I am a 58-year-old woman that changed from zetia to zocor about 6 months ago because of the price of zetia AND I had tolerated the zetia ok but my chol was still elevated. My initial dose of zocor was just 10 mg, even though I had a lot of aches and pains from the slighest exertion I really did not connect this to zocor. After my last checkup, the doctor wanted to up my dose to 20 mg daily because my chol was 228 (liver functions were all ok). I have been doing that for 6 days and my legs have become very achy, my left knee has swollen above my kneecap (which is very painful), and my lower back hurts. I have been having a lot of trouble sleeping and feel draggy all the time. I got on the net to research these symptoms when I found this site. I am going to go off this med and see if my condition improves! I will post an update as to the results.

I take nuvaring for a year by now, get a lot of symptoms but I just realized with my husband that my problems are just caused by my medication. After I have read all of yours posts, I REALLY think theses come from this. My symptoms are the following: shortness of breath, night sweats, trouble sleeping, nightmares, depression, anxiety and problems with my skin. Don't take that!!

Buyer beware. Was fine the first time I took it, which was for a total of 1.5 years. When i took it out after realizing my mood was different on it, i got amazingly bad breakouts that, nine months later, still remain. for some reason i chose to begin it again recently and have had shortness of breath, increased anxiety and depression, NO sex drive, trouble having orgasms, trouble sleeping despite extreme fatigue. have had night sweats, etc. it's mid-cycle and i just took the damn thing out and hope this nightmare subsides. NEVER AGAIN NUVARING, or any other hormonal birth control for that matter.

Hi
My husband has been prescribed 2 different blood pressure meds Lisionpril and metoprolol back in June. Come mid July he started to have trouble sleeping and slight tingling in hands and feet. Then it progressed to the arms and legs and then the face and chest. We have seen cardiologist, neurologist, sleep apnea doctors, Had EKG, MRI, Heart sonograms, Nerve test done due to the symptoms. Everything came back normal. He is miserable. The burning and pain is unbearable to wear he wants to cut his feet off and the only thing we keep hearing is well LETS DO ANOTHER TEST or TRY THIS MED. So now he is taking a a sleep med for insomnia and some seizure med for the nerve pain, thinking he may have neuropathy. This is going on 2 months now of trial and error and after reading 20 minutes of experiences, I THINK ITS THE MED!!!!!!!
What do we do then? He had high blood pressure so what meds are good with no side affects of burning or insomnia? Any suggestions or help would be of great appreciation. Thank you!!!

Has anyone's kids had trouble sleeping since taking Singular. My son has been on it for a couple weeks and seems not to be able to go to sleep very easy. Also it seems to wear off kind of fast, by bedtime he's stuffy and itchy.

Hello all,
I'm a 45-yr old Air Force Major (Male) recently diagnosed with asymptomatic chronic Atrial Fibrillation (As in I have it and was walking around not knowing it). When I went to see the cardiologist, my B.P. was only 120 / 74 (Which, until they changed the rules, used to be normal)and he puts me on Diovan 80mg once a day plus Coumadin 5mg. Well the Diovan almost made me faint and I had numbness in both arms, plus a funky rash, kind of like chicken pox showing up on my arms and thighs.
I went online and read horror stories of Diovan so I stopped taking it immediately (I had only taken four doses and never had any horrible symptoms until after I took the meds!). Then the Dr. put me on an Event Monitor and it showed I was indeed in A-fib all the time, plus at night, my heart was racing briefly to 200 a minute while I was sound asleep. So he puts me on Toprol XL 100mg once a day.
Immediately I had trouble sleeping (Which I never had before, ever!) with crazy dreams and tossing/turning. My B.P. dropped to 88/65 and my fibrillating heart rate was 64!!! I was so mad because I actually felt better before the meds. I found this site and saw what everyone was posting and immediately took myself off the Toprol XL.
The day after stopping the Toprol I had slight chest pains (Like angina or gas bubble) but they went away on their own. I slept fine the next night.
I'm having an Electro-Cardiversion done on the 21st July to see if I can stop the A-fib and get in normal rhythm. I know the Dr. is going to be mad at me for stopping the Diovan and Toprol, but I'm sorry, I'm convinced there is a better way to beat all this (Namely exercise and eating right). Being in the service means you have to be Mr. Physical and Mental "perfect" all the time. I cannot afford to be diagnosed with depression in my line of work! Thanks to all on this website and I wish you the best.
PS. for those who think I'm being ignorant of my medication, I have a nice fat insurance policy and Power of attorney for my wife and kid in the event I keel over!!! I may be medication intolerant but at least I took care of my family.

I had hard chills and fever while on the drug Levaqin, but thought it was due to the sinus infection that I was being treated for. After being off of the drug for almost a month, I am having severe pain in my knees, feet, ankles and hips. I have difficulty standing up after being seated for a while. I shuffle around like a 90 year old for a while until I " shake it off". I am still having trouble sleeping without taking benadryl. What can I do to get this stuff out of my system?

Reading these postings have brought me some comfort. At least I know it is not all in my head and that Mothers Intuition is still a strong powerful gift! My 4 and 6 year old were given Singulair. My 4 year old daughter came down with her first ever case of swollen glands. She could not eat any food and spent the next 2 months drinking from a straw. All tests came back negative, antibiotics didn't work, steriods didn't work and the ENT said I should remove her tonsils. After 2 months of being on all kinds of meds and her steriod treatment was done I decided to take her off Singulair. I just thought her body should be drug free for awhile! Within 2 days she was completely "healed". I will never give her Singulair again.
My son is 7 and I have just decided to stop his treatment of Singulair also. He has constant complaints of belly aches, grey stool, trouble sleeping and sudden tears. I just thought it was stress with school work, peers, etc. but I don't think so anymore. We seem to try to "understand" why our kids are having certain stress like symptoms but I think we need to look at our medicine cabinets first. They are small people on strong meds and I just don't think their systems can handle it. I think I am going to visit a nutritionist not pediatrician the next time I need help!

hi everyone, ive been on loestrin fe 24 for 4 months now. Just began my 5th, my first month i was nauseous every day all day, even though i took my pill with breakfast. on my second pack i switched to taking the pill at 10pm (right b4 bed) the nausea feeling went away. on my 3rd and 4th pack ive been feeling nothing but pure depression for no reason almost everyday. i have a beautiful relationship with an amazing man and all i can think of is that he doesn't love me....deep down i know my feelings of depression and fear of loosing my fiancee are not real/true. but although i try to control my depression it doesn't work. i cry for no reason, i don't want to work or do anything at all. ive been having trouble sleeping and this morning woke up with crazy anxiety. after the depression scare and anxiety i experienced today i will not be taking my little white pill today. ill be calling my doctor and ask him to out me on something else, this depression needs to stop. i cant live my life in fear of loosing someone. if any of you have had similar effects to this high depression of loestrin pls post about it.

I have been on Lupron for not even a month yet. My side effects are bad headaches, the pain has not gone away, I am still having my period, I have terrible mood swings, I have trouble sleeping, I have no sex drive at all, (my husband hates that) I get shortness of breath sometimes. I get hot flashes, they don't really last long, but when they hit, they hit. I get stomach aches and nausea sometimes. I think the worst thing about me is that I am in the Army. One doctor that I was seeing did a sonogram, a CT scan(i think), and put me on birth control pills, but none of that worked. She said there was nothing wrong with me and that I was making it all up. She said I needed to go to mental health. I finally got referred to OBGYN. The doctor there did a laproscopy, but let her tell it, she doesn't even know if I have endometriosis. She said I have a lot of scar tissue, but she can't say if it is endometriosis. Why are you treating me for endometriosis if you don't know for sure if I have it? The worst part of all is that I am supposed to be deploying to Iraq next month and I am still in pain. Yall please pray for me...

I am a 36 year old male who was prescribed Levaquin for a urinary tract infection related to some bacteria in my prostate, most likely E-coli. I was prescribed 500mg for 14 days. I have not taken antibiotics in about 8 years as I am a firm believer that they are toxic and do more harm than good in the long run. However this was the first time I had something like this and was worried about something serious developing, so I agreed. The side effects started mildly and got worse and 11 days into them I could barely go to work. Incredible dehydration and light headedness accompanied with soreness in my muscles and tendons and trouble sleeping. (I was in possibly the best physical shape you can be in and worked out regularly). I'm not taking them anymore and hoping for the best. If the infection returns I will go see an Eastern medicine doctor and go the natural route with herbal remedies. I have heard doctors make commissions (kick backs) by prescribing certain drugs and don't pay attention to the horrible side effects their patients describe. Some of the stories related to this drug are very scary and people should be very cautious. Something else of interest, Levaquin is prescribed for anthrax inhalation and cancer as well, I think that says a lot.

I was put on Avelox 6 days ago along with methylprednisolone for a severe sore throat, chest congestion, and cough. Since taking the medication, I have had episodes of anxiety, panic (hard to catch my breath which leads to the feeling of panic), restlessness, trouble sleeping at night, nausea, and problems with my memory (I have had numerous episodes where my mind blanks and I forget what I was going to do or what I was in the middle of doing). My emotions have been all over the place since taking this. I have had episodes where my body just feels very strange. I also have had bursts of pain in my left hip. I am only 41 and have never had this happen before. I was attributing it to my illness because I was very sick at first but now the illness is gone (except for a little congestion that is left) and I am stilling having side effects. It didn't occur to me until today that it could be the medication because I've never had any bad side effects from medication except getting sick to my stomach with codeine. I decided to research Avelox and now am convinced about its side effects. I won't be taking my last pill and will call the doctor tomorrow.
I wonder if mixing Avelox and methylprednisolone caused any effects? Haven't researched that yet.

I posted not too long ago as my symptoms first began creeping up on me, high chloesterol, depsite a lot of exercise and eating healthy and having a normal body fat percentage. (AND I MEAN SO HIGH THAT I SHOULD WEIGH 500+ pounds)! I also have vitiligo, this causes skin discoloration and began having muscle aches and trouble sleeping at night. I had been on Yasmin for a little over a year and taken a break for 3 months before getting back on and symptoms started creeping up 2-3 months after coming back on Yasmin. I have aslo began to have hair loss in the past few months, gained 17 pounds in 4 months despite excerising and eating healthy. I began having hert palpitations and my late night writing can be attributed to trouble sleeping and overwhelming anxiety. I also have a lower sex drive now and am very depressed. I have been off Yasmin despite my doctor not believing a low dose pill could be causing all this, for one month. I have had withdrawals without a doubt, I am having severe breakouts, my breasts are so tender air caused by a fan hurts them and I want to cry all the time. The worst thing of all is my doctor won;t believe me, but how else can all this be happening. Blood tests ruled out thyroid and anemia as culprits as well as pregnancy (apparently I wouldn't notice that the 17 pounds was really a baby-what are these doctors thinking I know my body!). I hear all your symptoms and I wish I could say that they go away as soon as you get off the pill, but I can say if you just got on and things seem to be great realize I was on it for over a year and swore by it becasue it was the first pill that seemd to help with my emotions and cramps...but that all changed and my life feels like it is crashing down. I may never convince my doctor that yasmin is doing this to my body...they don't blieve me that I'm not eating fast food and siiting on my butt eating fatty foods all day and that is why I'm gaining weight and have dangerously high chloesterol, but I hope I can convince you all. I have had bad luck with all pills, I am allergic to spermicide and can't use diaphrams, I had my period for a month solid on the shot, but what Yasmin is doing to me makes me worry that my life is truly at risk...I would rather deal with cramps that are crippling than be ridiculed by doctors and hate myself the way yasmin makes me fo.

We have been through hell for the past three years with my son, who is now 18. He went from a very happy, confident kid who had lots of friends, loved playing several sports, played the piano, enjoyed going to school where he got straight A's, to a complete disaster. I cried when I read many of these postings. All these stories sound so similar to ours. He had trouble sleeping where he couldn't get to sleep at night and then his sleep would be very restless (one time he punched a hole in the wall in his sleep, several times he fell out of bed) and he would be all twisted up in his blankets in the morning. Getting him up in the morning became a complete nightmare, I dreaded getting up in the morning because our mornings had become so stressful. He just could not seem to wake up no matter what method we tried and sometimes it could get quite ugly. We took him in for several sleep studies which didn't yield any results. He started feeling sick all of the time with frequent stomach aches and ended up missing alot of school. We had a CT scan done on his abdomin which didn't show anything abnormal. Because he missed alot of school he fell behind and his grades dropped, he stopped hanging out with all of his old buddies and he started getting into trouble. There were days when he would be rolled up in a ball in his bed crying, telling me that he couldn't stand the thought of going to school. This was not the son we knew and we, like most people with teenagers, figured it was just a phase and would go away. Unfortunately, he ended up getting thrown out of school and has moved out of state. He will not be graduating with his class this spring which is a tragedy. Although he has been away from us now for 10 months, we keep in touch regularly and he is doing great (he stopped taking Singulair well over a year ago). He has had a steady job that he loves for the past 10 months and is apparently able to get himself up in the mornings and to work on time. He has been living on his own, paying rent and all of the other associated expenses that go with this, he has not asked us for any assistance and appears to be coping very well. He has made a lot of new friends and seems to be thriving. We are very proud of him! He would like to get his GED and go to college. His transformation has been dramatic. The frustrating part is that it didn't have to be this way. We feel like we have pretty much lost the last three years of our son's life, and we're not sure when he will be coming home. We all miss him terribly, especially his brother and sister, there is a big hole in our family. And the stress of the last three years has taken a toll on our family. I have passed some of these postings on to our Dr. I hope all of the information on these postings will help to spare other families the sadness and heartache that we have gone through. If there is going to be a class-action suit I would appreciate receiving any information regarding that.

Sorry guys. The post below is mine and I left out a critical part of the entry. My three year old daughter was put on Allegra (along with the Singulair and Nasonex) in mid-March which is when her sleeping patterns changed. I've researched the side-effects of Allegra and I can't find sleeplessness anywhere. Therefore, maybe it's the combination of the Singulair and Allegra causing the problem. Does anyone else have a small child on this combination of meds. that is experiencing similar problems?

As a pediatrician I write for singulair every day.
The medication is for allergies.
Allergies cause adenoidal swelling, which cause sleep disturbances which makes the child tired the next day with makes him over weight, less attentive, hyper and eventually act out.
This in turn makes the child experience parental, peers and teachers criticism/ abuse, with leads to the child feel inadequate, embarrassed, frustrated and eventually depressed and suicidal.
Yes, singulair does cause behavioral change but they appear within the first couple of peels, the rest is due to allergies, lack of medical care, i.e. sleep, singulair, and zyrtec deficiency.
Allergy shots cause 4 times the incidence of suicidally than singulair, and Ritalin 10 times more.
They say in hebrew "once a stone is thrown into a well, thousands of smart people won't find it".
Check it, it's true.

Both my sons have been taking this medication for over 2 years. They are both extremely sensitive and cry for no apparent reason at any given time. They always have trouble sleeping and are afraid to be in the dark for fear of the nightmares they have each night. This is is making me crazy because I have been hurting my children and thought I was helping them!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 9 year old son who has been on Singulair a couple of years ago, he has significant asthma. The last year and a half, my son has had difficulty concentrating and now since depression with suicidal ideations, he was started on Zoloft in December. I am going to have to address this immediately with his doctors.
He has had trouble sleeping, eating, uncontrollable crying, and symptoms of PTSD.

My son was on Singulair from 4-8 years old. During that time he was very emotional, cried easily, had abrupt mood changes, trouble sleeping and had behavioral issues at school. He also began banging his head on the floor when frustrated and caused severe redness and bruising. He also had a psychotic episode at school noted by teachers and the school psychologist. I wish at the time I associated it with the drug and took him off sooner. He has been off since August of 2007 and is a great student at school with no behavior problems at all!!! He is a happier child and I think the FDA should make Merck label this drug much better. And for "unconcerned" who posted here I don't think there is anything wrong with continuing the drug- each person reacts differently to drugs if it works for your child- that is great!

I'm 23 and I got prescribed Yasmin because I have PCOS, where I only got my period every 3-9 months (very irregular) where I suffered severe period pain and my period would go for about 8 days. The doctor thought regulating my period would decrease the pain, which it did. My period is around 3-4 days, very light and no pain since starting Yasmin. But I have had migraines weekly, constant headaches, usually starting with my vision going blurry and seeing flashing white light. I also lost my appetite for the first month, but have gained weight. I was going to the gym and exercising everyday and now I have no motivation to exercise at all, but feel bloated ALL the time. I have had trouble sleeping since taking it. I suffered from depression and anxiety attacks about 2 years ago, but since taking Yasmin I have been feeling very depressed and had several anxiety attacks, although the anxiety has only started after being on it for 4 months. After having another migraine this week and having to leave work for teh second time in 2 weeks, I decided I was going to stop taking it. (I had also had 3 anxiety attacks this week) since stopping I have instantly felt relaxed, no anxiety, and I no longer feel depressed.
After suffering all of this for 4 months, 8 day periods and 4 days of being in pain doesn't seem so bad. The depression and Anxiety is the scaries part as I haven't experienced it for so long, and don't want to!
Does anyone know how long it takes to be fully out of your system? I just want to get back to normal weight, moods, energy levels etc as soon as possible!

I have been on Zyrtec for three years (Every day) haven't noticed mood swings in myself? My mother also takes them every other day and is not particularly moody. Although she has trouble sleeping which she attributes to the menopause But if i don't take one within 24hrs I get very itchy and hive up..now that I'm breastfeeding I've just noticed my daughter is very irritable..and am beginning to think it's related to the zyrtec. I'm changing to claratyne in the morning to see if there's a change..very,very interesting and scary reading all the side-effects!!
