Toprol xl 25mg symptoms and conditions

I HAVE BEEN ON TOPROL-XL FOR 2 YEARS. 25 MG. IN AM AND BLOOD PRESSURE WOULD FLUCTUATE UP TO 170/116 AND GO BACK DOWN TO 140/85. THEN WAS ALSO PUT ON NORVASC 25MG. IN PM. I ALSO AM HYPOTHYROID WITH HASHIMOTOS. MY SIDE AFFECTS HAVE BEEN EXTREME. SWEATING, HAVE TO CARRY A PAPER TOWEL OR SCARF TO WIPE SWEAT OFF, SPACED OUT, TIRED, FORGETFULNESS, RACING HEART, LEGS ANKLES SWOLLEN, THEY FEEL SO HEAVY, WEIGHT GAIN, EYES WATER, NOSE WILL HAVE NASAL DRIP, CONSTIPATED, SORE NECK, HEADACHES, THE LIST GOES ON. THIS SUMMER I WENT TO THERAPY FOR MY NECK, HAD ECHO AND WORE 24 HR. HEART HALTER, WHICH I HAVE FOUR EXTRA BEATS, WENT TO ENDRICONE DOCTOR WHO RAN TESTS FOR EVERYTHING, 24 HR. URINE, TESTS CAME BACK WITH TSH HIGH, EVERYTHING ELSE WAS NORMAL BUT FOR MY HEART EXTRA BEATS ENDR. AND FAMILY DOCTOR TOOK ME OFF NORVASC AND PUT ME ON TOPROL-XL 25MG IN PM ALSO AM. WELL FEELING LIKE I WAS READY TO GIVE IT ALL UP, LIKE I WAS DYING, I QUIT TAKING IT LAST NIGHT AND HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THIS ALL YEAR, TRYING PEPTACE AND CELERY SEED EXTRACT. I FELT SO BAD THAT I KNOW IT COULD BE DANGEROUS TO QUIT THE TOPROL-XL LIKE THAT BUT I FELT LIKE MY HEART WAS GONNA BURST AND IT WAS GANNA TAKE ME OUT ANYWAY, AND DOCS. WOULDN'T LISTEN AND I HAVE BEEN IN TO THEM A LOT WITH ALL MY ISSUES. I AM 56 AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ACTIVE, OUTDOORS TYPE PERSON. I WALK 2 MILES ON TREADMILL EVERYDAY AND 30 MIN. OF TAE-BO EXERCISE. I WORK 5 DAYS A WEEK AND HAVE LOTS TO DO AT HOME. THEY TRIED TO PUT ME ON CYMBALTA, LEXAPRO, ELIVOIR FOR THEY SAID WHEN YOU FEEL THAT BAD YOU CAN GET DEPRESSED, I TOLD THEM NO, I AM NOT ADDING ANY MEDS. KNOWING I WOULD GET WORSE. PEOPLE AT WORK, MY FAMILY WILL SAY YOU DON'T LOOK LIKE YOU FEEL GOOD OR IS SOMETHING WRONG, HOW COMPLICATED IT WOULD BE TO EXPLAIN. SO I AM LISTENING TO MY BODY CAUSE FEELING THAT BAD ISN'T RIGHT SO I HOPE THIS WORKS. I COULN'T FEEL ANY WORSE ANYWAY. SO GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL AND ALL OF US ARE UNIQUE TO FIND WHAT MIGHT WORK FOR US, AND MOST THOSE PRESCRIPTIONS ARE FOR ONE THING AND THEN TRIGGER OFF OTHER THINGS THEN YOU GOTTA TAKE ANOTHER MED. I'm a 43 y/o male, on Toprol-Xl (25mg) and Diovan(80-mg) for high blood pressure. I've been on Diovan since it hit the market (no side effects at all) but recently developed a fast heart rate with no explaination. I saw a cardiologist and he put me on 25mg of Toprol-XL once each day.It's been 7 weeks and I'm fairly well adjusted with few minor side effects (slow pulse, cold extremities, weird chest feelings when the Toprol starts to wear off) and a major side effect (lack of sleep and weird dreams).

I read an article that Toprol-XL is time released and the medication has it's peak affect 8-hours after taking the dose. I was taking the medication with dinner, but would then wake up at 3:00 am, wide awake, couldn't fall back to sleep. I now take the medication with lunch and my sleep patterns have improved considerably. My incredibly, sometimes scary, dreams have tapered off too. My blood pressure is picture perfect (usually 115-125 over 70 to 80) and the bursts of rapid heartbeats have stopped altogether (I had an echo stress test, echocardiogram, blood work, 3 EKG's) and all were normal. My cardiologist said all my side effects are normal and that if i couldn't tolerate them he would switch my beta blocker.

I have been on Toprol-XL 25mg for 3 months. Shortly after I started this medication I developed hip/upper thigh pain which feels better when I walk. It seems the muscles are very sore in my legs. Never had this prior to taking this medication. It just gives you a sick feeling. I am going to start weaning myself off of this med by cutting it down to 1/2 a tab. I will say one thing it has regulated the PAC's but perhaps the flutter in my chest that will not hurt me, is better than the side effects of this drug. Of course the doctors deny that this drug has these side effects.

Hi i have just started Toprol-xl 25mg for only 2 days and already have some symptoms of light headed and dizzyness. Also heat flash. Just wondering if i should still take this drug for my extra heart beat.

I have been taking Toprol XL 25mg for about 10 months. I had triple bypass surgery. The only things I have notice is less sexual drive, trouble sleeping between 3 am and 5:30 am, and trouble staying awake between 11 am and 3 pm. My blood pressure stays around 100/55 avg and pulse around 70.

I have been on Toprol 25 mg for almost a year for heart palpitations. I has worked for the palpitations, but the side effects have been a challenge. I have gained about 20 pounds, have the vivid nightmares, lack of energy, etc. One thing that I have noticed recently is the increased severity of allergies and difficulty breathing. Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm 56 yr old male. Started Toprol XL 25mg day for hypertension 2 months ago. I have experienced some of the common effects, like tiredness. But most annoying are muscle pains at tops of both arms; difficult to do many simple activities like getting dressed. Anyone else notice this?

Dull pain in right side started about the same time as starting Toprol XL (25mg) about 2 years ago. Also started being treated for GERD around that time. For the past year, dosage of Toprol XL was increased to 50mg. The GERD is getting worse and dull pain in right side is still there and radiating towards the front and back. Docs have ruled out any problems with kidney, gall bladder, UTIs. All blood work normal.

I have been on Toprol XL 25mg daily since last May. I am now 46 years old and other than this stress-induced high blood pressure, have always been healthy and within normal weight range.

Since then I've had the following side effects:

* NO SEX DRIVE (I'm a newlywed, so this really sucks),
* gained like 15 pounds, cannot lose weight for anything, and I've always been able to lose weight with diet and exercise.
* feeling sleepy a lot,
* more depression than usual,
* and just an all-around-less-energy-feeling.

I found a new doctor and he told me to ween myself off of the Toprol XL, but within two days of going to 12.5mg, I started feeling really, really sick, I can't even describe it, like losing my mind, and my body just felt so strange. Well, at this point I freaked out and went back to 25mg a day. I need to get off of this pill so I can get my sex drive back and also lose the weight I've gained. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with the withdrawal symptoms?

Shortness of breath and heavy feeling in the chest area, indigestion has increased and a feeling of tiredness and my heart still feels like its coming out of my chest while taking toprol XL 25mg for 3weeks. My MD feels it might be anxiety, but i think its from the toprol. I go back to the MD tomorrow. Prior to my hysterectomy (partial-still have tubes), i did not have high BP and I think my BP is not really high, now. Prior to surgery it was normally anywhere from 115-120/70-80. After the HYS, I went to the ER for shortness of breath and pounding heartbeat. It was found that I had a DVT in my right leg, so they started me on Lovenox injections, which was discontinued and Coumadin 6mg. At the same time I was given toprol 25mg daily due to pounding heartbeat (but still was in range under 100) and Davarcet for pain. I stopped the Darvecet after 2 days of being dc'd. It worked for maybe a couple of day after but by the weekend I was calling the MD again due to shortness of breath abd pounding heartbeat. An ultrasound, ekg, echo of my heart and nothing was taken of while I was in the hospital for 2 weeks. Help! anybody experiencing the same feeling?

I have been on Toprol XL 25mg for nine wks.. I have gained six pounds, I get very sleepy during the day to the point of having to lay down and take a nap that last for hrs. Cleaning and doing chores are now a challenge. I find myself just staring at nothing. I am very forgetful, very tired all the time. The worst side effect is I am always overly hot, I am always sweeting even when my body feel chilled inside, it is a weired feeling

I have been on Toprol XL (25mg) for about a month and a half. It was perscribed because I was getting more frequent bouts of rapid heartbeat from mitral valve prolapse. After taking this drug, the immediate first effect was tiredness. Then after about a week I had more pain in the right calf area of my leg. I had some pain in the leg previous to this, so I didn't think much of it. But it got rapidly worse within a couple weeks. In addition, I started to develop severe pelvic/hip/buttock pain on the right side. I was having trouble getting up from a sitting position, getting in and out of cars, and trouble standing on my feet for more than 5-10 minutes. When I asked the cardiologist about it, saying that these symptoms seemed to coincide with the beginning of taking Toprol, he told me that it sounded like sciatica and had no correlation to the medicine. So I went to a different doctor who perscribed anti-inflamatories and physical therapy. But none of it helped, and, in fact, the symptoms got worse. After about a month and a half of all of this, essentially alot of pain and not being able to walk, I decided to wean myself off of this drug (a week of 1/2 dosages). The pain is virtually gone and I can now stand on my feet and walk again (all within the span of a couple days).

I just started Toprol XL 25mg about 3 weeks, and am due to see Dr for a follow up on my BP. It has lowered my BP but have frequent voiding not diarrhea (as someone else noted), tiredness, bloating. I will ask the Dr what this all means and if there is another pill that would be better.

TOPROL XL 25mg (43yr old white male)

I went to the dentist where they took my blood pressure (180/95). they suggested seeing my medical doctor. my doctor started me on 50mg to get the pressure down. the first three or four days I felt like I had run 1000 miles everyday, I was so fatigued. I called the doctor and told him and asked if I could cut them in half (they have a cut line on them). I have now been taking 25mg for about year maybe a year and half (time flys). I am still fatigued but not as badly, I am over-weight by 30-40lbs and I also smoke. additonally, my knees "ACHE", my calves ache and most recently my right hip and my wrists and forearms are aching (like carple tunnel of something). Finally, my indigestion is back (after starting toprol that kind of subsided for several months). I have just been passing it off as getting older and having to chase two small children around.

after reading some of your posts, I wonder if it's not the toprol causing the fatigue, joint pain and the return of my acid-reflux.

I am sitting here typing and my knees are screaming, right now!

has anyone else experienced all these symptoms?
