I had a cough for a few days, which didn't improve,my wife insisted that I go to the Doctor to have it checked. The Doctor determined that I was either getting over a slight case of pneumonia, or it was just beginning. He prescribed LEVAQUIN 500 MG for 10 days. I took the first pill in the evening of Feb 3rd. When I went to bed, I was not able to sleep, I was short of breath, my heart rate went to 140, I did not sleep the entire night, my heartbeat was also irregular and I have a terrible headache. The next AM, I went to the Doctor and he said that I should continue with the LEVAQIUN - and that the symptoms were not related to the drug. - I have had and irregular heartbeat in the past, but no like this. The Doctor insists that the LEVAQUIN did not cause the problem. Then he put me on Toprol - to slow the heart rate. I took the Toprol and took the 2nd dose of LEVAQUIN last night. My heart rate is down, but still irregular, I didn't sleep, have anxiety, shortness of breath and don't feel right. Went back to the Doctor today and he still insists that the LEVAQUIN didn't cause this. Thank God that I found this website and others, I have stopped taking the LEVAQUIN. I already feel better, and hope that I don't get any other of the side effects.

Hello,

I have just gone through a series of tests and a heart cath over the holidays. I have MVP and two other leaky valves. I have known about these since I was 28, I am now 62. I have had problems with the valves, skipped beats, faster beats early on in diagnosis. Just this Nov., I started with problems again, thus the tests were completed. They found Ven. Fib, fast and skipped beats, therefore putting me on the Toprol XL Tab SA. I have only been on this 7 days. New Year's Day, 4 days after the heart cath, I started with fever and chills, only to find out 2 days ago I have full blown strep throat. This makes me wonder if I had this before the heart cath was performed, as I had complete exhaustion,.... anyhow, I took myself to my family doc and she is taking me off of the Toprol and after reading all of your reports I am very glad. She treats me with herbs and has for years, until this episode, I have been very well, I am actually an energizer bunny due to her efforts! So I am working with her on herbs to build my system back up and support for the heart. I hope the rest of you can find a way to wellness that works for you. I know many people don't believe in herbs but I firmly do! Don't be afraid to try herbs if you can afford it! I am 62 and don't look it or act it, like I said until this episode and it truly makes me wonder if it wasn't the infection playing the biggest part. What concerns me is why that was not caught in the first place? Anyhow, take heed to your own body warnings, other people do not know what is transpiring inside of you, only you can know this. Thank you Doctor ** for keeping me well!

Just started Troprol two weeks ago for anxiety and high blood pressure...Now my anxiety is more than ever, and trying to get the ringing in my ears to stop...Yes I was under stress when this happened (closing on house, lots of dental work being done, and work itself). Never had blood pressure problems before. I don't feel just like myself now. Just wondering if Tropol is the cause?

I went from 50mg in June 2006 to 200mg in August. Now I have trouble breathing when I try to do much of anything. So, my doctor now has put me on Proventil, after informing me that this sometimes happens from taking the Tropol.
I have been trying since June to lose weight and get off this medicine. I eat a lot less, but it is really been hard. Not losing much. I am also sad, which is not normal for me.
The drug keeps you heavy and then, of course, you need the drug for BP. And now I am having trouble breathing. Got to get off this drug.

very interesting as I read the above side effects people have experienced. I was put on toprol - l00mg two years ago. I have always been a healthy female = only going to the Dr. for yearly check-ups. Never having the flu, colds, and always low blood pressure. I was exposed to a chemical that immediately increased my blood pressure. Had a clean bill of Health with low blood pressure two weeks prior. I was put on Tropol 50 mg and then l00 mg. I had dizziness, tired, etc. but never related it to the possibility of the medicine and neither did my doctor. I was sent for tests for the dizziness and ended up with a pace maker. After reading the above side effects people have written in about - I wonder what actually created my problems. I always have dry mouth and dry eyes, which I never had before. The reason for pacemaker is if I should go into a faint spell it will kick in and not allow me to faint as I had three episodes of fainting. I also was given every test imaginable prior to the pacemaker. My heart and arteries are fine, cat scans, my heart beats are fine, all arteries flow properly. I now wonder about the medication.

I have a history of minor gout attacks of about 2-3 a year. I started on toprol xl in December of 2005. I have experienced a continuous gout attack from Jan to today's date 06/20/05 and highly suspect that Toprol is triggering them. I have discontinued the
tropol for two days. The attacks ranges from minor to severe sometimes located in both feet at the same time.

I was prescribed 50 m of Toprol. After taking it for almost a year, I produced muscle pain in back of hands and the tops of my feet and toes. fingers feel arthritic. Lifting elbows have limited range of motion without pain.

Doctor finds nothing wrong. I know my body and that it is the Tropol. I want to get off of this stuff ASAP. I have been taking every other day until my next doc appointment.

Don't they study these drugs before prescribing them to people? Being in this kind of pain from head to toe - I wonder what it could be doing to the muscles of the heart.
