I have been on Yasmin for a little over a year now. At first I really liked it. I had a horrible time with tricyclen and the effects on my depression and emotional instability ended up ruining a really great relationship. Shortly after that relationship ended, I stopped taking tricyclen and started seeing a counselor. Everything was great and I felt like myself again. I had lots of self-confidence and self-love. When I went back on the pill because I started taking Yasmin. My face cleared up wonderfully and my boobs (which are already an A cup) got even bigger. Both of those things were great benefits to Yasmin. Now, a year later, I'm finding that I'm starting to feel the same way I did when I was on tricyclen. Bouts of depression, anger, suicidal ideations, anxiety, and feeling unmotivated and apathetic. My current boyfriend and I are long-distance now, which might be having even more adverse effects on my emotional state. I am considering going off of it. I've felt this way and it's simply not worth feeling miserable and self-loathing all the time. Other side effects I've felt while on Yasmin are: dry skin, especially around my vagina. I always require lubrication now before sex, which was never a problem before. Also, supposedly being on hormone pills can change the actual morphology of the cells on your cervix. This change makes me bleed after having sex. Not much, but enough that I notice. My physician said this was not a concern though. Altogether, I just don't think my body and my emotions can really handle being on birth control, and I feel as though a lot of people out there are experiencing the same problems!! If you're like me, please let me know of a pill that is working for you!

I am so happy I read this site today. I started Yasmin about 6 months ago and heard from the doctors nothing except good things. I was on tricylcen 2 years prior but wanted to try something new because I found that I gain weight while i was on tricyclen so the doctor suggested Yasmin. It wasn't until I read this site that everything I am experiencing was due to Yasmin.
Probably the biggest side effect was the loss of my sex drive and depression. My sex drive was always high and then within 3 months it was completely gone and it really scared me that is was gone for good and I am only 26. I am so happy to know that this could be the reason because this was starting to put a real strain on my relationship with my boyfriend
I didn't know about it giving you larger boobs, but it makes sense now since I can't fit my bras anymore.
Does anyone has any suggestions of what to do next. Obviously I am going off it once I am done this month, but what pill would you suggest I take?

This is my 3rd month taking Loestrin FE 24 and so far I hate it! I am 25 years old and I've been taking othro-tricyclen for about 5 years and switched to loestrin to have a lighter period. So far I have gained weight, gotten headaches, and skipped 2 periods. The first month I was on it, my period was very light, more like a brown discharge, and lasted about 8 or 9 days. Then I didn't have any periods or spotting for the next 2 months, so I've been taking pregnancy tests, which all come out negative. I have also been having headaches around the time I'm supposed to get my period. It is a terrible feeling to skip a period and think you are pregnant, and this pill makes you have that feeling 24-7! My doctor said that side effects like this are common for the first 3 months, and then they should lessen after that. I will stay on it for another month or so to see if the side effects go away, but if not then I'm definitely switching back!

I was having problems with my birth control pill Marvelon, I just felt like I was PMSing all the time. One minute I was furious at nothing, and then I would just want to cry but about absolutely nothing at all and it was through the entire month not just before my period. I felt like I was going nuts. I had my doctor switch me and she put me on Alesse. But 6 months in my PMS like symptoms are still here but reduced, but now my skin looks terrible. My neck has completely broken out in what is almost a rash except it's all zits. This is what used to happen to me for years while on Tricyclen but the doctors would never believe me! They just kept saying it's meant to cure your acne (which I didn't even have before birth control) when I finally got off tricylin it all cleared right up and never came back after a full year of turtle necks and cover up makeup and that was 10 years ago. So I just had my doctor move me again, she's now prescribing Yasmin, which I hope will be much much better. One thing I do know is when they say it will get worse and then better, they don't know what they are talking about!! if you are still reacting to the pill after the first three months, then try a new one, there are so many options out there and living life with acne that will supposedly 'miraculously' eventually heal is just not worth losing a year of your life with no confidence because a doctor has a hunch it will all fix itself when it never really does. If you don't break out then stay on it and enjoy, but if you do then don't be patient and wait it out, don't be scared to tell your doctor you want to just try something else.

I've been on Yaz for 1 year now. I've been in a deep depression since September ( 6 months on Yaz) for which I've had to seek treatment. It took 4 months to get me straightened out on medications and still daily I struggle with it.
Also I've noticed right shoulder pain, weight gain (60 pounds), no libido, chronic fatigue, bloating with horrible gas.Is all of this from the Yaz or is it my depression or what? I'm having a really hard time sorting thru all of this.

Thank you for starting this website. I thought I was loosing my mind. I have been tracking my side effects for months thinking I had RA, Lupus and/or a thyroid problem. I spent most of Tuesday in the ER due to a migraine that I'd had for a week and a half. Now, normal CTScan, MRI, MRA, and blood tests later, maybe I have found an aswer. Pills are in the trash and my husband has placed an order with theyfit.com. I am 33 and had taken Yasim for the past year after taking tricyclen for 2 years.
My symptoms include:
sever blaoting
weight gain (20 lbs)
tight muscles
joint pain
never ending headaches - now a true migraine
stomach upset
acid reflex
constipation
blurred vision with spots in my line of sight
swelling
tinitus (ringing in my ears)
extreme exhaustion
sever mood swings - particularly PMS related
craving sugar\anxiety and depression
I found a web page regarding homoral deficiencies and my symptoms match up with their checklist. Whatever the synthetic hormone in this stuff is makes us sick! Hopefully, by stopping the pill and letting my body be "normal" for awhile, I will feel "normal" again - 33 not 80!

Before I had my son I had been on Orth-TriCyclen off and on for about 4 years. My periods were always normal and when I went off the Pill it was so easy to become pregnant. After my son was born in Dec. 2007, my doctor recommended Yaz. I've had all the symptoms everybody here has talked about: anxiety, depression, weight gain, very high blood pressure, no sex drive, and just overall not feeling like myself. I just attributed it to post-partum and my body trying to readjust to not being pregnant. But the biggest fear, but secret relief, was the fact that I NEVER HAD A PERIOD!!! not once!!! I think I spotted twice in the course of a year. I would like to get pregnant again in June so I went off Yaz in January. It is March and still don't have a period - don't get me wrong it is kind of nice, but I am also very worried. My doc says its normal, and to just give it time, but I still feel worried that Yaz may have messed up my fertility and I may have a hard time getting pregnant again if I don't get my period back. I haven't received any good info about this - maybe someone else is in this situation -
