I started taking this on October 8 for a sinus infection. by the 13th I was suffering intense headaches, nausea, fever of 102 and anxiousness. I thought that on top of my original ailment I also had the flu. After 2 doctors and a trip to the hospital in which no one thought of the side effects of this drug, and with the discovery of a full body rash 2 days ago, I finally called my pharmacist yesterday who told me to drop the drug. I then looked up everything I could find myself and this is obviously the result that so many people describe. I am now on benadryl and prednisone and still quite miserable. I think they should take this off the market since so many people have a bad reaction!!!!!!!!!!!

I was taking prevacid for 6 years with no problems, then the insurance insisted I switch to omeprazole and after 2 weeks I developed severe upper abdominal pains, almost like a heart attack, with nausea, vomiting, weakness and cold sweats. It was a trip to the hospital and my primary care physician who swore that it could not be the Omeprazole and to continue. After the 2nd bout a week later I insisted that it was the meds and wanted something different. As I started taking something different I started feeling better after a couple of days and felt like I was over the problems after about 10 days and have had no problems since. Just the $7,000 medical bills.

My OB/GYN told me to this pill, on the Sunday that i got my period. I took this pill and never stopped bleeding. i bled for a whopping 34 days. and it wasn't a light spotting either. i went through 6-8 pads a day. i had heavy cramping, almost like i was giving birth again. i took numerous trips to the ER and they just checked and seen how much blood i lost and sent me on my way. the last trip to the hospital was the last time I've taken this pill. This pill makes me feel like blugh!!! like i would have an i don't care attitude.

Like many patients, I started out on a low dose of Lamictal. Eventually, I was taking 300 mg. This seemed fine for awhile. Then, I started feeling a bit down, so the doctor increased the dose to 400 mg. Increased dosage does not necessarily mean improvement in mood (bipolar). I began to experience a good number of the adverse side effects reported here, including excessive fatigue, gastrointestinal disturbances, cotton mouth and very bad taste in my mouth, muscle tension (particularly in my legs), forgetfulness and confusion, and sinus and chest congestion. At one point in time, I even had difficulty articulating words.

Though I did not suffer from rash, I have been up in the middle of the night with itching all over my body. I had a few episodes of mouth sores and one pimple on my chin. Many of these have improved since the doctor brought me back to 300 mg. However, they have not entirely disappeared. I continue to suffer from the excessive fatigue many of you have reported here.

I recently had a blood test and learned I have very low levels of Vitamin D and Vitamin B-12. I do not know if there is any relationship between long-term use of Lamical and these test results. However, I do know that low levels of Vitamin D can cause fatigue.

Though I am willing to follow through with further blood tests, I am beginning to understand why some people are tempted to discontinue their medications. I am so tired of being so tired and sleeping so much. When I finally get up, I am still tired and drag through the day.

Sometimes, I think I'd rather have a down day or two than take this medication. I should add, though, that my bipolar is not severe, and that I am only reporting how I feel. I'm certainly not recommending anyone discontinue medications for this or any other condition they may be suffering from. If I were to recommend anything, it would be to get a second opinion if one is concerned about his or her treatment.
If I were to make any suggestion to doctors, it would be this: more is not necessarily better. Send your patients for blood tests (mine were ordered by my M.D. and not by my psychiatrist). Increasing the dosage--at least of Lamictal--might result in a host of negative side effects. Your patients might then become disillusioned with their treatment and give up.

If anyone out there has suffered from B-12 and D deficiencies, let me know. I'll let you know what I find out.

And remember, most doctors are really trying to help us.

I have Crohns and had a flare up so I'm back on 40mg of Prednisone. I've been on 40mg now for 3 weeks and I start to tapper off in another 3 weeks. Well every time I start the prednisone again I get new side effects. This time, my gum are bleeding all the time and the pain in my knees are horrible! I still get the regular side effects, ie: Mood swings, joint pain, sleeplessness, sweating, swelling of my legs and hands, wanting to eat everything under the sun, moon face and my hair falls out! I wish the drug manufactures could develop a drug that would not be so hard on our bodies. I have to struggle with the pros and cons with every flare up. Do I want the weight gain, mood swings and hair loss or do I want to look good and be very sick! I'm 37 and was 16 when I found out I had Crohns.
