. My dosage has been doubled twice so that I am on 50 mg. I hate this medicine. I still have some rapid heart beat, I wake up every two hours at night, my legs hurt, and I have gained 20 lbs. I also wonder if it is this medicine that makes me sweat profusely. When I am doing yard work, or anything else in the summer heat, the water just pours off of me. I have never been a heavy sweater and I am out of doors all of the time. I want to get off of this stuff. Can I wean myself off by lowering the dosage a week at a time?

I started taking Lisinopril for my bp about 2 1/2 months ago and even though it did lower my bp, I started having strange side-effects. It started out with drowsiness throughout the day, no matter how much sleep I got. And, waking up feeling drowsy even after 8-10 hours of sleep. Then, I started getting strange aches and pains throughout my body, like I was getting over a stomach flu. My asthma also flared up and I started having to use my inhaler for the first time in almost 15 years (usually I just need it after exercise.) The side-effects continued to get worse over the next months with increased fatigue, drowsiness, coughing, anxiety, muscle aches, poor concentration, feeling like my nerves were "shot," headache, weakness, tightness in my lungs, numbness in my hands and feet, and just plain feeling bad.
I made an appointment to see my doctor because I thought there was something seriously wrong with me. It crossed my mind that I might be feeling this way because of the Lisinopril. I stumbled across this website and after reading everyone's testimonials, I decided to stop the Lisinopril. I haven't taken it in 3 1/2 days, and I am already feeling much better. I would rather try a more holistic approach to lowering my bp then taking Lisinopril.
I hope this helps someone else out there who might be going through the same thing.

I have been on Toprol 25 mg for almost a year for heart palpitations. I has worked for the palpitations, but the side effects have been a challenge. I have gained about 20 pounds, have the vivid nightmares, lack of energy, etc. One thing that I have noticed recently is the increased severity of allergies and difficulty breathing. Anyone else experiencing this?

Reynauds (cold hands & feet), weight gain, joint pain, just plain feeling lousy! Over two years had gradually ramped up from 12.5 to 50 mg.. Since January tapering down, presently at 12.5 mg., on the way to zero.
As of this writing, it hasn't hit the main stream media in the U.S. yet, but earlier today the Brittish press was reporting the fact that in the U.K., doctors are being told to STOP prescribing Beta Blockers. Toporol is a Beta blocker.
Almost everyone corresponding here (including me) apparently has had problems with Toporol. But before whipping out their prescription pads, how many of your doctors have ever asked you anything about your diet, and things like stress in your life which effect your own individual requirements for nutrients and trace minerals??? Probably next to none, because nutrition has not been a part of their medical training.
I am not going to claim anything more than the following might be something you ought to look into.
By any chance has your doctor ever suggested that you take calcium? Even if they haven't, in recent years, calcium has become the darling of the supplement and food industry. Calcium enriched this, and calcium fortified that; it's become a food industry mantra. Calcium is good and very necessary, but simply taking Calcium is not enough. Ca needs helpers if it is even going to do YOU any good. Calcium needs the presence of Magnesium in the proper balance. It also needs the presence of the sunshine Vitamin D. It also needs an acid environment to be properly absorbed. Minerals frequently work in tandem. An excess in one mineral can cause a deficit in another.
Anything in the form of a pill, capsule, tablet, or caplet is something that I dispise having to take. But two days ago, when I woke up in the early morning noticing an attention getting arrythmia, I recognized that I had been neglecting what I shouldn't have been for too long. I got up and took a dose of Ca, balanced with a dose of Mg in the ratio of 2:1, and within a couple hours, there was no further fluttering, and I haven't noticed any irregular fluttering since. Just remember, whatever the cause of my heart's hop, skip, and jump may not be the same cause as that of your's.
Basicly, the heart is a muscular pump whose action is regulated by electrically charged minerals in solution called electrolites. When those electrolites are out of balance, it doesn't work like it should. Period.
Back in the sixties it was noticed that people living in hard water regions (high levels of Ca & Mg in their water supply) had less heart disease. Those living in soft water regions (lacking minerals), had more heart disease. This is not rocket science.

Doc said I may feel drowsy for a while (actually said it will "feel like you were struck by a rolling pin, so try to not be alone") Well, he's honest to say the least. Thing is I have taken three doses, fourth due today. First one was kind of that buzzy pre-buzz feeling you may get if you have had one drink too many, but are not actually "drunk". What I'm finding scary now is the last two nights. Apparently I, ahem, fell asleep while my hubby was trying to (ahem again, sorry) "romance" me - which I've never done and I can't remember much about last night. It's like once I turn off the tv and get ready for bed now, I'm gone waaaaaaaay before I'm asleep .... does that make sence?? Yeah, I'm tired, but even in the times when I couldn't sleep for 5 nights straight I could remember things. Now it's like I'm not even "home"! This may not be because of the medicaiton - I used to "shut down" (dissociate) and pull my conciousness away from stressful situations as a kid, after my dad was struck and changed by a car accident. I'm wondering if this medication, in it's three days in my system, has taken me back a few steps in my progress out of that dark place. Yeah, things are very stressful, but until just now I could recall things and I'm "blinking in and out again". With no memories when I "go" elsewhere. I'm not a multiple personality, just to clarify. I just shut down when too much stress is piled on and it's been a rough 5 months between marital arguments, health issues of my own and my husbands, concern about my child (which parents know is overwhelming in and of itself), my mother has been hospitalized 5 times in 5 months for either heart or lung failure and is a new patient on dialysis. . I worry about my sister and her newborn. . . so it was only a matter of time I guess till my psychological instincts took over, but so fast and so furious? It has to be the Toporol reacting to my own pre-diagnosis. (in my case I don't have another "personality" I just end up going through the motions and remember nothing - I have many blank spaces from when I was a kid, and it all started after my dad went to work one night and got smashed by a truck. He lived, but came home totally different - physically he was ok, looks wise, but inside. . . .he was angry, vicious and not the man who raised me. I say often that he actually DID die that night, in his soul. He's come around lately, but now I'm 32, at the time of the accident I was an 8 year old daddy's girl who didn't get hugs anymore. . .sorry, just wanted to clarify is all) Anyone else have something like this? I don't know whether to be frightened or not even! Feel free to email if you want.

I have taken three 500mg doses and have experienced a rash(Like Poison Ivy) on my face as a result. I am taking Toporol XL100mg and Lipitor 20mg also. However, these have never caused any problems. The Leviquin was for other infection Sinus/Kidney related. The infection seems much better but I will have to change to another antibiotic. I seem to be one of very few people that break out in rash.

I decided a long time ago, Doctor's are not the best listeners!! I am a nurse, I know!! Read my post today June 18th. I have been praying for an answer to all my symptoms, especially the profuse sweating I have been having for the past year!!! I believe I have found my answer at this site. Thank God I found it. All because I was looking up info about Toprol because after the doctor increased my dosage yesterday , today my ankles and feet swelled up like balloons!!!!! Now I have pitting edema!!!
-- By joyce47oh | Reply | (4) replies | Private Message meI have gone to a # of doctor's in the past year and a half and I think they believe it is all " in my head"!!! I have been so depressed. My husband has even threatened to leave me. NO interest in much of anything. I don't know what it is like to sleep anymore :-( My husband says " just close your eyes and sleep like a normal person". Maybe after he reads the posts at this site he will begin to understand that everything I have been going through is "REAL". I am calling my Dr. in the morning and she will WEAN me off this awful drug!!! My BP has been going up since I have been on Toprol instead of going down. I have wondered why the Dr. didn't just change the med. It really makes one wonder. DO the Dr's ever hear what we are saying???? I would be happy to share stories with anyone on this site. How many of you have experienced profuse sweating???? The doctor will WEAN me off this drug!!! :-)
God bless everyone!! I pray you all get off this drug!! It needs to be pulled by the FDA!!!
