Pain in hands and wrist joints. Trigger finger. My hands stiffen up at night and are painful during the day. This has been the main complaint. I've stopped taking the medicine but wonder if the pain will diminish over time or if it's permanent.

I've been on simvastatin for about 8 years - recently increased to 20mg pd. Side-effects seem to match up very closely with other posters. Back and shoulder pain, often quite acute. Pain in left side under ribs. Various stomach pains and a general feeling of being unwell. Recently had treatment for trigger finger on right hand.
I'm fairly certain that the longer one takes this medication,
a/ the side-effects gradually get worse and
b/ the side-effects last longer when you stop taking the drug.

I used Simvasta 40 for over a year. I started to experience awful pains in my back and thought is was due to my hernia in my lower back. When I went to my GP he said the pains were muscular and could be a result of taking Simvasta 40 to lower my cholesterol. I stopped taking them and now I have some days without pain. I hope it will improve gradually.
I also have developed Depuytren in my right hand. I am a woman and it does not run in our family. I'm 58 and all these problems started while taking Simvasta 40.
I see someone else has developed Trigger finger, I wonder if this is the same as Depuytren.

Trigger finger developed in fourth finger of both hands. More severe on the right. This comes and goes with exercise and if I am careful to sleep with my hands open. I've never had this problem before and am not prone to joint problems. My father had severe gout. I've asked if my reactions to the statin drugs might be related to this potential hereditary problem but was told there is no relation. Anyone else with family (or personal) history of gout who is also having side effects from statin drugs?

I initially started taking Lipitor from my doctors prescription about two and a half years ago, after I was diagnosed with type two Diabetes. (as well as taking blood pressure medicine and a diabetes pill twice a day) I didn't really notice any side effects for a about a year and a half,(I now realize that I was starting to have them, but didn't know they were attributable to lipitor)until about 8 months ago when my doctor increased my liptor from 20mgs to 40mgs. She did this because the cholesterol limit had been lowered.

I immediately started to get more tired and fatigued. Lots of muscle aches and lethargy. I noticed more tingling (especially at night or upon waking)in my right arm and especially my fingers on both hands. As well as feeling of having arthritis. I previously had some tingling and shoulder pain in the past, but I had always attributed this to the fact that I am a cameraman and carry cameras on that shoulder. (I had memtioned some of my pains to my doctor 8 months ago and she sent me to get an x-ray for my neck and shoulder which ended up negative.) At this same visit 8 months ago, my doctor increased my Lipitor dosage and then I really had more noticeable problems with my right neck, arm, elbow and fingers. I could not sleep on my left side because my whole neck would tingle, and I was having severe pains in my right elbow like tennis elbow, I also developed a trigger finger (kind of a bad arthritis feeling)where I can barely close my right middle index finger. It hurts and throbs most of the time, and I can't close it normally without pain. And when I try to open it up, it kind of pops open like the knuckle is stuck...I am going to get it x-rayed. It was also very hard to concentrate, and my memory was getting worse.

I recently went to see my doctor about all this fatigue and muscle aches. I asked her if my symptoms could be from the lipitor (because she once said to tell her if I develop any bruises or muscle aches) and she said they could and that some people won't take statin drugs because of the side effects and that people do a lot or research on the internet. Anyway, she was going to schedule a blood test for muscle enzymes that would possibly show muscle weakness from my prescriptions, but she looked into my mouth and said Aha! You have strep throat! And she totally blamed all my symptoms to strep throat and prescribed antibiotics. She even said that my finger could be a by-product of the strep throat. I never even had a sore throat! I took the antibiots for the 3 days and then I did my internet research and found this site and I couldn't believe my eyes that so many people were having the same type of symptoms and problems from taking Lipitor.

Well here I am 3 or so weeks later and I have stopped taking Lipitor! I have a ton more energy and am not tired all the time. I can also concentrate better and I also noticed my memory and attentiveness has gotten better since I stopped taking Lipitor on August 7th. I still have my trigger finger though, it hasn't gotten any better. But most of my muscle aches have gone away. I am going in soon to my doctor again and show her all this information from the web site.

I will probably try some of the natural remedies that I have read about on the website to lower my cholesterol and also mention these to my doctor.

Started on Fosamax when I started Femara in Nov 2004. I did notice increased body stiffness but did not atribute to either drug. About two months ago I developed trigger finger on my right thumb and attributed it to mild lymphadema following flying without my jobst sleeve. However, that thumb is now fenlarged, frozen, and very painful and I have developed pain and triggering in the left thumb, middle finger and right toe. I know my oncologist and primary med physicians are going to be reluctant to attribute to Fosamax. They have the same information we have.

I have also developed a trigger finger on my right hand and since so many others have mentioned this problem I would like to know if anyone who stopped the Zocor sometime ago has experienced improvement as I was sent to a hand specialist who suggested a cortisone shot or surgery. I am not ready for either at this point.
Thanks for any info on this. I hate to think that this condition won't go away after the Zocor is out of my system.

I was on Zocor for 1.5 months. I developed muscle pain & weakness. My Doctor was on vacation when this first began occuring. By the time I was able to see the Doctor, I had developed Trigger thumb on my left hand accompanied by carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger in 3 fingers of my right hand and carpal tunnel syndrome in the right hand as well. I am in custom splints for my hands/wrists and can barely lift my arms to shoulder height. The extreme fatigue and muscle pain in my shoulders, neck, back, hips, legs and feet was significantly reduced when I was taken off Zocor. However, I still have significant problems with my arms and hands.

Hi, I am a 57 year old male. I have just read all the problems experienced by others on Zocor. I was taking Lipitor for several years with a lot of lower abdomin pain off and on. I also developed trigger fingers in three finger of my right hand. I took myself off of Lipitor and in about 4 weeks all the lower abdomin pain was gone and I felt great again. Of course the trigger finger problem is still there, but that I can live with. Then about 2 months ago my doctor said my cholestrol was up and he wanted me to start on Zocor. He gave me enough samples to last until I go in for a blood test next week. I have decided that I will not take any more statin drugs. I have experienced a lot of pain in both my hips and down my legs. Muscles ache for no apparent reason. I feel out of breath and exhausted after just two flights of stairs. Tearing up at the least little thing, and a general crappy feeling. Sex drive is a problem and sleep problems, which I have never in my life had before. Also it feel like my heart is skipping a beat or something when I go to bed a night. Blood pressure and pulse are fine. I think depression is also a big problem with this drug. I would think long and hard before taking this drug. I believe that they need a better way to get your cholestrol down to a lower level.
