I took Cipro many times but in November I took it with a prednisone dose pack, this seems to make the tendon issue worse according to todays report.

I have had severe achiles tendon pain for 7 months now. I can't bend my ankle when I walk. I also had surgery for a torn rotator cuff in December, no injury to my shoulder, it just tore.

I have wide spread tendinitis an now I know why. Is this a temporary situation? I hope!!!

After having been floxed back in December, I am finally able to say I'm symptom free. The only permanent damage I have is a floater in my right eye. I'm grateful that I have it because it occurred on the third day of 750 mg levaquin and because of it I stopped immediately. I also had tinnitus, ruptured tendons in my ankle a torn rotator cuff. I had pain in my rib cage that felt like someone punched me in the lungs. I had an eczema like rash on my elbow, neck and back but that went away in a matter of days. I had a low grade fever and night sweats. I noticed real improvement at the four month mark (things were the worst at the 2 month mark) and now at nearly 6 months, I can say I've completely recovered. Make sure to eat organic meats, dairy, eggs and produce because they put fluouroquinolones in non-organic animals and once you've been floxed it only takes a small amount to cause a reaction. I also take supplements--a good multivitmin, extra C, Acai juice, glucosamine and chondroitin with ASU (to stave off the inevitable cartilage erosion) SAM-e and MSM. I'm able to do vigorous exercise with no ill effects and I'm sleeping well. I will not take any prescriptions nor will I trust any doctor unless it's a matter of life or death. As long as we continue to have a "for profit" health care system, our well being will be secondary to the obscene wealth gained by pharmaceutical companies and the entire health care industry. It truly is caveat emptor as long as we live in a country where corporate profits trump the public good.

I have been on Topamax for a little over a year. I've had most of the side effects; tingling, numbness in the fingers, dry mouth, forgetfulness, and weight loss - love the weight loss. All the side effects have sort of slowed down as I've been on the medication longer. The weight loss has slowed and I've even began to get my appetite back- I'm afraid I'm going to start gaining weight now! I've lost about 40 pounds and I needed to lose it, so that was wonderful. I've had a very hard time losing weight all my life so this was wonderful.

I was addicted to Coca Cola and this med also helped me kick that habit because I lost my taste for the carbonation.

Does anyone know if the weight loss usually evens out after about a year or a year and a half? I need to lose about 30 more pounds and was hoping that I would continue losing weight!

Anyway, I was on the Topamax for headaches and it has completely helped that! It has truly been a God-send for me. Other than monthly hormone headaches, I don't get migraines hardly at all!

I am wondering about having my doc up my dosage for the weight loss aspect????

I had a Kenalog injection on Monday, July 23 which was supposed to alleviate pain in my right shoulder due to a torn rotator cuff. Since receiving the shot, my arm has gotten so much sorer and I am unable to use it, even like I was using it before. The pain keeps getting worse; it's only been two days. I will wait and see what other effect it might have on my body.

After 14 months of suffering from Levaquin I am getting worse.

I have had sore ankles and achilles heels for months but last two days this has increased to where I can't walk on them. My shoulders, arms, hands, legs have incresed in pain 50 % in last two days. All I can do is moan, all night in bed and even during day now.

Just loaded up on Lorazepam today.

Also, my nerve system has been severely damaged.

I am over 50. I know what my body feels. Everything involving my nerves has changed from the first 24 hours I took this stuff back in Dec. 2005. My skin feels prickly. My sensitivity to cold and heat is so off and unbearable.

I get haywire feeling all through me all the time. My heart jumps. My ears pop. I feel extreme anxiety.
Everything connected to my nerves seems effected. I get odd bladder feelings. Penile soreness like a nerve twinge.
My intestinal tract is shot. Everything from gastritis to gerd to middle intestinal inflammation. I have diagnosed tendinitis, torn rotator cuff, fractured vertebrae, neck disc damage, etc.
I am low in B-12 to 100 level. Also low in Male Hormone.Have acquired bronchial asthma, sinusits, scarring in left lung.

I do not know how much more I can take. And it all started that week I took Levaquin and "no other medicine".

Hadn't taken any medicne for years previous to this.

I called Ortho-McNeill to complain and they asked what happened to me. I told them I was given this after being diagnosed with beginning bronchitis and low electrolytes at our local ER. The lady on the Ortho McNeil complaint line told me " they ( the ER ) should have never given you Levaquin when you had diagnosed electrolyte imbalance."

She also said they were aware of many complaints of tendon damage.

And no attorney will even touch my case. Go figure. This country is crazy.

I also have had severe side effect from Levaquin. I took 3 pills(1 a day for 3 days). I was given a 10 day supply. By the second day I had a sore shoulder. The next day I could not even raise my right arm. I've been on pain pills, muscle relaxers, etc. No medicine has helped. I was refered to an orthopedic doc and I have had 2 inhections in my right shoulder and just started physical therapyfor 3 days a week for 4 weeks. That has still not correct the promlem, Oh! The problem is a torn rotator cuff.

I am two pills away from finishing my prescribed dosage of Levaquin 500 mg/day for a terrible sinus infection and bronchitis. Both knees are killing me, and I thought I might have a torn rotator cuff over the last few days. I'm hoping these are all related to the med instead of me falling apart! Do they go away after you finish the antibiotic?

I am the person who posted the above message about kidney pain as a bad side-effect of N. use for fibromyalgia -- I use the drug for muscle pain, and to get to sleep at night -- and am at the point of trying to lower the dose, as well as wean myself off of it, before permanent damage can happen to my kidneys (and I hate the brain-fog).

Some research into the chemical and physical effects of the med lead me to believe that it works by helping the kidneys take a certain substance out of the blood stream -- the same way that dialysis works for kidney-failure, so definately Neurontin will affect the operation of the kidneys (see posting on "husband taking it for prostate problems" -- is this because of problems urinating?).

There have NOT been any studies on how Neurontin works -- or dangers/side-effects of the drug --for any other use besides epileptic seizures. If a person is experiencing bad side-effects he or she should immediately contact the doctor who prescibed it and ask for a different med, or for the dosage to be reduced (don't just stop taking it, which is what a lot of people do about bad side-effects -- that could be dangerous.). Such use makes a patient a guiney-pig for research, and the makers of Neurontin have been under attack for aggressively pushing it for what are called "off-label" uses.

If the doctor won't listen to you about this, find another one. IT'S YOUR BODY and no one knows better how you feel inside of it. Also you could experiment with withdrawing yourselve from high levels of the dosage, or asking that the amount of the med in the rx be reduced...fast- withdrawal sometimes causes seizures (as I understand it) and of course you have the complete right to ask a doctor to listen to your symptoms and needs.

Also if you're a person who notices bad effects in a child or a spouse you should make it an urgent project to point the bad effects out to the doctor, to become an advocate for the person who cannot do it. Good luck. JanK in Portland OR (and I am not a doctor, just a person with a lot of experience in surviving the American health system.)
