I started on Ortho Tri Cyclen lo 4 1/2 years ago. About 3 months ago I went in to get my Ortho and was suddenly surprised by the low $7 charge since normally I pay $50(wonderful insurance). I was paying for the generic form(Tri-Sprintec) and for $7 I was all about it! Since taking it the only main side effect is HORRIBLE acne. I am 26 years old and have never experienced acne before.
My general doc told me to finish out the month and switch back to Ortho. He wrote a letter to my insurance company explaining his concerns for my acne and asked them to cover the cost of not only Ortho Tri Cyclen lo but Doxocycline and Defferin. Two medications that he prescribed in hopes to clear my face.
I have experienced larger ta-ta's too. Not that I'll complain about that one though. I've been an A my entire life....

I have been on Tri-Sprintec for over a year now. At first, i felt pretty emotionally unbalanced, so much so that I got an IUD and planned to stop. The IUD was uncomfortable and I kept bleeding. I finished the month's supply of Tri-Sprintec and had the IUD removed. After being on Tri-Sprintec for about 4 months, I felt completely normal and have no side effects. It actually made me LOSE weight and I have perfectly predictable periods. I love it.

Not even 2 months ago, I went to pick up prescription for Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, and the co pay was raised by $30. So I decided to try to generic brand, Tri-Sprintec. Within a week of being on it, I felt like I have gained weight, mainly in my chest area and feeling extremely bloated. I thought that I would give it two months, but now I can zip up my dresses over my chest, and I'm already a 36D! The rest of my body has not put weight on....just my chest within a month! I'm going back to Ortho-Lo at end of the month, I do not recommend this generic brand, and I feel that its worth it to spend an extra $30 a month to feel right!

I was on ortho-tricyclene lo for years and had no problems. I had a baby a year ago and was on a progesterone only pill due to breast feeding. I recently weaned him, and wanted to go back to the ortho. My doctor prescribed me the Ortho, and when I picked it up at the pharmacy it was the tri-sprintec. I gained weight with in the first week of taking this medication. I weighed less when my breasts where engorged with BFing!! Now my breasts are not full and I eat less and work out more and still gained weight!!! This is really discouraging because I work really hard to stay in shape and I am a petite girl, so a few pounds goes a long way on my frame. Anyway, because this is the brand name and not the generic that I want, it is a pain to request the brand name now to get it covered by insurance. I am hoping to go back to the ortho and get rid of this excess weight!!!

tri-sprintec was awesome for me. I took it for 2 months and my boobs went from a 36b to a 36c. I stopped taking Sprintec because I didn't have the money at the time to get a refill and my parents would kill me if they knew I was sexually active *17 years old* and I am currently scheduling an appointment to start taking it again! (: My face also cleared up.

I've been using birth control for nearly 8 years now. I've never noticed a major weight gain other then what is normal for a growing girl (14 -22) I gained some weight on my transition from High school to college and I expected to gain a little weight going from unmarried to married (which I did) but I changed to Tri-Sprintec a while ago (sometime after I got married I'm guessing about 8-12 months ago) and over the past year I've put on nearly 80lbs I can admit some of this is probably from working midnights and not eating properly but over the past 4 months I have changed how much I eat (only about 1/2 of what I ate before and I eat more small meals then I did back then) and I stopped drinking coffee and all Sodas but I haven't lost a single pound actually I think I've went up about 10lbs in the last 5 months. I've started exercising (walking, bike riding, and jogging) but still nothing. I'm debating on getting off Tri-Sprintec because of everything I've heard and the fact that all my life i've struggled with my weight but NOTHING like the past year. I've put on 80lbs since I got married and I figured I would put on some but 80lbs in one year... its never been this bad before.
My husband is ticked because my sex drive is down to nothing and this started about the time that I changed pills but at the time I attributed that to stress and job/schedule changes but the more I read everyone else review the more things are starting to click into place.
This pill DOES NOT shorten your period all my other birth controls have shortened it at LEAST 2 days but with this I'm on anywhere from 7-9 days which really kills me. Watch out for this side effect!!!

I used Tri-Sprintec for three years for my skin. In those three years I didn't *notice* a change in my body or personality other than the fact that my boobs went up 2 sizes and I gained some weight. However, after I QUIT using this medication, I realized that my mind had not been my own for the three years I took it.
I quit in November 2008, and instantly lost 15 pounds and 2 boob sizes. I also came to the realization that in the three years I was on this medication, I was an emotional wall with no ambition and no sex drive (which sucks when you are (19-21 years old).
Now that I have been off it for almost 6 months, I haven't had a period in nearly 4 (going to the doctor next week) and I cannot focus at all. I literally cannot sit down and focus on a school assignment.
I used to write every day before I started Tri-Sprintec, and while I was on it I sort of lost that ability to express anything through words, so I started doing film in school to show what I couldn't tell. Now that I am no longer on the medicine I realize that it is the medicine that made me unable to write. It really screwed with my mind. I can write again! But I am so upset that I missed out on three years of it, because those were very crucial years.
I feel like I was on pause for three years. Does that make sense? Anyone have anything similar?

I just started taking it a little over a week ago. My doctor seemed really half assed in prescribing it. She prescribed it to me stating that it would regulate my periods, which I haven't had in almost 3 months. I've taking blood tests, urine tests and am not pregnant, so she felt that birth control was the best option to make my period come back. I now know that there were many other options for "making my period come back". I have had a bit of a increased appetite with Tri Sprintec. The first day I took it, I felt like my head was going to explode. I was moody, on the verge of tears and had the biggest head ache ever. That was a little over a week ago. This is my 3rd day with the 2nd set of pills in the pack and I'm feeling really nauseous. My boobs are killing me. I can't afford to gain any weight and honestly, all these bad reviews are scaring the crap out of me.

I had been taking Tri-Sprintec for about 4 months. I turned into a very odd person, i was pissed at everything, every tiny little thing would make me cry and i finally ran out of excuses for crying and was thinking was seriously wrong with me. I would break down bawling at work just because I didn't want to go to work that day. It was extreme. Then it actually turned a little bit into depression. It caused major problems with me and my boyfriend. He thought that I wasn't happy with him and I thought that I was crazy for getting mad about everything but I couldn't help it. I was also bleeding for about 10 days and it was heavy heavy bleeding.
I gained about 7 pounds and i ate like crazy, even when I wasn't hungry at all. The only good thing that I noticed was my zits went away for good. I have never had bad acne but a few zits here and there. I don't think I have one zit for the 4 months I was on Tri-Sprintec.
After 4 months being on Tri-Sprintec I switched to Sprintec. I noticed allll the emotional problems that I was having have gone away in an instant. I have only been on Sprintec for about 4-5 days but I haven't cried at all, I have not got into a fight with my boyfriend, I am not sad at all. I haven't noticed anything different about my periods though because I have only been on it for less than a week. I am amazed about the different emotional response to things and very satisfied because that was the main reason why I switched to a different kind.
I used Depo-prevera shot for about 8 years before I went onto the pill. The depo shot was convenient, cheap, and amazing! I never experienced weight gain, mood swings, or anything and it messed up my period so i barely had a period for 3 years. I didn't complain though. Then after the depo-shot I started taking pills because I wanted to decrease the risk of osteoperosis the depo shot causes. The first birth control pill I took was Lybrel and it was amazing, never had any problems, but it was also amazingly expensive so i switched the Tri-Sprintec and here I am on Sprintec now. Thanks for listening to my journey!

I am on my second month of the tri-sprintec and I have been freaking out like some of the girls above about thinking i'm pregnant. My boobs are killing me, i'm eating like crazy, my face is dry,I feel so bloated, and just had a little blood in my urine. I stopped taking BC for about 6 mos. before being prescribed to the Tri-sprintec. Before taking the break from BC I was on trinessa for years which was great and also cheap. No side effects there. I never have bad PMS and this is the worst!

am so glad I'm NOT the only one. I've been on Tri Sprintec for about 3 weeks. The first week was okay, and after that all hell seemingly broke loose. I am over emotional and have little crying fits for no apparent reason. I've begun to pay attention and I notice it is worse after I have taken the pill for the day. Maybe next month I should start taking it before bed, to avoid the nonsensical fits this pill obviously has me going through. It's hard to explain, but I'm ultra sensitive to everything, get occasional cramps, and feel extremely tired ALL of the time. I'm going to a doctor asap before this pack ends...Hope to find a resolution!

I was reading the comments on Tri-Sprintec. I have been on Tri-Sprintec for almost 3 years now and I do not have any of the symptoms that other people have experienced. I was told by my doctor that different birth control medications will affect you differently. He originally put me on birth control to clear up my acne. Tri-sprintec worked for me. I was a virgin when I got married at 25 years of age and I was still on tri-sprintec. I have not gotten pregnant on the medication and I have not had any bad symptoms. For those of you who have had bad reactions... I would take my doctor's advice and find another birth control that works for your body.

It amazes me to read all of these posts. I have been on Birth Control for just over 10 years, and in early November, due to a change in health insurance (SURPRISE, SURPRISE), I had to switch to $7 Tri Sprintec, I have been tracking the incredibly obvious side effects and today is my final straw. In 10 years I have never had any of the issues I have been having. I occasionally have mild to moderate headaches, since November, I have had intense migraines every couple of weeks, I was actually in bed tonight at 6pm, because I was feeling so awful. About 2 weeks in, I also become a raging hormonal maniac, I cry, get angry, and I mean angry (in a scary way) and am unreasonable. My sex drive is gone, and I know this is taking a toll on my relationship of over 2 years. With all of that great crap is the 5 pound weight gain and the early periods. In the past I got my period on a Wednesday and it was gone by Saturday, now 2 weeks???
Anyway, I am going to contact my ob/gyn in the a.m., I hope there is something better out there. This drug is just awful.

I have been taking Tri-Sprintec for 3 months. I switched because my insurance does not cover birth control and I was paying $50 a month compared to $9. But it is not worth saving the money. Since taking Tri-Spritec I have had a 7 pound weight gain, I have terrible mood swings and have feelings of depression. There are days when I can't even stand myself. I get angry at everything and everyone. I also have no sex drive and have days where I just want to be alone. I am going to stop taking these pills they are not worth it.

I also have mood swings. i even have days where I can't stand myself and everything and everyone makes me angry. It it usually in the third week of taking the pills. This site really helped me out.. I think I'm stopping all of this nonsense. It might just be me, but I was on Tri-Sprintec for 2 months when I first started birth control all together, and it made everything worse. I bled way heavier and my cramps were something from hell, TRUST me.
Then my insurance company pretty much screwed me over and didn't give me my birth control for a month.. so my doctor told me that I should just switch since I'm off it anyways.
So.. I get this Loestrin24fe. I take it the first day of my period because my doctor told me that it was the safest way as to not get pregnant. And then I bleed for over 2 weeks... which is NOT NORMAL for me at all. My periods last normally a few days, not 2 weeks! So then I wake up one night throwing up, and I'm a complete bitch to everyone and I'm constantly moody and depressed and my boyfriend is a saint for putting up with me. Not to mention the fact that only a week after my period ended, I was spotting the nastiest brown blood all week. It was terrible and just UGH. And it hasn't stopped..
And then one day I was feeling extremely sick, my head felt like it was 10000 degrees and my stomach felt like something was punching it, and that was the night that my boyfriend said that he hoped I wasn't pregnant. So of course, being 18, I ran out, bought a pregnancy test, and it came out negative. Then I started the brown pills and the spotting I have been getting for almost 2 weeks now just got kinda heavier. No change in the weird brown color, just a bit heavier. And cramps from HELL again.
So coming onto this site made me feel better. I'm not the only person feeling like this is the worst idea of all time.
I have one more pack of this, and I'm going to the doctor soon. I don't want to give this bc a chance if this is whats going to happen to me the whole time. Not having a period? Are you kidding me? Some people put that, I would FREAK OUT!
Something better change in this new pack or me and Loestrin, we're so over.

I just started taking Sprintec on Sunday and it is now Friday. 3 days into it i felt lightheaded, I feel almost spaced out. Nothing seems to make me happy, I am cranky, i have headaches and my head just feels fuzzy. I finally realized by today that it must be the new pills. I am going to stop taking them and see by next week if it makes a difference. I feel very depressed and just not me. So far, i don't like these new pills.

I have been on Tri-Sprintec for 7 years. Over this last year I have noticed my body either skips a month for my period, or I have two periods in 1 month. This month I happened to have two periods in one month and a period starting at different times. Spotting has accrued the last week, and last night at 2 am I woke up crying in pain. I am feeling really depressed, and seem to want to be alone as well. I feel cranky, overwhelmed, my head hurts and my overies. My sister was diagnosed with cysts, and I am wondering if I shouldn't be taking this anymore. A couple of times also in the morning I've headed toward the shower and about blacked out, running back to bed. Is this normal? These side effects have started this year and I have been on it for 7 years? My skin seems normal knowing I also have hypothyroidism. Should I take something else, I have been missing a lot of work, and my doctor doesn't really think nothing is wrong other than taking it some nights at different times. My boobs always feel like they are going to fall off, but better yet I also feel I have gained a lot of weight with it. Going from 110 pound to 140 pounds. Should I be taking something different? If I am off the pill, which I have been my cramps are so horrible, like knives jabbing my insides. I have been crying a lot out of no where, when nothing is that bad, other than whooping doctor bills. Stressed out, and probably on the verge of losing my job over not getting the right help from the right doctor. What do I do? lost of appetite, or some months large appetites, weight gain, weight loss, depressed, angry, mood swings, more than one period in 1 month.

I have been on Tri-Sprintec for about 3-4 months. I was noticing a few odd symptoms and kept asking my roommates if they knew how long I should keep taking it for it to "get comfortable" or for it to "get into my system." I am still on it and feeling very sad, moody, cranky, angry, anti-social and FAT! If you knew me, this is not who I am...I am very positive, happy, and lots of energy. My new boyfriend (of 3 months) is noticing my "critical" nature about petty things...I turn into a complete stranger that wants to be alone, unexpectedly! Very strange, and sad for him! But at least now I know that it could just be Tri-Sprintec....any comments or suggestions?

I've been taking Tri-Sprintec for probably almost a year and love the price since my insurance plan doesn't cover BCPs. However, I haven't been able to lose weight. I have gained about 5 lbs. recently probably from just giving in to cravings, which, I'm always blaming on PMS! I run about 20 miles/week and have a fairly decent diet most of the time and can't seem to lose the weight. Definitely breast tenderness/enlargement the week before my period. Definitely have heavier periods on this pill than others I've been on. Nauseous? Yes. Usually for several hours. Headaches? Occasionally. Not sure there is any pill out there without some side effect.

I switch to Tri Sprintec about two months ago because Ortho Tri- was costing me $35/month and the new generic pill would only be $12/month. I was waiting for a generic form of Ortho Tri-Lo for a very long time (I have been on Ortho-Tri-lo for 19 years without any problems). Well I was so excited and started the generic form right away. Since then I have had HORRIBLE bloating about mid-cycle that lasts about a week. I get so bloated that it hurts to sit and I can't close my pants. I also have been experiencing very bad gas and cramps too. I even went to see a gastro-enterologist because I thought maybe I had a problem with my digestive system. On top of the gas and bloating and cramping I get one hell of a headache that lasts for about four days right during my period! And yes, i have gained about 8 pounds and I just thought it was because I have been depressed and eating more. I bet all this is contributed to the Tri-Sprintec. Well I went to get my Tri-Sprintec refilled and I was informed that it has been taken off the marked and was given my trusty Ortho-Tri-Lo back (yippy!!). I don't know why it was taken off but I am happy that I don't have to take it anymore. I will gladly pay $35 a month to feel normal again. I hope all these symptoms go away and if they do then I KNOW they were caused by the Tri-Sprintec. Anyone know why they took it off the market?
