I am so happy I stumbled apon this website. I thought I was losing my mind. I was on Yasmin for 3 long years and have been off for a month now. I am 37 and was on Triphasil 28 for 17 years (with no issues), my derm told me to switch my birth control to help my acne, worst decision of my life. I have lost all of my friends, my moods and me being paranoid all the time drove my friends away. I am so dry that I itch all the time. I have loss half of my hair, my scalp is sore and itches non stop. I have gained weight and my blood pressure is high. How do you go from a 34 year old normal woman to a 37 year old medical mess? YASMIN. every time I asked my doctors if it could be the pill I heard the same answer over and over NO! I was told that it was age and stress. Hello I am 37 not 97. Stress wouldn't you be stressed if all of a sudden you weren't the same person and no one had reasons why.Well I am no doctor but we cant all be making this up. I am hoping and praying that all of this isn't permanent and that I soon will grow my hair back and that my happy old self will come back. I wish doctors would stop prescribing this horrific drug!

It is so crazy that I found this site today, and super glad that I did....I should have went with my gut 3 months ago when I wanted to stop taking this pill...but now for sure I will!!
I originally started taking a Triphasil pill when I was 14..then it changed to Trivora, and I never had any problems with those pills....then when I moved to California when I was 19 I got greedy and wanted no periods (or short ones at least) so I tried Loestrin...which by the way made me bleed for 58 days straight...I thought I was going to die! So my doc prescribed me Femcon...and I said I'd try anything to get me to stop....It was fine the first few years but I was diagnosed with the first stages of Hypertension 2 years ago (age 24) and I blamed all of my bc symptoms on that! I thought, ugh I hate getting older cause now I have side effects like crazy...well I don't think its my blood pressure, and I wouldn't doubt that FEMCON has helped cause my high BP!!! Always tired, fatigue, WEIGHT gain like crazy, moody, ZILCH sex drive (poor bf), jawline acne (always was blessed with nice skin!), depression (poor bf again, we broke up constantly) and just recently nausea...no food can satiate me...I thought I was going crazy....Im getting off this crazy pill and hopefully I will get back to being normal...I'm 26...I'm not old!! This definitely is birth control cause I don't have sex, and I feel like a total fat @ss all the time!! It sucks!! I sure do feel like it and I'm stopping this pill today! I hope this site helped you as much as it did me!!

I've been on nuvaring for 2 years and its the best birth control that I've used so far. The only side effects that I get are occasional hot flashes. I do experience some mood swings, which are "PMS" type mood swings, which have lasted only a few hours right before my period starts.
The hot flashes can be annoying but they are manageable, these happen to me when I have had the one week break from NuvaRing and then insert the new ring, the first day or two, i experience hot flashes.
Other than that, my sex drive has not changed, it is very normal and healthy.
I have been on various birth control pills, in the past, for 6 years. Ive tried "ortho-tri cyclen", which made me feel bloated, moody and depressed. I've also tried "ortho-tri-cylen lo"and it made me feel the same way. I have also tried Triphasil and it caused me to feel depressed, and i experienced bloating.
I do have to say that all of the Birth Control pills were more effective in controlling acne than with the NuvaRing.
I still get quite medium to heavy periods with NuvaRing with some menstrual cramps, however, the cramping does not last very long and it is a lot lighter than when I am not taking any birth control.
Overall, nuvaring is working for me so far. I recommend trying it out and giving it a minimum of 6 months trial before giving up.
Also, I found that taking a break from all birth control methods for about a year, and using other barrier methods (aka condom) have also helped me, as I felt like it gave me a break from synthetic chemicals and my body was able to be "natural" for awhile, I felt that was psychologically and emotionally a good idea for awhile. So if you feel like you are switching and just completely all over the place, I suggest that you might try taking a break for yourself, as a woman, to restore the biological settings and maybe try again with something new after a long period of time.
cheers : )

Muscles spasms, sensitivity to light, burning sensations up and down my arms and legs, racing of heart, horrible sinuses, migraine headaches, chronic fatigue, hair loss, dry skin, Candida, acidity (low PH), low immune system, acne, joint pain, and the list goes on and on.....
My doctor told me I was fine and suggested I go on an anti-depressant. I am not depressed I told her. Since my doctor and other conventional doctors weren't helping me (all they wanted to do was prescribe more horrible drugs) I decided to seek an alternative MD. He said all these symptoms can most definitely be from my birth control. I went off Triphasil (Trivora) 3 weeks ago and am taking some herbs that are supposed to help correct the damage the medication has done. I now have a whole in my kidney, cysts in my ovaries, spots on my lungs, and an infection in my stomach (yeast also known as Candida). I have been sick for over 6 months now and am finally ready for this to be over. I can no longer go to the gym, work a full time job and enjoy social functions/outings. It is emotionally and physically damaging. Those of you who are on it...please stop! It is ruining your insides and making you weak. I am 30 years old and was on Trivora/Triphasil for 6-7 years. What a mistake. This is the ONLY drug I take and I used to be perfectly fine. As a matter of fact, I used to run 10 miles a day and now I can't even walk 30 minutes in the gym. Needless to say, I am very angry at the doctors for prescribing such medication to me, for the FDA for approving it and for our government for not doing their due diligence.

i have been taking femcon for 3 months now and for the first month was smooth sailing. for the past 2 months i have been experiencing severe mood swings, extreme anger issues, depression, and the worst of all i feel like i cant breathe and my lungs aren't filling up with enough air which causes me to go into these crazy panic attacks. the breathing issues seem to be coming on more frequent now and worsening. it has caused problems with my job because i have to take long breaks to catch my breath. i have made an appointment with my general practicioner thinking that i am having lung problems, but after reading everyones comments it makes me second guess myself and my problem could actually be femcon. hopefully by stopping femcon, i will be able to get my life back to normal again. i never want to suffer again from the feeling that i cant breathe.

Okay, i am a 28 year old healthy woman. I have had a few anxiety attacks due to moving, new job, being a single momma and etc. But they are under control.
However, last month i started Yaz to help with mild PMDD which had developed after i had my daughter ( who is 2 now and awesome!!!). Well I thought it was okay at first then 2 weeks into it i started my period and bled for 2 weeks!!!! i have never had a period that long, i thought my blood would be low by then end of it. Well, i also had migraines, which i have never had before. Every morning when i woke up my head pounded. So, i have started the second pack and it has been awful, my lower back is hurting so bad, my anxiety is peaked and i am all shakey. Not to mention i feel like crying my eyes out. Oh and i have eaten 2 pieces of bacon today due to nausea. I couldn't believe it was the BC. When i was young i had taken Triphasil and ortho tricyclen. And i remember them being okay. But not this one.
So tomorrow my gyn. is putting me on Ortho-lo so hopefully it will work. I hate we all have to go through these side effects, but i guess that's how it goes. God bless everyone i hope we find some answers! :o)

My Mirena Removal....
So i posted here a few weeks ago after I found this site. I had EVERY side effect listed and was so freaked out that i immediately made an appointment for removal.
For those of you reading and wondering what the removal is like..
Well, NOTHING like the insertion. I was so so nervous and it was over before we actually started. The DR was surprised that i was back in his office to have this removed. He then proceeded to do an ultrasound to be sure it was placed properly before removal. And yes, all was OK on the position of it. I explained to him my reasons and he looked at me like he had never heard this before. I honestly can not imagine with all the women he sees that NONE of them have complained. But...as I was getting dressed afterwards, I took a good look in his office. There was Mirena literature ALL over the place. In fact, that was the ONLY thing he was advertising. Not to mention...they made me pay up front with the insertion back in Nivember...billed my insurance and I still have yet to receive my reimbursement. Oh yeah, and that...they charge more than the actual Mirena costs, then they bill your insurance for the price they know they will pay and the DR then makes about $150 profit. Nice.
Ok, back to my side effects post Mirena. The removal was not painful at all. I did spot for about a week- nothing too heavy but it was clotty and def there.
A couple of days after the removal it felt like I was coming out of my skin something terrible. I figured this was my body adjusting to the lack of hormones. I also had some headaches.
It has now been 2 weeks and the spotting has disappeared. I also can see the bloating of my stomach is starting to go away. It looked like I was about 4 mos preggo while I was on it. I also have an increased sex drive. And sleep-- well let me tell you, I have not slept this good in a very long time. I am actually sleeping more than 6 hours now and the night sweats have also discontinued.
I can't believe EVERY time I come to this site and look up Mirena ALL the people that have posted their experience as being negative. Yet, the DR looks at me like I am crazy! I have been seeing him for years and I have never complained about something like this. I really am so happy that I have it out and wish I would have done my research on this prior to insertion (which was one of the most painful things ever!)
So..for those of you out there that are either contemplating having it inserted...I say NO WAY. And for those of you out there that are nervous about the removal or not sure..I SAY YES, DO IT! For our bodies to be reacting this way, it is clear to me that it should not be inside of us. Listen to your bodies...they really do speak to you and let you know when something is not right. Forget about the DR saying it is safe or he has not heard of any of these side effects...YOU be the judge.
Good luck! And I promise it gets better once you get that lil' demon out!

I'm so happy i found this I thought i was loosing my mind, little did i know all my problems had one cause. I've had time were a headache has lasted 3 days, I used to play sport now i'm to lazy to move let alone go outside. I've been depressed before in my life but none quite like this, I'm happy right now but i have days were i look at my partners face and i'm disgusted by him, i don't want to be touched i just want to curl up in a ball and feel nothing at all. What else... as soon as i started on Yasmin my skin went to hell became dry and itchy and blotchy, dead libido, pimples on my chest, it's just screwed with all my hormones, my hair is dry one second oily the next and it used great no effort, now my only option is to have it tied up all the time. I have also had major anxiety attacks and stress about minisucle things like not having anything to do! ridiculous.
I've tried other pills before with no prevail, i've decided to cease use of Yasmin and have given up on all pills...i say unless you allergic to laytex i say condoms are the way. I'd rather give up sex than live like this any longer.

I started out on Estrostep, then Triphasil, then Orthotricyclin-lo, and now I am currently on Yasmin. I have noticed I have more mood swings with yasmin, more acne (i used to have a VERY clear face), and a sex drive that is barely there!!! Also,I have headaches, some mild and some severe, just about everyday!! Most of them come on suddenly, and last for quite some time! Tylenol helps, but doesn't take them away! Although I do have side effects, my periods have become MUCH shorter (from about 14 days before any birth control pills, to about 9 with the above mentioned pills, to like 4 days with Yasmin) and with very little cramping. With all of the pills i've been on, i've noticed some weight gain associated, but nothing severe! If anyone has any suggestions to a pill that has fewer side effects, please let me know! ~Thanks

Hi ladies,
I just wanted to put my side effects out there. I was on Triphasil for 6 years and switched to Yazmine just because I wanted something new, well I'm going back to Triphasil. I've been taking Yazmine for 2 months now and I've had enough. The gas, bloating, and cramping before, during, and after my period are nothing like they used to be. I have cramps no where near time to start and that's not normal. The gas is terrible. I normally only got bloated right before time to start and now it's 24/7 30 days out of the month. The gas pains are terrible and I already have I.B.S with constipation. I had my IBS under control and now I am back constipated. Yazmine has taken it's toll and I'm through with it.

Okay. So I was on Depo Provera for 4 cycles a few years ago....and hated it. So, I went off of birth control for about a year. My doctor put me on yasmin about 2 years ago. I had no problems at first, but for the past 5 months I have been having abnormal hair loss, weight gain, mild depression/mood swings, and I am easily aggravated. I don't understand this, but it sounds like others are experiencing similar side effects. I tried NuvaRing, but only for one cycle. I didn't like too much. Are there any BCP's that anyone knows about that don't have these side effects? I've tried Ortho-Tri, Ovcon, Triphasil, and now Yasmin...thanks to whomever started this side effect posting.

Having not been on birth control pills for quite a few years....I was recommended by my gynecologist Yasmin. She told me it had a diuretic effect and may increase potassium levels.
She did not tell me what else it might do to my body.
I stayed on it for a total of 6 days......terribly depressed, angry, fretful sleepless nights with disturbing dreams. I was an emotional wreck, crying uncontrollably and feeling so sad over everything.
I would not recommend this BCP to anyone. I had been on Triphasil for almost 13 years with no such side-effects after taking a break for 4 years before going back on a BCP.

I believe Yasmin is good for some, not good for others. I was on it for a month (3 weeks, really, since the last week is just sugar pills), and found myself dead tired every evening. I thought that maybe it was the work schedule I was on, but realized I've been working super hard before, and was certainly tired, but not as exhausted as I was. The week of sugar pills, I paid attention, and sure enough, my energy is getting back to normal. Not sure if it was the Yasmin or what, but I figured better safe than sorry - I'm going back to my original stuff, Triphasil.

I was on Yasmin for six months. During that time, I completely lost my sex drive. I had recurring yeast infections that would not go away. I got pains in my right side that sent me to the hospital and had constant stomach pains that my doctor at first diagnosed as an ulcer. I was frequently nauseous and vomited several times during the course of six months, which is highly abnormal for me. I was spotting CONSTANTLY and from out of nowhere. Many pairs of underwear were ruined. My period was abnormally heavy and different from anything I'd ever experienced before. On top of all these joys, I became extremely moody and depressed. After six months, I switched to Triphasil and now I'm back to normal. Every person reacts to medication differently. Some people will do really well on Yasmin, but there are some really negative potential side effects with this pill that people just going on it should consider.

My sex drive is GONE! I blame Yasmin.....I have been taking Yasmin now for 4 months and not only has my sex drive dissapeared, but I have become emotionally NUMB.
I dont know what to do about this because the Ortho was worse, and Triphasil didnt do anything for my moods.....Im stuck.

I am in the 5th month of taking Yaz. My dr put me on this because I was complaining that I didn't feel right as I am getting older. I am 36. I was on triphasil and was starting to feel more intense symptoms during my periods. Heavier bleeding, cramping, extreme moodiness and of course, migraines. Dr thought Yaz would help and switched me. The first couple of months were fine. Then I started having anxiety, Occasional blurred vision. I have felt "wrong" for a long time now. The worst has been "constant" migraines. I have taken some sort of over the counter medicine every single day for months now. A friend told me her doctor took her off Yaz after her blood pressure sky rockited. I decided to check mine and sure enough it was way over what is considered high. That explains a lot!!! I have stopped taking this pill. It made everything so much worse.
