I had the Mirena put in when my son was a year old....i have had it now for over 2 years...i experienced the cramping, bloating, bleeding, etc.....i did not know that i would probably gain weight.....i chose the mirena because i was already 30 years old, a smoker and was previously on birth control for ten+ years before stopping it to conceive my son. I slowly began to gain a few pounds, but always put it off to work, my routine changing, etc. We moved to Alabama 6 months later and I noticed that I kept packing on the weight. I contributed it to the lack of an exercise routine that i could be consistent with. I realized this , so i began getting back into the gym, eating right and drinking my water. Still no weight loss. I have since started school again and gained more weight. Again, i blamed it on the stress of school and trying to take care of a three year old. But, after a while, I started to question whether it is really those things, or is it the Mirena. No Doctor has ever suggested that it could be the Mirena. My internal medicine doctor even noticed the weight gain and she doesn't even mention the possibility of it being from the IUD. I know that I am not making this up.....something is not right. NO matter what i do, the weight will not come off......and now, because of the extra weight, i have blood pressure problems. I am 5'9 and weigh 185 pounds.....I have only weighed that one time in my life, and that is when i was pregnant with my son.....I am so discouraged , depressed and just totally give out......I hate the way I look and feel. I used to be tall and slender with a few curves, but GEEES.....now i just have curves and alot of them!!! I think that i have decided to get the Mirena removed , also......and i will just have to stay hopeful that the weight will come off, eventually. Any comments, words of encouragement , personal experiences would be appreciated.....thanks .....lmc31

I have been taking adderall for over a year, but for about 10 months ago, I started taking wellbutrin also and since have had chronic problems with my ears, It's actually getting worse. Not so much ear infections, but the pressure is actually pushing inward. So i feel light headed just funky all day. Kind of like a head cold without the cold. I can't figure out which one is causing (i think wellbutrin) since that's when it began. But it could be the combination. Just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing this. I am 35 female.
thanks pam

I have been on this medication for a year now. It has helped my Blood Pressure but I do have a lot of the side effects listed here. I have a dry cough all the time and I am haveing a terrible time with blurry or duouble vision. I am not sure if this is from the meds or from the Graves Disease but I do know that I see double a lot. I also have a lot of headaches, dry itchy skin around my eyes. The biggest problem I have is that I am allways tired. I feel like I have just run a marathon all the time. I just want to sit around and do nothing and that is not me at all. I try to stay busy but for the ost part I am content to sit around, listen and not talk to people and again that does not fit my Type "A" personality at all.

Kim,

please remember, that being off a bcp (not only Yasmin or Yaz) for only 6 weeks really isn't very long!! Most doctor's say, that it lasts at least up to 3 months for the chemicals of the pill to leave your body completely, because it's not only in your blood but also in your tissue, and getting out of there takes much longer than getting out of your blood!! (That's another reason why drinking loads of water is so important!!!)

So even if your hormone levels maybe at the same stage than one year ago, there maybe still the side effects of Yaz, that you're experiencing, on top of the hormonal problems you've mentioned!!

Please Kim, try to stay strong and give it more time, 6 weeks off that pill really really isn't enough to say, you have to feel well again at once!! This is no cold or a flu we are or were going through!! Hormonal problems can't be solved within a few days or weeks, it definitely takes months (should be clear alone by the fact, that our cycles last about one month!).

And if you feel that an antidepressant might help you, please give it a chance. I still don't know if you had already tried the Valerian, I've mentioned a few posts before (well, although, as bitter RN told, you should not take it together with other antidepressants as ssri or such!!). I found this a very good little helper during my hardest days. It always helped me to calm down and at night it helped me to sleep. Please think about it.

Best wishes to you and I'll send you all the strenght I have left over to stand this Kim!!

Silke

I'm 17 years old, and I have Ulcerative Colitis. I was diagnosed at 15, and was put on Prednisone then for three months. I didn't gain much weight in my tummy that time, but my face swelled to huge proportions, and while ON the drug, my hair grew like crazy but was very dull and lifeless at the same time. The minute I stopped the drug, my hair started falling out. Within a month, I had lost 40% of my hair.

Well, I'm on it again, and this time it's worse. I started out at 40mg back in October, and am down to 20mg now, but it's just as bad as when I started. I'm VERY moody and snap at my best friends, who I am usually the calmest around. I often find myself just wanting to hit and yell at something. Before I started Pred, I weighed 138. I weighed myself yesterday... 150.2. This is very disheartening. I have a moon face, the makings of a double chin, unhealthy hair, I wake up about 5 times every night because I'm restless or I have to pee, I can't focus in school, my knees hurt, etcetera. I'm miserable.

I work out 6-7 times a week because I'm so concerned about my weight. I do 30-45 minutes of the treadmill and/or elliptical, and do all the happy little toning machines, in hopes that my tummy can be a bit more toned. But no. It's a useless blob. None of my favorite jeans or shirts fit me anymore, and this - not the drug itself, but the side effects - make me very, very unhappy.

Right after I take it, I drop to sleep or feel faint if I try to stay awake. It's really scary because I have a 3 yr old at home with me who needs my constant attention. I have started taking it at night. Also I work for a call in crisis center and for the first month on it I just could not force myself to listen ot others troubles. Normally I am a very compassionate and patient person. I was irritable, edgy, and actually began seeing the callers as draining. I love my job and love being a friend to others, all this dried up. I had a severe hormonal reaction after the birth of my daughter and Yasmin was supposed to be the magic cure. How are you supposed to work on this stuff? I have eaten dinner out somewhere rather than cook because I find the kitchen overwhelming. The household chores have gone amiss where before I was very organized and tidy. I just cannot find the energy. Then the fog would wear off in the evenings and I stay up too late. One morning determined to conquor the "drowsies" I drank a water glass heavy duty dark coffee and still literally dropped off in a coma like sleep. I notice they are strong after I eat as well. I am on my second month and reluctant to give it up because I have been suffering with so many other hormonal issues prior to taking it!

I've had 4 remicade treatments on my 2 treatment they had to stop it after bumping it up to 20 cc cause it started respitory problems and made my blood pressure go up. now when I go for treatments I have to take 75 mg of benedril and 30 mg of prednisone, now i'm noticing leg cramps, muscle pain, joint pain, my hair is falling out more than it ever did before. I've been on Topamax for almost a year and a half now. I'm up to 300mg a day. My worst side effects are extreme tiredness, aches and pains, memory loss, poor concentration, tingling, and numbness in my face. I take it for migraine prevention, only it doesn't prevent them, it just keeps them from happening so often. I'd hate to see what would happen if I came off of it now. Depression is an issue too. I take Zoloft for that. Just hang in there and try to stay healthy. Shel

dear lisa, its chrissy sorry iv taken a while to respond...

i just read ur posting about the hair loss and yes ive heard that it is a very common post yasmin side effect. i didnt experience it myself but i do get the depression the week that my period is finishing. its gotten better since i first stopped yasmin but its still noticeable.
have you been feeling any better apart from those symptoms?? just remember that ur nearly 3 months off yasmin and the first two months are the hardest.
im six months off it now and i feel so much better. you will get back to normal soon i promise... you just gotta hang in there...
you can take some natural vitamins to increase hair growth and it will only be the hair on ur head not anywhere else...
there is one i heard about i think its called Biotin??? something like that anyway and you can get it from like health food shops .....
it may help im not sure of any others though.

try to stay positive and i wish you the best results in whatever you decide to do.
lots of hugs to you
luv chrissy xoxox

Weight gain, I'm a 42 yr old male former marine and try to stay in shape. Normally go to the gym, run and work out 3 times a week. Since taking diovan I've went from my normal 187 lbs to 216 lbs. Thats a 29 lb gain. I'v started running farther and eating less-makes no differance. I went back and did a little research and the weight gain coinsides with when I started taking the diovan. I will be calling my Doc tomorrow to see about changing meds>>>>

i have been on prednisone, and other types of steroids for 6 years now,, i have all the side effects, hair thinning, skin thinning, moon face, weight gain, stopped my menstrual, rashes, legg cramps, brusing, mood swings, and on and on, , i compare this drug to cocain,,,THE BIG LIE! It will make u feel good at 1st, then sap!...anyway,, i take them, because i have constant hives,,, steroids only covers the problem up for awhile, it doesn't cure,,, honestly,, of there is another way, take it,,, try to stay off the steroids,,this is what i was told,,,depending on how long u have been on steroids, it can take up to 2 years to get out of your system, and that long to get that weight off,,it is not water weight,,, IT IS FAT, because you put it on eating,,this drug will make ur skin thin,, will bring your young body down FAST!!!! i personally have come to the conclusion to keep the hives and swellings and stop the steroids,,,,oooooo VERY IMPORTANT,,,STEROIDS, WILL AME U HEAL VERY SLOW,, SO IF U HAVE TO HAVE SURGERY,,,DENTAL WORK,,MAKE SURE U SAY SOMETHING...
